Hi Folks,
I'm on the latest RR remix 4.1.2 for S2 and can no longer see the phone when connected to PC via USB.
I tried re-installing USB drivers, fail. Actually I cannot see it from my home or Work PC so its not the drivers.
I also tried flashing kernels CM10, Siyah, Dormanix to no avail.
Tried all the USB options in settings, still broke.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Trev
Does your phone still charge when plugged in?
Are you drivers you used the most recent ones?

Flash siyah kernel, then open Extweaks/MISC/USB mass storage mode select "force mass storage mode" and save changes.

Morning all.
As of yesterday, my S2 won't connect to any pc in mass storage mode.
At first it connected as it should, but after about 5 minutes - before I'd transferred anything - I got a message that windows couldn't recognise the device/driver installation unsuccessful.
Since then I get this message immediately, have tried 4 different pcs.
Would seem the USB drivers are FUBAR somehow, but MTP via Kies works, as does Odin.
I've tried a full factory reset/reinstall, previous backups - stock and custom - removed, reinstalled and updated Kies, cleaned the USB port on the phone - nothing doing. Have tried stock kernels, Siyah, Nimphetamine - nothing. Currently on XWKL1, custom ROM (krinyo's SlimROM) with Siyah 2.6.3+
Also tried uninstalling various USB ports on my home pc, but stopped when I discovered it was the same on all pcs.
It's not the end of the world - I have bluetooth and my microSD - but it's a PITA and I'm out of ideas.
Many thanks for any help/suggestions.

Yes, forgot to add that, sorry. Tried with and without, no difference.
Tried changing the usb cable?

Dear All
Following are my observations and possible steps to
1. When the phone is upgraded to Android 2.3.4 and above (mine is 2.3.6) Kies stops recognizing the phones and USB connection / Serial port connections etc get reset on the phone
2. Even if proper drivers are there on the laptop (mine is Windows 7 64bit) they are not recognized
3. Device Manager shows "unknown device"
4. Updating the driver also does not result in any help
5. solution lies in the phone
a. key in the dialer *#7284#
b. it has 4 option there..
UART (MODEM/PDA)
USB (MODEM/PDA)
c. For USB. select the PDA.if it already selected to PDA. reselect it by select MODEM and then PDA again.. Only change the USB setting.. andthen press back. try reconnect (thanks to napi1 @ androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-international/447145-sgs2-kies-not-syncing-os-2-3-5-a.html#post3484588)
6. The Laptop will start recognizing the required drivers and install them

Maybe this can help
Getting a Service Mode FC when I enter that code in the keypad.
Will try it with an older backup.
Edit - tried it with a backup of CheckROM , 2.3.6. No FC, PDA already selected. Tried 5c above, still no good - unknown device on pc..

No. Can't see that there's a problem there if Kies and Odin connect OK.

Bugger me, it was the cable....
Bought a new S2 yesterday - nice to have a backup, and the Nexus is meh - and tried the new cable on old S2, everything fine. Old cable on new S2, no good for USB but fine for Kies and Odin as mentioned before.
No idea why it should be like this, but sh*t happens. Easiest solution is often the best!
same problem happened to me too
I have the exact same problem, tried everything like OP, even new cable still same issue...any ideas?

Hi guys,
I have a problem that's fairly common but I can't get it right
I can't install new drivers for my SGS2, my pc/laptop don't recognize it anymore.
I have flashed an ICS rom before so I also tried the Nexus S drivers, no success.
I have tried to work with Android SDK manager but since my laptop can't find my phone, it won't find it as an adb device.
I managed to get back on 2.3.3 via CWM manager but my USB jig also doesn't work anymore.
I have tried everything regarding Kies and new drivers so I'm pretty much out of hope... Anyone with suggestions?
You could use mobile odin, also if you flash back to ics you can reset counter with triangleaway and then flash back to gb

Problem is that I can't flash back the old bootloader..
I think the logical step would be to try another PC, given you've tried everything else & nothing has worked.
You could also maybe try Heimdall (search for it on here).
Also, if you haven't tried different USB cables (in particular the one that came with the phone), give that a shot. Also make sure you're connecting the phone to a powered/mainboard USB port & not a hub port. Also, try toggling USB debugging in your phone settings.
That's about all I got. Try these things if you haven't already, but definitely try another PC.

I have tried different ports with different cables, different pc also won't install the drivers.
Usb debugging on/off doesn't work either.
Going to try heimdall today but it has something to do with my phone since I flashed so many files before with my pc and with my laptop.
Will post after I tried.
Yeah it sounds like a phone issue given you have been able to flash firmware with that PC previously. Good luck with Heimdall, fingers crossed for you.

