[Q] Home screen page links - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to create buttons on my home screen to link to other home screen pages and found the question asked a couple of times but there was never a clear answer, just smartalec responses. On a jailbroken iPhone there is an app called Springjumps that accomplishes this (just for reference). The buttons already exist (kind of) on Android, the page identifiers (the lil dots that indicate which page you are on) can be touched to "jump" to the indicated page. I want to theme these I guess so I can create a Games or Productivity button that will jump to the page that I have set up for those apps. Has anyone seriously looked into this? Please keep your responses that I should just make a bunch of folders, it's not helpful.

Number of screens

Hi everyone,
I've searched the forums for the past hour or so trying to find out what the thing is that I'm looking for but haven't had any luck, so if anyone can point me in the right direction then I'd be really grateful.
My cousin has a G1 and recently installed one of the SuperCSDI ROMs on it. He showed me an option where on the home screen he presses menu and there was some sort of "Advanced Settings" button, and when he went into it, it allowed him to choose the number of home screens, which home screen was the main one (such as 1st (very left), or 4th (middle), etc) and number of rows of icons in the app drawer menu, as well as various other options.
I don't know if this is the "Advanced Launcher" app because from what I've read that only seems to let you choose "number of rows" but not the number of home screens.
So does anybody know which app/what I'm talking about and if so, is it possible to be installed on Hero either via an .apk file or by flashing a specific ROM that has this built in.
I only use 2 of the 7 screens available so I wonder if decreasing the number of home screens would speed up the phone in terms of RAM usage, etc.

[Q] Browser History and Bookmarks. Where are they?

Update: Wow I'm an idiot. There's an icon right on the address bar that opens the exact window I'm thinking of. In my defense, I don't think I used to have to access it this way. I seem to recall there being a menu option. Who knows. I bricked my G1 so I can't go look.
On my G1 I could long-press on the Back button and get my browser history. I've read elsewhere that this is the case on other phones. This is mysteriously missing from the Vibrant. Plus there used to be a menu option to see it. I can find no way to access the history using the "Web" app. There is a button in settings to clear the History, but what's the point if no one can ever see it?
Same with Bookmarks. I can create bookmarks, but there don't appear anywhere! The button that normally shows bookmarks (if I recall correctly) is now an "Add RSS Feeds" button. The only way I've been able to access bookmarks is by creating a shortcut on my home screen. That's pretty ridiculous.
I seem to remember bookmarks, history, and possibly the open window list all being in one spot with a tabbed interface. All I can get to now is the open window list. EDIT: No, wait, I think it was bookmarks, history, and downloads all in one place. I was using CM5 at the time if that matters.
Am I missing something obvious here?
Also, does anyone else think it's annoying that the browser has it's own brightness setting and you can't just tell it to use the normal brightness setting? I understand the idea behind the future. You spend a lot of time staring at the screen when using the browser, so it's nice to be able to dim it to save battery power, but I sure wish there were an option to just make it use the normal brightness, because I really don't care. This is especially annoying when I have the brightness in the browser all the way up, and I'm using the reddit app at night in my bed, and I click a link. BAM! I'm blinded by the bright screen and have to keep staring at it to go find the setting to lower it.
I think Samsung made some really dumb mistakes with their version of Android. I know that custom roms solve these problems, but users shouldn't have to hack their phone to get basic features like access to browser history and bookmarks.

Android web browsers - unwanted zoom on text field selection

Hi,
This is a thing that has annoyed me with Android from the start, but after a lot of searching, I have not found a way to disable or stop the behavior.
So my problem is that with all versions of Android and all the web browsers for Android I have tried, web pages always zoom in when you select a text entry field on a web page.
So for example on my Note 3 and Nexus 7 I go to, say theregister.co.uk. The phone /tab is in landscape mode and the page is set to a zoom where all the article titles are legible. There is a search field at the top right hand corner of the web page which is also a a legible size. I select it to enter text and the screen is zoomed in so that the field fills the whole of the screen, that is not filled by the keyboard.
If any of the text I start to enter brings up any suggestions, due to the zoom level, they are lost behind the soft keyboard. I zoom out to look at them and they dis-pear. I select the text field again to add or delete text, to make those suggestions come up again and I get zoomed in to far again. I then give up put the phone or tablet down and use a windows laptop etc instead.
Now I understand why this would have been desirable initially in Android, when phones had small screens and on ones with small screens today, but why is this needed on larger screens or even tablets?
It makes things like posting this forum post very frustrating on an Android device. I know there is an App for XDA, but is is not a powerful as using the forum direct through a web page. So I cannot replace having a windows etc PC around as Android does not give comparable web page interaction experience.
So I wanted to know if anyone knew of a way of disabling this behavior if so desired? Or if there is a browser out there where this does not happen?

Looking for app to "return" to home screen (Bixby Key replacement) ... ?

EDIT: (I just realized this is the wrong forum for this posting. I didn't want to edit and have a blank post clogging up the forum so I left it... Mod's please move or remove this post as needed if not allowed here. Sorry)...
.
Good morning.
I am looking for a very simple, single purpose "app" that doesn't seem to exist
I want an app that simply returns to the home screen.
Reason:
I want to use my Bixby key on Galaxy S10 as "Home Button" (BUT):
I do not want to use button re-mappers as this is redundant and irritating.
(So that any phone's gesture or key settings that will load an "app" (but not an activity) can go to home screen without other monitoring or remapping software running).
The stock software already allows the remap of the Bixby button to a different "application" (Not activity), So I am in search of a small app that does just that - simply calls / loads / launches the home screen and closes. Period. I've read many people want the key as "back button" and a small app that does only "back" would be cool too. I wish I had time to SDK and tinker like I used to do with Windows :
Anyone know of such a thing, or willing to throw a paragraph of code into an APK for fun ? :fingers-crossed:
Thanks everyone...

Mod to set different functions to swipe left and right on home screen

Hello fellow Android users.
I've always been obsessed with customizing the functionality of my devices to make it really practical to use.
I've been playing with the settings of the Xiaomi Redmi 9 for a week now and everything is set to perfection except one thing which is not available in the default settings but would be incredibly convenient, not only for me but for many people too.
I set all the apps I use in one single home screen (not multiple pages). The ones that don't fit there are all in one folder and that uses up only one button slot.
Since I don't have multiple pages for the apps, the swipe left and swipe right functions are available for other useful things, I'd like to set that up to be shortcuts to apps that I use a lot, like whatsapp and gmail. This would also free 2 slots in my home screen.
I suspect there's a way to do it, just don't know how and have tried several google searches like "how to assign left and right swipe functions on android home screen" or "how to customize left and right swipe on android home screen" and many other similar combinations of words. Found nothing.
Does anyone know if there's an app or a mod that allows you that level of customization? I'm a video editor and I'm not very educated in programing android apps or anything similar.
Hope someone can give me a hint. Thanks a lot in advance. Greetings from Barcelona, where many of us are locked down and unemployed :cyclops:
