Flashing my i777 back to factory from i9100 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I bought this phone used 2 of my buttons would not work, and my voice calls can not be heard on either end of the call. I later found out that someone must have flashed my phone to GT i9100. The model on the back says its a i777. Well I read this article http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313659 and found out that I need to reset my binary count which is showing 3. So I purchased a usb jig, turned my phone off and plugged it in. It puts it in odin mode but my count still reads the same. I am not very smart when it comes to all of this, it has taken me 3 weeks just to figure all of this out. But any help is appreciated on what I would need to do next.

Read the stickies more. There is a return to stock thread you can use

Resetting the flash counter would only benefit you if you were trying to do warranty exchange. If your phone has already been flashed there is more than likely a custom recovery like cwm installed, if so you could just download a ROM and flash it. Do you get the option to go into recovery from power menu? It would come up as an option after pushing power button then selecting reboot.
Edit...you could also try to boot into recovery by using the buttons. With phone off power on while holding power button plus volume up and volume down then releasing power button when first screen starts.

Sorry to be so late to the party.
The fact that you can not reset the flash counter with the jig means that when the I9100 firmware was flashed, the I-777 secondary bootloader was replaced with a modified GT-I9100 secondary bootloader. This in itself will make no functional difference, but you can reflash the I777 secondary bootloader if you wish. See the Download Repository. There is also the alternative of resetting the flash counter with an application called Triangle Away.

Bootlooping, Odin mode stuck, need a bit of advice

OK, here the story. My SGS2 started acting up a few days ago, it thinks it's charging all the time now. I searched and found that this seems to be a common problem with the port, so I cleaned the contacts on the microUSB connector, but it's not helping. I decided today that I'll just take it in since it's still under warranty, and I'd like to do it after work today since I live almost an hour away from the AT&T Store near the hospital. Problem was, I'm running AOKP on it and I don't have access to a computer with Odin on it where I can restore it to stock. Then I find the thread that details how I can download the .tar file and flash on the phone with Mobile Odin. Seems to work great, but it goes into a bootloop afterwards. One member posted that he had the same problem, but it was solved by booting into recovery and doing a full wipe. Here's where I have a problem now.
I can only boot into Odin mode, and it gives me the choice where it's asking me if I'm sure I want to load a custom binary or cancel and reboot. When I click that I want to load the binary, I get to the Odin mode screen; it reads
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
Downloading...
Do not turn off target!!
That's it. If I reboot normal, it goes into bootloop. Otherwise, it sits there with the battery logo showing, whether it's plugged in or not.
I'm pretty sure when I get home tonight, I can plug it in and get something going on my desktop, but I'd like to hit up the store before I head home. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions?
If you can't boot into recovery using the three button method, I'm not aware of any way to put it into recovery mode without a computer. You didn't say, but I assume you used vol+, vol-, & pwr?

Yup, and that's what comes up. I'm thinking it has something to do with the fact that the phone thinks it's plugged in. I guess I'll just have to plug it in my desktop when I get home and work on it from there. Worst case scenario is that I just take it to AT&T tomorrow as it is, tell them about the false charging problem, and when I tried to do factory reset to see if it would fix things, this is where it's stuck.
I can't believe I spent the first 30 years of my life without a cell phone and now I don't feel right if it won't work for a day or two.

I'm having the same problem after trying to install S-Voice. You indicate that there is a way to get into recover using a computer. Can you explain?
Thanks.

need adb.
adb reboot recovery
Google
Update:
I actually managed to catch it when it didn't think it was plugged in and do full wipe. It worked after that, sorta. It didn't think it was plugged in all the time, but it was still real funky; like the power usage curve started high, had a sudden big drop, then went up from there. Plus, when it was off, it would flash between a grey battery with a circle and a green on, back and forth. And I couldn't power it on unless it was plugged in. Once I showed them that, AT&T gave me a new SGS2. It's rocking Shostock2 now, so problem solved.

