do jellybean roms for S2 have "project butter" fully implemented ? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

About two months ago I tried a Jellybean ROM for my S2. The speed wasn't something, and I was told the reason is project butter is disabled for S2 roms, because of lack of hardware support. I was told that project butter will only be fully supported for the S2, once official jellybean rom be released by samsung, only then hardware acceleration will be fully supported.
What is the status currently with project butter and jellybean roms for the S2 ? I saw that some of the roms claim hardware support (they call it "HW composer") but some people say this is still only very partial support, and those ROMs are still not getting the full project butter experience...
Anyone has definite answer for this subject ?

NO. for now no custom JB roms of s2 has 'project butter' fully adopted

"Project Butter" will work when Samsung will release Android 4.1.2. They'll do it in about 2-3 weeks, I think.

What are you talking about?
Samsung has released no source code other than I9100 kernel sources, which are basically useless on Hummingbird-based devices.
Nexus S source code is more applicable and has been out for ages - but getting that to support the G70 is a lot of work, more work than it's worth to be honest. I haven't been particularly impressed with ICS so far. It's not awful - but it's not the major improvement over Gingerbread that GB was over Froyo.

Well, technical know-hows aside, I would like to comment on the ICS Vs GB thing. I loved using GB but since moving over to ICS on my Cappy and HP Touchpads, there is no comparison on the polish the ICS brings to these devices. Granted ICS did not bring anything earth shattering to the Android OS game, but the latest Google has to offer seems just right for my devices. GB just felt still being worked on but... ICS has more thoughtful features... simple things as the way gallery presents the photos, just seem right. Of course, some, if not most, would be differences in personal taste, but for me, I am happy with ICS and can't wait for all my devices to be upgraded to them.
Now, having said that... I certainly appreciate all the hard work by all the devs. I have no doubt, for a moment, that it's an aweful amount of work... For that... I Thank you.
@Entropy - That is kind of my gut feeling without having spent much time with ICS.
Is it fair to say the ICS is much more about glitter than new functional features or power?

Yeah I think ICS was meant to be more user friendly. Less technically overbearing to the standard end user.

Awh dammit nevermind, i misread, it wasnt the full source it was just the ics kernel source

[Q] Kernel Sources?

A few days ago samsung started rolling out ICS for the galaxys s II.
But where are the kernel sources?
It looks like that samsung is actually performing very bad if it comes to android.
- canceled rollout for 2.3.6 because of bugs
- non existent user experience on their ics roms (they really killed ics fully with touchwiz)
- only one device received a ics update yet, the other 1000000 are still waiting (that’s what happens if you flood the market with 100000 different variants)
- slow at releasing sources
- zero community support
- late on quadcore phone

Does it mean, there are still no Kernel Sources like it is spread here in this forum?

[Q] CM10 final for "most" SG3

Hey guys,
seen this post right :
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...a-android-4-2-aosp-released-xda-developer-tv/
So I went to the http://get.cm/?device=&type=stable link and tried to find the international SG3 CM10 and i couldn't find it? is it possible to flash one of the others? will it fit ?
if not, what is so different that they couldn't release it for the intl version ? :-/
First, you can not use cm10 for US SGS3 on intl SGS3!
No here is why you do not have final CM10 on intl SGS3:
-cyanogen team need hardware source code from Samsung to make a fully working CM10 for intl SGS3
BUT
-Samsung did not release it
-dev ask for it
-Samsung said "yes" but does not seem to release usefull stuff for now (they said "end of 2012" so we still have little hope)
Right...

Well thanks for that info, never knew the situation was casued by Samsung, it's a real shame, CM is such a great operating system that it doesn't have a substitute in my opinion in any spect and i've tested many.
Today I even flashed the original UK 4.2 Jelly bean just to experience what it's like and it was disappointing compared to my CM9, Sammobile are falling behind light years from the CM developers, How could this be ? aren't there real engineers compared to CM developers who are supposed to be amateurs (very proffesional ones) whom prove to be more innovative and proffesional.
I'm gonna flash back to my CM9 stable version, there's nothing better yet, looking forward to CM10 (hopefully it'll be here soon)
Cheers !

Cyanogenmod 10.1.0 Comes to Galaxy Ace

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is already out on the Galaxy Nexus, but other phone are still waiting for manufacturers to do the work and update their handsets to the newest version of Android. What’s worse is that some handset will never officially get updated to Jelly Bean.
If you want to change that, you should be on XDA Developers where all the development happens and now the Samsung Galaxy Ace and Gio, some of the most affordable low-end Androids, got the CyanogenMod 10 ports.
CyanogenMod 10 is the Jelly Bean based version of the custom ROM. If you want to flash it, just check out the links below where you’ll find all the detailed information you need.
Interestingly, the Ace and Gio were never included in Samsung’s plans for the update to even ICS as they run on a pretty dated ARMv6 processors. Now, a very important disclaimer is that those ports are not yet final - they are alpha versions that are still not ready for prime time. You can get on and help the developer and also get a taste of what’s to come with them though.
What's the point of this? Posting an ad for XDA forums on XDA forums kinda defeats the purpose, no?

[Q] Differences between AOPS and Samsung based ROMs

I have been using CM based ROMs for a year, but now I am curious about the Samsung based ROMs (Rooted, deodexed, without bloatware and such) I have read the FAQ thread, but it does not offer me a proper explanation about the differences between CM and Samsung. Only that Samsung ROMs are "smoother". So I am asking in this thread for a wider explanation and to solve some questions I have:
-Why are there more Samsung ROMs than AOSP? Sure that the CM ROMs get more updated, and that people here love open sourcing, but I am curious about this fact.
-Are AOSP ROMs more suited for a "liberated" device? Samsung has closed the hardware sources of the GS3, and thats why the AOSP devs can not release a full working AOSP ROM. At least until Samsung decides to release the sources...
-Also, the Samsung based development is depending on the official updates provided by Samsung right? So the day Samsung drops the service, should we use AOSP instead?
-What is the cuality of a Samsung based ROM? Its much better that the official Touchwiz ROM?
-Its true that the Samsung ROMs have a much better sound than the CM ROMs, or it is vice versa? I am quite an audiophile, so this point interests me.
Lastly, I would like that you could solve me a question. One day, I changed from a CM10.1 ROM to a custom 4.1.2. When I did this, I could not use the Google Backup on my apps, and, for example, I could not recover the Whatsapp conversations. Moreover, I could not access to the SD card through the File Explorer in that ROM. So, is this a common compatibility problem between AOPS and Touchwiz or it is more of a ROM issue?

They're easy to create, plenty of updated versions from samsung and a lot of people prefer them

Question doesn't make sense. IMHO, there are more useful and configurable settings in aosp. Downfall of closed sources are camera quality and possibly battery life

Yes we need rom bases and kernel source code from samsung. Once samsung drop kernel source for the s3, aosp development will slow down considerably

What? If you mean quality,.its much the same with some tweaks to enhance performance, user experience etc. If you're rooted and not using a samsung based custom rom, you're missing out

Apparently but I've not noticed a difference. I listen to a lot of music and am completely satisfied. That said, if there is a difference - it would be understandable

Top and bottom is its users choice . With a nandroid it takes a short time to test .
Personally i cannot stand AOKP/AOSP .
Sound you have got to give this a try IRS open up a whole new world of sound outputs .
