To help keep this forum section tidy and easy to use, here are some rules and guidelines.
Only the following topics are allowed in the DEVELOPMENT area:
[DEV] - Development for any projects or Apps.
[ROM] - Custom ROMs.
[KERNEL] - Custom Kernels.
[MOD] - Hack & Modifications for the phone. (See below for more details)
[FIX] - Fixes for known issues & bugs.
[R&D] - Research & Development for Devs only, when gathering data for a new projects.
Note: If you are unsure where your new topic should go, then please post it in General.
For more information on the Original Android Development section check out this portal post
All kinds of Best Rom/Kernel/etc threads are unwelcome, read, research and make your own mind up, as the question is very subjective.
Please Include Screen Shots for ROM / MOD / THEME / Apps & Games, when possible as it's expected by our members.
[MOD]'s that are primarily theming related or simply adjust stock application or framework functionality or behavior belong in the themes and apps section rather than the development section.
Unmodified Stock ROM and Source Codes does not count as a DEVELOPMENT project unless it's part of an active project you have already started, and so should be posted in the general section.
Placeholder threads posted in the development section will be removed or moved.
Howto's and Guides should be posted in the general section.
Password must be provided for all password protected files.
Direct download links preferred, due to stipulations stated in forum rule #11
11. Don’t post with the intention of selling something.
Don’t use XDA to advertise your product or service. Proprietors of for-pay products or services, may use XDA to get feedback, provide beta access, or a free version of their product for XDA users and offer support, but not to post with the intention of selling. This includes promoting sites similar/substantially similar to XDA-Developers.com.
Do not post press releases, announcements, links to trial software, or commercial services. unless you’re posting an exclusive release for XDA-Developers.com.
Encouraging members to participate in forum activities on other phone related sites is prohibited.
Off-site downloads are permitted if the site is non-commercial and does not require registration.
Off-site downloads from sites requiring registration are NOT encouraged but may be permitted if the following conditions are met:
A) the site belongs to a member of XDA-Developers with at least 1500 posts and 2 years membership who actively maintains XDA-Developers' support thread(s) / posts, related to the download,
B) the site is a relatively small personal website without commercial advertising/links (i.e. not a competitor forum-based site with purposes and aims similar to those of XDA-Developers.com.)

Extra emphasis on rule #12
12. Using the work of others.
If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission, and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails then you may contact a moderator with clear evidence that the work was created by you.
Convincing evidence will result in copied work being removed. If there is no clear evidence you created the work then in the spirit of sharing all work will remain posted on the forums.
These rules apply to all software posted on XDA unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules.

Please keep all non Development relevant chatter out of development threads, It is recommended to make a separate thread in the Q&A section for non Development related comments and questions, valid replies within a development thread are: BUG Reports, Problem, Troubleshooting Steps & Logs.
... and Please! keep all your personal bickering via PMs, do not pollute the forum with your personal indifferences.
If you have a problem with a specific member please contact the Moderators for help, that's what we're here for, but we are not babysitters, we are here to gather, organize and provide useful information for our over priced phones

Below is a format that should be used as an example of how a rom thread should look. It doesnt have to be exact. I suggest that you stay creative and use all the features in the advanced panel when creating a thread.
1. Name of rom, team, etc
2. Introduction
3. Changelog in code or php tags
4. What's included in the rom in the (apps, tweaks, scripts, addons, mods) in code of php tags
5. What works/what doesn't work in code or php tags
6. Credits (Users name-with link to (profile/github/or thread u got tweak from embedded), and what they did to help you)
7. Screenshots (2-10 different screenshots of different aspects of rom)
8. Kernel with either link to thread you got it from or github (if stock sense or cm please state that and that is enough)
9. Instructions on how to install the rom (also if special instruction for a2sd or beats audio...etc)
10. Do's and Don'ts of the rom
11. Questions & Answers section (I find this helpful to write out asked questions with solutions at the bottom of the op. I find that it cuts down on the question being asked a million times)
12. Finally the dl link
13. Additional add-ons (this can go into first post or reserved posts after)

I find the embedded link looks and feels better throughout the op if possible.
All sections should have a header with enlarged text and spaced out so people can read it easily.
I am hoping that this helps to make this section a little cleaner and easier. enjoy
The way I look at this is that it takes US weeks/days/hours to make these roms....we can take the time out to make sure that the op looks professional and clean
Also Make sure the op is fully ready before posting. I know we all get excited to release a rom but stating that half the stuff will be updated as time permits just shows that you are lazy and in a hurry which doesnt look good cause if thats the case then how does your rom run....
No posting a a rom thread without a DL link either
Thank you to Papa Smurf151 for the basis of this post.

