Well, I tried to post my question in Galaxy Note thread. But it seems that the Problem is similar for all Android devices. So, if you don't mind I'post it here. No solution found so far.
I've got the screenlock password on my Galaxy Note. It's in English layout (it was originally entered in Swipe keyboard). Then I've changed the Settings to Samsung keyboard and French layout (same latin letters) and switched off the screen. Now my pass is not working as I cannot change layout to English (the settings button on keyboard is grey). So would you recommend any solution as I don't want to wipe all the data. Is it possible to change layout to original English or reset password somehow? Thanks a lot in advance.

Nope. After 30 tries there were no prompt for google account. This thing works in case of secret drawing combination. But I used letters.
Just in case - here's my Galaxy Note thread link

I don't know if it'll help, but what I do when I forgot my pattern unlock is delete the gesture.key file in /data/system/ from recovery.
I'm guessing deleting the password.key in the same folder will disable the password lock, and you can unlock it with anything.

I opened it using ADB - \data folder is empty.
I just cannot get it - i'm an official user, my phone is registered, I do know the password and my gmail account details but I cannot get through to my data. That's really incredible that such giants as Google and Samsung made Android and Galaxy Note in a way that I CANNOT change the language settings. That's rediculous. I spend a couple of minutes to change password and 2 days trying to get my data back - why???
With no solution until tomorrow I will wipe Galaxy Note and sell the f... device to get myself iPhone or Nokia or anything that does not have that android on it. I'm starting to hate it really.
After 5 incorrect tries, there should be an option "Forgot Password?" Tap on that and you can enter your gmail info. It doesn't pop up on its own
Btw how will getting an iphone help? Its not like any phone will let you mess with settings while the phone is locked...

Since it's locked with a code, this is not the case. It goes on continuously and simply tells you how many times you have entered the code incorrectly (not sure when/if this ends).

My pass (layout) problem could not have happened on iPhone. There should always be some protection against such user activities that could block his access to data. Moreover, I haven't really changed the layout - I've just selected different software keyboard (Samsung Standard instead of Swipe). And as my phone was in French - so French layout was default in Samsung Standard Settings.

In order for the aroma filemanager to mount the /data folder you have to go to its settings and select the "automount all devices on start" . Then reflash and you are done.

Hi,
I tried to change DPI through LCD density modder app to dpi 226 in my sgs2.
After that the phone dont boot-up and got stuck at yellow triangle screen
I can go to CMW mode but dnt have any backup in that.i flashed Cf root again to check if that work, but nothing happen
NOTE: it got bricked because of change in DPI.not because of flashing wrong kernel so Flashing kernel wont help me
What to do,please help me
Can you mount USB in CWM to change the kernel ?
Because some kernels, like Siyah (I THINK ! I don't use Siyah...) purpose to clear some folder including DPI section...
So you can try to take one of this kernels, flash one, and find this option...
I'm not sure, just a supposition

You should be able to connect to your computer in CWM recovery mode, and edit the dpi setting in your build.prop file.
failing that, worst case scenario, just copy a new rom to ya sd and flash it in cwm, a custom one
seriously, you got bitten my friend, next time, do a nandroid backup and backup ya efs folder, double protection, coz seriously if ya gonna mess with stuff like the build.prop then ya need a backup plan.
If you really want to alter the dpi, then check the lcd density changers on google play, theres a few, but i know a couple of them let you test the dpi out first to see if it works on ya phone, if it doesnt it reverts back.

As above;
1. Download & instal Windows PC programs "Android Commander" and "NotePad++ "(not NotePad)
2. Boot into CWM Recovery
3. Connect to PC USB & allow/edit for any drivers to instal
4. Run Android Commander
5. Navigate to system/build.prop & copy to PC & edit ro.sf.lcd_density=240 with NotePad++. Check there are no entries added by the app (delete them if so) Save and exit
6. Replace build.prop with edited version
7. Exit program, connect USB and reboot
8. All else fails, wipe cache/Dalvik and reflash ROM.
Hope this helps
Edit: don't forget to remove/delete the LCD Modder app from data/app with Android Commander before rebooting, otherwise it may force your previous density changes and back to square one.
You can also extract the build.prop from your ROM download zip with 7Zip and use above method to replace it.

