Restore Problems - HTC Amaze 4G

Hello
I've done searches and found threads with people with SIMILAR problems to what I have, and have tried to follow the steps detailed in those threads.
However, I'm at a point where I have a phone that is stuck at the HTC logo boot screen, and cannot do a factory restore, flash a rom or anything, because I think the phone isn't even able to mount the hard drive.
I'd really like some help here, because there's no way this issue is going to be covered under warranty and my mistake will probably cost me a lot of money.
I'll try and explain as best as I can everything that's happened, and how things stand now. A word of warning, I had never flashed a rom or done anything like this on an Android before (used to jailbreak my iPod Touch, so I've done similar things in the past), and I'm not an expert by any means on the matter.
To begin, my phone is an HTC Amaze 4G on the Wind mobile network. It's now unlocked and is "s-on"
I unlocked the phone yesterday using the HTC All in one "noob proff" tool kit by hasoon
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493905
I followed the steps and unlocked the boot loader. My phone worked fine. I then installed the 4EXT recovery. The phone still worked fine I think. Then I wanted to install the Rebirth rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950777
The "Hasoon" thread had mentioned that you needed to take the boot.img file and place it in the kernel folder, so I extracted the rebirth 1.0.zip file and put the boot.img in that folder. Then I pressed Flash Kernel. I guess I did something terribly wrong, because after this I couldn't boot my phone up again (I think it got past the HTC screen and went to the Wind logo instead, but froze there).
I held Power + down and tried to do a factory reset, but ever since then, the phone hasn't been able to read the internal storage it seems
If I use 4EXT and do a factory restore, it says:
"Formatting Cache using make_ext4fs...
Done
Formatting Data using make_ext4fs...
Done
E:Unable to mount '/emmc'
Updating partition details...
E:Unable to mount '/emmc'
E:Unable to mount '/emmc'
E:Unable to mount internal storage"
Failed
An internal storage wipe doesn't work, because it can't read the storage.
A system wipe works, but then factory reset still doesn't work.
I downloaded the stock wind Rom and exe file from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617644
Transfered the ROM to Sd card, named it PH85IMG.zip, it couldn't flash the rom and boot up. I tried using the .exe file as many said it would work, and that didn't work.
Now my phone is unresponsive to that program, and I can't use Hasoon's tool to relock the bootloader either, because I guess I did something that managed to make the problem worse, and both programs don't really seem to be able to recognize my phone.
....
I really hope someone can help me out here and straighten me out, I really don't want to have to buy a new Nexus 4 just because of this... I love the HTC camera too much.
Thank you very much.

I don't think so, but I just read something about only needing to do it one time within 4EXT? I just don't want to shoot myself any further in the foot... Thread is about "S-ON" HTC sensation, but I think the 4EXT should be more or less the same, no?
Edit: I did a google search, and it seems like I might need to disable fastboot in the Android settings before I can enable smartflash...the problem is that I can't get past the boot screen.

Enabling smartflash will allow 4ext to flash the kernel so u don't have to extract the boot IMG and flash it manually. After you enable it, do a full wipe (format everything except sd) then try reflashing the Rom. If it still doesn't work try a different Rom like NRGz.

I appreciate everything your time thus far.
I am now inside 4EXT recovery, and I went to Tools, but instead of a button saying "enable Smartflash," it says disable, which leads me to assume mine was already enabled...
If I press choose zip from SD card, it says "Can't mount internal_sdcard". My PH85IMG.zip is on an external SD card, and it won't allow me to select it. If I select apply update.zip, I can choose my external SD card from the menu, but it says "confirm installation of /sdcard/update.zip", and my file is not named update.zip, so I'm assuming this is not how you do it.
If you can let me know where I might be able to go from here, that would be awesome.
EDIT: Okay, so I formatted the internal storage and it would mount. Then I went to install and selected PH85IMG.zip from my external SD, and I get this:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
file_getprop: failed to stat "/system/build.prop": No such file or directory
E:Error in /internal_sdcard/ext_sd/PH85IMG.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
If my phone is beyond help, I'm willing to accept that.

