Custom recovery after Dirty Racun S-OFF - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I was just wondering if anyone was having problems booting into TWRP or Getting SuperSU after gaining S-OFF with DirtyRacun. First off I just wanted to say I followed the directions and DirtyRacun worked flawlessly. But afterward I was having problem booting into recovery. I tried flashing through goo manager and through fast boot. Finally I unlocked through fast boot again using same unlock token as before, and it immediately booted into recovery. I am still a Noob. I only tried this because it didn't say unlocked on the boot loader screen. But it did work.

I did have issues being able to successfully boot into recovery after fastboot flashing TWRP. Using the bootloader (PJ75IMG) method worked fine, though.

Good to know. Like I stated I am a noob. I tried to get help on the irc channel but got stonewalled. I guess the question is considered off topic. After I Re unlocked the boot loader I was able to use a previous nandroid and boot right up. Maybe this will be something that could be added to future releases of Dirty Rancun.

I downloaded both files but didn't change twrp to a zip. I tried flashing through fastboot. Sounds like that would have been much easier. Either way I got up and running. I imagine a lot of people will have same issue hopefully this thread will clear up a lot of questions. Definitely would have saved me some headache

After you do the DirtyRacun process it should not say "unlocked" at the top. It should say "-- Dirty Racun--" or something like that and show s-off.
When I did this process day before yesterday I did the Dirty Racun process, then make sure to boot your phone to the stock rom first. Then you can reboot to the bootloader and fastboot TWRP, then restore your Nandroid.
I had no problem at all except that Dirty Racun would not accept my 2GB card. All I had was a 2GB and 32GB and the 32GB is not supported. Ladyx patched the program and uploaded a new version to the site so that the 2GB would work. After that the process went flawlessly for me.

I processed a successful dirty raccun s-off Hboot1.19.(phnoe died so I sent it in and HTC hgave me a new one). I tried from goo off the play store, PJ75IMG.zip and nothing. Any thoughts from that point? Sure would like to get rolling on this thing with a nandroid and a little rom action!

Have same problem except I am still s-off and trying to get root. Tried the goomanger to install and also tried changing the names of it file and flashing in bootloader mode. I RUU to 2.13, relocked, took the latest OTA and still can get root by any method. I have the latest hboot (dont remember the number, but it's higher than 1.19. Any ideas!

Help - Recovery not working and me no smart

I am very new to this and did something as my friend said, really stupid. I rooted my Evo LTE with the one click root method. This installed TWRP Recovery. After a few days I found a ROM I wanted to install. I installed ROM manager and along with this it installed Clockworkmod. I tried to install the rom from the zip I put on the root but clockwork opens up as my recovery instead of TWRP and does not run any commands. So after trying to get clockwordmod to work and couldn't... I decided to unroot phone and just re-root (yes very stupid). So after unrooting via SuperUser, I tried to install the RUU and it would'nt install as bootloader/recovery not work. I have no clue what to do
Are you running the ruu on your pc? It's not something you flash on your phone.

cwm recovery dont work on the evo LTE.. u have to flash the twrp 2.2.0 recovery.. yea the ruu is like a tool.. plug ya phone in and run it.. very easy

You have to relock your bootloader to run an ruu.

Try to flash TWRP again. If your able to do this then running a ruu is not nessary. As stated before clockworkmod recovery has problems on the Evo LTE.

Thank you thank you, I was able to relock the bootloader last night. Tonight I will try and reflash TWRP. This has been a good learning experience so far. At least i didn't brick the phone As the phone is no longer rooted do i need to root it as part of my flashing TWRP? The one click root method installs TWRP as part of the whole process.

You do not need to be rooted to flash a recovery but your bootloader needs to be unlocked. If your unlocking your bootloader using htcdev method then you don't need to be rooted. If your unlocking your bootloader using lazypanda method then you need root or temp root before you can run lazypanda.