S3 stuck in safe mode

My galaxy s3 has been stuck in safe mode for two days now which is frustrating as only the stock apps can be used. I have tried different solutions, which I list below.
How it happened.
I was initially on 4.1.1 and when I woke up I saw a notification to upgrade to 4.1.2, after that it did its thing and rebooted into safe mode.
solutions tried
1. Reboot - didnt work
2. take out battery for few minutes and reboot - didnt work
3. boot into stock recovery to try to factory reset phone, Volume button not working so cant select other option apart from reboot. - didnt work
4. Download stock rom from samfirmware and flash using odin - didnt work
5. Flash CWM using odin, didnt factory reset and flashed custom rom (omega). It boots into safe mode as well
6. Downloaded stock ics firmware, flashed using odin . it boots but stuck on samsung logo.
I dont know what else to do. Although am thinking downgrade the bootloader to one meant for ICS the try to flash to ICS stock rom again, would try this later in the day.
p.s Ignore more signature I own a galaxy s3 as well.

It's Volume button work fine??
The problem has nothing to do with reboot. As you can see have already mentioned reboot as part of the solutions I tried.
My device is fine with ICS firmwares but has issues with Jellybean (stock and modded rom including CM10.1). Currently am running ICS on it as thats the only way the phone works properly.
I installed 4.0.4 (XAALF2) via Odin, but it got stuck on samsung logo. Then turned it off and flashed CWM to do factory reset as the volume key doesnt work on stock recovery. After that everything worked fine. I was able to update to the latest 4.0.4 via OTA.
The problem is hardware, so you might want to contact Samsung.
I found some information about "Safe Mode".
It seems that every Android phone has a safemode.
"On Samsung’s devices, almost all users will be able to access Safe Mode with by pressing and holding the menu button during start up. If it’s a capacitive menu key, make sure to release and press again each time the LED under the key comes back on. You don’t want to miss the catch for Safe Mode because the button released itself."
Here is the link where i get the information: http://www.tested.com/tech/android/...ds-safe-mode-to-save-a-phone-from-boot-loops/
You can try it this way, maybe it will work.
Good luck.

I think u missing the point, the phone works fine with 4.0.4 firrmwares, it only get stuck in safe mode when updated to Jellybean 4.1.1 and above. No amount of key combination, factory reset or even custom rom was able to fix the safe boot.
The best option is to send it back to samsung, its definitely hardware issue.

I'am sorry for misunderstanding u. I think you could be right. Maybe it is a hardware issue.
Don't forget to "unroot" and reset the "flash counters".

i did a reboot and it removed the safe mode :good:
My personal experience, i overclocked my SGS3 with Boeffla kernel on ARHD then i got freeze screen and phone reebot into safe mode, I entered into recovery and reebot then everithing was fine again.
Safe mode occurs when something in the phone is not working properly , could be hardware or software, however, stuck on it is not a good signal.
my advice is to send the device to service.
Do not forget to reset flash counter via Triangle Away and flash stock factory firmware.
Good Luck! :good:
note 3 stuck in save mode window
This problem occurs after changing to a new simcard not already installed before in the device.
1. Power off the galaxy note 3.
2. Remove the micro simcard from the slot by sliding.
3. Power on the device without the simcard.
4. It will run in a normal mode, if so, this will actually diagnosed that there is a simcard defined by the administrator as default. In the security setting in setting menu and for protection against theft, the original simcard must be insert to unlock this choice of detection of any change in new simcard. New simcard is defined as strange and theft suspected.
I hope this make you reach some solution for your trouble.

Same issue here, it is hardware
I went through a lot of threads and not one had a solution. So I will post here what worked for me.
Customer came to my store with Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710T) that was stuck in safe mode. I tried everything on this thread, nothing worked. Luckily I had a older Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710) with a broken screen, so I switched over the motherboard from the customer's phone to the old one - I did connect the customer's original LCD to the motherboard since my old phone had its LCD broken. Powered it on, no safe mode.
So at this point I just transferred the volume buttons flex cable to the customer's phone. Powered it on, no safe mode again.
Hope it helps someone!

