I'm pretty interested in customizing my own ROM, I'm Actually using TheSlim but I'd like to be able to do my own version with my own wall papers and ADW launche, I might do this at first only for me but I'm willing to learn to build better ROMs for everyone, I'm interested primarly cause I have a Telcel branded Xperia U which is not unlockable and I previously owned a Motorola Defy+ and I loved the community and all the ROMs they had so I decided to start learning by cooking (?) already made ROMs only I need a little advice or tutorial on what things can be made and what can be removed, the scripts and fixses I can search all that myself.
Thanks in regards.
Dude, This is the wrong Section. You should've asked this in the Q&A instead...
Please read the Forum Rules (Pinned Second Post in this Development Section)
Anyways Thanks a lot for your interest in Development. Hope you have a good learning journey...
I am interested too, do you have some links that introduce the topic?
Maybe look here: http://www.xperiaplanet.nl/index.html
and then by guides
Thanks for the move and also for the page, Ill start there.

Hi,
I would like to propose the creation of a central reference thread for each sub-forum within the X10mini/pro fora.
They would contain rules, how to search, basics, FAQs, links to rooting, tutorials/guides, mods, themes, apps,... with respect to the respective sub-forum.
To get an idea check e.g. Hero CDMA Android Dev.
This will hopefully
-help organizing the fora more clearly
-prevent the same questions coming up all over again
-provide a useful pool of up-to-date information for both new and experienced users
-reduce everyone's need to search for fundamental things
-negate the need to otherwise sticky so many threads that the fora are just becoming unclear and clogged
You would be responsible to propose threads kept for future reference.
Opinions pls.
Thx and Best, DK
i think we have a thread like the CDMA thread made by dettofatto. the only thing is that we have multiple threads on same topic which could be deleted
just checked them briefly and yes, very good and helpful, not stickied though
so referencing them would be a must but imo wouldn't contradict my proposal about the central thread...
still, that's just me and its about you...will therefore patiently wait for further comments on this
Ed. I can add a poll if you think that's more helpful/faster
Sounds good.. and while we are at it.. get people to stick to the threads.. put all Themes in the Themes and Apps thread (not in Development) keep DEV stuff in the Dev Thread etc.. perhaps add a Newbie Thread where newbs can ask for help with issues so they don't fill the other threads...
Why are there Themes in the Dev section?
But yes a reorg is needed.
Kiwi
My concern is create two separate forums for x10 mini and x10 mini pro

unfortunately happens regularly, excuses are manyfold and it would be naive to think this project will prevent it
still should be well worth the effort
cleanup and heavy thread shifting will be done anyway, already started but due to time restriction only on the dev fora...but will be continued

I assume you mean for all subfora and not only for dev?
are accessories, t&a and so on so different that one cannot be used for/is incompatible to the other device?
then I would talk to admin, so pls enlighten me
I think that is fine and useful to put all important sw,updates and guides in same thread and link discussions only to this thread, of course then each sw has own discussions for help and experiences.
I would like a forum reorg
i also think that there are too many simillar threads, some that are just questions and are very missleading sometimes, also in the wrong place, maybe a structure like
*general
--tutorials/findings/configs/etc
--questions
*developement
--e10i/u20i
---->findings/breakthroughs/tutorials
---->questions
--e10i specific
---->findings/breakthroughs/tutorials
---->questions
--u20i specific
---->findings/breakthroughs/tutorials
---->questions
*themes
--method tutorials
--themes postings
--questions
*requests
or something like that because a reorganization is in need
also i think that there should be a section for both mini and pro because they may be different in hardware, but many methods, apps and ideas frome one work on the other and i feel that sometimes we miss out on developement from one or the other
hi
thx all for the contribution, I waited some time hoping additional ones might be posted, but maybe all are happy with the current suggestions...or waiting for my response...
lets comment:
all devices get as default the layout
xx General
xx Development
xx Accessories
xx Themes & Apps
device specific we have the known two dev fora, one for e10i and one for u20i and I don't think I can convince admin to create another one for shared development
not that I don't see the potential advantage, but I assume "misuse" would dominate so I'm fine as it is
still I also considered it wise to provide a place to collect development results of any kind usable on both devices
so alternately you have to specify dual usage in the thread title and we can also create an additional thread with references on that
reaching certain criteria a separate Q&A can be added, which I personally like very much and will address to admin immediately when a fore mentioned criteria are fulfilled
so as mentioned we are bound to the general forum layout, but what we might achieve could be like this:
*general
---->tutorials/findings/configuration/requests/FAQs/troubleshooting/references/how to/etc
---->e.g. separate thread like "newbies questions here"
---->OT chat thread if you like
*accessories
---->all accessories (batteries, cases, screen protection,...)
*development
--e10i specific
---->development (non app, non theme)/findings/breakthroughs/tutorials/roms/guides/modifications
---->reference thread for everything proven working/usable on both devices
--u20i specific
---->development (non app, non theme)/findings/breakthroughs/tutorials/roms/guides/modifications
*themes and apps
---->method tutorials/themes postings/applications posting/screen shots/miscellaneous (like splash screens,...)
*questions&answers (hopefully soon)
---->for all the rest (when available)
not stating this is finalized but it should give a good idea
comments pls
Cheers, DK
Reorganize! Hellyah!
Reorganize! Hellyah!
I intend to start this weekend, because I won't find the time before, but it's scheduled...
sounds really good!
maybe creating at the theme section a difference for mini and pro, or does the most of them on both models?
I would like to see a Q&A section. It would be nothing but beneficial as a place for people to ask questions without cluttering the general thread.