U don't want to flash a ph85img in recovery. U have to flash that through the bootloader and the bootloader has to be locked to do it.

here's a way to return to stock RUU, you need the all-in-one toolkit from hasoon2000
download this file Here and rename it to PH85IMG.zip (this file is for ICS) the older one for GB didnt work for me
use the "Relock Bootloader" command on hasoon's toolkit to relock your bootloader (i received a security warning when doing so, but still worked)
place the PH85IMG.zip file on the root of your SD Card
turn off device and remove the battery. Reinsert the battery then simultaneously hold the volume down and power buttons (to boot fastboot)
Fastboot will detect the image file on your external storage. After it loads, accept the "update" - this will revert you to stock (including recovery and radio).

I have used this file before and done what you had said, but I've had no luck in the past.
However, I redownloaded it, named it PH85IMG.zip (file name PH85IMG, .zip is extension). And placed it on the root of my Internal SD card, not my external (I'm putting it on there right now to try again).
For the record, to put it on my phone, I had to use 4EXT toggle USB mode. But upon start up of the program, it said "unable to mount /sd card" or whatever else it said. So I formatted the drive, and then it was able to mount again.
There used to be a blue bar that crawled up the right, followed by a yellow one that would say "checking", and then it would just remain at the fastboot screen.
Now however, although the bootloader is relocked (no security warning this time), it does not open the file, no blue bar appears, nor a yellow one.

So again, once I put the file on my EXTERNAL sd card, the blue bars come up. Again, they say checking PH85DIAG.zip (I can't remember the extension), and then it checks PH85IMG.zip
Then it takes me right back to the screen where I can navigate, and that's as far as I've ever gotten.
Edit: Now when I boot the phone up without pressing power + vol down, the phone goes straight into fastboot

you're suppose to relock the bootloader before you try to flash the RUU or the phone wont update, and it takes awhile... once you relock the phone and boot into the bootloader it will scan your SD card for different files, when it fines the "PH85IMG.zip" file it will scan it and begin to reinstall the stock rom, it takes awhile, once its finished scanning it will ask you if you wish to install this update.. just use the volume button to select yes and use the power for ok

Okay, so I'm trying this again. Phone says "Relocked" "Security Warning"
It's loading the PH85IMG.zip with a blue bar. This takes about a min.
Now it's checking PH85IMG.zip with a yellow bar.
It's back to the main screen, and doesn't appear to be doing anything, I don't see anything that says "Installing." or "updating." I'm going to leave my phone alone for an hour or so and hopefully something changes.
If this is what I'm supposed to do, then let me know. If something isn't working right, then also let me know. It was doing the same stuff yesterday, so I'm not optimistic.
Thanks for your time and help
EDIT: For the record, whenever I have used Hasoon's tool to relock my phone, in the terminal window I've noticed something about it saying "failed" or "... too many times" (I'm sorry, I can't remember exactly.) It says that it's relocked though, so I'm not sure if something went wrong....
And for what it's worth, whenever I used the .exe for Wind that I found alongside the RUU, it hasn't worked, and sometimes it couldn't even recognize my phone.

So about 45 min later or so, and still nothing happening on the screen

flash stock recovery back on to your phone, run ph85img, and watch it load.

Edit: Okay, so I downloaded recovery.img from a location on this forum, then used Hasoon's toolkit to flash my custom recovery and then relocked the bootloader. Then I waited for the ph85img.zip to load and check, but I still never got a screen that said "accept update." So I pressed recovery, and the phone booted into a different screen this time. Green arrows, but then it shows a phone icon with a red exclamation in a triangle.
This is possibly looking at least a bit more hopeful for me... I'll try factory reset again and see if that works.
Edit 2: Okay so factory reset brings up the same green icon, with a loading bar. However, the loading bar doesn't load, it just hangs there, and then the phone restarts. This leads me to believe that it has something to do with the "unable to mount internal sd card" or whatever it had said before.
Any further suggestions?

