Hello my friends, I got the infamous black spot in my camera and now I need to take my SGS II to service center.
I know I have to restore the Original ROM and kernel (and firmware?) but I don't what folders and files have to be in the internal memory and what folders and files have to be removed in order to erase any clue of phone customization/rooting.
I will appreciate your help. Thank you in advanced!
:cyclops:
First use triangle away to reset the flash counter if you're on ICS. The download the official firmware for your region from sammobile.com and flash it via Odin and you should be good to go. This should be enough. But just to be safe you can restore to factory settings from the Settings menu once you're back on stock. That'll delete all files etc from the phone. (Not necessary IMO)
Good luck.

Thank you for you reply.
I'm using JellyBean (ParanoidAndroid 2.52) can I still use trhe Triangle away?
So can I delete ALL the file in the internal memory without any risk of brick or stuff like that? Or which files I have to keep?
Thank you again!

Yes you can use triangle away.
To the best of my knowledgde, if you factory reset the phone from the settings menu once on stock, it'll delete everything. Apps, contacts, data etc bringing the phone back to how it was the first time you bought it. So the necessary files will remain.
But like I said..factory reset from the settings menu and NOT wiping in stock recovery. If possible, use 4.0.3 instead of 4.0.4. I'm sure you're aware of the emmc brickbug. Why risk it eh?
Good luck.

I know nothing about the emmc brickbug, what's that ?
After I do everything you said I still have to build a JIG to reset the binary counter, right? Otherwise my carrier company will cry cuz I put a custom ROM in my cellphone. Or they don't watch the binary counter when checking my phone? Remember this is a camera Hardware issue...

Then I suggest you search for information about it. Its all over this forum.
I don't know what Samsung checks while servicing the phone. But using triangle away resets the binary counter the same way the jig does. The jig works on GB, TriangleAway on ICS.

Hello guys
How are you doing?
I hope every one is fine.
I have recently rooted my device which is Galaxy S III GT-I9300. After using the device, and discovering that Readers Hub is no more accessible, I decided to permanently unroot. I discovered that SuperSU app can unroot. And that's what I did.
But if you enter into download mode, you still find the device to be in custom mode, and that it uses custom firmware.
I read on the internet that restoring to my stock firmware using Odin can end up this vicious cylce (downloaded the kies version from Sammobile of my region). But I have two questions:
1- Is it real that restoring to a stock firmware can end up the "custom" problem? And is it still going to be able to update to JB?
2- Does restoring to the stock firmware wipe my data?
What do you suggest guys?
I heard of "Check Fus Downloader" that searches for stock firmwares that can be updated via Kies. Do I need it, or is it enough to use the Sammobile edition?
Any suggestions or draw backs?
Thank you very much.
I suggest you to use triangle away app to reset flash counter, do wipe / factory reset and flash official firmware via Odin (firmware you can find on www.sammobile.com). Then your sgs3 should be like out of a box..

Go to this thread and do all the things except for the restore from nandroid part. You don't need to flash the original firmware if you follow this method

Does resetting the flash counter change device status to normal?
I only reset the counter and now the Odin mode shows that the firmware is official, but my device status is still "Modified" in the settings.
Any idea?

I have a full video on Youtube showing how to un-root and get rid of the flash counter etc.
Search my friend
if i'm not mistaken, you now need to flash the official firmware through Odin, and you're good to go!
Thank you all for your valuable assistance.
Actually, the triangle away has not helped a lot. It is true that it has reset the counter, but the "Device status" in the "About phone -> Status" section of "Settings" app still shows it is modified. I flashed my "kies" firmware of Sammobile, yet still it shows "Modified".
Is there any way to get rid of this thing without wiping data? If the only solution is to wipe the data, is there any way to backup my app settings?
Thank you.
Cut and Paste
Revert to stock .
Download stock firmware .
Use Triangle Away to reset rom counter .
Delete root apps on phone .
Flash stock rom via Odin
Factory reset .

You have to wipe data/factory reset to make the status back to normal. Kies can backup some data and user apps. But the phone must be rooted to backup/restore user app data/settings.

As a matter of interest - could you check the status with and WITHOUT your micro sd card installed?
Sometimes the micro sd card can cause the status to show as 'modified' when it isn't really so .

Thank you all for your assistance!
Actually, removing the external SD did not fix the problem!
Well, I reset the flash counter using "Triangle Away", wiped my data to factory state then flashed an official Kies ROM. The status is now "Normal".

Hi,
Today I decided to root my device and tried out AOKP build 3, i decided that it was good but I just prefered the feel of stock and I wanted to unroot and lock the bootloader back up. So i did but installing it through mobile Odin because when I tried to install the firmware though the computer it would just keep freezing and failing basically. When I was following this guide (http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-unroot/how-to-unroot-galaxy-s3-i9300/) I did everything but the triangleaway bit. I decided to skip it because i wasn't sure if my firmware was supported. So I thought I would just live with it till I got to the software updater thing and was told that it can't update because the device is modified. So now it appears I will have to re root and install this tool then flash the firmware and factory reset it. My question is, will it be safe use triangle away on the JRO03C.I9300XXDLIB firmware. Or even better, has anyone actually tried it. Yes i know, I am pretty weird but I am more of a stock man myself.
Thanks,
Yes, go ahead with triangle away.

