JB Rom that supports encrypting the phone - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm currently running Cyanogen-10 on my SGS2 and I'm very happy with it.
Unfortunately, the corporate exchange server email we use at work, requires the phone to be encrypted.
Most of the CM-10 based roms do not have that functionality.
Is there any JB based rom that supports this?
Thanks,
Andy.

Hmm not really sure of this function but I'm using an exchange account on RB and haven't any probs like this.
Maybe it's a special thing of ur servers at work but at least u could try it:

Exactly, it's a Exchange server settings. So on the stock rom, after adding the account, it tells you that you need to encrypt the phone and if you want to continue.
With the JB roms, it tells you that the function is not supported on this system...
[edit] Can you check if you can do something like this: http://support.google.com/android/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1663755

Nope sorry, I don't find ecryption in "Settings > Security".
So I think it's not supported by AOKP and so not for the Roms which are based on it.
PS: Maybe u can change the server settings at work *cough*

Skyscape working? A kind volunteer please...

Hi guys,
I'm about to pull the trigger on a nc, but need to have skyscape working for it to replace my current archos 101.
I have a link to the apk here, if someone could please install it and see if it runs.
Please also state which Rom you're using.
Cheers, thanks heaps in advance
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=510921&d=1297034453
(Tablet specific version)
Using it on the froyo flashable rom. No problems. Skyscape is the only reason I'm sticking with the froyo rom. Tried it with the CM7 rom but since no device ID is created with this rom, it won't work. The eclair roms won't work as the device ID is created randomly. Skyscape needs a stable fixed ID. I imagine the ID issue with gingerbread will be worked out in the future.

One more thing: When launching Skyscape, you HAVE to be connected via wifi. If not, it will give you the message that the device ID is different or your device is in airplane mode. But once the initial open with wifi enabled, you can use it with wifi off. If you ever reboot, always connect the first time with wifi enabled.
Thanks for the reply.
Have you tried the apk in my opening post?
I think its a tablet specific version as I'm able to use it on my 101 without wifi and without an id. The one from the market for example doesn't work.
Could you please try it and see if it makes a difference?
Cheers

I believe this is the same version I was using. I installed the apk and my paid resources were locked out. It asked me to reinstall the paid resources, but I just am restoring my system instead. Maybe you don't need the wifi to connect for non-paid resources? Your 101 must be generating some ID. Go into the software and click "about." It should show your device ID.
I've just double checked - my archos does indeed generate a stable ID.
However, I do have paid databases on their at the moment and don't need Wi-fi access upon start up... I wonder whats happening?
Do you think they'll fix it in CM7?
Have you tried running Android ID changer (on the market) to set/spoof an android device ID?
I believe the ID problem has been fixed, first by framework patch, and now in the nightlies. The problem is serious enough that I would expect it to most definitely be resolved by the time the Stable release arrives.

I thought it might be giving the problem without wifi because of subscription resources. I bought a four month subscription, so I thought that might be the programs way of checking online first before launching the paid subscription resource. Not sure, though. CM7 does appear to generate a device ID.
My nook is arriving next week
Has anyone had a chance to test skyscape out on the latest CM7 nightlies?
Also you're saying that it doesn't run on rooted stock eclair?

I downloaded the app from the market, created an account. I downloaded the free resources that were available and all seems well. It runs on a full screen.
.Update.....
I did not really read the op very well at first. I uninstalled the market app and installed your apk. Logged into the account that I created and it loaded fine. Actually, instead of 3 resources available for download, I had seven or eight with this version. Looks like it works. This is a great medical database. I am running cm7 nightly 12.
Any way to make it full screen
Is there any way to view skyscape with full screen at nook color? since only a tiny screen appears as if it is in a 3.5inch smartphone

Go to the spare parts app and the option to run older apps in compatability mode. If it is on, toogle off and reboot. If it is off, toggle on and reboot. One or the other sequence works.
Thanks for the update mate
Skyscape is the bomb...especially once you load a few databases on there
Really interested to see if anyone could please try it on autonooted stock 2.1 though, as CM7 while awesome is still not as stable as I'd like at the moment.

