Hi all, I am getting a new phone pretty soon and am trying to decide between the LG Optimus 4X HD or Optimus VU.
Note that Optimus VU is the international one which is the tegra 3 quad core and not the dual core.
I have been a LG fan for a while now! They make great phones but slow on updates but I am not a person to fuss over that because this is what XDA is made for.
So can anyone tell me what to get and which one is better?
Question to Devs of XDA: why is there not a LG Optimus VU thread on XDA?
Wait for sometime n get a lg nexus 4
I only gave myself 2 choices and that's the 2...and my country isn't famous for its nexus sales

I have LG optimus 4X HD.. Id do this: Wait for nexus 4.
LG optimus 4x hd has a locked bootloader, u can't install roms, themes, kernels etc.. You have a totally locked phone.. just like the crappy iphone. You can ofcourse do more with the android phone.. but its not worth it. Get the Nexus 4.

Although I've had nothing but good experiences with lg phones, I don't believe in brand loyalty. If a different company is offering a better deal then in my opinion, you should go with them. Personally i think the galaxy ace 2 looks really good, it's high end hardware with a decent price, if it was available in canada I probably would've bought it by now. If you're dead set on an LG, I'd recommend staying away from the optimus L3, L5, L7, and black as they really aren't much of an upgrade compared to the optimus one. The optimus 2x and 4x look alright but they're probably still fairly expensive for what they are.
Galaxy ace plus and mini 2 are also awesome, and got JB update

If you're talking about the GT-S7500, then it's a great phone hardware-wise, but it's got horrible, horrible aftermarket developer support. You can't even find CM7.2 for the damn phone. Hopefully the rumors of an official JB update is true. Also, I don't know if this is true of most Samsung phones, but the Ace Plus is really sensitive to being flashed and easily bricked. Rooting and flashing a custom ROM on my A+ was more nerve wracking (since I didn't have a usb jig should things go wrong) than the time I bricked my O1 for 2 days.

Well, as i'm sure that HTC and Samsung probably have better phones, LG offers good phones in low prices comparing to those of other companies.

I know that some have speculated that it might be $400. I just hope than it has 16gb not 8gb.
PS I wish I could get the Xiaomi Mi-Two ($315). http://www.anandtech.com/show/6163/xiaomi-announces-miui-phone-mitwo-with-apq8064-inside
I have loved my p500 but have used my partners S3 and would definitely get one of those if I could afford it, also my brother has an HTC one X and would also recommend one of those, I like the sense UI a lot.

Hi I currently Have a Note II and was looking into the Optimus G. I think the Note II is a great phone but I think its too large for me. And the optimus G looks like a nice phone with a good size. What do you think...Optimus G or Note II?
Thanks
Size is the factor here. You say you don't like the size of the Note II, so get the Optimus G. You answered your own question.

optimus G has great specs, but I have a really hard time trusting LG products. play with it and judge for yourself- it's a good phone if you think it's not going to be buggy.
Why not the Nexus 4?

Hi guys I'm planning to upgrade my phone from a gnex to optimus g and do the n4 conversions because I like the custom rom buffet so much (been spoiled with my gnex) I think I'm capable of doing that
I'm currently talking to someone on Craigslist who'd sell it to me for 250 (maybe less) and i'm wondering if it's worth it? I can't find an N4 in my budget range (i dont plan on spending extra for n5)
Also does anyone have experience with the n4 conversion? I'd be able to flash any n4 rom? Or is the stock rom good enough?

You should be able to get the 16gb n4, straight from Google play, for $250.

The 16GB Nexus 4 is a steal at $250 brand new. I'd go for that over the Optimus G at this point.

I Lrrrv <3 my 64GB SDXC card support way too much to be able to switch personally, plus I picked up the LGOG for $224 on ebay some 6 months back.
Just waiting on the G2.
But, from a pure support and warranty standpoint, brand new Nexus4 vs used LGOG for the same price, I'd get the brand new for the peace of mind alone, or lowball your friend

No one should go for an Optimus G expecting a custom AOSP-based ROM (i.e. not a modded LG ROM) to be as stable as a stock Nexus 4. Plus, any Nexus is going to be supported by both Google and the dev community for way longer than the Optimus G will be (there isn't even an official 4.2 ROM yet!).
Also would add that if OP ends up with an Optimus G, the Nexus 4 conversion is not worth the risks, especially since there are quite a few well-maintained ROMs available for the E970 (just look at the changelogs).
Thanks for the responses guys. I ended up finding a decent priced Nexus 4 which should arrive next week ^_^
I need the developer/Google support so much

But new for a lg g 150 or even 200 is the much much better deal. The lg g is a better phone. The moto g is great but for the same price u or less get the better lg g. Just not much cases for the G version from att.

Bought a G2 in October a few weeks after launch - great phone but I always change phones after about 6 months. Normally I'd have waited until after Mobile World Congress to sell but this was such a good deal for a nice device that I jumped a bit early. Now I have a phone I can tolerate for a little bit along with plenty of cash for the next big thing. Maybe the G2 Pro or something.
The lg g flex it looks pretty sick. I wonder what iPhone people feel since they always change to the same phone
I am going to buy g3, pro 2, and the flex to see which of the 3 I will like the best. Then I'll have 2 phones for sale. I currently have a g2, of and the og pro. As far as lg products are concerned I didnt like the s4 so I sold it. Phones are getting cheaper for lg compared to Samsung. Also I got a 3.00 pay raise so these new phones got affordable.

Well as it stands I currently have the e970/e980 and the g2. I will buy the other 3 when they are out and about. I will sell my g pro and g2. The e970 has a cracked digitizer up in the corner but works fine. I mill through phones very fast. Wife gets annoyed when I buy extra phones for Pandora or media remotes. So I often have 1-2 of each device.

I have an e970, been looking around for a g2 for a while now. It may be a few more months until g flex and whatever else makes it out. It'll be cool if we can make out a deal on the g2 when the time comes around
edit: didnt realize G Flex is out already

Go with the lg og you wont be disappointed. The moto g is a nice phone but is a downgrade in comparison to the og with aosp or stock. You can always root then debloat stock and have the lg goodies. Plus 2gb of ram over the motog's 1gb. 8mp camera(lg) vs 5mp camera(moto). Plus lte on the lg optimus g and sd expansion etc etc.....

Well the lg g has an 8 mega camera. A better front camera a better processor a better screen not by much but it is better and so what bitter. The lg g does has more bloatware but u can easily root it and put an cm11 ROM or so on it. U get a better speced phone with the lg g in comparison to the moto g. And it is also cheaper then the moto g. Remember the moto g is a phone made as an beginner smartphone the lg g was a flagship device and made for being a high end phone. So there is no question the lg g is better. But the moto g is a great phone but u get the lg g for a insane low price and better specs. And also has the lg g LTE and NFC what the moto g does not have.
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk
The way I see it other than the android version lo og out classes moto g in every way... just sayin. Also the lg og may feel like it gets hot but its the fact it has a glass back. Makes the device feel hotter than most devices.
Can someone tell me if our phones will benefit from this???

Week I am no developer but it could be possible that it somehow could be reverted to the lg g. Since we have a few Roms that are based off lg g pro.

Here is a comparison. They have different SoC's and radios. Not sure if that is a deal breaker but other than that they are almost legitimately close on several specs. Hence why I asked if it is possible that leak was good for our phones. I am hoping it is. Who knows?
