When I turn on my phone it goes to the virgin mobile start up screen then to the android screen for awhile then the screen goes black. The screen is back lit and the hardware button lights are on.
My phone is rooted using gingerbreak 2.0 I am using link2sd and I am running the stock rom.
I was installed some apps and the installation was hung up so I canceled and retried it a few times it still didn't work so I gave up. Then I was looking at app on the market and tried downloading one to my phone and it also got hung up then I did a manual reboot and my phone started getting stuck at the black screen.
If at all possible I would like to save my settings and apps which are on my phone.
Updates
I am able to boot into custom recovery.
restore the back up that u made before the phone started hanging...
Lets hope a noob has made a backup, anytime you flash do a nand backup. If your talking about the blackscreen bug, there is recent development with fserves v15 and goldenleaf kernels and there is also zacks Venice.v3.4 that fixes the BS lag. I'm using zacks to test and battery life is great

I installed Indirect's method to gain root access and now the N button on my tablet won't work. I tried to post on the development board but since this is my first post it wouldn't let me. Any insight into how to get it to work or why it stopped working?

when your NT boots up there will be a black screen with the n logo. right after that black screen disappears, hold the power and n button at the same time until the NT shuts off. repeat 8-10 times and you will be greeted with a factory software reset screen.
at that point, the NT will be booting into it's own recovery software. once that process is complete, you will be starting off with a fresh NT, assuming your original software was 1.4.0, otherwise it will be 1.4.1
hope this helps!
Do a factory reset. I had the same problem - N button stopped working. Password protection stopped working also. Only help was a factory reset. At the time, I didn't have home catcher installed - still don't.

Let me think about this... N button doesn't work... Hmmm, hold down the N button... but, the N...
If the n button has failed in that regard, no amount of resets will repair it. That's a hardware failure and you would need to return the unit.
Try it. The n button may just not be working as expected from software.

Today my GSII (CM 7.2) froze up and rebooted, which has happened several times before without any problem. Except this time when it came back up, instead of taking me to the lock screen it went straight to the home screen and showed me force close messages for practically every app I own.
ex:
com.android.phone
com.android.deskclock
com.android.email
com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
com.google.process.gapps
com.android.vending
com.google.android.youtube
com.google.android.gm
com.swype.android.inputmethod
android.process.acore
android.process.media
-those were just the ones I could see before more started popping up
Once I am able to dismiss all of them the screen goes black except for the status bar and then the screen turns off complete with the CRT transition.
It seems like all of the force closes are related to apps that create a background process when the device boots.
My problem is that i can't get the reboot menu to come up so I can't get it to boot into recovery anymore; I was able once and cleared the cache, devalik cache and battery stats but none of that helped at all, It just made the boot a little longer.
Any help would be appreciated greatly.
Hold power button + volume up + volume down at the same time - after the initial boot splash screen flashes twice it will boot you into recovery mode, just hold all three buttons down until recovery comes up.

After you do that, try a factory reset, or data wipe. That should fix the issue...

This just happened to me as well. It was working fine 6 hours before and after I woke up everything force closes even after cache/dalvik wipe and reflash of the ROM and GApps. Although I hadn't tried the factory wipe before I screwed it up even more.
Anyone know what causes these mass force closures? Can it be prevented?
OK. So I flashed to the JB rome from Cyno. 10 ROM. Security screen and power button working. Flashed back to Stock ROM and security and power button not working again. Flashed BLACKSTAR X ROM and security and power button still not working. Flashed back to JB and everything working again.. Anyone have any idea what would cause this?
So I haven't got any responses to this issue so I will ask another question. Is there any way to reset the security settings on the phone? Is there an apk file that can be flashed or some other way to reset them to default?
I have searched the forums and have even called Samsung. My power button and lock screen have both quit working correctly. The power button used to give me an option to either power off, reboot, airplane mode etc. but now after holding it down it just shuts the phone down without presenting me with the menu. My lock screen also does not work anymore.. I cannot lock my phone. Any help would be appreciated.. I have also done Google searches with not luck.. I have found this problem with other devices other than the note. I have also factory reset from within the system and at the recovery mode. When this happen I was on stock rooted ROM.
Me to Donald. I still have not figured it out. I went back to stock through Kies and the problem is still there. The only way I can get my lock screen and power button to work correctly is to flash a custom ROM. I cannot believe we are the only 2 having this problem. LOL
I am having the same exact problem and I cannot figure it out

Dear all,
I am so disappointed that my AT&T HTC One is not working right now.
It was my first time doing rooting and flashing a ROM, and I thought it would be as easy as doing jailbreak on iPhone.
For some reason, I just did not backup my phone.
Here is what happened:
1. I went to HTC official site to get my phone rooted, and it went well, I assume.
2. Then I found out that titanium backup told me my device was not rooted properly.
3. I was too confused to figure out what I should do, so I went for a Chinese software.
It says that I can be rooted and unlocked within one click.
4. So I used the software and it worked.
5. I realized my phone was still s-on, and someone commented that flashing some ROM would make it s-off.
6. I went for this "one click" software again... and it destroyed everything...
7. In the beginning, my phone would stop at the One logo. Then, I used boot starter or whatever it called to install recovery?
8. In the end, the phone won't boot. It shows the HTC logo and becomes black screen.
9. My computer cannot detect my phone as well. Yes, I have tried every option in boot menu.
What can I do right now?
Please? Anyone?
Thank you all...
Can you boot into the boot loader menu?
With phone powered off hold down the power button and volume down button at the same time, phone should load a menu with a mostly white screen and different rows of text.
If you can get a picture of the info on that screen it would be helpful.
