Seems to me like a Hardware issue, do check with a samsung service center and see

It might not be a hardware issue. It can also be software lated, i.e you have wrong ntp address, its finds some satellites but they are too weak to connect .o Try GPS fasterfix to change your ntp server. Search for it on the forum. Gps test plus is a good app to see the satellites strength .

I must concur but for me this guy taught that whenever someone asks why isn't their gps locking, my first question will be: Are you Outdoor or indoor?

Stablest gingerbread custom rom??

Need help selecting custom rom for galaxy ace for a friend. This is his first android. He bought the phone just thinking it is cool to have an android and for free apps. His phone memory was full first day and is unable to move to card. I convinced him to root and install custom rom. If you suggest the stablest and fastest gingerbread on ace with most features as in stock it would be helpful. I am quite sure that he would not go for an update for next 6months atleast after I install gingerbread on his phone. Thanks in advance.

Haven't received an SoD since I flash fla.sh ROM over 24 hours ago. I run WIFI constantly at work and turn it off when I leave. If he has a habit of forgetting to turn WIFI off then he may well get them.

If you have wifi turned off, the ROM works fine.
Any idea when official gingerbread update to ace will be rolled out in India? As I'm sure he wont be using wifi but if sod also happens with Bluetooth then it may be a problem to him. I don't think I'll be around him to fix it for him.

I m using SanGinger ROM v2.0 and its pretty good.No SODs from last 4 days
Well. I guess they are all good roms, you should just try them, but since your friend doesnt seem very interested on it, well just chose one randomly (dont know if this phrase is well made, or even that ahaha).
I'm using coderom v2x-2b, and just like someone told you, sod is caused because of wifi. i'm using kph with L modem, and I have no sod at all since... well since i'm using it (2 weeks, maybe more).
All of them offer you almost the same... cf-root, a2sd and ext4 compatibility, etc etc. I use a2sd to put apps on the sd card, even dalvik cache. Now my internal memory keeps between 129-136 mb free (dont know why it changes ahhaa ).
Cheers!

You have a very old Gingerbread baseband from september last year. LPS works excellent, I'd give it a try.
Downloading LPS now from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950&page=105
does Vodafone has any different modem for SGS2?
Still facing same issue upgraded modem LPS Its still the same.
Strange thing is Use 2G network and Data Enabled is unchecked itself whenever I had this problem.

There are a larhe number of modems .
Start with the last one and work your way back .

Best way to find a good Modem is testing them all.

You need a computer and a thing called search and you look on XDA thread for Modem post with flashable modems .Like most stuff its found in development .
But you would do better to read the basics first .

Do you have active data connection (mobile or wifi) when attempting a gps fix?
If not, it can take up to several minutes for a lock if you have not used Gps for a while since that is how it work.

If nothing of the above helps, do a factory reset in backup and restore or in the worst case reflash the stock rom with Odin.

Good idea. If that doesn't work then most likely it's hardware related. Mime locks on in seconds. GPS is light years ahead of S1 and S2.
But as mentioned earlier make sure you have a data connection or it could take ages.

Hi!
I think you should flash another modem, Modem/Radio/Baseband is all the same thing and can be seen by going to Settings - About Phone - Baseband. It's basically a driver which receives and sends Mobile Network signals as well as handling switching between GPRS, 3G, HSDPA etc..
anyway, here is the collection of modems for our s2
also, remember that Usually just flashing and then using the same modem for 3-5 days should tell you how well it performs in your are and with you Mobile Network operator. Please remember that it takes around 2-3 days for a Modem to "settle" and achieve optimum performance, so don't judge how good a Modem is straight after flashing. That's where a lot of people fail when asserting battery drain.
on the sidenote, here is a youtube link on how to flash a modem:

hope this helps,
cheers

How do you test modem ?

Hey, I'm new android user here
I want to know how do you test and compare modem ? By manually look at the signal strength ?
Is there any apps to benchmark it ?
I'm just tired flashing and downloading different modem but not sure which one is the best. Thanks !!

NO. Manually only, flash modems from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28033515 , one by one every couple of days. Watch your signal bars and run few speed tests. Strong signal doesn't mean fast data. It's all depends where are you and who is your network provider. Have a fun
