[Q] Cannot root new Black Galaxy S3 I9300 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! I've got a problem with my new Black S3, I just got it today and I immediately upgraded to Jelly Bean 4.1.1. After a successful update, I tried rooting, Odin displays a PASS but after rebooting, my S3 is not root. No superSU icon or CWM icon. Is there a problem rooting the Black S3? or is the Jelly Bean 4.1.1 cannot be rooted yet? I'm using the CF-Root by Chainfire. \
My sister's S3 is the Pebble Blue one, I rooted it when it was still on ICS 4.0.4 then when I updated it to JB 4.1.1, I just re-rooted it using the same method above, using ODIN and CF-Root by Chainfire and I succeeded in rooting it.
Is it required to root the S3 on ICS first then upgrade to JB? Please help me on this.
Thanks!

Somebody mentioned not auto-starting after flash and manually going into recovery to trigger installation.
Uncheck the auto restart box and flash, then turn phone off and go into recovery

What will I do after going into recovery? What files should I install in-order to root? Up until now I've been using CF-Root by Chainfire because it already has the SuperSU and CWM installed automatically.
Please advise. Thanks!

Use CF root it works on JB .

I've been using this "CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4" by Chainfire. Now it doesn't work on my new Black S3.

Do nothing, just manually boot into recovery, it should then kick in

[Q] Unroot Galaxy S2

Is there a way to unroot my phone without flashing stock roms via odin?
Id like to take my phone to service center i used triangle away to reset flash counter now only problem is to unroot my phone?
If you have SuperSU by Chainfire then simply click the app then settings. Scroll down to full unroot.
There are a number of root/unroot programs out there, that do not require you to reflash a firmware.
Here's one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
Or you could try mobile odin pro to flash an official firmware, from your phone.
Failing that Odin will be probably be your final option.

Rooting S2

Hi! I attempted to root my S2 via a method I found here whereby I flash an insecure kernel then root using S2 root. I followed the guide to the T and still my phone is only ''partially rooted'' according to rootchecker and no root apps could be granted su access.
I am running ICS 4.0.3, Baseband Version XXLPS.
What should I do next or should I accept defeat and leave this phone unrooted? What could I have done wrong?
Thanks in advance for reading.

flash the latest siyah kernel v3.4.1 either from ur recovery (use siyah .zip file) or thro Odin ( use siyah .tar file) and then see
Thanks Sun!
I have downloaded the Tar file. I assume what I do now is flash it onto my phone and retry S2 Root again?

If you flash Siyah you will be already rooted.
Ah, then perfect. Thank you!

Either I am an uber noob or there is something wrong!
I downloaded the Siyah 3.4.1.tar kernel from gokhanmoral and flashed via odin and the phone sat at the boot screen with the little yellow triangle on it. I left the phone on and running like that for 10minutes.
I flashed my insecure kernel back on from last time (the one I used when trying to root using s2root) and it is fine again.
Anywho I am back to square one! -.-

ok buddy follow this steps to reroot ur phone in a proper manner.
1) Dwnld the official ICS firmware(4.0.3) and flash thro odin
link Here
2) after that please dwnld the Matching Cf- root kernel and flash thro' ODIN
link Here
ur phone will be rooted properly and should wrk fine
ps- read the OP of both the threads carefully and follow the instructions over there to root ur phone successfully
If you only need proper root, no custom or insecure kernels and no yellow triangle, look at the guide in my signature. Worth the try

[Q] Root failed. please help

Hi all,
i am using sgs2 ics 4.0.3. I tried to root my phone using Odin and CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.tar file. But it failed. I tried again but result was same. I have xwlp7 kernel version and latest Samsung kies installed in my computer. Can anyone explain what could be the reason? And what should i do to root my phone. Please help.
You could try flashing a custom kernel like siyah or dorimanx or use this method:

hi Haxtreme, the alternative method you suggested, didn't work. But flashing siyah kernel did it. Thanks to you. But suggest me what is the next step after rooting my phone. i have taken a back up of rom using cwm. i am a new root user.
Next step should be efs backup.
The next step!
You got root and CWM!
The next step!
Install custom ROMszZ
The next step!
Install custom kernels!
The next step!
Overclock/underclock! As you desire!
Backup apps with titanium backup!
Backup using nandroid!

If u wish to start something w/ odin (just use odin3 v1.85 for s2) then first time u must do is uninstalling kies as it's messed over both..
Then If u have stock rom zip, start flashing it again by ticking one packages & tick & browse pda to matched zip stock. Stay away from another option in odin then. If it's successful, mean ur phone had a full wipe reset to stock factory (that's why u need backup like TiB).
At this point I think u can root by rahmat3 methods without any issues if u run it carefully as his per. No worries..

[Q] Official ROM update - info

Hello everybody,
my gt-i9100 will receive (short-run hopefully) the update to jelly bean but i have a couple of questions to avoid trouble.
At this time i have ics 4.0.3 official with root and modified recovery (not CWM). I have some root apps installed as "system app" like Android Lost, xposed framework and xposed tweakbox. I know the update will erase all my data (full update not value pack) but there will be problems installing this update with these root apps pre isntalled?
Thanks to all :cyclops:
It should cause any problems as the rom will erase all user apps and root.
What method are you planning to use to upgrade.
Kies or doing yourself through Odin.
As a precaution you could do a factoery reset before connecting to kies or flashing with odin. That way there will be no problems with stray aps.
i think i will use kies.
so i will not have issues having a custom recovery?
after upadte i must root again the device, right? if yes wich root use?

Rooting difference from S2 to S3

So my S2 died the other day and I went to buy a i9300. Now I've been searching about S3 rooting and I've found conflicting info on this.
So when I first rooted my old S2 I did it with a temporary CWM that disapeared ofter reboot stayed in stock with stock kernel and kies was able to update my firmwsre without deleting root. I actualy updated from 2.3.5 to ICS via kies without removing root or loosing it after.
I was wondering if the same could be done with the i9300 I want to remain stock for now and don't want to replace stock recovery with CWM. Is there a temporary CWM for S3 so I can push the SU binary to system part without flashing anything over stock?

Thats why i opened a new thread to see if someone had some new info on it.

Use CF Auto Root from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957273 Download Odin and the CF auto root for your phone all instructions are on this thread
You can still update via Kies as long as everything is kept stock even though its rooted but you wont get any OTA updates that wont work