Im now trying the froyo that runs off the sdcard but skyscape just crashes- logcat shows the error to be "cannot determine device identification"- I'm guessing my only option is to flash froyo?
EDIT- was using old version- working now!
Or CM7 as it looks to be more stable now
Arggh- just flashed froyo and still skyscape crashes on launch- logcat still lists error as "Cannot determine device identification"- what gives!!! any ideas?

[Q] Unfortunately Android Keyboard Has Stopped

So I have been running CM10 nightlies since they first came out for the I9100int.
Been loving them, they seem to work really well, however last night I started getting the error, "android keyboard (aosp) has stopped working"
Fortunately I have a second keyboard to use, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this error.
I cannot seem to find much about it anywhere, so I figured Ill ask the source.
I have cleared the keyboard cache, but that doesnt make any difference.
The last time this happened I had to do a full flash and I was hoping to avoid that.
even reverting to a backup hasnt seemed to fix it, so Im not sure if my backup had the issue too.
anyways, just thought Id throw this out there for any help.
Otherwise Id like to give a HUGE thanks to all the developers with this project, I love my S2 more and more with constant updates they provide.
Go into menu/system/apps and find android keyboard asop and CLEAR DATA Then do the same for Dictionary Provider and CLEAR DATA.

On my Galaxy Note N7000 after an install of the current nightly CM10, some weeks later I get this message and the only way I can fix it is with a Factory Reset/wipe. This has happened a few times now. From the Settings app, I can get into System/Apps but there are no options like you mention above . .
It would be nice not to have to use the Factory Reset/wipe method . . is there a way of using your method on the N7000?
Thanks,
Phil.

When you go setting/apps, make sure you swipe to the right so it says ALL at the top, not just downloaded, they're in there. I just had the same error hence my search here. Following the advice above worked for me on cyanogen mod

Same problem here. I just flashed the Provision JB ROM and right away I can't use my keyboard at all. I cleared the data for the AOSP keyboard but I can't find the dictionary app.
same problem.. no dictionary provider. keyboards keeps on crashing (phone is Sk17i so bug is not related to phone itself)!
I've the same issue, even i can't type any letter !
I've cleared the data for Android keyboard ( from settings/apps.. ) , but it didn't work with me!
Also i can't find Directory provider in apps.
So, what to do?
I use SGT-P3100.
BRGRDS
I solved it by using gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip
I faced the same issue yesterday when I installed cm10. I have xperia mini pro sk17i.
After a lot of trial and error, I solved the error doing:
wiping cache partition
factory reset
installing cm10 rom
installing gapps one version older: gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip (I am new and unable to post a link, just google it.)
The main takeaway - use the older gapps and after install, update them using market. Maybe just doing this will solve the problem for you.
PS. I am using extender kernel by M66B
Even though I'm using the latest nightly for the samsung galaxy nexus I ran into this same issue. Cleared data for android keyboard but as others couldnt find the data dictionary so since I use a 3rd party keyboard anyways, I went back into android keyboard and disabled it. No more error for me, hope that helps.
The solution to this seems that the newes Gapps Version for JB is not compatible with 4.1.x. http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps#20121130.
So if your using Android 4.1.2 you have to stay with gapps 20121011.
20121130 is for Android 4.2 only. In that case a bad choice to stay with JB for the new release, as this cannot easyly be seen in the name of the zip package..
If you already installed 20121130 it should be sufficient to reinstall ROM and after that gapps version 20121011. If that doen't work you need to wipe..

[Q] Can the Verizon GS4 use the Omega ROM?

Hello fellow XDA people. My question to all of you is that is it possible to use the Omega ROM meant for the i9505 variant to be flashed and used on this Verizon variant? Like can the following be usable (to those that have or are willing to use Omega and test it out):
- Data (3G/4G and Wifi)
- Wifi Tethering
- Any features added to the XXUBMEA update that this ROM is built from (Such as HDR video recording, more space available, less lag, etc.).
- Messaging
- Call Recording and any other mods added to this ROM
BTW it is possible to use i9505 ROMs on the Verizon variant but I haven't heard of anyone that has tried out Omega so that I can see if they have experienced any bugs relating to Wifi, Data, or other features and mods. Idk if I can post the link but I can say that there is a guide to install i9505 ROMs on this device somewhere in this section.

