They're also expected to decline over the next couple of years.
I hear that Troll company is also looking to ban some devices.
Gotta love karma.
I bet if a ban does happen, the ITC will pull its head out of its as$ and push for reform.
More than my dislike for Apple's litigation tactics, I hate the flawed international system when it comes to technology, software especially.

Well, it is happening. Look at their stock. They lost a lot. High point was around $700/share. Now they are in a steady decline and current share is 558. Also, it wiped out a lot of market cap. It was around $620 billion, now it's $524 billion. They are still most valuable company, but I am sure things will continue to decline for Apple.
Signs are there. iPad marketshare dropping vs Android tablets. They screamed off the top of their lungs that there will never be iPad mini, but they had to follow suit because Nexus 7, Kindle Fire, were taking a lot of marketshare. Google Play caught up to App Store in quantity of apps. iPhone 5 release only gave them 2-3% of marketshare, and mostly at expense of RIM/Microsoft.
Apple is no longer innovating. They are following others. Good read here: http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2012/10/apple-is-a-follower/. Apple Maps, the lackluster iOS 6, falling share price. I think Apple ran out of steam.

This is pretty much what's happening right now. Not to mention, with the iOS Maps problems, and the problems with the iPhone5 coming with scratches and what not, they're just getting sloppy. Not to mention, just to try and keep up with everyone, they finally made the screen larger, but people are getting bored with it. iOS is still the same thing it's always been. People want NEW things.
And there's more. Apparently SIII outsold iPhone 4S last quarter. Granted, some people may have been waiting for iPhone 5, but numbers are numbers.

apple is just seeing a slow in their astronimical growth. i think this is a good thing. i believe some of these set backs will force apple to going back to innovating instead of litigating.
Android will always be more innovative with strong competition.

I don't know, connector that turns all your expensive speaker docks and clock radios into junk overnight, and usb cable with a chip in it to (atempt, already failed) to make it impossible for anyone else to make even a stupid charge cable, turning a commodity item into a special and expensive accessory. Those are pretty big changes.

iPhone owners already can say nothing. Their cloud "innovation"... we've had that via Google for years. Siri... we've had that for a while too. Search the market for Jeannie (AKA Voice Actions). I put Voice Actions up against Siri the other day at lunch and Siri got literally every question borked. Voice Actions on Android did much better. We asked Siri "What are the nine planets". It said, "I found six planets... the closest is 2.2 miles from you." I hope not! We asked Voice Actions the same thing and it came up with a picture of the solar system plus a description of the planets. Other questions went similarly. The iPhone junkies at the table were REALLY impressed when I asked Voice Actions "Show me some boobies". Then I showed them the results and said, "Try THAT on your iPhone!"

Hrmm, I think part of it on anyone other than Apple's OS definitely has to do with Apple becoming what they advertised against. The breakout Apple commercial was that woman coming and throwing a sledgehammer at Big Brother - one way of doing things, one computer, one order.
They became that - they advertise artistic and non-conformist and people line up and say "I'm so different" as they purchase something they can't make a change to without jail breaking the OS.
Last I checked, if you want to develop for iOS you have to pay to play. I may be off on that as it has been a while since I checked.
Apple shooting lawsuits left and right for "stolen innovations" such as "slide to wake up" have not been engendering kindness.
The marketing and legal departments have been fueling the dislike, and posers who get phones for a status symbol.
There's a long and well documented lead in to the hate, and in the end it works extremely well to line various company's coffers.

And yet, they sell more and more phones everyday. I loathe the company itself. I like their products. Don't get me wrong, the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch are GREAT devices, but they're not Android. And they're not even close, IMO. I have an iPad issued to me from work. The only thing I use it for is to read, watch movies (that I get outside of iTunes), and listen to music (Pandora/Shoutcast/Music I download outside of iTunes).

I think there's also some sort inherent disconnect between camps.
Apple people think they have the greatest device because it looks pretty.
Android people think they have the greatest device because the hardware is faster and you can make it look pretty.
Apple people think that if you have to work to make your device look and perform awesome that it's you who is making it awesome, not the product. (IE you win Android fail)
Android people think that if you can't make it look and perform like you want then you're a moron or the phone is crap.
It's sort of like a broken down 57 Chevy. An Apple lover looks and sees rust and decay, and Android user sees potential - HTC didn't make Sense awesome, but I can.
It all gets worse when you have people on both sides who don't want to learn anything and believe their respective marketing departments.
Any interest in this or shall we keep debating Apples to Orang-uh hum! Droids?
my dislike for the company is in the fact they spout innovation yet they are always a year behind the rest. hell look windows 7 phone has 4g now where is it for the almighty iphone? They spout innovation on their new ios and android has already had it on of their phones for a year. and the masses to dumb to realize they are paying extra money for a phone that is at least a year behind the curve. And yet the iphone fan boys think their phone is the best then i ask what makes it better then i pull out my evo 3d and im like had that since.... and had that since..... their ignorance drives me up the wall