im a new vibrant owner.. and i heard about those rom.. what are those rom?? why should i flash them on my phone?? what are the benefits of it?? where can I find all the list of rom?? any suggestions of whats the best rom to flash??? what are you guys using?? sorry for many questions but answering any of them would be appreciated. thank you...
Welcome vibrant is a awesome phone.
Just so you know there is no best rom for all people . If there was we wouldnt have so many developers.
As rom is basically your phones operating system .
Why flash one ? I do it because I like to tinker. These guys often skin the roms much better than samsung.
I also like freedom of choice and added speed boost.
Often times our developers update the roms faster than the companies do!
You will have to try these roms for yourself to see which one is best .
I am fascinated and captivated by the vibrant screen on my epic galaxy s.
Hey man sorry if this seems a bit rude but ,why are you posting such lame questions, when you havent even READ all the avalible info concerning your questions first? Instead of being lazy and asking the members here to do it for you? This web site gets eaten up by precious bandwith by frivous redundant questions all the time that can be answered [most likely] with all the stickys including well thought out bibles, and so on! Do your due dilegence first then if all fails then ask a question here! Most of the veterans here bend over backwards here to help, but when you registered it asked you to read and search first, before asking redundant questions that most likely have already been asked!
try all of them
Careful with your questions, there are some mean people in here. But it is true, read up as much as you can before you ask. Here is some useful information on how to go on with your Vibrant, once you get a kick start, you'll be fine.

Enjoy!
Isn't this the q&a forum?? yes, i did read stuffs on the developers area and sorry for being noob that I can't understand them which leads me here on "Vibrant Q&A" forum. Anyways, thanks for those who answered some of my questions.
Welcome to the forum, my few bits of advice would be before trying any rom read the responses people have made in that roms installation guide. You'll see what problems people commonly encounter when rushing into things, and learn how to avoid them. Make sure you read everything carefully and dont follow directions for any phone other than the model you have.
Be warned flashing firmware is dangerous even when done right. Take every precaution, make backups! Read directions twice! That said, welcome once again and good luck.

OK bro well sorry for leaning hard on ya, you see I myself am a noob here, but I read everything I could , but the key to reading here is to understand the definition of terminology first and the bible that has these terms is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771111
Also here is the addy for the first suggested bible to read first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876779
Also here's some excellent easy to understand tutorials: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=938875
Look its not that I don't feel your frustration, but ya gotta do some work at this first!
Then if you've made a gallant effort to educate yourself on what to do, then there are people here who will hold your hand as you proceed, some others aren't as patient or understanding, only because they are prolly burned out from all the noobs such as you and I, who have asked questions not really necessary, when we could've answered them ourselves! So with all that being said, good luck and take a few breaths, I myself am still overwhelmed with info saturation and am currently still confused on some issues! But I keep reading and dissecting the info till it gels together in my head, and then I go step by step, but I always make backups and have the proper programs and apps installed to rescue myself from bricking the phone!
I've been looking into this myself and what I think I'd like to do is grab the best bits of the various ROMs I've used. No disrespect to the guys who have been making some brilliant ROMs but I'd like to dabble with a deeper layer of customisation
Is there a "kitchen" programme that will allow me to do this for x10? Also how do I check a programmes compatibility with certain kernels and basebands? Do Android .apk files rely on external libraries or files like Windows do? If so is there a way I can check an .apk's dependencies?
Sorry for so many questions but this is new to me and would like to get a handle on where to start. Thanks in advance
you can start with posting in the right sections

