[Q] Rooting Galaxy S II on 4.0.4 XXLQ6? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I recently discovered CyanogenMod, and decided that I might like to install it on my Galaxy S II - However, I am very new to rooting and installing these things, and I don't even know if it's possible.
Can someone give me a step-by-step guide on how to do this?
Thanks in advance
Riku

Get your pc setup to use Odin. Then you can flash siyah-s2-v4.1.5.tar directly.....which gives you root/cwm and safe kernel.
Then backup efs folder and make nand backup.
Then visit the rom thread you like and follow instructions.
Or you can root using recovery method in my sig and flash the .zip version of siyah.

Rooting. Same method for every firmware?

Hi
This is probably the noobiest question.. I am new to the android scene and am clueless. My GS2 comes in today, so excited!!
So I will root it when i get it. Just wondering, is the rooting method the same for every firmware version or does it change as new firmwares come out?
And can someone PLEASE link me to a detailed root guide for the GS2. Keep i mind i am new to the android scene.
Thanks in advance guys!!
As to date, rooting works the same. You flash a pre-rooted rom, or only a rooted kernel. Until Samsung would suddenly lock their bootloaders nothing will change. Luckily Samsung likes the Android community, so they'll keep it easy for us to root.
Ok. So every time i upgrade to a new firmware.. I just use the same root guide and it will work.?
Can you point me to a detailed step by step GS2 rooting guide please?
Thanks for your help
The most easiest way would be to pick the CF-Root kernel matching your firmware/ROM from here:

And just flash that - done.
The kernel takes care of pretty much everything.
Seems complex.. but i will give it a try.

[Q] How do I root my Samsung Galaxy S II running kernelversion XWKJ3?

Hello everybody,
I got myself my very first Android phone yesterday, and I'm really glad with all of it's features, but I'd like to root it, the problem is is that it's running on kernelversion XWKJ3 and I can't find any thread, post, video, etc about if it actually IS possible to root the phone on this kernel, because according to some videos I need a speciffic kernel to root the phone, and I just can't find any, and I'm out of ideas. I don't know if it doesn't matter what kernel you need, or anything, and I can't seem to find it either.
Thanks already for just taking your time to read this,

Everything you need to know about rooting is here.
Basically everything you need to do to get root, is to flash a kernel, that has root enabled
It's in the 7th post of this thread.

[Q] Rooting Samsung Galaxy S II

Hello.
I need access to a file, but on several sites on google - all say that i need to root...
So i want to root my phone, but still keep the "official" android (dont want CyanogenMod etc.)
But im really insecure on how to root my phone - and how risky is it?
Can you please provide me with a guide (with pictures please) on how to root it.
PS: Can i still update my android, if i root the phone?
Will all the data on the phone be deleted? like reinstalling windows....

You should have posted in galaxy s2 section but:
You can keep stock android, just follow this link to root your S2 and it will be fine. There is also video tutorial in the link
You won't be able to update your phone with Software Update but you can always find the latest firmware for S2 from SamFirmware
The sam firmware website is where you can find all the stock firmware for the S2
Your files will be fine such as music pictures etc they will not be wiped and it's not risky to root your phone with the link above
If you have any other questions just ask

Kernel?
Hey.
What is the kernel doing? is that another rom or so? :S
Also heard alot of rumors about the Odin - that is was unstable and such, can you confirm that?

Root+Recovery+Flash

Hi guys.
I just rooted the s2 international.
Can someone give the links to tutorials of how to Root properly the s2 and install a stable (can be non touch) recovery and how to flash Roms WITHOUT Odin PLEASE!!! I've been searching for hours and i only get old tutorial.
I'm on 4.1.2
Thank you a lot!!!

Philz kernel will root and give cwm recovery and any ROM has way of how to flash. Follow them and you can go wrong.

[Q] Rooting i717m galaxy note with rogers wireles Canada

i have recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Note I717m running android 4.1.2
i have looked everywhere trying to find a way to root it but i can't find a thread or site (via google) that would explain to me exactly what i need to do to root my Note specifically. I am a beginner at rooting but i have rooted my samsung galaxy s3 (only because the rooting sites were abundant and very easy to understand)
All i need is to know if there is a way to root such an old phone running the latest software, and if there is i need to know how.
thank you
Get latest twrp .tar from og dev section to use with Odin.
Uncheck auto reboot in Odin, flash recovery, and since you have the Canadian version there is an extra step as there is a script in place to overwrite a custom recovery if you boot directly into the os,
So, right after the Odin flash, button combo into recovery and factory reset, then boot into android.
Now reboot into recovery and when you go to boot again from there it should see that you're not rooted and ask if you'd like to do so.
Thank you for your quick reply!
I however dont know what you mean by twrp.tar and where i can find it
I would need links to sites and a guideline if possible because when i rooted my s3 it was one step after the other i didn't really understand all of it and it was a long time ago
Thanks again, hope I'm not asking for too much here I'm new to this forum
Its in the development section for the i717. Go to TRWP recovery. Click the link to the site and MAKE SURE ITS FOR THE I717. Download and do what stud said.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
it worked!
thanks alot!
