charging issue - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just noticed that my battery still drains when im playing a game while the phone is charging(plugged into an outlet). i'm using siyah's kernel. should i increase the charging mah? it's currently at stock setting 1000mah.
im on ARHD 2.3.0 (ics). i never noticed this problem before while browsing the net etc. just recently, i installed a few games and started playing on my phone.

the same problem happened to me too what worked for me was that i took out the battery and reinserted it and i also change the charging mah to 1200 (i'm also using siyah kernel)

This is not a problem just for you. This is normal..
Just don't play heavy CPU and GPU usage games while you charging.
Changing mah is risky a bit. You warned..

Definitely agreeing with oulouloul on this one ay, Changing your mah can result in over heating your battery and damaging your phone,
Is there a option in the game to turn down graphics maybe?
i normally look for that just to save some battery anyway

interesting. it never happened on my sensation when playing GTA3. i guess the quadcore is too powerful

[Q] Draw Something = Huge Battery Drain

Any Draw Something users having the same problem as myself?
Currently on Hydrog3n rom but I have tried others. Usually charge my phone via laptop but when playing Draw Something phone still discharges faster than its charging.
I haven't noticed any battery drain while playing that on my sgs2 running cm9

Doesn't affect my battery whatsoever. Must be your phone buddy.

On CM9 it cause a huge battery drain here too. If I use it I loose close to 1% per minute
Using sensation rom no batt drain at all
Mod or Die
change kernel.
speedmod look the best
htc hd2, hyperdroid (fikret) - i'm also experiencing a huge battery drain when playing draw something :/
Am also on CM9 with Nexus One (BCM ICS). Draw something is indeed drawing lots of battery power. Phone gets immensely hot. Running the Tiamat kernel from March 14
No battery drain on neat ROM

How fast does your drain I play draw something alot, I don't seem to notice it to drain that fast.
I have the same issue here with a LG optimus 2x, draw something consumes all the battery in 2 hours or less. (with stock rom)
Try Different Kernel
Speedmod, Siya or NEAK

Heat after gaming?

After how long does it get warm when you play games like NOVA 3 and such?
For me it does after like 10-20min which is somewhat short to me, but then again, I've never owned a proper flagship phone such as the s3 before.
My phone gets heated up to 47°c after 20mins of riptide.
What's the temperature your phone heats up to? I suggest you use badass battery monitor to check the temperature

Your phone does what? Are you overclocking or something? My S2 doesn't get to 47°C after 1h of NOVA 3 while still being overclocked(Both the CPU and GPU).And the S3 is supposed(And I think proven too) to produce less heat than the S2.
My S3 gets a bit warmer too. Think it will be fixed in subsequent rom releases. Same thing happened with my S2 when I had it; it went away eventually

My s3 barely produces any heat compared to my s2,that thing was burning the flesh in my hands... Maybe that's the reason nova 3 runs sluggish on my phone but not to anyone else?

Has stock roms ever fixed the heat issues through updates in the past (on other phones ofc), or do I have to root and flash a custom rom to decrease the heat?
My s3 also get very hot from both sides after playing 15 mins of shadowgun. I m using stock rom. And yea here temperature is 42C in pakistan lahore!!!

I can't find any details for the Exynos chip in the S3, but afaik most ARM devices have a Tmax (maximum CPU temperature) of 50-something (58?) degree Celsius.
So if it's already 42 outside, you can expect the system to be 52 as air-cooling is terribly inefficient, especially in hot dry air.
When you fire up some games it will thus go above it's threshold and automatically reduce it's performance to keep itself from being damaged due to overheating.

[Q] heavy battery drain while browsing

Hello.
I have a huge battery drain while browsing on my sgs2 running CM10 and recently siyah 5 RC1 (before original cm10 kernel). It is hard to find threads like that, there is always talk about wakelocks and other drain issues. So I wrote a new one.
The battery drain surfing the internet over wifi is huge compared to other things I use my phone for. Example: Streaming a 720p TV show over wireless and watching it on MX player drains about 3x less battery. How is that possible?? I have no problems with wakelocks, the screen on time is usually around 3-4h, BUT, only when using rss and other apps - not touching the browser. There seem to be only a small difference between CM10 original, Firefox and Chrome, perhaps Firefox drains the least, though the power is draining so fast that its hard to compare.
So, is there a way to somehow limit the usage of the CPU or/and GPU while surfing, if this is the problem. Or does anybody have another solution.
As I said, no wakelocks and the battery lasts about 2 days if using apps for getting info-news... + only a little surfing using a browser. I had the same issue on CM9, Slim ROM and others.
thanks
Try to find a thread that has battery tweaks. You can try under clocking to 1000mhz or even 800.