☞[READ ME 1st] ☆.☆.☆ If YOU DID NOT CREATE "it" THEN IT DOESN'T BELONG IN DEVELOPMENT
NOTICE: If You did not create the ROM, KERNEL, FIX, MOD, APP, HACK, GUIDE, or if it's not a SOURCE CODE then read below...
If your thread can be phrased as a question, it DEFINITELY doesn't belong in Development either. If you post it in Development it will be moved/closed and you may get an infraction or a ban.
There is only 1 exception, stock ROMs are allowed, as long as the link does not require a registration to download the ROM.
You may start planning a [DEV] topic on General or QA and then have it moved to the Xperia X8 Android Development section once the actual Development has started.
☞ Development is classified as original work and/or documented edits and changes made to others work (with their permission) that makes it your own.
Stock ROM dumps that are modified (deodexed, etc.) from the manufacturer's original intent and then repackaged together classifies as development.
Kernel's and Recovery obviously classify as development as they are modified and compiled from source
☞ Themes are graphical/visual changes made to a ROM which make's the ROM visually different from the original work, i.e. different battery icons, a blue-color scheme, etc. They may be packaged up together with a full ROM and deployed the same way. Simply running a script (not made by you) to deodex and then packaging other people's work/MOD's into one place does not constitute original development.
After discussing the ongoing issues of mod roms/permissions and credits with RD's & senior members, we have decided to set out these guidlines...
Firstly and most important, you must have full permission to use others work, this is set out in Xda's rule 12...

Breaking this rule will lead to infractions/bans and will be strictly enforced.
These guidelines are being applied due to the ever growing issue of the X8 development forum becoming a trolling/flaming ground due to certain members using work without the required permissions. Developers in this forum are not happy and rightly so, they are all hardworking approachable people who deserve some respect here on Xda as without them your forums would be nothing! If you want to use there work then pm them, show them some common courtesy and they will be more than happy to reply. Do not assume you can just take without asking as if you do you will be infracted or banned.
If you are unsure of any of the above then please contact moderation who will only be too pleased to help you.
Enjoy the Forum guys and lets keep it a fun place to be.
THIS FORUM IS ONLY FOR RELEASING AND DEVELOPING ROMS AND KERNELS.
SOME GUIDES REGARDING S-OFF AND FLASHING WILL BE ALLOWED BUT MOST WILL BE LINKED IN A REFERENCE THREAD. "COLLECTIONS", "REFERENCES" AND "LIBRARIES" BELONG IN GENERAL SECTION.
Try to keep the development forum CLEAN! No offtopic posting and no questions.
Use the report button in an offending post to let us mods know we need to take action. Dont take matters into your own hands!!!
Sources need to be posted for all kernels!!!
You need to use TAGS like [ROM] or [KERNEL] and so on as used in all dev forums throughout XDA
Any disputes between developers should be handled by pm. No public posting in a dev thread regarding these matters
Rom issues should be discussed within their respective threads
Thread titles should ALWAYS coincide with ROMS ALREADY AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD!!! No advance notification of incoming ROM through thread title. A changelog for the yet unreleased Rom can be included in the OP or in another post CLEARLY MARKED as EXPECTED CHANGELOG
Posting in the development section means automatic ACCEPTANCE of the above Rules
All posts that are NOT about ROM development, or development in general will be closed or deleted and posters that will choose to disregard the previous guidelines will be infracted.