When using the .exe, both relocked and unlocked, it says "failed to connect phone to USB" or something. I'm not sure if there's anything that I haven't tried yet.

Need Help: Rooting 1.40 - 1/2 way complete :NOW COMPLETE:

I was helping a buddy root his Evo 3D today. We managed to get S-off, but couldn't get Clockwork mod to install. Later I realized that his PC was not recognizing his 3vo. Installed the HTC drivers, still same problem. Installed HTC Sync, still the same. Now I can't do anything to his phone.
To make matters worse, he can't surf online. The phone boots up just fine, and the boot loader is unlocked, but this is where we currently stand.
Try to flash TWRP:
[RECOVERY] [EVO3D] TeamWin Recovery Project
Just dl the .zip file, rename it to PG86IMG.zip, put it on the root of the SD card. Then boot into bootloader (either through adb or take battery out, put back in and hold power + vol down). Then once it loads into bootloader (not fastboot) it will auto detect the .zip and ask you to update. Press vol up to say yes, wait for it to finish.
Now you'll have a working recovery, you can flash other already rooted ROMs using the flash zip utility in the recovery or if you just want to root the default ROM you have to flash this zip file with the 'flash zip' under recovery.
Is there supposed to be a root folder, or do I just simply place the main directory.
We placed the .zip file, after it was renamed into the main directory of the 3vo. Booted into HBOOT, but nothing happened. We were not prompted, just sat there in the HBOOT screen.

Weird, for some reason, going directly through the link that you provided worked. So now we have twrp on the phone. The 3vo recognized it, updated, but now still no phone or internet use.
Do I use twrp as a recovery? If so how? Should there be a twrp app now? Or do I just go back through HBOOT and select recovery from there?

This might not help but try wiping the Dalvik Cache first. If that doesnt help, do a full wipe (factory reset/data wipe), install the ROM again and try that.
Theres no app that will show so go through HBOOT, select recovery (it will look like it is rebooting but it isn't - it is loading the recovery), then choose the backup/restore option.
Alternatively if the ROM you are using has 4 way reboot you can use that to boot directly into recovery.
EDIT: yes twrp is recovery.

I would like to thank everyone that helped.
Switched PCs. Installed HTC drivers on 2nd PC, worked. Then went through the same root process. All done. I only with that veterans would also inform new root users that 'Error 16' will happen once the phone is rooted. All I had to do was call the provider and all was squared away.
Got one for you now. I was able to get my buddy's phone back. Seems that he can't remember his gmail PW. He swears that the PW he is giving me is correct, but he can't get in, not even through a PC. This blows, as he cannot use the market without a valid GM account. Not even getting a new GM account solves the problem. So I did some research and it seems that the original GM account associated wtih the phone cannot associate anymore, and trying to get a new GM account will not solve the issue. So if PW is incorrect, I'm assuming that the only thing that can be done is to reset the phone back to factory. My question is, doing so will cause me to update the phone to the newest version 1.50+. In doing so, no more root.
Are there any other options?
Going into setings and doing a factor reset doesn't update your phone to the 1.50 hboot and you don't lose root. Just flash a ROM that's updated to the latest ota I'm on clean ROM it runs perfect smooth as butter and don't forget to nandroid