Well I see in a different way, sure iPhone 4s looks outdated because it doesn't have lte or WiMAX, in my experience lte is really nice too bad it has more lost signal then 3G and WiMAX is ok but man does it suck, I used 4G on my OG evo for a few months and stop using it , it just sucks I prefer 3G also in battery life 4G sucks at that right now, they need to come out with a new battery tech or wtv, I have an iPhone 4S, evo 3d, nexus s (tmobile) and my old 3GS and after playing with them I prefer both, i do prefer an iPad instead of android tablet but that might because of the apps, is nice to read books on my iPad or watch YouTube, and some apps for work , if android tablets would have a nice spreadsheets app and maybe some better apps ill probably go for it, but maybe another 6 months before that, the new asus table (quad core) looks nice but will see

If anyone started using siri other than apple, they will shut you down quicker than you can brag to your friends about it.

I got my EVO 4G LTE yesterday and I can see why Apple is worried.
Most apple fans I talk to say that Iphones feel more responsive and have better battery life. This phone feels very responsive and I've only charged my phone one time in the past 22 hours. If Apple doesn't step up and actually improve their product they will suffer the same fate as RIM.
Has it been announced what this third lawsuit is claiming?
What they are claiming is listed in the link below.
I also actually listed the 27 HTC devices in the complaint here.
http://www.androrev.com/2012/06/06/...dditional-complaint-against-htc-with-the-fcc/
It appears HTC has countered with a complaint of their own and we are back in the ring for another 12 rounds. This is insanity looks like the ATT One X date might be in Jeopardy.

I agree. They only reason why this has gotten out of hand is because Android has began to take the market over Apple. And the only way Apple knows how to fight back is to take out the competition, starting with the biggest fish first (HTC). Instead of innovating (which they're oh-so-good at), they'd rather keep making what they have and take out competition.

I've always predicted, even when the first iPhone came out, that at some point it'll fall. They have no strategy. All they do is patent ideas that were made by other companies that are used in mainstream phones. I've said it before, Apple is to the ITC as LeBron James is to the officials in the NBA.
Sadly, Apple has the money to keep throwing bogus lawsuits out......and see which ones will stick. All the patents claims are going to hit many device manufacturers this year, will waste a lot of money, and slow down some really great devices.
Apple doesn't want the competition.....

Oh how I wish they would go somewhere!! iSuck, but I pretend like I'm better than everyone else!
Apple has been lagging behind in the phone development for quite some time. Even when the 4 was released, there were Android phones with features way ahead of it. The fact of the matter is Apple is now the one playing catch-up and lots of their customers are looking for a new, more customizable experience. So if you can't beat em, sue the pants off of them.. and that's what Apple's tactic is currently.
As of right now, Android has, and will be top dog. And I have a big suspicion that the iPhone 5 will be dead in the water unless Apple has a couple tricks up their sleeve. One mainly being iOS itself. It NEEDS to evolve in order to stay competitive. With more and more of the current generation becoming increasingly tech savvy, Apple's reliance on "it just works" will become far less effective.
None the less, in the end, it hurts consumers and makes Apple look like a huge douche canoe. And I'm all for letting that huge douche canoe drop right off a huge waterfall.

Or they could simply add almost nothing but 2 year old technology to it and people would come out in droves... oh wait... they already did that with the 4S.
Anyone else notice that some of the phones in the claim are pretty old? If they were going to have this lawsuit they should have done it long ago... It seems mighty suspicious of Apple.

HTC has been really struggling lately, and now with OnLive costing them $40 million, things are definitely not looking good.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think we're going to start seeing the effects of all of this loss soon? I'm worried about new devices releasing, as well as updates being given to existing devices, if the company keeps falling like this.

Ouch, definitely doesn't sound good. Not sure if they will be able to stay in it or not...depending on how this whole Apple/Samsung thing turns out, they may be able to use it to their advantage, but it sounds like they've got some pretty big issues to deal with. I think I'm already pretty much resigned to getting whatever Samsung's offering is when I'm eligible for my next upgrade. I had a tough time choosing this time around anyway, so I figure I'll give them a shot (never owned a Samsung)...but it sounds like that may be the "only" option if things don't improve for HTC.