[Q] Stuck in CWM - Power button fail

Alright guys. I hardly post on here because I know many questions have been answered. I searched and was unlucky.
I had my phone rooted last year, but went completely back to stock because I was tired of the battery drain. Recently, maybe a month or 2 ago? I updated to 4.0.4. That's when my power button stopped working. All of a sudden, about a week after, it started working again. So I was happy. A week ago, it stopped again. Using my phone everyday, it got really frustrating. I was dumb and didn't search for a fix, which I later found a temporary fix.
So I decided to root again. Well, when I plug my phone into my laptop, it tells me "USB device not recognized" so I looked for a way to root using mobile. Found a few videos on YouTube with links with an .apk and did it that way. I had CWM backed up in Titanium Backup, so I restored it and opened it. I wanted to flash a ROM on my phone, but I didn't think before I went into CWM. Stupid, I know lol.
Now I'm stuck in CWM, without a working power button. I tried taking the battery out, and putting it back in. It still boots into CWM. I tried taking the battery out, plugging in my phone, and putting the battery back in, and still CWM. I've also tried taking the battery out and leaving it out for a while then putting it back in. And also, taking the battery out and leaving it out for a while, plugging in my phone, then putting the battery back in. Still in CWM. I've also tried hitting the Home button (does nothing). Nothing happens when I hit the Search or Back buttons either. I hit the Menu button, and it hides the menu, then I hit it again and the menu comes back.
Luckily, I'm due for an upgrade next month so recently I've been using my super old "Krzr" flip phone. I miss having a Smartphone though!
Any help would be appreciated!! Please don't flame me lol

Why don't you try repairing the power key. I strongly believe It may be a hardware problem
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
If you have USB debugging enabled you could connect through ADB and force a standard restart.
If that's not an option and you can't get out of recovery (Had a very similar issue with my wife's phone when her power button went) you can use an odin 1 click downloader to revert it to stock and it will then restart normally. I then used the odin 1 click downloader to install a rooted stock rom. After that I took a touch enabled kernel (like Siyah) and installed that through Android Terminal emulator. Now you can boot into CWM and be able to use the touch screen to navigate. It's a pain and it requires a full wife and reversion to stock but it does work. Then you flash a rom that allows for holding the volume down to wake the screen or a kernel like AJK that allows for swiping across the screen to wake the phone.
I'm sure your power button failed so as the previous poster suggested you can look into getting it repaired. I don't have the link on me but there was a place listed here on the forums before that were like $40 to do the hardware replacement.

Thanks for the info. Late last night I pressed the power button while "reboot" was highlighted in CWM and it finally worked. But it only worked that once, at least it got me out of CWM. My phone reboots a LOT. At one point, it rebooted at least 3 times in a row; getting to the AT&T screen and rebooting then.
I've decided to just deal with it lol I'm probably going to see if AT&T can kindly let me upgrade this week instead of waiting until June 1st.
Again, I appreciate the info!!
Do a clean flash
Ok since you are saying your phone's power button started being flaky after a ROM flash, I'm thinking most likely it is not a hardware issue.
Bad flashes, loading different bootloaders, or kernel flashes and then panics happen for various reasons.
You need a clean flash, reset to factory (erase data/cache multiple times) and reboot.
Back up first (like right now), then gather your operation tools.
1-Download I777 usb drivers from Samsung itself, uninstall the current ones, and install the new drivers (Do this plz)
2-Download the stock ROM from [INDEX]AT&T I777 GSll {Root/ROM's/Tools} thread by t3chn0s1s in AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Android Development (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301682)
3-from that thread get: A) Odin B) UCLE5 ROM
4-Run Odin and try connecting your phone to see if it stays in the Download mode successfully (phone off, Odin loaded on your PC, plug in your phone to your PC while holding down both volume keys, release the keys once your COM connection port lights up) sometime holding down the volume down only button works instead of both depending on what you flashed before.
5-load up the stock .tar UCLE5 file in the PDA section, leave all the Odin default check marks on and add the flash bootloaders check mark too(DO NOT check the repartition option)
6- once a clean flash finally happened (doesn't matter if the phones boots up all the way or not yet) pull the battery, and get to recovery and reset / factory reset and let the newly flashed ROM boot up
7-let it settle for 10-15 minutes and then reboot it.
Good luck,
I727-CM10.1

