Anyone who tells you ICS is good for gaming-wise, well, they aren't that wise after all *no offense
What I would recommend is CM7.2, since it's GB and it's Cyanogen, it offers more Performance than normal GB did, it support Swap or zRam too which is ideal for gaming too. If you miss ICS animation, no worries, they've port-ed it to CM7.2
I just want people to share -.- . What do they think.
If you want to play games on ICS, Jelly Bean driver is a must. It improves a lot FPS. :good:
I have tried almost every rom here and tried to play games after i installed all my apps (only 30 apps including games). The only rom i have tried that has no problem on playing temple run is the nxtbread rom, a gb based rom. I only play temple run and subway surfer so i don't have any idea on other games. 2nd best rom for gaming for me is the good old cm9. Maybe cm7 will be better but i haven't tried it. But sadly even on the nxtbread rom, it lags on subway surfer.

Oh and by the way, i used aire's gb kernel on nxtbread and sirkay's latest 587 kernel on ics roms. I oc to 1.4ghz, performance gov and tried every io scheduler available too.
Well i am the creator of my rom so of course i am going to recommend mine. But I have tons of games on my phone(40) including asphalt 7 Nova 3 and NFS most wanted and all are runing smooth on OptiKernel preformance(xKernel 9.587 - c) and i use smatrassv2 cfq and 1017Mhz

I don't know how I do working Nova 3 on My Ray!! I've Stock GB 4.0.2.A.0.62 rooted...
Check out my tutorial in my signature if you want to optimize your Xperia Ray for gaming
you can use lightweight rom that do not have much preinstalled apps..setting your low memory killer to more aggresive..and overclock only a little if it still laggy cause prolonged oc can damage your hardware since ray is compact phone...
I would recommend using superleggera. It's very light. I do not encounter lags nor FCs while playing. Good luck choosing, mate!

Downgrade to gb
If u want extreme gaming downgrade to gingerbread..
All games work smoothly
My opinion about roms
I'm also a hardcore gamer...
While writing this opinions, i am playing games like Dark knight(1.8Gb - size), Backstab(650Mb - size) and Shadowgun(500+Mb - size) (All freaking heavy HD games) on my Xperia mini.
All GB roms are fast, but have a very dirty UI..... So its simple i skipped GB roms (I need balance between looks and performence)
This is the freaking rom i suggest you
1. Hyperbeam Cream by Khemara
This is by far the fastest ICS rom I've ever used. I mean FASTEST not JUST FAST
Its ICS rom but tweaked to get butter smooth experience.. I really appreciate Khemara a lot:good::good:
He has kept stock experience and added some little UI Xp.
2.Next is Unlimited V5
Also Fastest:good:
I ve used it for gaming but I hate CM Base so flashed another rom.
Its also the best to play heavy HD games..
Both Roms offer lag free experience for playing heavy HD games.
Final Verdict:
I personally suggest you go for Hyperbeam Cream [stock base](Winner)
You could also Consider Unlimited v5 [CM base](Runner)
If you hate ICS roms ,
then Go for any Gb roms
But i have tried Gb roms Also but ICS roms perform equally Especially these two above mentioned roms
Again these are my personal Opinions based on Heavy HD gaming
Hey , that's another small question
Where did you get that HD games ?
apkmania ?
Because some of them like Dark Knight Asphalt 7 after done copying it and start the game straights auto force closed (when checking license)
So I need to ask which website can successfully play

I also get the same performance with your rom .. amazing smoothness :good:
The only problem was with the looks of CM and Holo launcher...
can we flash "v4.2_ICS_MultiResolution_Xperia_GX_Home_Update" xperia home on your device..(I didn't try it yet)
All this month i was downloading many GB roms and ICS roms and came to a conclusion with your's and Khemara's as the best.
u can flash it but when u move apps or widgets it crashes :/
i got to work on that
and im gonna be release new rom

I use genetICS as a daily driver with chainfire 3d and caf kernel and gaming for me is pretty relaxed..than again I'm not really into gaming. I'll occasionally play a game so when I do, I have a good kernel with chainfire and a high OC setting of 768/480 noop performance

GB continues being the right option to play games.
At least on my side, GB uses less ram than ICS. I also think the kernels also make a difference. There's a lot of "gaming" kernels for GB (my choice would either be PP 1.7 or franco's) while you only have two kernels for ICS, both of which do not seem to be tailored for gaming.

Well, I couldn't really tell because I'm not a phone gamer (I play Switch, Angry Birds and other things to kill time), but it's not that bad. Switch is veeery smooth, Angry Birds doesn't lag at all, so... I would say it's bad for gaming. Maybe only for games that need a lot of RAM.
PD: In GB y had OC and used CF3D, and still some games were kind of slow compared to ICS. So, that's it: if we had some more RAM, maybe... who knows?
Hello guys
Im runing arhd 17.1 with presus kernel
Iv been playing asphalt 7 and modern combat 4
There is alots of lagging in some stages and some framedrops
(I have 500 ram free and im not using any overclock or anything like that)
I was wondering is there is any way to make the games runs smoothly without any lag cuz iv seen some galaxy s3 devices runing it with no lag !
Is it a rom problem or a Kernel problem with those games what should i do to get rid off the lag
Thanks alot guys in advance

Can't say for sure if it's the rom or the kernel as I don't use them. I'm on omega v35, siyah 1.8.4. CPU to 1.6ghz, GPU to 600mhz. Both uved appropriately. No lag in both games.
Try oc your gpu if your kernel supports it?

MC4 works great for me..
One trick.
Get rid of some apps that you don't use.
Go to settings > applications and see running services. See which apps take too much ram and uninstall them.
Get the Siyah Kernel. Open STweaks. OverClock.
Use a rom with the no bloatware feature or option in aroma.
Your games will run perfect then.

Honestly the best combination i've used for gaming has been foxhound coupled with GalaxSih's kernel using supercharger v6 and no ram tweaks.
Every single game i have thrown at it it has dealt with with ease.
Real Racing 2 on a complex levels is a good test to see how stable your phone is, and again FH with Galaxsih just eats it.
There are probably other combinations out there but i've found a great combo and i'm happy with it.
Hope this helps.

With regard to performance in Vector , I use the nemesis V2.1 kernel with 'Latest mali drivers r3p2-01rel1 compiled' : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2222441 & set the game graphics to low (not much of a visual difference actually) ... I use Lionheart governer and ROW scheduler on the Zperience ROM . Not facing lag in Vector now =)
Im not facing any probs, vector and subway surf works fine but Minecraft PE works really bad on Live with Walkman stock GB or ICS works better on fancy!