Thank you all for your help
when i flashed CF-ROOT,i didn't work,but when i flashed STOCK KERNEL,it worked
i saw the odin log, stock rom has factory image file which correct the DPI.i think so
Thanks for giving your precious time
I found this thread through google, so thought i might post my experiences for the next person that finds this the same way, maybe some of it will be relevant...
So i did the same thing with my galaxy Note: changed DPI with LCD density modder app, restarted and the phone wouldn't get past the white samsung screen.
I followed UpInTheAir's guide to step 7, but phone still wouldn't start. I hadn't made a backup of the EFS folder so i was getting pretty scared at this point as loading a new rom will wipe this folder and render the phone useless (as far as i understand)
I was reading elsewhere that the permissions need to be set to rw-r--r-- on the build.prop file, so i tried doing this with Android Commander with the phone in CWM recovery. Android Commander was spazzing out, error message when the program opens, constant "loading" bar going, but i just ignored all that. I went to /system/build.prop properties and tried to set the permissions to rw-r--r-- but after accepting that and going to properties again it hadn't updated the permissions.
I've never flashed a ROM before, or changed kernel, but i decided this might be a good time to learn.
I loaded franco.Kernel-r5 for galaxy Note (sorry if this is irrelevant in an S-II forum) but loading into CWM that is built into this kernel (i think it was a different version than i was using before) i was then able to update the permissions with Android Commander(tho it was still spazing out).
Restarted and BOOM she loaded. Understandably i was thanking God big time at that point
anyway, hopefully something in this mess of a post might come in useful to somebody , thanks for the good info UpInTheAir!
Hello, I had the same problem and had to re-flash the firmware.
I've seen on dpi changers comments on market that A LOT OF PEOPLE get the softbrick.
i want to change my dpi.
how am i supposed to do it ?
I can't believe my phone can't stand changing DPI.
Ive changed mine a few times by altering the build prop file but the icons were never centered properly. Eveything was smaller but moved towards top left of the screen. Since then i used Density Modder pro with no issues.

First of all you will get better answers if you asked in your device's relevant thread, TouchWiz Home usually doesn't take too well to dpi changes, you need to install a custom launcher app like apex or Nova, try installing one via adb, and then reboot and select your custom launcher as default when the system prompts you to select a launcher.

Try booting your device into safe mode, it should boot without loading the app that you installed to modify dpi. If you successfully boot into safe mode, you can uninstall the app then reboot.

