I want to change missed call icon on status bar, but can't find right png file. In which apk should I look for it, and how it should be named? I'm using ICS.
SemcPhone.apk. Look in the drawable-hdpi folder.

in SemcPhone.apk I have only incoming call, and active call icon, there is no missed call icon.
It should be modified at phonebook.apk

in framework-res.apk .. drawable-hdpi : stat_notify_missed_call.png

Can anyone tell me how to make the background transparent? What in values do i modify?

There is some backgrounds in the drawable folders of the mms.apk. They are all .9.png. So i would think if you edit those and redraw them you may be able to get the desired effect you are looking for. At least that would be my first thing to try rather then trying to recode them.

any one have any ideas? this is driving me crazy
Try your styles XML in the values folder. Of course you have to decompile and compile properly if you aren't already.

Advanced settings>Interface>status bar tweaks.
You can change signal to text (#-db), but I don't see a way to disable it all together.
Maybe if you use 7zip, you could pull out (copy) your systemUI.apk, nav to res/drawable hdpi, find the signal icon, and delete it. Then replace current systemUI.apk with that. I don't think it would have any negative affects, but if so, just put the original systemUI.apk in system/app (the location systemUI always is)
Good luck.

I would like to change the lockscreen internally, not with one application.

See if you just want to change the slider tabs then look for pngs with name like jog_slider_tab un framework-res.apk
But if you want to change the style like puzzle or 9 lockscreens then deep modding in framework.jar and android.policy.jar is required
Thank you

What icons are you looking to change? If its in the app drawer, you'd need to go in and change the file one by one unless you found a perfect theme. There are a few good apps that let you change icons on the home screen. Desktop VisualizeR is a good one.
I want to change app drawer icons without any theme.

Whichever app's icon you want to change, first get it on your PC. Decompile it, change the icon and then recompile!
Replace it with the current app with root explorer!

- First transfer the apk file, you want to edit, to your computer. ( I am assuming you know how to )
- Use 7zip to extract the apk on your PC.
- Edit the icons you want in the folder you just got after extracting the apk.
- Now open the Original Apk with 7zip.
- Now drag the edited icons from the extracted folder to the original apk and overwrite them.
Now you can install it on your phone!

Easiest answer:
using 7zip or winrar extract the images folder to the desktop
folders could
drawable-hdpi
drawable-xhdpi
and variance of those.
Some are in folders
mipmap-hdpi
mipmap-mdpi
mipmap-xhdpi
change the image to what you want.(remember to maintain the image size)
and then drag them back in the apk folder.
NOTE: if the icon is a jpg you cant change the image or even modify it.