Nope, heimdall can't recognize my phone either.
Running out of ideas here.
I guess there isn't an option to flash the old bootloader other than Odin huh?
Unfortunately Mobile Odin can't flash bootloaders yet, so Odin (and probably Heimdall) are your only options. Either way you're going to need USB.

My PC recently stopped working properly it connects but always fails flashing via Odin, I managed to set up Odin etc on GF laptop so at least I can use Odin if needed. Could you not try restoring your PC to earlier date and see if that works or uninstall everything to do with phone, kies, Odin adb etc and do a fresh install of everything

My phone doesn't connect at all.
I have tried uninstalling everything including drivers and such via USBDeview.
The problem lies with the phone itself I think, not my pc.
I think I have found the problem.
I think my USB port from my phone is broken.
I will try to reset my binary counter with Triangleaway, then flash back original firmware without root and then send it for repair to the Vodafone shop!
Hope this works

I have the same problem. I came from CM9 and now I cannot connect my phone to the PC. I am using CheckRom V6.
Do you think it has to do with the bootloader? Or might the usb port be broken as well?

Yeah I think that it has to do with the bootloader, but a broken usb port is also a common problem.
I still have warranty so I will just let Vodafone repair it.
If my pc still doesn't recognize it after that, then I'm screwed.

Ok but if it is a bootloader problem, we should not be the only ones having that problem.
I do not think I can send my phone to repair, since I am abroad for another few months.

Correct, I have searched the whole internet and there are some others with the same problem with the bootloader, but they can connect their phone and install the drivers I guess. I have tried everything regarding new drivers and such so I reckon that my usb port is broken.

Hey Folks.
Lost my USB mounting and I don't know why. Switched over from CM9 (mounting in windows works without any problems with the recommend driver) but now when I plugged in my cabel, windows can't installed the driver (using LP7 with CFroot).
I reinstalled the driver, choose manualy the driver but nothing worked.
Any ideas?
Thank you.
try with usb debugging mode...
must be your PC issue....put the cable to the direct mother board socket after PC reboot
Also tried it with USB Debugging on and off on every USB port and two diffrent pcs.
having the same problem since using ics r. remix and still cant fix

Nice to see that I am not the only one.
And yes to all others. We could use airdroid but I am not everytime in the same wlan.
aha well, some ICS roms dont support USB mass storage.. which is gay, but it should go back to normal when you flash back to a GB rom... which is wierd. I find many issues are fixed if... DUN DUN DUUUUUUUNNNN you unroot then reroot. This will delete all your shiz, so makesure you have a few CWM system backups saved
You probably know this, but i hope it helps

Could you list what LP7 rom you got (stock?).
Do you mean USB Mass Storage (ICS style) or MTP (GB style)?
I'm on WanamLite v10.7 (also LP7) with Siyah 3.0.1.
I didn't try stock LP7 / CF-Root so I'm not sure what might be the reason in that setup but here everything is working great.
You might want to try to download the latest Kies (even if you don't use it) and get the latest drivers that way - some times helps.
Hey.
Runing this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24753451&posted=1#post24753451
Which is nearly stock...deodexed and so on...
I am running atm the old LP7, now i saw that chainfire released the actual WLP7 (will flash it tonoght).
I mean the ICS mounting method. It is the stock one from this rom.
Kies is a good idea. Will also try it this evening.
Thanks for your help.

USB mass storage
Hi,
That doesn't seem to work with the latest updates of ICS (4.0.4?). When plugging in the HTC Desire, I get the USB notofication and tapping on that allows selection of mounting the USB mass storage. However, on my Galaxy S2, I don't get the USB notification and so no option to mount USB. Under settings -> More - I don't have any USB utilities.
I'm running CM9 nightly from Apr 13th and Siyah 3.1rc2 kernel. Anyone else?

known issue in the latest AOKP ICS...heard that you can access through MTP
access through mtp
Thanks for the hint about MTP and glad I'm not losing the plot re AKOP known problem....
I had seen the device show up and assumed it was MTP, but there is no indication on the phone that it is connected thru MTP. I didn't want to try anything in case I messed up. Not a pressing issue for the mo, though. I presume the BYT (bright young things) will work this out soon...

If I helped you press thanks!
After installing any version of 4.4 (Geeb's, PA beta, CM11) my device refuses to show up when I use MTP. I've reverted back to 4.2.1, stock, and it works just fine, so it's not my device, and I can't uninstall/reinstall drivers since my device won't show up in Device Manager.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you updated to a kitkat recovery? http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2453200&d=1386977662
Also try a different cord, usb port, and computer if you haven't already. Also if you haven't done a clean install (wipe) that could be it.
