Vudu Streaming video App - TouchPad Themes and Apps

Just downloaded the Vudu streaming video app. Appears to be a Beta and still has a few bugs. But, it looks like it could be very good when it is finished. So far, Hulu Plus appears to have NO Android support at all.

[Solved][Q] Streaming AVI Divx/Xvid

First of all, I am grateful that the vibrant can play divx encoded video files; I don't think I could live without it. Unfortunately it cannot stream them.
A solution is to start downloading the Avi and then [while its downloading] switch over to the Files application, go to the ".downloadTemp" folder [you need to first enable "hidden files" in the options], and open the incomplete *.avi in the stock video player application. This works wonderfully and i can instantly start watching a video AS IT DOWNLOADS.
UNFORTUNATELY, the video player app will not let me fast forward. Sometimes it lets me rewind, but it mostly takes me back to the very beginning of the video if I even touch the trackbar. And yes, for those who are wondering, the Video WAS sufficiently done downloading to reach the part of the video i wanted to fast forward to. I obviously wasn't trying to forward to the end of the video with only 10% of it downloaded.
I looked in the android market for alternative video players, and the only one that REMOTELY worked was Rockplayer. It would let me fast forward and rewind, except it was really glitchy and full of ads. I prefer just watching it on the perfectly stable stock Player than to use a glitchy one.
So i come to you guys, hoping for a solution. Any Ideas? Are there any other Video Players that i missed that will let me fast forward and rewind incomplete video files as they download?
(Oh, and if you're wondering the source of the videos, i usually just watch divx movies and shows that have been uploaded to megaupload, such as: megaupload.com/?d=T5D3YV8R&w=719&h=349)

Solved: VPlayer and Moboplayer support HTTP Streaming for DviX
I have read a few posts similar to yours, complaining about streaming divx avi files.
I myself do NOT have any issues with this and have tested a fair share of my 900gigs of divx avi's. I DO have issues stream MKV files while I have seen others report that they can stream MKVs.
What does this mean?
This means that AllShare is no different then any of the other DLNA based streaming software out there, there are compatibility problems that need to be worked out. Usually this is sorted out on the streaming server side and not the player.
I am saying that the software you are using to stream is more then likely causing the problem.
Give Twonky a try. Thats what I use and as I said I can stream divx/xvid avi's without issue. The downside is that Twonky is not free, the upside is that there is a 30 day trial to test and see if it resolves your issue. If it does, I dont think the price for Twonky is that bad, I paid $15. If you want a free one (they update compatibility less frequently) just google search DLNA or UPNP streamers and test a few out. XBMC is a good open source alternative, but is really not an option if you are using a windows box. XBMC is a program and not a service so you would be running a full media player at all times. XBMC can be setup as a standalone in linux though, if you have a spare PC to use.
Good luck.
When I say "stream," I don't mean from a home network source, I mean from an http source.
Therefore, I don't think the DLNA solution applies (Although i'm probably going to end up taking your advice for when i want to play videos from my computer, so thanks for the tip )
But that still leaves the current issue. Any Ideas?

AHHHHH.... I have been looking for a way to do this as well. HTTP streaming should no longer be an issue when 2.2 drops as sites like quicksilverscreen and the like all work fine through Flash 10.1 in 2.2. I have tested this with a Nexus1 and it works beautifully even over 3g.
I still want to have access to my home server though as I have close to a terabyte of video and my system is setup to auto download shows as they come out.
I am hoping to get my hands on a deODEXed version of the AllShare app to see if I can remove the WIFI only restriction. After that it should just be a matter of setting up a VPN back to my server.
Right, megavideo should work fine once we get the 2.2 update (woot! cant wait till we get flash xD)
as for movies uploaded on megaupload, I guess i'll survive with the .downloadTemp folder trick for now. Thanks.
And if i may ask, what's the quality like on allshare and twonky? and how fast does it respond to fast forwarding/rewinding?
I would like to stream from a regular windows samba share over wireless. I can't even get that working properly. It appears to be a limitation with the player and not the OS.

MXplayer to support full screen HDMI!!

So awhile back I sent an email to both BSplayer and MXplayer devs.. Asking if they could implement something in their app that gives full screen hdmi like Google play movies does, where it goes in to "hdmi mode" and the output is full screen...
Long story short MXplayer got back to me and had me send them some pictures of the Google app at work as well as what it looks like using mxplayer...
They just emailed me this morning saying they figured it out and it will be implemented in the next major update!!
Woohoo!!
I still think google needs to implement full ui scaling... But this is a great step
If this belongs in the apps section feel free to move it... I put it here because it is more about the hdmi than the app to me
AW: MXplayer to support full screen HDMI!!
Sounds good. Let's hope that the next update will be soon.

I have been waiting for this for a while and it's finally here, time to give Mxplayer another shot
:good: Thanks
Hopefully netflix do the same ..
Sv: MXplayer to support full screen HDMI!!
It's great they fix this. However I would prefer a system wide setting before individual app. Now we need to fix this for every app we want it.
But I'm very greatful to mx player developers who fix it on their side.
Skickat från min HTC Desire via Tapatalk 2
I totally agree... It should have been system wide from the beginning...
Beware of the latest update. It doesn't like tablets apparently, definitely the N10. It will force close trying to load any video. I had to restore the previous version to get it working again.
Update: Problem fixed by updating the custom codec to the matching version.

Great news! Thank you! :victory:

Sweet mxplayer rocks! Thanks for the info!:good:
Did this get implemented? I don't see anything @,@
In the mean time I use this hack from the android terminal
Code:
am display-size 2560x1440
And to reset
Code:

Has anyone gotten MX player to work with the android 4.3 update?

