[U] Root/Unlock Xperia U Qs - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi!
I have an Xperia U ICS flashed using flashtool. Unrooted and Locked. I do want to root/unlock, I just had a few questions first.
- Can I root my phone WITHOUT unlocking the bootloader?.. as I heard that unlocking ones bootloader is risky and can damage the phone.
I really have no idea as to how to root a phone as I'm totally new to droid ( 1st android phone ) ! So it would be really helpful if someone at least posted a link(s) for a tutorial. (The right tutorial for a newbie! ) If possible, I want to root my phone WITHOUT unlocking the bootloader.
- What is the difference between Root with Locked bootloader & Root with Unlocked bootloader?
And regarding ROMs, I also heard that custom ROMs are really much better than the stock ones, So If anyone could help me choosing the best ROM for my Xperia U would be helpful too. Also a tutorial link as to how to install a custom ROM. User reviews would be real helpful here, People who have custom Xperia U ROMs, HELP!
Help out guys
P.S I know there are tutorials out there, I just don't know which one to follow.

Just follow the instructions here to root your phone :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
And then install cmw for your phone to install custom ROM'S
If the info helped you click the thanks button..

Alright, I 'll just wait then.

Bootloader unlocked means u can try different roms now bt u loose ur warranty and u also need to flash a custom kernel for custom rom
Rooting I guess has nothing to do wid bootloader being locked or unlocked

Yes you can root your phone without locking the bootloader, when you unlock the bootloader you void your warranty. A locked bootloader doesnt void your warranty, but doesnt allow you to be able to flash all custom roms, some need an unlocked bootloader to work. Cannot help you with guides because i use the Xperia P, good luck though.

hi, im new neo v user! and i want to install a rom! do i need to unlock my BL to install any rom? or there is some roms tht can be installed without unlocking the BL? sorry for my question i know its outdated )
I've red samoire that you can install any rom that is based on the official one with no kernel changes via cwm. I've tryed it with my neo and dosen't work.
My Root sts is Boot Loader Unlock: No and as far as i know there is no way i can unlock the bootloader for free...So I am courious about the same thing but on neo (mt15i) .
So Clear ...
We have two kinds of roms;
1)Official
2)Custom
The first one is that one which you already have and doesn't need unlocked bootloader BUT the second one needs an unlocked bootloader.
Feel Free To Hit My THX...
There are also a few custom roms for locked boatloader,
Eg
Romkola, Codename and a couple of others, although they are likely to encourage you to unlock to really see what a neo can do

exactly, you made it sound so simple
after unlocking the bootloader, flashing a prerooted system.img will also work if you don't want a custom kernel.
Finding this should not be that hard: [Xperia S][INFO][REF] All that u need to know before u begin
Oh.. and unlocking the bootloader will also have some disadvantages like warranty and DRM related things.
Still not easy
can you link it step by step plz...
what i have to do first
(little noob)
I have not rooted my phone (yet..) i don't want to unlock bootloader.
I think its best if you start reading from the beginning of the previous link, or if you want to get started right away then:
see this tutorial for Unlocking Bootloader:
[Tutorial] Xperia S Bootloader Unlocking & Relocking
and this for rooting:

Thx man i will try it...
to root i will have to unlock bootloader??
is that really needed?
Arter bootloader i need to unlock also??
Currently it is the only way to root, later on another way will probably come along, but for now you must unlock your bootloader to root your device.
There isn't really much of downside besides losing some functionality in some apps due to the loss of your DRM key. It does not 100% void your warranty, but if you plan on overclocking and it goes wrong, your warranty will probably be voided.

[Q] how to root WT19i for noob (4.1.B.0.431)

Does anyone know the easiest way to root (no downgrade, etc.) for WT19i with android ics 4.0.4 (4.1.B.0.431)?

Either unlock bootloader and install custom kernel or downgrade.

With downgrading
Sent from Bregenz, Austria
You must first have your bootloader unlocked. Search the forum for ways on how to, there are (2) current methods being used to. When your bootloader is unlocked, download either expeacer's extended kernel or krsh v 3.0( check my sig ) and install it via fastboot mode. By following this you accomplish the ff: root your phone, install cwm and busybox. Btw, someguyfromhell has made a tut for this. Check it out.

P2P, are you on the wrong forum? This is called community bro, no one leeches from one another. Downgrading is the best option, even for noobs like you and me
I did it on my xperia mini pro and it worked like a charm, just follow the instructions, it's really easy once you've read them carefully

No, so far there is no known way to root ICS 4.0.4. Downgrading is the only way if you want to keep your bootloader locked.

how bootloader can be unlocked of wt19i ics build 4.1.B.0.431 ?
Bootloader unlock voids warranty! But Check out at
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
Better to root is downgrading! You can unroot and keep your warranty...
Second method for Bootloader unlocking is testpoint method, just search in General section.

If you follow that thread i think you can be on .62 gb rooted, otherwise search for another
After rooting bootloader is NOT unlocked. Unlocking it allows you to install custom kernels in order to improve performance or get more ROMS like cyanogenmod jelly bean. It's a whole different story unlocking it
A kernel tells the device what to do, basically. ROMs are modified system files by users to mod their device. This is really base explained
Jelly bean is still experimental so all roms will have bugs. You need to unlock your bootloader for it
Well, the best would be back up with cwm but you cant, so if you wanna save all your data, search for some backup app

Firstly you don't need bootloader unlocked for custom roms(just root is needed) but u need it unlocked for installing custom roms.....and please don't ask about best/fast/good Rom since these type of thread are discouraged and u won't get your answer instead a hell lot of people mocking you for this....please be careful next time

You don't need to downgrade to root if you want to unlock the bootloader. Just unlock it and flash a prerooted kernel like rage kernel and you will be rooted and cwm or TWRP recovery are built in
Try some and you will find your personal best rom :good:

New to android,need some knowledge.

I'm new to android, earlier I had Nokia 5233.Everyone's talkin about custom Rom,kernel, flashing Roms, bootloader etc..I want to know that.
But I know that for accessing system files we should have root access,so I managed some how and succeeded in,rooting my phone(Xperia go Stock ICS 4.0.4) installed CWM also. Now I want to know what is bootloader, and how do we unlock it,and is there any threat in doing so?
What about installing Custom Roms? Do they require unlocking bootloader or we can install them without unlocking bootloader.
Pls tell me about this.
Many new android users want to know this.
Replying to this thread will help others too.
Read, read and read. And most of all use search... you will find everything.
May b u should wait till u get official ics..... Unlocking ur bootloader wont let u use pc companion....