It is hard to find a thread like my question. As I said my battery life is just fine. I tried many different setups (governors, shedulers, kernel, CPU and GPU steps and voltages). What I can not understand is how watching a 720p TV show streamed over wifi consumes 3x less power as opposed to only surfing the net. While browsing it seems the battery percentage is dropping every minute.
Why doesn't that bother anyone else?? I am sure its not only me. And as I said, I am happy with 1200mhz, cause the phone runs smooth and it lasts about 2 days. I only wish net surfing wouldn't take that much battery. It's definitely to much!
There has to be an answer to that problem. Is there a way to limit only the browser rendering to a specific CPU/GPU clock...?

Yes, with SetCPU.

/Q/ CPU damaged?

Hey,
I'm using my S2 with CM10.1, and sometimes I have redraws when sweeping through pages in Trebuchet, and when I play games like Zombie Highway I have FPS drops sometimes. I never have used my device with overclocking or undervolting. Just one time used Siyah kernel with higher GPU freqs. Is there a chance that my CPU is damaged or bad? Btw I'm experiencing huge battery drain, but I'm using extended Samsung's battery with 2000mAh. I have taken that battery back to shop, because thought it was wrong, they replaced it to brand new, and the problem is the same. I'm surfing in internet with my S2 switched to 2G network and after 10minutes of surfing I see 5% battery came down... Usualy I charge it two times per day, which is very annoying. My screen brightness is 40%. What's the problem? If this problem will be in future I will probably switch to iPhone.

Here it is.

Are you on the latest nightly? If you are and you do face the problem, make a backup and return to stock ROM to check if the problem persists. There have been a few complaints regarding games in the official discussion thread, but should be fixed soon.

[Q] Phone Life?

Hey guys.
i was wondering if someone could shed some light on the EVOs battery life and their experience with it i am currently running a custom rom but it has stock kernal and it runs relatively smooth and just fine but my battery life is always unpredictable. sometimes it will get very hot and last only a few hours while other times it will stay cool and last up to 2 days (extended life battery equipped in phone). so i was wondering if any of you had either a great battery saving and monitor app your prefer to use or some sort of task killer or something of the sorts or just tips and etc in general to help me combat my short charge issue.
thanks in advance!
P.S. i also do about the same thing everyday give or take a few smaller sized apps and always close recent apps regularly.
In general, the battery sucks.
But try greenify, it seems to help me

the OEM battery did indeed suck but this battery does well as long as the phone doesnt get really hot (like at least 90+ degrees farenheit) than it will last for days on end no matter what i do which is kind of strange.
Indeed, the battery does suck, and greenify does help, but try this battery....
I'm running it and it slightly increases the life by abt 3-4 hrs....
edit: since i'm new to xda, i can't post links, but it's called ec technonology
just search "htc evo 3d battery" on amazon and this should be the second result

yeah i got the extended battery for mine and i have not been disappointed but when it all of a sudden gets hot it just destroys the battery. i will have to try out greenify and see if it helps me out!
thanks for the input guys i really appreciate it
same here
Im using a 1900mah battery and i just use kernel tuner to underclock both CPU cores to 900mhz,the 2D GPU to 200mhz and 3d to 266mhz, and then I disable vsync..and I get amazing battery (I took my phone off the charger at 78%

i tried the underclocking using kernal tuner but my limited knowledge of kernal tuner made it a little hard so i set to the conserative and powersaver preset a few times but it was too laggy and ran very choppy which i didnt like but on xondemand it works smooth and gives me reasonable battery life so long as it doesnt get hot. im on a 3500mah battery though. and my screen birghtness is about 1/4 of the way up.