See: "MX Player alternatives for Android 4.3" dosn't look like there is a working player for HD content yet (as of Jul 25th 12:30PM EST) issues throughout various players are dropped frames (HD content) to no audio.

Wait a minute: Are you saying that with a single update Google has managed to render ALL HD video players non-functional on the Nexus 10?
That's hard to believe.....
And I think, that would have to be considered a significant problem.....
Oh well who wants video on a media consumption device anyway.....I'm sure Google has it all figured out...

As of (Jul 27th 8:20PM EST), MX Player Pro still does not work but:
> VLC arm7 Nightly from git 0.1.3+ works but not on HD content even with HW acceleration enabled the audio is out of sync
> I am reading that VPlayer works but have not tried it myself
> Of course Google's own Movie player works
There are other apps that no longer work with 4.3 which will need updates (e.g. full!screen, ServeStream, Superuser ... etc). All told this is a temporary blip with some devs playing catch up. Unfortunitely MX Player Pro plays a central roll in my N10 usage so that is a pain. In the mean time I'm using Plex for HD content and VLC for my transcoded NAS content.

LOL Yes VPlayer Works but in Software only mode (h264 mkv files) and just barely (video isn't very smooth) - which I suppose is a testimony to how powerful the processor in the Nexus 10 is - it can decode h264 video and audio reasonably well in software - problem is, your are maxing out the processor to do this, so just about any other process will cause the video to periodically slow - and I can only imagine what software only decoding will do to battery life when watching videos...
The built in player seems to have two modes: choppy and unwatchable or smooth and silent ( no audio ) so it appears useless as well
I suspect transcoding everything to mp4 might work, but seriously? Back to that again?
The Nexus 10 had spoiled me. Its been working so well for so long I've lost patience with all these stupid format games and transcoding - just want something that works at this point.
I'm surprised - this was touted as a minor update - sure has broken a lot of things for a minor update....
For me BSPlayer is working for 1080p mkv videos. Both VLC and MxPlayer don't work.

With root and titanium backup, I just removed the youtube app that comes with stock.
After that I was able to reinstall youtoube from the playstore, choosing version 5.3
That version plays everything perfectly in HD.

Ok, thanks for the Info I'll check that
Update,
I don't know what is it but when I play video on that Youtube app (v5.3) when I choice HD (and I know in desktop is REAL HD) is streaming poor quality like I don't know... VGA maybe
from CC to HQ is like from very poor quality to poor quality so that was not my point. I want to play 720p or 1080p videos like on desktop
Strange, because I do get pretty good quality, definitely HD (by youtube standards).
Either install flash player and firefox, or dolphin browser and dolphin jetpack or install viral youtube app. Take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579795

The viral floating youtube app doesnt support 480p or 1080p because google splits the streams in to. 720p works flawless and it hasnt any great difference with 1080p.
I forgot to ask you what version of android you have, if you have 4.2 jelly bean then adobe's flash player should work with every browser that supports flash playback (like firefox or dolphin). If you re on 4.4 kitkat though you need the hacked flash player as google removed from 4.4 some critical files that the flash player needed.

Yes i have 4.4 CM11 , like I wroted up, the haked flash work like a charm, but I switch to Dolphin browser because Boat browser do not played all hd videos on YT like I was thinking, but Dolphin does. Overall I think that Boat is beter browser than dolphin, faster, lighter and smoother but is something for something, haked flash player support Dolphin and is somthing in that flash code because videos that I can't watch on Boat are smooth playable on Dolphin.

I use firefox as a browser and if i want to watch youtube videos i switch to dolphin. Dolphin is not bad at all, its the only browser at the moment which can play flash videos in 4.4 kitkat with satisfactory results and supports plugins just like firefox.
Try Og YouTube from XDA. It's a modified Youtube APK.
There you can select the resolution like you do in the webplayer.
I'm running it and it works fine.
The only issue is, that you can't log in with your Google account.

Give viral a try. See sig
Use Flashfox or Firefox and download an add-on called youtube center.
For now I using Dolphin with jetpack and moded fplayer, and YT works like on PC no problem with 720/1080p
I dont really get it , why from the first place google messed up the resolutions.
Seriously... Why is this even a problem. Videos from the YouTube app look terrible. Sucks that we have to find a workaround.

Chromecast working really well

After failing to find a way to watch movies, Youtube, Netflix, etc, on a TV without draining my batteries, I finally picked up a Chromecast dongle. I installed the Chromecast app along with the Avia Media Player app but none of my XVID movies would play. After a few attempts at ripping a DVD into different formats, MKV video with AAC audio finally worked perfectly. I'm now in the process of re-ripping all my DVD's into MKV videos. Youtube and Netflix are working great. Chromecast's screen mirroring is still a WIP but can be enabled with the MirrorEnabler app from these forums. The screen freezes for a moment every 40 or 50 seconds, so iscreen mirroring isn't suitable for gaming yet. After installing the Cast Store app, I was surprised to see so many apps designed for Chromecast.

I don't know what was causing the problem, but the freezing has stopped. Even when it was happening it was very brief (less than a second).
Do you have a black boarder around your picture when mirroring? I don't get it when casting a video but it's there when mirroring.

Yes, that because the resolution of my tablet is not 16:9.
If I use my phone (z2), which is 1080p, there is no black border.

Netflix doesn't stream hdr

It seems even this smartphone has hdr10 screen recognized by prime video and YouTube, but Netflix Is limited to HD streaming.
Is it supposed to be like this ?
Same here.
I believe that the Netflix app needs updating to release this function.