Edit: You should not flash any ROM not specific to your carrier as there are carrier specific files included. You could lose data connectivity or spam other carriers with errors. There are ways to port other ROMs but those are very advanced tasks.
Yes, flash and use your carriers kernel (important) and add your apn settings, it will work.

I've tried the ktoonsez kernel as well as the faux kernel. I also tried flashing the wanamlite rom just to see if it was just an issue with the omega rom, but I still get the same problem. And yes, I did try reflashing it but the problem is still there.

That's strange. Hm. Hope I don't run into the same problem.
You probably will run into the same problems if all the system apps and config files don't have the necessary codes and designations in it. The RIL lib files are different too amongst other things. That's not to say a ROM couldn't have more universal system settings. Or that you couldn't change the settings/databases/configs yourself.
I've found work arounds for all the issues so far but they aren't novice user friendly. I may do a write up after I'm done my port.

That sucks. I've seen some people get it working I think and a little bit according to kejay except for the fact his/her APN settings come and go along with data. Omega is a really great ROM but I guess I might just have to go with HyperDrive which I've already downloaded but I've heard of a few bugs here and there as of RLS 4.
[EDIT] Anyone got data working yet or anything? Or should I just use HyperDrive? Got my phone like 5 minutes ago.

[Q] Email app disables unknown Source Installation

Hi,
I have installed Android 4.2 or 4.3 on my samsung galaxy s3. Once Email app is configured it blocks/disables apk file installation. In other way it disables Unknown Source Installation. But the same is working in 4.1.2 or lower version. I am trying for a very long time to find out an answer. In xda/google also i am not able to find an answer. Hope here i will get an answer.
Note:
I have checked the unknown source in the settings. Till the email app configuration i am able to install apk files but after that i am not able to install. I think this is related to device administrators policy because of that unknown sources in settings is disabled.
Thanks,

[Q] Stock samsung email.apk on custom ROM 4.4.2

Hello everyone,
I'm new on the forum, i just started using my i9100 with custom ROMs, i tried CM10 once but i didn't like it so i went back to stock JB.
Now when i saw that KitKat was available i just said "why don't i give it a try", so i installed omniROM 4.4.2. So far so good, but what i really miss from the stock samsung ROM is the peak/off-peak schedule for default email application.
I use my corporate email account with the default email app (company policy), but in omniROM there is no schedule option like in the latest stock rom for my phone.
So i thought, well lets look for another stock rom for a samsung phone that has 4.4.2 and take the Email.apk and move it to mine. So i downloaded the stock S4 ROM 4.4.2 and i see that there is no Email.apk but SecEmail.apk, i tried to use that file but it doesn't work (copied on recovery mode), i know that i'm doing it right because i tried before with other versions trying to fix that exchange "cannot connect" bug of kitkat.
So my question is this: is there a way to get "peak/off-peak schedule" feature? where i can get the Email.apk that will do that? or what is different with that secEmail.apk that it doesn't work?
Thanks, and sorry if someone asked this before, i searched everywere but didn't find an answer, i don't know why people doesn't ask "where that feature go? or how can i get it back in non stock roms", i find it one of the most useful features, in fact the first time i went back to stock from CM10, that was the reason why.

y#eah thre are many apps on playstore for email try them
^+1....the above is good advice, there are loads of email apps on playstore......
But as for installing the stock email app on a CM rom.....it ain't ever gonna work.......
This is because the stock email app is a 'system' app, and sysrem apps need the touchwiz framework to function. This framework is (obviously) excluded from CM roms........
My wife says I'm a phone geek....She's probably right

Indeed but not so many that correctly works in corporate environment (M$ Exchange). In fact Samsung did quite good job extending his Email.apk with some features that others miss like:
- S/MIME support
- setup of Exchange auto responder (server side)
- folders browser
etc.
BTW can you advice one with such features ?
@bhavstech
so, your first answer gave me point worth to check ...
