Screen wake on new text? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I text a lot and my phone wakes up everytime a new one comes through. I've searched all throughout the phone trying to figure out how to turn it off. Can this be turned off? It's rather annoying.

X3FBrian.
Please provide rom info so others with the same rom, can help.
Handcent SMS has many lovely options including keeping the screen off.

you can't turn that off if your on sammy rom using the stock messaging app.
if you use other messaging app like go sms or handcet sms there are options to not turn off screen when there's a new sms

LED notification

Hi there,
Is there an app for the LED notification to continuosly blink when I get an email, twitter updates, missed calls, etc.? I searched the market place and couldn't find any apps that will do this. There's a missed call app, but that's not what I'm looking for.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Give more info, and are you rooted, on my stock rom I was able to control the led to what ever time I wanted it on. It's on settings and display I believe, I don't really remember what it was cuz I haven't been on stock for awhile now. You don't need an app for led lights

No my phone is not rooted. I just got the phone with Rogers. I went to settings and display and the only options I have are to select which events I want the led lights to flash. There's no option to flash indefinitely.
I have searched the forums and there doesn't seem to be a solution to my question. I have tried many led notification apps, most of them are for missed calls, sms, etc. But even with those reminders, the LED doesn't stay on. Without rooting the phone, is there an app that will leave the LED light blinking when there's missed events?
I have tried:
Missed call - doesn't stay blinking for more than 5 mins
handscent sms
easy reminder - deosn't stay blinking for more than 5 mins
light flow - phone needs to be rooted
There's others I have tried but they were for changing the led light which I found out it doesn't work.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Extend the time the screen is on when it is awoken by SMS?

I have this problem where I will receive an SMS while my phone is asleep and by the time I get to my phone the screen turns off. It is literally on for ~3 seconds. Is there anyways to change extend this time to maybe 10 seconds? I always find myself having to turn the screen on again. I'd rather use a tweak to the system rather than using a new app. Running stock ICS with root by the way.
No.

SmsPopup is highly recommended; extremely configurable and you'll get a nice popup notification with a quick reply option and reminders if you like.

Screen Notification Issue

Whenever I receive new message/whatsapp/email/facebook/etc., my screen doesn't lights up to show me the notifications but it only makes the notification sound. Is there any way to turn on the screen when notification received?

It' s not an iPhone that's the reason why you have a notification light BTW it saves battery too. What a nonsense to turn the screen on each time you get a notification. Are iPhones still do that? I don't think that stock sense can do that.

Cool app and works similar to bitesms on iPhone jailbroken app. Only good thing though is the quick reply but imo the graphics on this make it look way out of date compared to the stock messenger. Only thing I don't like is when in your pocket you can accidentally hit reply and have issues if u know what I mean. Great alternative though for the few people that can't live without the screen turning on with a new text, lol. Personally I like it the way it is, does save some unneeded screen time and no possible way to case accidental responses. But if u just stare at ur device all day waiting for a text to appear, I can see the appeal, lol.
is there any other method to pop the screen?
i have been using the power button to pop the screen, is there any other alternative method?

[Q] I am always missing my texts when on vibrate.

Basically the title. When My phone is on vibrate I never feel my ATT One X+ vibrate from a text. I can't find any text vibrate text settings and the notification led just isn't enough for me to realize someone is trying to contact me.
I'm new to android, so maybe I just haven't turned on a simple setting, but this is a pretty real issue for me.
Anyone have any solutions?
Open Messages - Settings - Notification - Check Mark the Vibrate for messages.

That is definitely helpful. Now my phone vibrates when I get a text. My iPhone would notify(vibrate again) me a minute later if I didn't check on the text. Anyone know anything about applying that to the phone?

(Q) Vibration Notifications for Gmail, Facebook, Hangouts etc. will not turn off

My Verizon S4 is set to vibration mode (sound turned down/off)
In the options for gmail, facebook, and hangouts I have notifications turned on, but the vibration is off (unticked), BUT I still get vibrations when an incoming email, message, or notification comes along.
Anyone know how to override this issue? Are there external apps that can fix it? I only want my phone to vibrate when I get phone calls or text messages.
I have searched and found nothing.
Does no one else have this problem? It's driving me nuts!
I have the issue but mine only affects my enhanced Email app running Yahoo. Going to try uninstalling that and just use default email app, see if that helps.
Anybody find a solution to this yet????

I'm thinking that the sound/vibrate settings in Settings may be overriding this, but don't know why?

because you have it in vibration mode. all notifications are vibrate when in vibration mode, even when you have vibration turned off in the apps.

I was thinking that may be what is happening.....
It never used to do this on the Galaxy S4, whoever finds a fix for this I will love forever!
This is not a bug but an annoying change Google made as of Android 4.2. Basically anything with a notification is supposed to vibrate when the phone is in vibrate mode regardless of the app setting although the app needs to support it. There is no fix but CM10.1 has the ability to revert this behavior.

Sorry for digging up this Thread, but this is not acceptable for me.
My S3 is always on Silent/Vibrate - Mode. In this case, Hangouts isn't usable for me. I have to disable all hangouts notificitaions, or my phone would vibrate almost all of the time.
So, is there any workaround available, so far?
I've allready tried to revoke permissions for vibration from hangouts and G+ via "App Settings" (Xposed module), but that didn't work. :/
Any solution would be great. Otherwise I have to go back to 4.1.2.
Best regards,
Marcus

You can try to manually turn off the vibration in the sound settings. settings<my device<sounds<vibration intensity
Change the slider of anyone of them that needs to be changed (from what I can tell you just want the notification vibration to be turned off so slide that one all the way to the left).
Let me know how this go.
Thx for your reply. But this will turn off Vibration for all notifications, won't it? I just want to turn it off for Hangouts because I receive lots of messages there and it's pretty annoying to have a phone on your pocket, that is vibrating all the time. I also have an app, that comes along with the OmegaROM, called "Notifications Mangaer" But changes there doesn't take effect. :/
Best regards,
Marcus

That is the only way I know, other than the notifications manager. I know what you means too, I also hate the annoying vibration all the time and it waste battery life. I got tired of looking for a way around it and just turned off the notification vibration.
Sad to hear... But I won't surrender. This is not acceptable for me. There must be a way to disable vibration on Hangouts even if enabled in system settings. I'll hang on it and let you know as soon as I found a solution . Thx, so far.
Best regards,
Marcus
I have the same problem so I just hav the notifications that I want to vibrate set to vibrate all the time and hangouts not to, then I put my volume at 1.

Thats not bad as an temporarily soliution. It hits me on an idea:
Lets perfection this and create a 1s long, silent track and set it as ringtone. That should work as well.
But even this cant be the final solution. There must be a way to prevent hangouts from vibrating, although global settings force vibration. It worked in the past as well, so why not on above 4.1.2 versions?
Same problem with S5 Mini
I got the same problem on m S5 Mini - it's driving me crazy! Why should I want apps to vibrate in vibration mode, when i don't want the to vibrate in general - when I turn off vibration in the app settings?!
I wake up every night because of notifications from facebook or emails..
I just want whatsapp and phone calls to vibrate!
I came from HTC devices (Desire, Sensation, Sensation XE) and never had this problem before.
It's also annoying that I can't change the notifications volume together with the ringtone volume, but have to seperately adjust the slider
Any solutions without root would be great