I'm making this guide for anyone whose purchased a Korean Galaxy Note and have had a hell of a time getting it to work properly.
In Canada, the Note will only work with Rogers or Fido due to frequency and compatibility issues. Even other networks that support the Note will not work with a Korean Galaxy Note and flashing the telus modems found in other threads has not worked for me, causing the phone to get stuck in a restart loop.
First, upgrading to ICS:
Download the UF13 stock E160L firmware from this website:
http://pspmaster.tistory.com/180
For those with SHV-E160 S and K phones, stock firmwares can also be found on this website with a bit of searching
Flashing:
Put the Korean Note into download mode by holding down the volume down button + home button + power button
- The Note will then display a tonne of Korean text on-screen, press the volume up button to actually enter the download mode
Then run Odin in administrator mode (not really sure if it makes a difference but might as well), make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only checked items, click the PDA button and select the firmware file
Then click start and wait till the phone reboots, the loading screen will have a pink U+ logo and it may take some time.
Once it has booted, insert your microSIM card (yeah for some reason it uses a microSIM, other models don't seem to, wtf Korea?) and let it connect to the network. Once it connects you're good.
Rooting:
(courtesy of locomaniac, his thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671987)
Download these 4 files:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u0rz0tuioj3irhz/cwm-160l-update.zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ds3sp7bulu54ckg/samsungE160recovery.tar
https://www.dropbox.com/s/lwuadwg4bx7wjro/Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/si43ikqpcdbzpod/Tegrak.rec.tar
Put the cwm-update160l-update.zip and the Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip onto your external SD card
Then shut off the phone and put it into download mode once again (vol down + home + power)
Once it's in download mode, flash the Tegrak.rec.tar in the same fashion as you did with the UF13 stock ROM, it will overwrite the recovery partition of your phone and your phone will then reset
Power down the phone once again and get it back into download mode, this time you'll flash the samsungE160recovery.tar which will install Clockworkmod Recovery into the recovery partition (not sure why you need the Tegrak recovery as well other than its ability to root the phone but do it anyways)
- Please note, if you only want root and not Clockworkmod Recovery which in my opinion, is stupid, do not flash the samsungE160recovery.tar, just go to http://pspmaster.tistory.com/181 and download the two files that correspond to your model, it does indeed have the E160S and E160K kernels as well. Copy the .zip file into your external SD card, then Flash the .tar file using ODIN then boot into recovery by holding the volume up + volume down + power button until the samsung logo appears at which point you'll have to release the buttons. It will boot into Tegrak recovery, select install from .zip, select the .zip file you downloaded and then restart the phone. Once restarted, you'll have to download Tegrak from the Google play store and open the app and select the root my phone option at which point your phone should have root access. Then download superuser from the Google play store and bam you're golden.
For those of you who want CWM Recovery, once the ODIN flash of samsungE160recovery.tar is done, it will reboot. Shut down the phone, then hold down the volume up and volume down buttons with the power button, let go of them all once the samsung logo appears to boot the phone into recovery mode. It will now be CWM Recovery rather than the Tegrak recovery, select install from zip and select cwm-160l-update.zip and install it. Once installed, you will need to select the reboot recovery option (might be under advanced menu, not sure). Or just power down the phone and reboot into recovery. Once it's in, you'll notice that CWM Recovery has been updated, but the menu options still look the same. Familiarity is good. Now choose install from zip and select the Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip file and install that.
Once you're done, reboot the phone and you will now have root access.
Fixing the SMS system:
(instructions courtesy of the crazy Chinese developers over at koxda http://koxda.com/thread-14201-1-1.html)
For some reason, Korea has a different messaging system than anywhere else in the world causing messages to send properly only if you're using a third party app like goSMS, and labeling everything you receive as from an unknown number. Obviously, this is ridiculous, so to fix that, you'll need the root access you just obtained as well as Root Explorer (File Manager), an app you can purchase off Google play or pirate with Mobilism. It's a wonderful app that will let you do anything you want to any file you want.
You'll also need mms.apk which is basically the international version of the messaging system from here:
http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/360753/Mms-apk.html
Copy this file to your SD Card
Now you'll want to open Root Explorer, and open the "system" folder then the "app" folder. Here, find 6 files that begin with SEC-MMS and delete them, you may have to press the mount r/w button at the top to get read write permission but do so and you'll be able to delete the files. Then, copy the mms.apk using root explorer from your external SD card into the system/app folder.
Once you're done, close everything and restart your phone.
Once it restarts, you'll notice that Android will attempt to upgrade something, that something is basically the phone installing the mms.apk for you and it will now appear in the applications list. Open the mms.apk, press the menu touch key and go to settings. Here, you need to change the text input method to unicode and then set the message centre number to +15149931123 for Fido, or +17057969300 for Rogers (can also try +17057969500). Make sure to type in that plus sign or it will not work properly.
*Note the messaging program may crash occasionally, keep trying and it should work, once you're done you'll be replacing the normal messaging system which has become unstable with something else.
That something else is the Handcent SMS app which you can download off Google play for free. Install it, then open the app, go to settings, application settings and press the Default Messaging application button, select All (SMS&MMS). Then press back, click notification settings and uncheck the Enable popup option.
AAAANNND YOU'RE DONE
If you have other Korean Note specific problems like the lack of secret menu options to repair your touch keys (which I had, goddamn you Samsung), send me a pm and I'll make another thread on how to fix it, it involves flashing temporary firmware that I really don't have the bandwidth to upload at the moment.