FAQ
Q Why a special Q&T Thread for a specific ROM??
A The bigger a ROM development thread gets, the greater the chance that posts are being placed in this thread that are not related to the ROM development itself, e.g. problems with flashing, installation, bugs, things not working etc. However this is understandable, it's not according to the guidelines of XDA for Development sections. Therefore the main goals of the ROM specific Q&T threads is to avoid this cluttering of the original develpment thread with these OT posts by redirecting the posters to the ROM specific Q&T thread and also to relieve the developer from answering these post, so he can dedicate his time to developing.
Q How to move my post to the Q&A/T thread?
A Copy the text of your post in the dev's thread, got to the Q&A/T thread and paste it there. After having done that, go back to the dev's thread, edit your post and change the text into: moved to Q&A/T thread, preferably accompanied with a link to this thread.
Q When I'm asked to move my post to the Q#A/T thread, do I have to do that?
A When you're asked to move your post, there will always be given an explanation by the OP of the Q&A/T, e.g. your post is not development related (f.i. SD card problems, etc), so please be so kind to move your post. If you want to help the dev to keep his original thread as clean as possible from OT posts, then the answer is, of course, YES. Although we cannot force you to move your post, it's highly recommended to do so
Q Where can I download this ROM and How do I install?
A You can find the link to download and installation instructions HERE. Pay close attention to this post, everything required for a successful flash is listed right here. If you fail to follow the instructions or meet the requirements for installation, you could run into some problems.
Q What are the known issues with these ROM's?
A See THE Developer's thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2362863.
Q How’s battery life?
A I see this question asked repeatedly across all ROMS. Honestly there is no way to give you an answer based on a ROM. There are too many variables in question and results vary from user to user and device to device. Battery life is going to depend on age and condition of your battery, your use habits with your device, installed apps, tweaks, settings, etc...
Q How do I...
A Ask your questions and report your issues in this thread. You will receive a response and hopefully get you back up and running this ROM to it's fullest
Explaining the purpose of our Q&A/T threads for specific ROM's to posters.
"Hi dear followers of this ROM,
in this post I will explain the goal of this specific thread created for this ROM with the permission of the Developer of this specific ROM.
This is a statement made in the Q&A/T template thread:
"While our forum has slowly been morphing, the one area we would like to keep original is Development
The goal is to alleviate the OT banter that occurs within any rom. While the XDA forum continues to grow, we need to help users work within the guidelines created by XDA. Over the last couple of years the average rom being created, has become a free for all chat thread. There tends to be much infighting and mod/developer cleaning.
The idea of this template is to create a Questions and Answers for each rom. This is in no way asking for Development to be moved here, rather any and all conversation that is non Development related to your conjoined Q&A."
This means that non-development related posts, should be posted - with the permission of the Dev - in this thread. What are the most common Off Topic posts, that should be posted in this Q&A/T thread?
1. Battery life related posts
2. Will this app work with this ROM
3. SD Card related problems
4. How do I dowmload and install this ROM, etc, etc
Hope to have given you enough information,
kindest regards, Kuzibri

Sup guys. I may be retarded, but I searched everywhere for a stock android KitKat (or even Android L (which is way less likely)) rom and I can't find any.
Is there a "Google Play Edition" Galaxy S5 rom? Or an Unofficial cyanogenmod rom? If so, please link me to it, cause I can't find this anywhere.
Thanks

You really didn't search nor read the rules of posting in development section.
Link to Q&A section where this should have been posted:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/help
Link to Unified Development:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/unified-development
Finally, one reason you didn't find anything in your "search" is because there really aren't any usable options yet. No Google Play edition (If you had checked Google's store you would have seen that there is no S5 for sale). CyanogenMod is hit or miss with people reporting calling echos, wake locks, and other issues such as no camera. Since all other "AOSP" ROMs are usually built using the CyanogenMod base, all of those ROMs are having the same problems.
@github is correct, and it's obvious that this is a Q&A thread, not a Development thread. Thread is now moved to the Q&A section.
Please see the rules link in my signature if you are unclear on anything - I put the applicable rules below for easy access.
Applicable Rules:
Rule #1: Search
Rule #15: Keep threads / posts on-topic
Whilst a minor amount of off-topic posting may be overlooked, the general rule is that your posts / threads must be relevant to the Forum / thread in which you are posting.
General Forums - For news and announcements relating to your device.
Q&A Help & Troubleshooting Forums - For all question / request threads and posts. If there is no Q&A Help & Troubleshooting forum, use the General Forum of the relevant device
Accessories Forum - For posts related to accessories relevant to the device
Development Forums (ones with the word development in the title) - For Developers to post release threads e.g. ROMs and Kernels including modifications to kernels, bootloaders, ROMs, etc.
Themes and Apps Forums - For the posting of Themes and / or Apps as well as announcements & discussions including modifications made to Themes and Apps.

The great Chinese programmers of the Samsung corporation in the firmware SM-N9860_CHC_N9860ZCU4FVI6_fac blocked the installation of many applications, including google play. At the same time, an attempt to flash ODIN3 to the N9860ZSS4GWA2_13_4File_Hong Kong (OZS) version does not lead to success. I disabled my Samsung and Google accounts, but we still have an error during the firmware process. How to roll back to Hong Kong. Tell me the latest stable hong kong firmware for 9860 thank you. And what else needs to be enabled or disabled in this phone so that the firmware is successful.
Hello @Grimuare , you are reminded that posts in the Development section must adhere to the Rules for Posting In Development. Furthermore, you are reminded of XDA Rule #15:
15. Keep threads / posts on-topic
ROMs and Kernels including modifications to kernels, bootloaders, ROMs, etc., as well as R&D development discussion threads designed with an end goal