Yeah, I had to dust out the cobwebs of my brain after successfully S-OFF'ing this morning. Wish I would have seen this thread first because I had forgotten what to do! All I did was fastboot flash the recovery via adb and then flash the zip from twrp. I had to use Ubuntu though because I can't find Windows 8 64bit drivers that work

I received my EvoLTE two days ago and immediately Rooted using HTCDev and the TWRP recovery. I wrongly believed this would give me S-Off and obviously I was wrong about that. So...I need to learn how to get S-Off after Rooting. From reading on the forum it seems I have to do the S-Off procedure and then go through the Rooting process again.
Question: I'm Rooted presently, can I follow the S-Off procedure while Rooted? Will this un-Root me? I don't know if I have to un-Root first, then do the S-Off steps, then Root again, or if I can just do S-Off which will un-Root me then Root again.
I haven't found a clear answer yet and appreciate any and all help.
thanks,
DC
I s-off my brother's phone last week, I just flashed recovery thru the hboot then flashed a custom Rom and was good to go since the Rom already has su in it.

Yes u can follow the instructions to gain soff (make sure you choose the right method for your h-boot) then you will have to regain root access by method of your choice but if you are new I'd recommend using regaw's automatic rooter and skip the htc unlock step (because after s-offing you will already be unlocked)

Awesome this pretty much answered my question of the next step after getting s-off from dirtyracun. They are so concerned with only s-off in their thread that they don't even point anyone in the right direction afterwards. I am sure their method is 99% safe and so on, but it woulda been nice to see some guidance on the next step (ie regaining root, loading recovery, loading custom rom, etc)
EDIT: Successfully Got S-off via racun, running win 7 32 bit, evo 4g lte, flashed recovery & SU as listed by TC successfully. Phone is NOT a brick.
Glad to be of help! Now the phone is really "yours" to enjoy

[Q] AmonRa parsing issue?

Hey all, just received a replacement rezound under warranty due to the charge port being all muffed up, and of coarse the first thing was unlock via htcdev which worked fine.
Here is the issue.. when trying to flash amonra via fastboot or PH98IMG.zip in bootloader it won't flash. For fastboot it says "unknown error" and as a PH file in bootloader it says "parsing..." for a few seconds then disappears without flashing anything. I've re-downloaded and checked md5's and still get the same errors.
My last rezound was s-off and that whole process was quick and painless and I don't understand why the same procedure I used on my last rezound isn't working now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

indeed *** unlocked *** is displayed at the top on hboot. and ive tried "fastboot flash recovery (nameofrecovery.img) with nameofrecovery changed to what i have it saved as and no luck. even tried relocking and ruuing too just to make sure it wasnt the software messing everything up.
Can't remember but can you try to S-OFF first? (It's been so long, but I can't remember whether you have a custom recovery already on).
Ah, one other stupid thing.... have you tried a different sdcard?

I was thinking about the sd card being the issue but it installed an ruu via ph98img.zip perfectly fine bit its worth a shot. And on unlimited.io's site they say you need to be completely stock with root and as far as I know amonra is the only way to root on a stock ruu. I managed to s-off tho after using hasoon's tool to flash amonra. I'm now completely stock again after ruuing back to gb then accepting ota
so I'll try flashing amonra again and report back. Thank you for your help!

You can install any custom recovery and use it to flash SuperUser. The root option in Amon Ra doesn't usually work by itself anyway.

Oh ok thats good to know actually. just cant seem to install any custom recoveries lol. i chose to install amon ra 3.15 with hasoons tool and for some reason i have 3.06 installed.. dont know how or why but i do. tried to install 3.15 with his toolkit again and got the stupid error again. i dont know what to do at this point lol. never had this problem with the last rezound. i am s-off now but do not have the recovery i want installed.
should i try ruu'ing again and start fresh?
and for what its worth i do have the jb hboot installed just to see if that was the issue. had to use fastboot commands to install it so i dont think thats the issue. i think its the download for amonra 3.15 i have. if anyone has a personal copy of 3.15 that is confirmed working and is willing to share it itd be greatly appreciated.
To use the fastboot commands you must be unlocked. With the parsing error. That will sometimes happen if you have a file called "update.zip" on your sdcard. Try seeing if you have one of those files. If your HBOOT does say s-off. Flash the GB RUU. Just so you can verify everything has changed. and then restart with the ICS RUU then flash a recovery. This time not with that tool.

