.thumbnails folder? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
When I use a root explorer I see a folder called ".thumbnails" on my internal sd. it has over a 3000 files in it. Can I delete it to make space? Is it a folder that keeps...euhm...thumbnails? :$

You can delete the contents I would leave the folder in place though.
If you want to do a general cleanup try out a program called SD maid from playstore.
It also has an xda thread that you might find helpful.

.android_secure folder questionnn

What is it? I notice theres a bunch of apps in there thats no longer in my phone..
I flash roms.. and dont really wipe off my ext(?)
Is it safe to remove the files inside the folder?
Thanks.

Android.secure is the folder where stock froyo android moves apps to the sd card by default. If you don't use the apps presently, you can safely remove the corresponding app files from the android.secure folder.
You can delete the files which you do not need from the folder. Just see the file name, you will know to which app it belongs. If you do not need that file, delete it.
thanks for the replies.. did just that and manange to free up more space. ^^

You can.

Unable to install apk. Low space

Hi, I was wanting to install an apk but during the installation part, it says that my device is out of space. But when I checked, I found out I had 11gb on my internal SD card! May I know what's the issue here? Thanks!!

.odex files are inside de .apk files.
Also, the apps can, as far as I know, either be installed on a 2GB application spesific partition on the phone, or on the external SD card.

Sorry can't jump to resolution without more info.
Is your phone rooted? Are you on stock or some custom ROM?
There's an app called diskusage that will let you know how much storage your apps are using.

Soulution storage bug
I had this problem to. An apk named directorybind.apk proved beeing a workaround. I now have much available space. There are some guides and info on this here on xda. I suggest you try it out but rather than "binding" your entire sdcard you could choose any file basically and have that file to be binded to your external sd. A tip is that it might seem a little twisted at first but once you get the syntax from directorybind you could apply a bind to any file or folder... Hope it helps.
Mate if u rooted install any of this 2 file manager -Root Ecplorer or ES File Explorer. I show u on pix how it look im use Root Explorer , whenu open it u wil see this then u find that u want .
1st pix 2nd pix and in 3rd u r in odex

JB 4.1.2 and External Card Issues

It appears that prior to the JB 4.1.2, the external sd card was mounted as
/sdcard/external_sd
After the update, it is now
/storage/extSdCard
Some of my apps disappeard because of this. And my TiBu could not locate the backup folder and I had to re-do it.
Is there a fix for this?
In the settings of TB you can search and choose the backup folder.

I just used TB as an example.
Other apps are the same. I'd hate to go each apps, one by one, just to change folder.
If I remount the folder, I'm sure it will dupe the files.
You can copy paste everything from old folder to new folder.

Downloads.. CWM /= file explorer.. Help

Here's my issue.
It seems my downloads are being saved to the only internal memory. Nothing is being saved to the sd card. Using root explorer I see a recently downloaded ROM zip ( in the download file).. and that zip only. I go into cwm recovery to the same download file and it's not there. Two previously downloaded files are there (different ROM and gapps) but not the most recently downloaded ROM.

CWM has install zip from internal or external. I use root explorer to move downloads from storage/sdcard0/downloads to root of sdcard1 which is external.

I'll try that and see if the file is then visible..
Edit:
Moved the file using root explorer from internal SD to external SD and it was then visible in cwm external..
Strange..
