As there is almost 1xx roms out there (if not more) i wonder what you think is the best rom. you can also compare two roms, or even compare different android versions, and tell what you miss and what you don't miss. mostly there is improvement in JB and many say its the best but do everyone agree? honestly this can keep track for other members that seeks a rom they want,
Hope you understand the meaning of this thread, this is to share information so other people can take advantage of your information.
please tell what made you move from your current rom.
what makes you stay on your current rom, also what can be improved, or deleted or if its perfect as it is.
Have fun

im not tryin to be rude even tho is going to come off like that. just google it...the answer will come in less then a sec or ask on a help sticky. dont make a new thread because you might be feeling lazy. good luck with your new hobby
Easiest way to look at them. The Kernel is the brain, it is the control point. Everything goes through it.
ROM is more of what you see, the programs and such.
While it is much more indepth that's the basics of it. Just remember to never use either that is not built for your phone.

This doesn't belong in the development section, or any. A Google search would yield results. And if you don't know the difference, you shouldn't even consider rooting.

^ I was thinking the same thing. Hence the reason I posted the question.
Goggle doesn't always explain things as well as someone with hands on experience.

Your explanation helps. I have messed with linux kernels on my computer before, but I wanted to make sure about this because its my phone and not a spare pc during around. Lol

Well...
You have to admit, at least the subject is dead on.
Symptom of a larger issue, I believe...
We need to separate things a bit better. All the support for the ROMS going on in here seems to be confusing people?
Dev forum, release forum, support forum, perhaps? XDA is becoming a huge mess which explains the recent off-shoots.
Wanted to let everyone know that I have been making videos for the community for a year now. I'm very excited to share these videos with you all!!
What to expect:
I have videos coming out every week and this will make it easier for those of you who can't seem to find a ROM that you like or perhaps want to know what ROM features are in them. You will be able to see those features and decide for yourself which ROM FITS YOU BEST!!! I will be showing quadrants from some ROMs as well as other SCORES like linpack, nenamark and other benchmarks. Just let me know what you would like to see. I do many different types of phones and ROMS so anything you want to see or know let me know.
I also have a NOOB TUTORIAL coming out that will explain how to ROOT and add ROMS to your phone STEP BY STEP EASY INSTRUCTIONS!

Tutorials are sorely lacking around here. I'm fairly technically savvy, much moreso than the average person. But even for me it's pretty daunting for somebody that's relatively new to rooting and flashing ROMs to actually follow through with it. Most of the step by step guides require a masters in Android before you can even understand them. Between kernels, radios, AOSP/AOKP, CWM/TWRP, nandroid, dalvik, Odin, GAPPS, format/wipe, different kinds of backups... it's pretty crazy. I know it sounds so simple to people who are familiar with it, but trust me, to many people it's not. Especially with a device that costs so much money and you have to make sure everything is compatible with one another. The developers in here do a great job of creating a ton of this stuff to use but it doesn't seem like the most welcoming place for beginners or "n00bs". Seems most questions or problems are treated by saying "you didn't read enough" or "you screwed up" which isn't very helpful. Part of the problem is that guides and tutorials become obsolete and out of date so quickly, yet people don't want to give new advice because something similar is covered in a 6+ month old tutorial.
So long story short... any new tutorials are welcome! I'm considering rooting and putting liquid JB on my Note but feel like it's safer to just wait for the stock upgrade at this point. I "upgraded" my old HTC Magic back in the Cupcake/Donut days to a CM build with new radios/kernels/SPLs or something, and could never un-do it and ended up making the phone useless.
Another excellent thread ....
With your permission I'll gladly add this into the super thread.
It is tireless work like this, that sets the note section apart as the Premier place to be.
I have every intention of using the note 1 for several years to come for the very reason I stated above.
The members and contributors are beyond compare ...
Many thanks ....g

Hey all.
I know this is a bit of a stupid question i guess, but i am not very knowledgable with roots/stocks or any other term you use. But ill ask anyway,
I am considering messing around with my S3, i am thinking about seeing if i can install a clean as google intended Jelly bean OS. Is this possible? What is the best and simplest way, and what is the risk percentage? What are the cons to such a move? And lastly is it easy to revert back to normal if i dont like it or send phone back to network for fixing at any point?
I know its quite a lot to ask. But i appreciate any help i can get.
Regards,
Barry.

Go to the Q&A forum and read the "Must do info guide for beginners."
Barry, try CM10 or AOKP.
Better ask in Q&A next time.

I would recommend that you check out either of the roms below. I reckon that these will currently give you the closest stock android jellybean that you are after. Just get your s3 rooted and add clockwork mod recovery then wipe and flash the rom zips and gapps.

The point of their posts was to point out your mistake.
It really doesn't take much leg work on your part to answer your own question without creating this thread....
Good luck modding your s 3.
With so many different options and considering this is my first venture into messing with my s3 i thought id ask to be sure.
Thanks for making feel so welcome and empowering me and giving me confidence to ask questions when i am unsure about things. *sarcasm*

The issue was that you asked a question in the Development forum and not the Q&A forum. We run a tight ship around here. Moved your thread to correct forum.
As others have said, CM 10 is your best bet.

How long have you been reading the forum? If you have been here for any length of time you will see the same questions being asked time and time again by people that don't put any effort into finding out how to solve it themselves.
Feel free to ask questions about things, but do your research first, your question showed that you didn't do this, hence the response you got.
Putting it in the wrong forum didn't help either.
Hi guys, Ive been using cm9.1 for some time, but days ago I compared my battery life with a friends phone who's using stock samsung 4.03 and realised he had like 5 or 6 more hours. It would be great if you people could tell me which good roms considering battery life. Thank you very much!

He didn´t ask wich is the best rom, just asked for advice.
I advice you the latest samsung roms from samfirmware stock rom, use the proper rom for your carrier or area.
And search one of the great kernels that you have from our great developers here and you will be happy.
Thats what i wanned to know thank you!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
If your comparing your phone with your friends, you would have to be doing exactly the same things/have the same settings/apps running etc.
Then if there was a 6 hour difference a conclusion could be drawn.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Why not using the stock?
Stock rom has best battery life

Best rom, advice on choosing rom etc etc its the same bloody thing and simply NOT allowed for many reasons but mostly been that is just clones other threads that are also opinionated. There is no need for threads like this you should be trying roms yourself and seeing what works bets for you, not creating topics that already exist to ask and answer the same stupid questions over and over.

No, people who don't read sticky topics or use search before creating topics is whats needed as they just add to the flood.
I recommend you search, read and try them out to make that decision. Locked
Hello, I understand that many of the ROMs are having issues with the music playback. I know the fix is just changing 2 lines in the build prop.. My question is, if that's the fix then why do the devs not make the fix before they release their builds? Seems like it would make life a little easier for all involved?

Is it that hard to change two words? Besides you can just save a file and make it permanent.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Thank you Zach that is exactly what I'm saying! Is it really that hard for Devs to make this change knowing that if they do not then everyone that uses their product will have to? I just do not see the sense in not changing it prerelease as I have seen tons of users commenting on here complaining about the music issue only to be directed to the fix. Why does there need to be a fix?

I meant on your end. Just change it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
brah its two little lines takes all of thirty seconds to do not that big of a deal, maybe they don't do it because there to busy making you a free rom. I get what your saying though, but I think we as users shouldn't have to be spoon fed everything. If a dev fixes it for us in his rom great if not no biggie I'll do it myself. Don't forget they really don't get paid for doing this for us.