Since you're on the OTA ICS firmware, you should definitely NOT be running Amon Ra 3.06. You need to be on 3.15. If the md5's match what's on your sdcard and what's on the OP at that thread, it shouldn't be a bad download, but just in case, I loaded it up on my Dropbox and you can try the one here.
As far as alternate recoveries, while I was very impressed with TWRP, it is incapable of wiping boot, so that's a nonstarter. Admittedly, if Flyhalf solved that issue, I'd switch to it. As far as CWM Touch, that has issues with reading sdcard2, as of the last time I checked, or at least with respect to its interaction with various ROMs and their features. For me at least, having tried all of the Rezound recoveries, Amon Ra is my preferred choice.
just push AR manually instead of using the tool:
Unzip the file from the link listed below onto the root of the C drive on your PC, and it should create a folder called Android on the root of C.
1) open a cmd prompt and type " cd c:\Android " without quotes
2) boot to fastboot and make sure your USB is plugged into the pc and phone
3) type " fastboot flash recovery recovery.img " without the quotes
This should push the AR 3.15 to your device. I included AR 3.15 in the Android folder below.
the folder contains a txt file of a few other handy commands that i use. that txt file is for reference only
https://www.dropbox.com/s/aycfqc37tvkhbdl/Android12-14-2012_22+21+19.rar
I ended up flashing twrp and it worked great. Like a previous poster said if it could wipe boot it would be perfect. But it got the job done and am up and running again. Thank you all for your help!

Flashed ROM with TWRP... phone not booting.

Just flashed my first ROM (newest CM 10.1 nightly) with TWRP and everything seemed to have gone well but when I hit "Reboot" the HTC logo flashed for a second and then the screen went black and it's not doing anything. Been like this for 10 minutes.
I already rebooted back into recovery and reset the phone and cleared the caches and flashed the ROM again. Same thing.
Anyone know what's going on?

This is because you have the newest touch panel firmware. It only works with roms based off of 3.16...currently no aosp Rom will work for you unless you s-off and downgrade to the 3.15 panel firmware. This is my understanding anyway. Flash a 3.16 sense Rom (viper, meanbean, etc) and you'll be back in business.

Try getting a copy of cwm (not the touch version) and flash it via the fast boot method. Use the volume rockers to move, camera to select, power to go back.
It'd be easier to just ruu back to stock and start at square 1. Doesn't take that long to root and s-off anymore. Dirty racun would probably still work too.

Yeah, if you wanna run ANYTHING other than a sense 3.16 ROM, you're gonna HAVE TO S-off so you can downgrade that damn touch panel that came with the 3.16 update (thanks HTC :banghead
I thought the latest twrp was compatible with the updated TP now, though. What TWRP version you using? If not, as stated above, finding non-touch CWM recovery sounds like only/best solution. That was a good idea. Last I heard (long ago), CWM for this device breaks your /misc partition. Viperboy used to have it posted in the old viper thread so you could repair /misc. Not sure if it's still there.
Good luck.
From my Evo LTE, yup.

[Q] Stuck in bootloop (unlocked/rooted/s-off)

Hello all, and thank you for taking your time to attempt to help me with my problem.
I could not find a solution even after hours of researching and trial and error, so please forgive me if this happens to be one of those problems that are seemingly impossible to solve, when the actual solution is really quite simple! I'm hoping it is at the very least...
A few days ago I received an HTC Evo 3d from a family member.
I'm certain that the phone was completely stock, never rooted, no custom ROMs ---- just an ordinary HTC 3vo.
So I decide that I'm going to go ahead and find the steps necessary in order to flash a custom ROM, and I believe I did with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438
I followed the guide, and eventually got to "***Step3: Perform JuopunutBear (wire trick) to get S-OFF status" where I had a little difficulty with the timing of the taps on the SD card. At one point I removed the battery from my phone because I thought it was stuck on the screen with the green arrow pointing downward, and after trying to reboot I found that the same JuopunutBear screen with the green arrow was still there.
I removed the battery once more, but this time when booting I held the volume down button to initiate bootloader. That went successfully, and so after trying the methods I found at http://unlimited.io/jbtroubleshooting.htm to remove this screen, I figured that I might try and flash a ROM from recovery and maybe that would fix it?xD My logic proved only half correct because even after formatting data/cache/dalvik, and then flashing a few different ROMs (not in the order of course) to see if any of them would allow the phone to boot up completely into OS, the phone is now stuck in a bootloop :'(
If I didn't provide enough information in the above description then I'd be glad to give any more details.
My bootloader reads like this:
- Juopunutbear -
SHOOTER XC SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.57.5757
eMMC-boot

