My light sensor is broken... i adjust brightness to full but my screen isn't brighty whyyyy?
?
Maybe your light sensor is broken. Either way, you don't make two threads about the same issue.

Hello,
If I look in the sensors section of "Android System Info", it doesn't list a light sensor (I believe that the light sensor is used to dim the screen when it's dark). The thing is, I've seen the screen dim by itself before. If I put my hand on top of the phone (where the proximity sensor is located... I think...), the screen dims. If I remove my hand, the screen gets brighter.
Does the X10 have a light sensor or not? Is it possible that the light sensor is "hardwired" to the screen without "passing" through the OS to dim the screen?
The light sensor on my X10 is to the left of the earpiece. To the right are the proximity sensor and further right is the notification led.

Since you can disable it in the settings, i don't think it's hardwired.

Good point, I don't understand why android system info cannot see it though. Same goes for the service menu, it seems it's the only sensor in there that cannot be tested.

Hello guys,
My proximity / light sensor is not behaving correctly for past few days. Now whenever i dial a call, the proximity sensor turns the LCD off and it does not turn it on until the call ends somehow. It seems to be that the sensor is unable to sense the incoming light. Also the little red LED of the sensor stays on for very long, even after the call.
Also, the screen's brightness does not change when i move from low light to high light areas (and vice versa).
I have jokersax's CM9 build 0.6.1 installed with the built in kernel. (Which is probably the CM9 kernel too).
I suspect the proximity sensor is faulty. And also that this is a hardware problem. Now the question I'd like to ask is does anyone know what parts do i need to replace in order to get it back working. What would I tell the repair part vendors to send me ?
Also, do you agree that this is a hardware problem??
OR do you think, it is the ROM may be or the way I've installed it??

If you have face unlock enabled then disable it and try it again.

cuz i have a dark screen without the light sensor
so it's better to enable it?

Usually, the light sensor is used for adapting the screen/display light/brightness in relation to the environment light/brightness.
At least when you have enabled auto-brightness in menu "Settings" > "Display" > "Auto-Brightness".
So, the screen brightness will be reduced in the darkness to safe battery power.
If you have disabled the light sensor, you should also disable auto-brightness and set a fixed birghtness level.
Good luck !

I'm trying to figure out normal (functional) proximity sensor response to light.
(originally posted this to meanbean because I downloaded meanbean specifically because it mentions the proximity fix.
Would somebody who doesn't have a problem with their proximity sensor try the following:
1) Use whatever program you like that displays current proximity distance. I've been using Proximity Sensor Finder.
2) Confirm that near and far are reporting correctly (it's binary, but reports as 9cm versus 0cm).
3) Expose the phone to strong light (e.g. put it near a light bulb).
4) Remove from light source
--> Does the proximity sensor now report NEAR even when there's no object near the sensor?
I really appreciate your testing this and letting me know here or by DM.
Thanks so much!
Have you tried this:

[MOD] [CM10] Proximity Sensor Fix
Even though it's for cm10 it might help you... Good Luck!

Hello,
Has anyone noticed a promixity (maybe ambient light) sensor issue? Often (more in the dark) I can see a weak red light blinking right where there is the proximity sensor(it stays there if automatic brightness is on). I tried disabling and closing one app per time but it seems more like a software bug...
Anyone else?
Sony Xperia X F5121
Hello ! Yes! (sorry for my language I'm French).
Tonight, after charging my phone at 100%, I have seen a red little light in the '' capter '' a the right (for automatic luminosity I think). It was a big bug who during ~ 30 minutes. And I have lost 20% of battery, I think, cause to this bug.. Do you already have the bug today?

@Mr High Tech @kistigun @kalel29
Are you kidding me guys?:laugh:
It's not a red light.... It's barely visible because it's an Infrared Sensor Infrared light is usually visible only in very dark conditions.
Hint that will make your day - when it's dark and you barely see it, try pointing a camera at it! It flashes white now, doesn't it.

more than wanting to know what it is, i think they want to understand why; why does the proximity sensor stay on?
i had this question too, before updating to the latest firmware (.292). after that, it seems the "problem" doesn't occur anymore, but i'm not that sure. i'll have to double check.
however, do some of you use "Smart backlight control" feature?

Smart backlight control makes use of the accelerometer of the phone. Keeps the screen on by detecting movement. Neat feature.
Smart call handling on the other hand uses the proximity sensor. Also the style cover preinstalled software. And of course Call handling uses the proximity sensor.
I'm using a modified version of Gravity Screen for pocket mode. Proximity sensor flashes all the time in order to turn the screen on and off when it's in or out of the pocket. Also I use the proximity sensor so that the screen won't turn on when it's in the pocket - like when a call comes in and I don't want to accidentally answer.
One thing you should know about the proximity sensor is that it uses a crazy low amount of power (0.18mA). Now the software that uses the sensor might have many wakelocks but we also need features so it's a small price to pay haha. Also if you're planing on using gravity screen (which is a cool app), you can always add a on/off widget.
There's really nothing to worry about - none of those features/apps I mentioned register on power consumption.