If you really know what you're doing, download the zips for the ROMs you like to mix and start mixing!
To see apk depedencies, perhaps decompiling them with APK Manager and checking the AndroidManifest could give you a clue.
Don't really know that much, so perhaps someone else can give you
a better answer!
Cheers Immortal, I'm guessing simply copy and pasting between ROMs won't work that well. Will look into Android Manifest, appreciated
Many apologies riginal, whereabouts should I have been looking? I assumed that being as I was asking for information about ROM building, and leading into a discussion about baseband compatability that here would be a good place to ask. I don't want to treat this place as merely a repository of other peoples work, I was hoping to learn and contribute
Chef Central has no x10 specific sections or threads that have been updated anytime recently. The X10 Q&A section here garnered no answers, not even pithy ones like your one above that serves no constructive purpose and was merely written to build your post count
You even failed to direct me to a correct area. How am I ever to learn without the simplest direction? You didn't even report my post so the actual mods could move it, or PM me so I could delete and repost elsewhere. Back to moderation school for you, I'm confiscating your banstick as well. Put that e-peen away, seriously, lead, follow or get out of the way
Apologies to the real mods, but self aggrandaising posts such as his are one of the worst things about the internet, especially fora with public post counts and status bars

Check the topic of how to port miui by rdanner, it give a good description on porting
Sent from my X10 TripNMiUI-IRIS using XDA Premium App
Dude first Of all
U can certainly start with using dsixda s kitchen which is x10 compatible
U will have to start mixing only to learn which will help u to learn
Check this post it will help with porting roms from other devices having the same gpu and CPU like nexus one or HTC desire

Please, don't get me wrong, but last time I counted there was near 30 ROMs.
Which of them are really "original" and deserve to be here?
More than this post deserves to be in development!!!
But he does have a point!
The dev forums are for development threads only - not for discussions. If you don't understand that then don't post anywhere.
Edit: I've msg'd a mod.
A lot of the "roms" in this thread are not "roms" but "kernels", and yes they are original
Its all about choice mate simple as that if you want to build a rom you can as can many others its nothing but a hobby .
jje
its all quite pathetic really the state of this forum. Mods have made a crap decision, the vast majority of people know that but they dont want to go back on it and look stupid.
They should get over themselves, its a bloody forum to help and share things. If they wanted to tidy up the development section a bit then the answer is quite simple and been mentioned many times.
Have a ROM section, a KERNEL section and a THEME section
a rom is a rom is a rom, stop sodding about with them.
They changed it this way as a temporary solution because of the crapload of roms in there. They're working on a new interface to make everything easier. Stop *****ing now okay?
Hi, as you all know, CM9 Theme Chooser has already been implemented into recent builds of CM9. Any one know how to start on the basic things like changing the color schemes for the interface and such?
As far as theming goes, the guides I've seen are not beginner friendly, especially for lurkers like me who want to give back to the community who has nurtured the love of Android in me, but have never been able to comprehend the instructions.
Anyone willing to create and share a guide to do basic theming? Would appreciate the effort to help noob themers like me!

Anyone willing to provide a guide? I'm really interested in doing this but without a guide its impossible to do so. I know that CM7 guides help a wee bit but the CM9 themes are made differently...
Please help!
I would also like to know where i can get started.
Yes, I would like too. But it seems that here is no friendly people. D: Sorry for bad english.
wow.. so no one wants to answer?!?! I have been looking for a solid guide for 2 days, Can't seem to find a way to change up the colors of the menu and what not