I'd suggest flashing the tegrak recovery file for the E160S followed by the samsung160recovery, which should give you CWM at which point you can update CWM and root the phone. However, I have no idea if it'll work, so make sure to have a stock ROM on hand in case things go south for you.

Thanks man! Works for my E160K. Just one comment - looks like also you should have valid MSISDN on your SIM card in order to have it working.
You can check is it so or not in "Settings"=>"Phone Identity" - "Phone number" filed should show your actual nuber with "+" and all prefixes. If it's says "unknown" (and it's easily can) - you should write a correct number first on SIM card using "My phone number" application from market (little chance to work, btw), or other phone (Android-based device with CyanogenMod 7.x, Iphone or lots of SE phones can help).

Excellent point, I remember reading this on the Koxda forum, but I didn't bump into this particular problem myself. For my phone number, the information was under settings --> about phone --> status
I remember reading that the easiest fix was actually borrowing an iphone and with its prevalence these days, it should be easy to find someone who'll lend it for a few minutes. Also, since the e160L has a microsim, it should fit into an iphone 4 without any hassle
good job... man

Thanks to the OP, I replaced the MMS app on my E160L (YAY!).
OK, I found an iPhone that let me 'write' my phone number to the SIM card. It's all done. BUT I can't send an sms with the newly installed stock MMS.apk. Actually, seems like I can send short messages: 70 characters and under using stock but anything longer fails. This seems to have to do with the original Korean models not being able to send anything more than 70 or 80 characters?
The caller ID issue is resolved though. I set the SMSC via the settings as well as via the secret menu accessed via typing 319 712 358 and then the password 0821.
Handcent works for sending and receiving. But I'd also like the stock messing app to work too!

Well, according to the original poster in koxda this is the best we've got now. you can completely ignore your stock, and replace it with handcent making it the default app through its options.

160 characters
Is anyone able to send a SMS with more than 160 characters. For me, when it becomes ''2 messages'' (more than 160 characters) the message fails. Does this happen to everyone?

Excellent point, I remember reading this on the Koxda forum, but I didn't bump into this particular problem myself. For my phone number, the information was under settings --> about phone --> status
I remember reading that the easiest fix was actually borrowing an iphone and with its prevalence these days, it should be easy to find someone who'll lend it for a few minutes. Also, since the e160L has a microsim, it should fit into an iphone 4 without any hassle

It's an inherent issue with Korean versions of the Note. The only way to get around this is to use the Handcent app. :-(
Handcent
Yes, I know...
The thing is I'm using Handcent... And still can't send more than 160 characters with it... Always fail.

the best work around here is to grab both messaging.apk and mms.apk from the international version GNote. then replace the stock .apks in the \system\app\ folder. same thing i did with my su-660.
can anybody please post those two system apk's please? thanks.
[APP]MMS.apk from International Note N7000

Unfortunately, this 70 character limit is coded into the Korean operating system and I haven't found a way to get past it... yet. The Chinese appear to be cooking up a custom ROM that uses the American operating system as its base which could get around that SMS character limit, will update when I succeed in getting it to work on my phone.
Hey guys, I got the tablet yesterday to get rid of that "too many pattern attempts" screen. The owner of course doesn't remember the credentials to his google account, so he gave it to me to get rid of the lock, without hard-resetting if possible.
I have no idea what the Android version is; I can't get past the log in screen. I can't root it/delete that one small file responsible for all of this since ADB isn't enabled. The Android recovery seems to be the only option, but of course, I can't use unsigned zips like AROMA File Manager... or can I?
I'd like to know if I have any options besides resetting to factory settings from the recovery screen. And what does it delete? Only apps, their data and system settings or pretty much everything?