phone wont boot anymore, help needed

When i was trying to boot into recovery mode it failed and it gave a superuser error. At this moment i had leedroid rom evo 3d gsm that is s-off. When i still had stock rom i never had this error but it seems like it was there all the time with the leedroid rom. Well so i was trying to boot into recovery. Tried it with power button and volume down button at same time, but this was failing. So i did it with rom manager. I used rom manager before when i installed leedroids rom. But now it didnt boot into recovery. I tried installing superuser again but it didnt seem to make any difference. with rootchecker i checked if i had root acces but it seemed i lost root acces :S. after retrying a couple of times my phone didnt boot back to the leedroid rom. I was trying a lot of things, with and without sd and sim. After about 20 reboots i tried power and volume down to go to bootloader and know it loaded. At bootloader start it loads some things and i saw no image blalbla dont really know what it meant. I tried to go to recovery but it wont boot, i get a white screen with htc and wont load anything. I tried all other options in bootloader too, to check if anything works but even a factory reset failed.
For me it looked like somehow my rom is f*cked and now i cant go to recovery mode somehow. I have rom on my sd so if i could go to recovery i could still flash. Does anyone know how i still might get to recovery mode or is there another way to still flash another rom. Maybe there are some people who can tell me more about leedroids rom, are there more people who got trouble with root acces?
anyone who might be able to help plz let me know, im so frustrated right now because i cant use my phone, i even need to think about a way to wake me up this morning because i always used my phone for alarm
That is a very easy to fix problem. First, download Clockworkmod recovery for your device (evo 3D GSM) or another recovery.
CWM 5.2.0 Shooteru: http://www.mediafire.com/?5kdr0c7xux2c64p
After download/finding the recovery, rename it to PG86DIAG. (or whatever it tries to scan for in bootloader. If its 2 things, it is the bottom one)
Place the file on your SD card somehow. (in your case you would need to take out the SD card and put it in another phone/adapter)
Boot into bootloader with volume down + power and it should scan for the file. When it asks if you want to do the update, press yes. After the recovery is installed, press power to reboot.
Do a battery pull while you are on the splash screen. Reboot back into bootloader with vol down + power and click on recovery. Wipe everything and flash the rom again. Reboot and you should be able to load the ROM with root and everything.
thx, im so happy to here your solution. Know lets search for my sd adapter, i know its somewhere . I will let you know later if it has worked

You're welcome! I'll be watching the thread.
Oke i did what you said but when i boot into bootloader nothing has changed. It doesnt ask if i want to update anything. And if i go to recovery and try to boot it keeps hanging at the white screen with htc
btw, you said this:after download/finding the recovery, rename it to PG86DIAG. (or whatever it tries to scan for in bootloader.
Do you mean it might be other name i have to make it? How do i know this?

It is probably a different name.
When you boot into bootloader, it scans for 2 files and says not found, right?
The second file it scans for is the one you want to rename it to.
hmke, ye it scans for files but its going fast so cant see it very well. I see about 5 things get scanned
oke first thing it scanned is called PG86DIAG.zip, 2nd is PG86DIAG.nbh, 3th is PG86IMG.zip, 4th is PG86IMG.nbh, 5th is PG86IMG.tar, 6th is PG86IMG.aes, 7th is PG86IMG.enc
All this things are scanned and then it says no image
From what I can read if you lost root then you are s-on on the bootloader right? if so installing recovery through bootloader wont work... check if you have S-on or S-off on bootloader if you have s-on you will need to use a official update to restore your phone...

Do PG86IMG. Also, if it says S-On at the top of the bootloader, you will need to get S-Off with revolutionary again.

From what I can read if you lost root then you are s-on on the bootloader right? if so installing recovery through bootloader wont work... check if you have S-on or S-off on bootloader if you have s-on you will need to use a official update to restore your phone...

No im still s-off, but when my phone was less ****ed as it is now and i could still boot normaly, i already had some strange things with leedroid rom. superuser never seems to be working well. i couldnt give root acces, it gave an error when i try. even through root chekker it says no root, but i thought that might have something to do with superuser.

Instead of renaming to PG86DIAG, rename to PG86IMG and see if that works.

do you mean name the file PG86IMG and not PG86DIAG?
lol your answer came faster
Oke still no difference, but it is chekking for a .zip file right? Im not sure if its .zip right now, is this the reason why its failing?
Ummmmm I dont see any other choice but this... you can follow this tutorial to get your phone working...
Code:

You are going to need to revert back to stock
I had the same problem a month back and was able to fix it.
Also don't worry if you can still get to the boot loader its fixable.