They're hurting, but I have high hopes that they come back even stronger. They need to make a few adjustments to the way they work, and it can make all the difference. For one, be as dev friendly as they used to be. Second, less device models as they made it seem like they were going to do. They need to cut as much variants out, and focus on keeping close to the same phone amongst different carriers. That's my opinion.

It's funny because you probably didn't even read the article.
They're making a profit, but they're still a shadow of their former glory. Their market share has plummeted and it isn't showing any signs of improving. Just because they're still pulling in money doesn't mean that everything is sunshine and rainbows for them.
HTC is still a profitable company, but with such relentless competition from Samsung and Apple, their numbers are dropping fast enough that banks are beginning to get very nervous. This could quite literally be the beginning of the end.

I don't think that HTC is going to go out of business. I'm hoping that they can come up with something that can stabilize them a bit. In my opinion they need to make like Samsung and give their phones more of an identity.
They need try harder to keep their phones in order instead of releasing 20 different devices. They've taken a step in the right direction with the One series, but the naming is way too confusing for most people to be able to tell what the phone is all about. HTC needs a way to make a budget, mid-end, and high-end phone that isn't different on every carrier and that represents itself well.
With the One series, you have the One X, the One XL, the One S, the One V, and I'm sure that the upcoming/rumored One "XL+" (or whatever we call it) will join that lineup as well. The names just have no way of differentiating themselves without looking into the specs. If you walked up to someone and said, "Do you want the One V or the One S?" They're going to say, "Huh? What do the letters mean?"
But with all of the growth that Samsung has seen, I'm not sure that HTC will ever be able to catch up.
That settles it...I am buying a spare Rezound

I agree. But Sense is why most brought the phone, right?

No... Many people on this site will likely say they bought it for the hardware, not software. This is a development forum. We know Sense can be ripped away (or at least shrink and improved).

These threads should be banned, as they generate little to no actual discussion.
Sure, it sucks for Samsung. But a lot of what Apple went after them for at least made a little sense. Samsung blatantly copied Apple in many situations. And even if there were examples of prior technology that fit the case, Apple was able to show that Samsung intentionally copied Apple's work instead of basing work off of said prior technology.
Before we start a circlejerk of people condemning Apple and all of its employees to hell, please realize that this was a legitimate legal decision and the people who made this decision put a lot of thought into it. I'm not happy that Samsung lost either, but I also believe that they lost for a reason.

This major win with a major competitor will only give birth to a whole new round of suits and new strategy that will probably lead to us being phucked over. The realization of apple being a monopoly is becoming ever more true. You think the bs we had to put up with when our EVOs were held in customs was crap, just wait. I see bad things heading our way. I know Samsung copied apple. We all said that awhile ago. But jeez, if the courts will agree with apple that a rectangle with rounded corners is copying, then what does that say for us?

Edit: Disregard, I don't want to continue this conversation.
If I was running apples legal department I would Sue Samsung also they are tearing there sales apart all apple needs to do to dominate the market again is make more choices for there phone bigger screens easy hacking and better ui improvements come on apple dust off those thinking caps and make a new product instead of pumping out the same phone every year.

Maybe apple deserved this one...but This sets precedent.for apple to go ape**** on everyone ..and they will...they just acquired another billion dollars ..enough to have a full time kill android legal team for 200 years

Ha.. A billion dollars. Should be able to pay their lawyers with that.
It's not like Apple is going to be able to go willy nilly on other OEMs now. They don't have the resources for that, and if they keep it up, Google will eventually step in.
Exactly that's what I'm saying...apple isnt gonna stop at this..google is gonna need to get involved..which it looks like they did with the Motorola suit..everyone knows moto is an ip bank..
I wonder what type of phones the judge and members of the jury use?

As much as I love Android, I kind of have to agree that some of the devices that Samsung were making did look like iFails. Hell, I think Touchwiz does. I will say though, that Apple suing anyone for stealing ideas when they themselves have done so repeatedly in the past is just bs.
Here's the break down of what was infringed. Placement of home button? Thin frame with rounded corners? Serious!? I'm no Samsung fan, but for the sake of our future of android devices I was rooting for Sammy.

Like I.said..that's the scary part..they went to court with these bs patents and they won..now every phone that has those traits can be targeted..this is just the beggning im afraid..esp when its prob difficult to find a jury that isn't a iPhone or android user ..and its the patent that's the issue..once granted the court will uphold their decision..that's where reform needs to begin
I wouldn't worry. This will probably be overturned. A lot of mistakes by the jury.

