Is it possible to make a Service menu shortcut in Settings?
Modify settings.apk or something?
I know it's possible to put almost any app in there, so this should be no problem since service menu is .apk like any other.
Any tuts for modifying Settings.apk and adding some apps there?
I believe the Service menu (that you access through the Dial Pad) is not Settings.apk but a different one like Semc[xxx].apk.
What you can do is make a shortcut as if it was a phone number on your home screen if that would work for you.

Yeah, I know about the shortcut.
No, service menu is not part of Settings.apk. It's app for itself.
So then, It's possible to add a shortcut to that app (lets say ServiceMenu.apk) under Settings.
Do you get what's my point?
Accessing Service menu from settings, simply by clicking on it.

Hi!
It struck me the other day,
that instead of placing your shortcuts on your home screens
why not assign a hardware button to them?
I though it would be very nice just pressing W on the keyboard instead of going through my contacts when I want to call my wife.
But I can't find a single app capable of doing such a thing.
The closest thing I found was Hbuttons for WindowsMobile
Anyone got any suggestions ?

The web site you linked to says to go to Settings > Application settings > Quick launch to change shortcuts.. but there's no such option on the x10 mini.
Also, loads of the shortcuts on that site are SEARCH + $KEY..
there's no search button on the x10 mini either...
what we need is a key mapper or something like they have on the snesoid emulater. if someone could extract it, maybe it'll work
Really? Sorry about that. My phone is in the service center right now and I just read that article a while back and thought it would be the same.
Would love a solution for this, it's a feature i miss atm from hbuttons

On my Captivate I had the ability to add a Direct Dial icon to my screen, allowing me to call someone with one press of a button. I was using Launcher Pro, and am not sure if it was that launcher of the Samsun firmware that gave me the ability to add that shortcut.
However, on the Atrix, also running launcher pro, I don't see an option anywhere to add direct dial, as in its missing from the list of things to add.
I can add a contact to the page, but then there's a second step needed to actually dial the number.
Any thoughts on how I can get around it?
Nobody? Am I the only one who ever used the direct dial function?
I did it too, cant find it on atrix either
Had the same problem, here's what you can do:
Get the [free] app "Folder Organizer lite" from the market...Then go to the create a shortcut menu, and select Folder Organizer item - pick Direct Call / Direct Text etc. from the next menu and you're good to go. Works great! There is built-in functionality with Blur but I find it to be very flaky / hard to setup.
This worked! Thank you very much. Now I'm 100% happy with the phone!

how did you get this to work? after i make the contact in the app, I keep getting the error message that "shortcuts were only available in the paid version" whenever i click on the new contact .
Animated widget is pretty cool too. I can direct dial or text any contact in my book from a single widget. The other app that worked well was anycut.

You don't make the contact in the app. You just add a shorcut like you would any other on your homescreen (so press and hold and select shortcut), in the shortcuts menu there is an option for folder organizer items, select that and then select direct dial from the list.

I don't know what is an issue here but I'm running LauncherPro as well and on my Atrix speed dial works just fine. Simple press dialer and old any button except 1 which is voicemail.
I dont know what happen. I woke up one morning and the contact icon on the bottom of the home screen is gone. I usualy have four icons there. Phone contact messaging and application. But now i only have three. I still could see contact icon inside application. how do i fix it?
Open application drawer, menu, edit, long press the relevant icon and put it back? Or similar, I forget the exact order of things in TW.
how do i do that? im running on stock ics. I didnt root
I just told you? What's unclear and why are you going on about root?
In the 'Phone contact messaging and application', click on the application icon.
press the 'menu/options' button - this is the left of the 3 buttons at the bottom of the phone. this will pop-up a menu. Select 'Edit' from this menu.
You can now move all the icons about. You can move icons from page to page and also from the page to the 'Phone contact messaging and application'.
Once you have changed it to the way you want it, select the 'menu/options' button and select Save.
This has been already answered, but I thought I would make it a bit clearer. There is no requirement to root the phone for this as it is a standard feature of Android.

Im removing the bloatware from my providers rom. Ive achieved this without problems. My problem is that when I try to open up the MMS shortcut from the home screen bar is says "App ins't installed". Whats insteresting is that if I open MMS app from the applications menu it opens up without a problem. That makes me believe that the application shortcut thats being generated in the installation has a wrong path.
Is there a way where I can fix this? I want it to install without this problem.
Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about the dock shortcut at the bottom of the screen?
Just replace it with a working shortcut. You can do that on any launcher. TouchWiz included.

Yes but I want to do it in a "developer" perspective. I want to fix this so when people install it they dont have to replace it themselves.
Remember this is a rom Im customizing, there might be a file whose holding this shortcut path or something.

That is a good idea. But the shortcuts it creates from applications are not in sync with the main application.
I'd suggest looking at an app called shortcut maker. It has all the solutions to your shortcuts problem.

Give us a hint on how to create a shortcut on the home screen to access the mobile network mode.
Download the app..look for the shortcut that you need and the app creates it to your home screen...I have it on my phone...really good stuff.

That's not a hint.
In Shortcut Maker, as in Activity Launcher, there is no shortcut to mobile network mode.
Both apps only find what Shortcutter Quick Settings creates.

Assuming you have shortcut maker running, go to intents link, search for network...choose network operator settings...and then create shortcut...voila

Unfortunately, but it does not open the network selection list itself, only a place in the android settings where you can open the list.
In my solution the view is like this:

There just isn't a way my friend. Not to that specific part of the menu. That thread of the settings doesn't have its own activity.
The mother activity is
com.android.settings.Settings$WirelessSettingsActivity
And this is the closest you can get to that particular setting.
What I usually do is...using Modes and Routines....on a second home page....I add One manual routine for each mobile network connection type.
It isn't ideal....but it does work.

Here is how I do it.
Made a second page on your home screen.
This is optional.
Go to Modes And Routines.
Tap the "+" icon in the top right.
Tap the "+" under "If"
Tap "Start manually"
Tap the "+" under Then.
Tap "Connections"
Tap "Network mode"
A menu will pop up. Tap one. EG "2G only"
Now...under "When routine ends"
Tap "Reverse actions"
Toggle the top "On" toggle off.
(This is very important...because this makes the whole routin a switch a opposed to a toggle)
Tap "Save"
At the top tap "Network Mode" and rename it to what mode you chose for this switch.
Give it an icon...if you wish.
Now...depending on your launcher...you'll be asked to place a widget. Place it in your home screen.
Now...repeat...but swapping 2g to 3g....and so on.

Hang on! Are we talking about the same app. This is the app that I'm referring to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rk.android.app.shortcutmaker. This app takes you to the main network selection window..there you can choose the mode...This saves at least 2-3 prior clicks...

I know my way is long winded...but you do it once...and as long as you cancel the reverse action of each routine....you end up with a button you can tap to swap it to the network type you wish.
If you leave the reverse action...you end up with lots of routines "on" and the switching doesn't work.

Here is a video of it in action.....I sat her and set that up...just to show you how it works...but I like the way it works so much...
That I kept it...and moved my rice and BBQ timer routines to the new screen.