So it acts as if there is no .zip at all? Like it says "No image found"?
Double check if its a zip and the file is named properly. If it doesn't recognize it, there is a problem with your SD card/bootloader.
Oke when i put the .zip in a clockworkmod folder it didnt see it but now it shows parsing behind the PG86DIAG.zip and the PG86DIAG.img says no image or wrong image. All other thing still say no image
I tried the .zip you uploaded and now it could load the image , trying to flash now

I see what you're doing wrong. Don't put the zip in a clockworckmod folder. Put it on the root of your sd card.
(just directly on the sd card)

Good catch on that one.
If you don't put it directly on the root of your sd card then the boot loader will not be able to find the zip and flash it.
Oke thx, i finally booted into recovery . I first had to delete the .zip again because it was trying to update again when i didnt. Im so happy now , couldnt done this without your help so i will push the thx button few times^^

CleanRom Pro Edition

I tried posting this in the actual thread but It said I had to come here for help...
I flashed this ROM and went through with updating the Boot.img all fine, however every time I boot into the Bootloader, it attempts to "update" the boot.img.
After Installing this rom I tried to install a sense 4.0 one, and I couldn't get back to the recovery because the bootloader wouldn't let me do anything but update the boot.img.
Any idea why it tries to update everytime?
Delete the PH98IMG.zip file from your SD Card.....
I was able to boot into AmonRa however my phone gets a black screen after the HTC splash screen.

That wasn't your original problem, what else have you done to the phone...
I'd suggest booting in Recovery, mount USB, remove the PH98IMG.zip from the root of SD, wipe and start over.
When you're all done, you'll have a new PH98IMG.zip on the root of SD, delete it.

Hey thanks for the help...
I removed the zip like you said, then I flashed CleanRom again, because my earlier Nandroid wasn't working. I'm booting into CleanRom now. I'll let ya know if its working...
Thanks a ton for the help! Got it booted and everything seems to be working alright...
I came from a DX, so rooting, flashing, etc was much much easier. I thought I read through the directions for rooting/flashing the rezound but I guess I'll have to reread.
Again, thanks for your help.
No problem.

Urgently need help. Would appreciate it very much.

Dear all,
Here is the situation. I decided to root my evo 3d gsm (hboot 1.5++) today, and all went well until I flashed a rom (virtuous). Now whenever I boot on the phone, it shows me this "V" logo and loads for more than 10minutes or so. I can go into my bootloader, but when I attempt to do anything from my clockworkmod recovery, when I press the power button to select different options, I get blank menus and I can attempt nothing. I am an unexperienced user, and can anyone out there who is experience render some assistance? I am at my wits end...
Thanks
Well I'm not too familier with the gsm version... the "V", is that part of the boot animation? and does it just loop over and over? maybe try reflashing clockworkmod and re wipe and install?

The "V" is the part of the boot animation. And the "V" just glows again and again, yeah so i guess it loops. Why I am so worried is because I saw a window of my HTC sense booting to life earlier on, but I saw the words "Unfortunately... has... crashed..." but it was very brief, and after which the animation began again. Is it because I waited for too short a period of time? (around 15 minutes or so) or because it really boot looped? And how do I reflash clockwordmod when I can't access my phone and sd card? Will appreciate your kind help...
I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes for something too boot, and it should really never take longer than that. Can you tell me the steps you took to flash the rom(not to root it). and could you give some more info about your phone? are you s-on or s-off? And what do you mean by blank menus in clockwork mod? Do you know how to boot into your hboot menu? from there you can boot to fastboot and install the recovery from your pc. connect your phone to the pc while in fastboot mode and get your recovery.img file and type the following command from the command line:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /path/to/<recovery>.img