^ Never noticed that the date is inaccurate before typing all of this out! Not sure that has anything to do with my problem here, but still interesting..
Thank you again for taking your time to help me.
This phone has given me trouble since it was first given to me lol.
The first issue before rooting or anything was with the inability to use wifi!
I ended up having to buy service for the phone to even register my Gmail account..
You're in good shape
With s off you can recover easily.
The question is what do you want to run?
If you're going to stay ics sense, then you'll just need to format all partitions except sd and flash a Rom
If you want to run a jb Rom, you need to downgrade your hboot to the jbear 1.50

I think the date is the release of the bootloader or something...shouldn't be today's date

Thank you for the reply
I'll try flashing different sense ROMs specifically,
and see if it will boot all the way through to the home screen.
Have you installed a recovery?
I suggest 4ext

I have installed a recovery, and it just happens to be 4ext!
I've been installing my ROMs by toggling usb storage in recovery, placing the ROM on the root of my microSD, and after disconnecting from usb storage I proceed to flash the chosen ROM, provided I've already wiped everything.
My trouble usually comes afterward when the ROM has completed it's installation and I go to reboot. Every time I've tried so far I've encountered a bootloop :/ But we'll see this time!
Gotcha
You'll get it sorted
What Rom are you trying now?
Sometimes you need to flash the boot.IMG after the Rom, but that usually only happens if youre s on.
If it still bootloops I would try this next:
Boot to recovery
Wipe all partitions
Reboot recovery
Wipe all partitions again
Flash Rom
Reboot phone
If all else fails you can run the ruu (will return u to stock Rom and recovery) and you will keep s off but will need to install recovery again.

I chose Team d3rp - Lights Out just to see if it would work, and to my surprise it did!!!
I wiped everything but my sd manually once,
and after flashing the ROM, the aroma installer gave the option to wipe again so I did.
After a suspenseful minute or two during the reboot, I finally got everything set up!
I can't thank you enough..!!
I'm not sure if I should make another thread or not, but the only problem I see now is with the wifi.
I have it connected to my network, and it's showing full signal,
but I can't access the internet and 3g doesn't even pick up when wifi is on.
If needed I'll make another thread, but I figured I would ask just in case!
I appreciate all the help so far.
Try a reboot or different kernel...don't know why it doesn't work

Hello, a couple of days ago I received an HTC Evo 3D, but I don't like the stock HTC rom, so I decided to use NonSense (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507616). I updated firmware, and installed CWM 6.0, wiped partitions and installed that ROM. But now i got a bootloop :/ .
Bootloader is unlocked..

S-off, I think it has to be s-on, hboot 1.53.0007, i'm currently trying to use RUU get back to stock, RUU says :
from image version 3.28.401.1 to 3.28.631.1
But it fails because of model id.
Bootloader is currently relocked.

You can only flash sense based ROMs with that h-boot. Since you're s-off just downgrade your h-boot to 1.49.0007 or 1.49.1107 and you can flash anything you want

Oh crap, made a mistake, I have s-on.
Then you can only flash sense based ROMs. Try Cool ICS, it's great. Or do s-off ?

I was about to download that, hopefully it'll work. :fingers-crossed:
You need 4ext recovery and smartflash enabled because Cool uses custom kernel

I tried with CWM, and after a successful flash and boot, I flashed boot.img via fastboot, seems to be working, thank you!
You're welcome