[Q] Could it be that i accidentally bricked my Samsung Galaxy s Advance I9070p

Hello my fellow people. I have a question.
I had factory reset my Samsung galaxy s advance i9070p and then wanted to root it from 2.3.6 gingerbread to 4.1.2 JB.
I used odin to root it but i used I9070XXLQ4_I9070SERLQ4_SER as the md5 file. With i used the original i9070p download package what had the tar file. The firmware my phone originally had was xxlk4 but instead of that i used xxlq4. But after rooting and odin saying pass i unplugged the phone and saw that it was at the black screen and nothing came up. I tried holding the power button down but nothing i tried going to download mode with holding the power, volume down button plus menu button, but still nothing.
Could it be that i had hard-bricked my phone?
When i plug it in to my PC it makes a double beep at first then after a second it does a single beep. But it doesn't show any connection signs.
If it's hard-bricked then is there any chance to get it back to life.
My Phone is: Samsung Galaxy S Advance I9070p 2.3.6 GB. Firmware is originally xxlk4.

Something very similar just happened to me. I got a Samsung Galaxy S Advance from my company, but since I have another phone I decided to upgrade it to Jelly Bean 4.1.2 using odin to root it. Just like the poster above, oding said "PASS" but didn't reboot my phone. Not even a flicker on the screen, I see no activity that the phone is even charged or anything. The battery is charged, so I have no clue what could be wrong. What I've tried so far:
1)
Unplugged it and tried to boot it normally, didn't work.
2)
Took the battery hour for 1h+, boot normally, didn't work.
3)
Took the battery out for some time again, boot into download mode, didn't work.
4)
Take the battery out, put it in again. Hold down volume UP and volume DOWN simultaneously, power on. Didn't work -- NOTE! When the phone is plugged into my PC, the computer makes a noise that beep is being recognized as plugged into the computer, a second later it makes a beep indicating something was unplugged... nothing more happens.
Please help. I'm rather new to Android phones, and I would appreciate any assistance

[Q] i777 cant flash with odin3 stuck on factoryfs.img

hi, im new here, the problem i have is this: i have a galaxy s2 i777, i had the issue that whenever i restarted my phone it would go into recovery mode, that was after i tried to put cyanogenmod 10 in it, before that, my power button stopped working after trying to root with framaroot and choosing supersu and restarted, so i had to flash because i couldnt choose an option on recovery mode with my power button not working and i did, and flashed to 4.1.2, then i tried to root again with framaroot but this time superuser, and when i restarted the phone it got stuck on samsung, so i tried to flash it again but now im getting stuck on factoryfs.img with odin, ive tried with 3 different roms, ICS 4.0.3, 4.0.4 and JellyBean 4.1.2, but always the same, also, when i restart now i get the message "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode on kies".

You need to perform a wipe data/factory reset from within recovery. Since you have a bad power button, and cannot select that in stock recovery, you either need to get a touch recovery onto the phone, or you need to get the power button replaced. I'm not aware of a touch recovery that is in tar format that you can flash with Odin, but maybe someone else knows. Also, the recovery will need to match the system so that the phone will boot. Since you have flashed stock 4.1.2 but subsequent attempts to flash did not complete, you probably still have stock 4.1.2 on the phone. If so, that would require AJK v4.9 NoSwap, but again, I'm not aware of a tar version of that kernel.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
With regard to your other thread, there is a UCKH7 pit file in the Download Repository, but no one has posted a pit from UCMD8. I would expect that they are the same, though, since these phones never get repartitioned when upgraded. However, I doubt that will help your situation. What you need to do is perform a wipe data/factory reset.

If you can solder and are handy at such things, you can get the replacement button for about $10 or $15. Or you can send it out to a repair service for usually about $40 to $50.
While you have a faulty power button:
To turn the phone on, hold down vol+ and vol- and plug in the usb cable, as if you were starting download mode. When you get to the warning screen, remove the cable and press the vol- button to cancel. The phone will boot into system.
There are multiple apps in the play store that turn the screen on and off. A good one is Gravity Screen - On/Off.
