I am getting a message recently that a Google Now update is available but don't know how to install the update on my ICS rom. I am running Black Star X and want to get the latest Google Now update that started to show up yesterday. The play store will not let me install it and I haven't had any luck finding an APK or hack to allow the update.
Any ideas? Do I need to wait a bit and grow some patience?
Google Now was designed for Android 4.1. Its not supposed to be available for anything below that. It was ported to work on ICS devices. When you click the update button, the Play store reads that you don't have 4.1 and says it can't be installed on your device.
A new port will come. We must simply be patient.

So I recently rooted my Nexus S 4G and then returned to stock. I wanted to try the ICS rom to see how ti was then went back to Gingerbread. I found that when I unrooted, Google Wallet does not work anymore. The app just initializes and then force closes after about 15 seconds. I looked all over forums and what not to see if anyone else had the same problem and had found a solution and didnt find anything substantial enough to fix my problem. I contacted the Google Wallet team about it and they were helpful but in the end told me rooted devices couldnt be guaranteed access to the app because of security concerns.
Ive tried the obvious solutions (check if NFC is on, update the app) and nothing has worked thus far. Does anyone have any idea if this can be fixed or is my phone blocked from Google Wallet for good? I'm running stock 2.3.7. I returned to stock using a "1ClickToStock" app i found which brought me to 2.3.4 and then did OTA updates to get back to 2.3.7. In the Google Wallet app it says my OS is "sojus GWK74 Nexus S 4G release-keys" in the About section. That doesnt really sound like a Google branded OS so maybe I just got shafted on the return to stock thing I got. Regardless I dont see how being blocked out would make the app crash consistently. If anyone has any idea of how to fix this please let me know
Also, I'm new here so I'm not sure if this goes here or the Nexus S forum or somewhere else. I figured its more a Google Wallet question anyway.
I really dont understand this. I have erased and installed this ROM MULTIPLE times. I just switched from SHIFT AOSP ICS3.2.1 (DHacker) to Liquid smooth roms 3.2 release with MR4 Support. Every time i go to google play it tells me multiple apps wont work with my phone. Is there ANY way to disable google play doing this? Its the same apps, some of them i have downloaded the APK to install them but then google play wont update them and when they come out with an update ill have to go find the apk all over again which is annoying. I really dont understand i went from a CM7/AOSP based rom to another CM7/AOSP based rom and it hates it.
I had the same problem once, never figure out why. It just got fixed by itself I guess. But try rebooting the phone my best guess ...
By the way liquid 3.2 its my main Rom and daily driver too.

Go under apps and clear data
Luke
I think this has something to do with your ROM being Sense or AOSP. Try backing up your ROM, switching to sense, run GP and see if they show up there, then a fresh install of your AOSP ROM.

So I finally figured it out. Rooted a friends phone and had the same problem. Come to find out it's all resolution based. I changed the resolution back to stock, clear data, waited a little after a reboot, clear data again and I was now compatible. There should be an override.
Yeah I was going to say when you started this friend don't mess with the DPI because it breaks the market.
This doesn't belong in development it belongs in general
Hello, I've tried all of the google now zips from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29756226&postcount=2856
google now does load up and work for 1 or 2 questions but then the phone will freeze and either reboot or lockup, I've checked the file permissions and everything is correct, I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this on their ICS Atrix 4G, mine is unlocked from Bell Canada running CWM and Turl's most recent CM9
I've had the same problem with Google Now on ICS and have tried everything before finally upgrading to Jelly Bean (I can't live without Project Butter anymore). All those different builds, each one having different issues, right? I have always thought it was just me, but now I see I am not alone... Or maybe it's just us...
Anyway, every single one of my attempts to make it work have failed.
I do have a solution for you though: Maluuba (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ce=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=maluuba)
It's an app available for free on the Google Play Store. It's a bit different from Google Now, it's more like a Siri alternative.

Hey guys,
I recently got pushed the OTA update for the Galaxy S3 on Sprint. I didn't notice anything different until I went to use my Andy-83 app. I'm sure some people are familiar with this app, the TI-83 emulator thing.
It's now blacked out and unusable. I even uninstalled and reinstalled and it's BLACKED OUT! Must have been the update doing this.
Curious to know is there a way around this, I miss using this app, as I am a student. Also, does anyone have other apps with the same issue?
Sidenote- I know rooting is ultimate solution, but I really dont have the time, expertise, and effort for that right now.
Thanks.
Yup, some apps might no be compatible with the latest android version (or your current updated version).
Sucks, but its like that, wait for an app update, try and contact the developer.
Basically they let you watch cartoons and anime on your mobile devices. They were great. But a few weeks ago they got updated to version 8.0. Ever since then whenever I try to start the app, it force closes. It didn't do that on the previous 7.8 versions. But unfortunately I can't go back and use those because when u start them, I get a message telling me to update. And there's no option to dismiss the update. So yeah. I'm pretty disappointed over this. I've been missing my shows like dragon ball super and pokemon xyz. I contacted the developers about this with an email three weeks ago and never heard back from them. Does anyone here have a fix for this?
You can get the apps from here.

Update!!
Okay so after weeks of searching, I've found a solution for the app toonmania. You need a modified version of the app. That's at version 7.8 and doesn't check for the update at startup. I found one here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/MovieHDLite/comments/5cqwh6/as_requested_toonmania_v78_adfree_mod_by_ries/
It also removed the ads. It works perfectly. But now I need one for animania. I don't have a reddit account. So I have no way of contacting that person to ask to also create a modified version of animania. Perhaps someone here would be able to?
Also you need version 7.8 of animania if you're going to try to modify it. Because version 8.0 doesn't work at all. You can find that specific version easily by searching google.
Found it!

Thanks byron
This saved me the frustration.
May be there would be modded 8.0 that doesn't crash.

First I've ever heard of these apps, thanks! :highfive:
Oh, you guys are welcome. But you should thank the reddit guy who took the time to modify these.
So any solution for Animania guys?
You can get older versions of those apps from the site Aptoide.
But if install older version than 8.0 after start information for uptade downoload, and cant refuse it
Cartoon app
Have used toonmania. It's pretty good, but not as useful as watch cartoon online. I had that app from apknite. For me, it's even better than 9Anime.