Hey guys, so yesterday I made the switch to Sprint (it's waaay cheaper than VZW here..) and in return I got rid of my Rezound in exchange for the beautiful HTC One. I'm gonna miss all the talented developers here but I'm gonna miss Snuzzo's kernel and how helpful he is the most . It sucked selling my Rezound after having it for over a year and a half. I came from an iPhone to the Rezound, so everyone here made my first Android experience a great one. The reasoning behind it is because my Rezound's digitizer plug-in was messed up after replacing my screen twice, my front housing was peeling off from opening it, the vibrating motor was broke and the battery life was..well, we know our Rezounds and their batteries lol. I never post but I feel like I'm friends with everyone here just because this community is so nice and helpful. I'm gonna miss you all .
PS the One is amazing. I'm not as wowed as I was with my Rezound because I'm already familiar with Sense and Android, but it feels great in my hands and looks amazing.
I just bought a pair of Nexus 4s for the wife and I and switched to T-Mobile. This is definitely an awesome little dev community. Many thanks to all!

First; thank you for the kind words BOTH OF YOU. Good to see I helped you. Second; Who says I won't be doing anything on the Htc One?
I will definitely miss this community too! 3 days before I leave for basic training, my battery goes south and the earliest I can get a new battery is sometime on Tuesday...when I'll already be on a plane to Ft. Jackson. Bought a GS3 on CL, and I must say, the battery life is so phenomenal compared to the Rezound. 12+ hours compared to my average 4-6.
Will definitely miss the devs! I've been here since launch day in November 2011. My oh my how far development has come!!
And now Jellybean is out! I gotta stop monitoring this board cause now I'm hurting lol

Just picked up my 3rd Rezound... a minty used one with a ton of accessories and extra batteries, for $155. Nothing about this phone makes it anywhere near obsolete, but you guys just keep chasing after the latest, greatest shiny new device, and keep spending $$$. The smarter ones will be around to pick up your dirt cheap discarded leftovers. I'm still on my very first Rezound (purchased on Black Friday 2011), I just gave a used "spare" to my wife after her old dumb phone died, and now I have another backup/experimenting phone for cheap.
THANK YOU!

Sounds like someone is jealous. Don't be hating because some of us can afford the latest and greatest when it comes out .

Ahhh... I see. Common sense is the new Jealousy. :silly:
I could pay cash for a new One every month, and never miss the money. I don't live in my mom's basement, either. Fact remains, the Rezound is still a great device, and other than the lemming-like desire to have the "latest and greatest" (for no other reason than the dread of feeling left out of the stampede), there's no real reason to switch from it.
BTW... how much better was that Nexus than your Rezound? (my wife has one for a company-issued phone, and it SUCKS compared to her Rezound)
I am thinking of getting an S4 to replace my Rezound and use the Rezound to replace my D1. That way I can still have the best of both worlds.

I liked my Nexus way better vs my Rezound. Battery life was better, call quality was great, no creaky back and no washed out colors like the LCD on the Rezound. I do admit that the display on the Rezound is more crisp. That and all AOSP roms atm on the Nexus are way smoother for now. The only reason I dropped the Nexus is cause the screens would keep crapping out on me. Once developement starts firing up for the S4 bye bye S3! Plus if you have the financial standing to buy a new device and have enough left over in your bank for rainy days why care? Spend your money on things you enjoy! Spoil your wife and kids! When you croak and have a nice life insurance policy they'll be set for some time.

Some of us have more disposable income vs others and that's just an unfair fact of life .
Again, even though I myself CAN AFFORD to get a new device. I've not had a reason to. I guess assets and a word call saving doesnt apply when you said "disposable". Just save the "disposable" income. May need it one day.
What I am saying is go for it, but don't fill my mouth with words. Again, jealous, heck no.

When we're talking about a devices that are hobbled by the inability to replace batteries when they go dead (planned obsolescence), or upgrade memory (thus forcing users into relying on cloud storage and higher data charges), then yes... it is a lesser intelligence issue. You're playing into the provider's hands, rather than calling your own shots. (OOOoooo.... look!! SHINY!!!)

I was never implying you were jealous. To each their own when it comes to what they do with their $$$. I just think freedoom is a **** when he is stating someone is of lesser intelligence for hopping on a newer device of their choice. I am directing the comment purely at him.

This is why I choose which shiny new device suits my needs before I buy it and drool. Plus I have unlimited data so idgaf about using cloud solutions . Some people don't care about swapping out batteries.. As most of them will already have a newer device before the battery goes bad. Lol you really think you're calling your own shots when you're contracted with a carrier? I rest my case.