From what i read with triangle away disclaimer its pretty risky but i havent actually seen anyone horror stories. Also, i dont know how well kies isbit supposed to work but for me its useless. Never finds the device and has all my data backed up on it.

Yet to read of actual problem with TA despite the warnings .

Triangle Away will reset the counter, but won't set status to Normal. If you are not comfortable with using Triangle Away, you may simply do a factory reset which should set the status back to Normal (but not the counter though).
BTW I have used Triangle Away many times without any problem.
Ok Thanks. Will try later today. My only thought isbit when i previously wioed all data and dud the factory reset frim the bootloader it loaded into a stock JB rom like a factory reset but its still says modified. Is that because i have not run triangle away yet?

and so of course Kies won't connect for me. Any tips on getting it to work. Tired restarting phone, troubleshoot guide, everything. Just want it so I can restore all my data to my phone.
Precondition: rooted phone
You need to follow these steps:
- get stock firmware from samfirmware.com
- use Triangle Away to reset the counter
- flash firmware downloaded earlier
- factory-reset the device (this includes internal sdcard on stock recovery!!!)
- done

Hi guys, i'm going to sell my galaxy s2 and the buyer want it all stock. I'm using the cm10 ROM on it. I've already downloaded the factory stock firmware on sammobile.com. Until there everything was ok, but now I'm not sure about the way to flash the stock firmware. Should I flash it by clockworkmod, as the customs Roms I've flashed before? Or should I flash it by Odin, like an unrooted phone?
Since now, thanks a lot for your help

when doing this, will the yellow triangle go away, phone get unrooted, and flash counter reset to 0?
cus im sure the buyer would want any avaliable warranty back aswell.
It would probably be good to reset counter before flashing, maybe with Triangleaway. Once i flashed original rom over custom with MobileOdin. Everything went well.

No, to reset counter and remove triangle you can do it either with a usb jig or by downloading chainfire app "triangle away" (Search it on the play store")

When u're flashing samsung stocks it'll does full wipe include rom itself, kernel, root, user data & caches then turn all to factory value. So don't even too worries about all u said above. But it worth to use stock 4.0.3 & avoid stock 4.0.4 in case to avoid emmc superbrick bug if u still doubt about advancing..

If you flash a "samsung official rom" it will take the triangle away but it does not reset the counter.
I have flashed CM9 CM10 and 2.3 stock , 4.0 stock a few times and my count is at 7, each time i flash stock the triangle goes away but the counter keeps counting.
Hey guys!
Is there a proper way of restoring the s3 so that I can send it back for a replacement?
I know I can flash the stock rom, but what about the flash counter? Or anything else?
Thank you!

EDIT: ok, i;ve tried triangle away app, and it works, I now have 0 counter and official status. But is this and flashing the stock rom enough?

As far as I remember from other threats you have to have "original status" and the flash counter "0". In addition double check if you got any "root" apps on your S3 or sdcard just in case.

Well yeah. I am going to flash the stock rom, reset the counter and reset to factory settings and format everything before sending it back.
But besides that, do I need to do anything else? Is there a chance that the replacement might get refused?
Thanks!
Yes. These are enough.

Factory reset

Hi xda developers members,
I'm currently trying to reinstall my phone back to stock with just the stock files and nothing else, can anyone tell me how I would go about this? I just want the phone cleared of all apps and other files as I want a fresh start with it.
Galaxy is currently running Jellybean 4.1.1 rooted.
Thanks.
factory reset in recovery if you've not been flashing any custom roms/rooted etc...
EDIT - or just do a reset through the settings menu

Unfortunately the OS is rooted. Is that an issue?
EDIT: Thanks for the information, so if I reset the phone via Settings > Back Up or Reset > Factory Data Reset. This will wipe all the apps, files and the root off my phone and just leave me with the OS?
nope -
run triangle away first if you want to reset the counter
then flash a stock ROM firmware from sammobile.com - use ODIN to flash it.
then full wipe through recovery
should all be stock then....

I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to all this stuff so bare with me on this!
1. Why would I want to reset the counter?
2. I don't mind the device being rooted, I just want all the files and apps gone, I wouldn't mind if it was just the OS and the rooted files. Would that be done if I did the Factory Data Reset?
Thanks.
Oh right, yeah, if you still want root just do a factory reset

Cheers mate, much appreciated. I've just done as you've said and it's worked, hooray!
Now one more question if I may. At the moment, when I go and check for an update, it says "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available"
This is a pain, as I don't want to loose my root, but I want to be able to update I guess, anyway to bypass this?
Im afraid not. You can still update through kies I think, but youll lose root.
The choice is basically root or ota updates..
Easiest thing to do is flash any new firmwares using ODIN then reroot using CF Root..
Or use custom roms..

Fair enough, suppose we can't have it all!
So when the next Jellybean update comes out, I just download the firmware from SamMobile, and flash it via ODIN. Sounds easy enough!

There is a function in the Samsung Kies Called "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization" which is located in the Tools of the Samsung Kies 2.5.0.
Fill in the information it requires and follow the instructions.
It will repartition your phone and install the new pure firmware just like it is a new phone.