Try an update as it may removed the lock (although I think it will stay in place) Have a look at my stickied FAQ for how to and look at my signature for update zips.
Stifilz
Knowing how Android works, I would expect the update to either delete all the data or keep everything. I thought more of running something from the recovery, but I see how it may not be possible.

The update will keep all the files. You can ONLY install Sony signed zips anyway so this is the only hope. Or a recovery of the password for Google... Which you stated is a no go...

Downloaded the update from your thread (Polish version) and I can't seem to be able to open the zip... is it supposed to be like that? I'd see if I could modify it by any chance to delete/overwrite that one file.

It is encrypted and signed by Sony. You can decrypt it, modify it and re-sign it but IT WILL NOT WORK. We do not have SONY'S private key for sigining... Otherwise we could ad SU etc, this is not the case.

Weird, the device wasn't visible through adb devices...
Anyway, it doesn't matter much now since I tried updating to an older update (revision 1a? Sth like that) and it didn't fix the problem, so in the end I had to wipe data. I could probably experiment a bit if I didn't have to give back the tablet yesterday.
Just wipe the device via recovery, the key files are in /data/system so unless you have root and ADB then a wipe will have to do.
A wipe via recovery will not wipe the emulated internal or just external storage such as SD and USB.

I installed the Google dialler after flashing the Google Dialler Support (Framework) (.zip), made it the default dialler (with all permissions) and disabled the stock Dialler through recovery but whenever I make or receive a call, both dialler's {incallui}s show simultaneously, sometime the stock in front and sometimes the Google one and both their notifications also showing. I wanted to disable the stock incallui but can't find it in the priv-app directory(in recovery). Does anyone know how to disable the stock incallui? Any help would be much appreciated...thanks!!

If you're using TWRP, you'll have to mount system to access system files. The option to do this is in the main screen of TWRP: Mount>System. Then you can go to Advanced>File Manager and access system files.

I'm not looking for the dialler, I've already disabled that...I want to disable the stock incallui (the screen which appears when placing or receiving a call). Also, I don't remember the actual name but the dialler is not named phone.apk. Generally, the incallui is simply placed in an app called incallui.apk but weirdly, this phone doesn't have it making it really frustrating to deal with 2 call screens simultaneously.

This is not because of root. This is due to unlocked bootloader which, I'm guessing, triggers the developer mode for the device. This doesn't affect the functionality of the device so you don't have to worry!
Turns out, the incallui is bundled up with all of the telephony frameworks or whatever and deleting this makes the phone not detect the SIM and lose connectivity. If someone with some knowledge of code and how sh*t works could look at the apk and just remove the incallui part, I'd buy them a beer or two. I've posted the link to it below. Thanks!

I decided to go ahead and reset my LG sunrise as I want to do an experiment with multiple devices, but after doing this the keyboard refuses to show. It is installed, it shows as an option in settings, but it doesn't pop up when prompted

Try installing another keyboard and see if you can get one to show up.
Now, I know you can't type because of this but go to the play store and look in "top free" and there's bound to be one in there somewhere.

How would I do that?
Edit:
Decided to search and I'm thinking I should install through ADB, but if I do that will it install as a system app? Is there a way I can replace the stock keyboard or repair it with this?

Connect the device to a PC if you have one and put the APK on the phone, Use a file explorer and install it. If the device doesn't have a file explorer, Then grab one of those too.
If you really wanted too you could use ADB, You'll need root access though to get it in as a System app.

Ah so, after I install the keyboard I can't go through setup?
Are you stuck in the setup menus? Is that what's happening??
If so then you'd probably have to remove the current keyboard and ADB push a new one.
Have you tried restoring it again to see if it shows after?

Yes, I'm stuck there. I tried using a USB keyboard with otG to no avail, so it seems I'll have to push a new keyboard. How would I remove the old one?

With ADB you can easily remove it, However though, If your not rooted, Then I advise against this because you WILL NOT be able to push it or another app back without root.