Ok, here is the infomation. I live in Singapore, which is a part of Southeast Asia, my phone is the GSM version with HBoot 1.530007(i cant remember the decimal placing).
I firstly used HTCDEV to unlock my bootloader, which went well, then I went to evohacks to get the conventional rooting method, which went well too. And it all came when I was careless, and I accidentally forgot to wipe the data and cache of my evo before i flashed the rom. And now it gets stuck in the "V" logo loading phase. If the hboot menu is the menu where I have to press the powerbutton and the volume down button then yes. I can also get into my recovery, but the problem is that it shows a blank menu in (clockwordmod specifically), thus rendering whatever me helpless. i have downloaded the PG86IMG.zip and Im waiting for it to finish. So how do I go about solving this matter? This phone is my only asset and I really want to save it...
Blank menu as in for example when I click "Reboot", or "Factory Reset" or perhaps "Restore" in the CWD Recovery, it just shows me a blank menu with the CWD logo in the background, with no options or drop down words or whatsoever. And the sad thing is that I did not make any recoveries at all.... So I plucked my sd card out, and now im waiting to finish downloading the PG86IMG.zip to put on my sd and into my phone, and flash it to revert it back to stock and stuff..... I hope this works
Ok, well as long as you can get to either hboot or recovery you'll be ok. I would recommend flashing 4ext recovery, as it has never failed me and seems to help others. here is the link to it. Download that and pull the recovery.img out and flash that from your pc with the command I gave above. It sounds like you are either pushing the wrong button in the recovery or it might just be messing up for some reason. Is it the touchscreen version of clockworkmod?

The recovery is the free version, so it shouldn't be the touch one. May I ask, what do you mean by recovery.img? I emptied my SD card so that I can put the PG86IMG.zip into it later. Any more specific steps you can give? Sorry but Im really a newb in the android world

The recovery.img is the image that the phone flashes to install the recovery. If you look in the zip I posted in the link you'll see that file in there. the one I posted is the 4ext touch recovery. you can manually flash that file to your phone in case you can't get it to boot(like your case). I would suggest trying the 4ext recovery I linked, or maybe try to boot to recovery again and see if its touch based. Were the menus working when you flashed the virtuous rom, and then it stopped working?
OH stupid me. Whoops. Actually I CAN navigate. Ive been pressing the wrong button all this while. I pressed the power instead of the camera, which is the select button. Whoops. seems like CMD was working after all. sorry...
ok but still, can I just attempt to install the RUU file I downloaded in the CWD menu? Will it work? Will my phone be reverted back to its original unrooted state? I saw someone say it could...
There is something bugging me though. My SD card is now completely empty. Will it have any negative effects on what i do?
I thought something like that was happening, glad you got it sorted. Try to wipe everything and reinstall your virtious rom again first. yes the PG86IMG.zip will return you back to complete stock, recovery and all. So if you do that you might have to re-root all over again.

So theoretically flashing the ROM shouldn't take more than... around 15 minutes?
correct
Its now 10 minutes and so far my phone had made 2 major vibrations. So if this doesn't work, can i just wipe all the data again, put the PG86IMG.zip in my phone, go to recovery to install it, and then I just press reboot right?

Sometimes sense roms can take a bit, but if its vibrating than it should be working. if not just put the PG86IMG.zip on the root of your sdcard and boot into hboot and let it do its thing. no need to wipe data for that.

[Q] Did I just brick my phone by messing with framework-htc-res.apk??

Sorry for the double post, but I was afraid this old thread I posted in originally may not get attention since the subject line is not quite on point.
My original post is here --
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42069716&postcount=49
I guess since I can still get to my bootloader and theoretically hit factory reset, I may not really be bricked. But I'd really love to find a fix other than factory reset. At the moment -- when I try to boot to the phone, it goes through the initial white HTC screen and then just stops on the Android eye screen (like this http://static1.businessinsider.com/...-is-what-the-boot-up-animation-looks-like.jpg )
Anyone??
Many many thanks from a dumbass newb.

I don't want to offer a fix because I'm sure someone has a better way, but have you thought about just flashing a new ROM at this point? Cyanogenmod, Venom, Avatar, Pacman rom now. Some good choices.

I was thinking about that, but couldn't even figure out how to get a ROM onto my phone to flash.
Forgot I could use TWRP to force it to USB mount to my computer and get it on there like that. Just flashed Viper, but now after rebooting I'm stuck on the white HTC quietly brilliant splash screen (I don't even get to the red Droid eye screen where I was freezing before).

The ROM probably flashed fine. You have to pull the boot.img out of the zip and flash it via fast boot since you're not s-off:
Fasboot flash boot boot.img
Also, when you get everything going be sure to remember to make a backup. And you should do so before flashing anything or modifying system files.

Well...

You're trying to flash venom right? Download the newest venom. Open the zip with WinZip or other application. Pull out the boot IMG. Also, go download TWRP version 2.3.3.0 since newer builds have issues with aroma installers. Flash that recovery. Wipe data, cache, system. Flash venom ROM. Reboot to bootloader and in fastboot flash the boot IMG.

And now I'm really kind of nervous --
I just decided that this wasn't worth crying over since my phone wasn't all the customized anyway, so I just tried doing a factory reset and that failed, too.
If anyone wants to help walk me out of this mess (any outcome that leads to a usable phone would be brilliant), I would be all ears. It seems like I can't even get to recover now, so all I've got is the bootloader/USB connection to my PC to use fastboot there.
Many many thanks in advance!

I was able to get 2.3.3.0 on my phone via fastboot and can run that version of the recovery now.
However, I'm not sure how to flash a ROM at this point since I cannot get it onto my phone.
(when I use TWRP to tell my phone to mount as USB storage, the SD card is no longer an option -- I cannot select it -- and Windows cannot see the phone as a drive anymore except to ask if I want to format it to FAT32... which I'm assuming I should not do)
Can I somehow get it done via the bootloader screen using fastboot ?or adb? to get the VIPERlte_2.2.0.zip ROM package to my phone?

No reason to be nervous. If your bootloader is unlocked you're fine. Follow steps 1-12 in this post to get a functional stock ROM on your phone. I realize the post doesn't sound like it relates to your issue, but the instructions should generally be viewed as "how to get your phone back to normal".

Should I run the RUU to get back to stock/relocked? Or is there something else out there that will allow me to stay unlocked?
You can RUU and then do the whole song and dance to get back to unlocked. If you go S-OFF you shouldn't have to worry about re-unlocking the bootloader.
You can either use an sdcard reader to put the RUU zip in the root of your SD as PJ53IMG.zip or put your phone into bootloader mode run
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Once at the black HTC screen
Run
fastboot flash zip <nameofruu>.zip
It might error saying something about main version or if you have supercid it'll complain about that too. Just run the same command again
fastboot flash zip <nameofruu>.zip
And it should take and flash then entire thing and get you back to a working state.

No, OP, don't do that. I'm tired of reading "run an RUU" when it is not necessary. I posted a perfectly reasonable solution that would leave samstein66 with an unlocked bootloader, a very clean factory reset stock ROM, root, and custom recovery. Telling someone to run the RUU leaves them with a locked device which potentially still requires a factory reset to get as close to default settings as when it came from the factory. Now they get the joy of re-unlocking their bootloader, which for our non-htcdev-supported phone means sensitive processes that can mess up a device if not done carefully.

No, I cannot select those. I can only select cache, data, etc. and when it tries to mount, my computer cannot recognize the drive as H: like it normally would when USB mounted. It does see that the device is trying to mount as H, but that's where I get the Windows message saying I need to format the drive to being able to recognize it. Since I wasn't sure what to do there, I played it safe and went with not formatting (since I didn't know exactly what would get formatted).
