GT-19100 Roms on our phones? is it possible?
I just braved it out and flashed a GT-19100 ICS rom on it and everything works - I ofcourse flashed a ATT radio but wifi, BT works so far.
Data/Voice mms/sms works.
so I'm guessing its possible?
Thanks,
You can Hellraise i9100 Roms, tons of info about it in the development threads. Not sure how much luck others have had hellraising ics though, it usually comes with problems.

You CAN'T hellraise any ICS roms. Search a little bit and you'll find plenty of threads about it.
Like previous poster said Hellraising I9100(GB) is done very easily(look in dev section for hellraiser package).
Op: Are you saying voice(making/receiving calls) works? You sure? I'm pretty sure voice calls WILL NOT work.

I called myself from work and heardmyself and called from my cell and it worked. I didnt hellraise anything, flashed a rom and directly after the rom i flashed an ATT modem
first boot took a little bit - the only problem i have is that the *back and search* captive buttons do not work.
Now might not be the best time to be brave. I9100 ics ROM won't work for I777 phones because we don't have the kernel source yet. try making a call and you'll know what I mean. Also getting back to stock might be a bi#@h now because most of the file sharing sites are down thanks to the FEDs.

I simply flashed a .zip from their forums. I didnt do a firmware update or anything like
Exactly which zip did you flash?
While the button issues are most likely unsolvable without kernel source, working call audio is a MAJOR (and completely unexpected) development.

Which ATT Modem did you use? If Everything works using the I9100 Kernel (XXKP8) and just flashing the Modem makes it usable then you might have just discovered something here.

Hi... well.. i have a problem.. i have a i777 but with a i9100 motherboard so i have problems with the buttons. So i decided to install the ics for i9100 and then remapp the buttons but after that i need to install the i777 kernel because if not it doesnt work. and its very cool but when i call my mic doesnt work and the other person hear a very noise sound. After that i reinstall the i9100 zImage and its all perfect but the buttons doesnt work. so i need a combination of both. Someone can help me ? i was thinking about modify the i19100 zImage and change the parts of the buttons but i dont know how.

this doesnt belong here, it belongs in Q&A...
If he really does have a mix-and-matched unit (I9100 motherboard with I777 touchkeys), he's going to have to make a custom kernel with an I9100 audio/key configuration and an I777 touchkey config.
I'm actually kind of surprised an I9100 mobo works in an I777, due to the hardware difference (touchkeys and NFC)
sorry for my bad explain..i need a custom ics kernel with an I9100 audio/key configuration and an I777 touchkey config like he said.. but i dont know how to make it.

Well, if yer really interested in kernel development and Linux coding, I'm sure entropy could tell u a place to at least get started. I'm trying to figure this stuff out myself and recently bought a book on it. Good luck my friend, I've never seen a situation like yours before, wish I could help but this is definitely above my pay grade.

I'm also very interested to see how this frankenphone works out lol, if you had already managed to pull together a working hybrid i777 kernel, have you considered simply reproducing the project with a mic-swapped version of your original work?

No, and really? How and why did you get an i9100 motherboard installed in an i777?
Well my wife had an I9100 and she broke the display. A new display would cost about 100-150€ here in my country. The phone is not worth so mutch. I got a dead I777 from a friend for free, so I started tinkering with it. I managed to get the buttons working but the in call mic isn't working. If I fix the mic with a kernel the the capacitative buttons get borked. If been trying to find a solution on my own for the most part of the week, reading and searching but to no avail. So I tought I try asking for help here. If someone can help me that would be just fantastic, if not at least I tried. Of course I don't expect anyone to build me a kernel just for one phone, and certainly not for free, but was hoping somebody can point me in the right direction at least. I would greatly appreciate it.

Yes, I allready tried that. Tryied once more just now, just to be sure. The mic is still not working. Thanks anyway.
I don't think you said what firmware you are running.
Did you say AJK MicSwap kernel works with the buttons, and everything else except the microphones? If so, have you tried AJK v4.9 NoSwap? I know it's supposed to be for AT&T UCMD8 stock firmware, but it would be worth a try.

Yes I tried the no swap kernel also, but to no avail. I'm on stock I9100 firmware XWLSW firmware. I've tried to flash an I777 firmware in the phone but then the charging won't work. It says after a few second "battery temp. too high, unable to charge" and the battery percentage goes down very very fast. But the buttons work with that firmware (I777UCMD8).
And thanks for you're reply.

I don't think there's any other workaround besides a custom kernel with the necessary def configs compiled in the kernel. And that is going to mean you're going to invest A LOT of time in learning or enlisting the skills of an experienced kernel Dev. Guess it all comes down to how bad you need to have that phone working. You can buy a used one pretty cheap these days.
Thanks, I already tried that. Still didn't work. I'm afraid I don't have the necessary skills to build a kernel so for now I give up. Yes I know there cheap but I just hate to throw it out like that. Thank you for trying to help.

I've updated two phones today but they were both stock so I don't know yet. Still early going so I have no real feedback as of yet.
My biggest question is can I upgrade all my 2.3.x phones to this over the air, or will I have to hack 4.0 on there first anyway? I literally spent hours upgrading 5 S2s to 4.0.3 two days ago seeing as there was no other way. Then I see this today. Ah well, better late than never I guess. I have 4 s2 devices to get to 4.0 anyway I can so I'm hoping I can just call the users and tell them to do it over the air.

Back on Topic, I tried the update this evening on my rooted stock ICS S2 (replacement came with 4.0.1 on it from AT$T). Of course, it failed. I'm sure it is because I uninstalled some system app. I didn't note which ones I got rid of. Does anyone have a list or link to a list of the apps that came with the phone originally? I want to reinstall them so I can update. Thanks!
My phone has recently just started to turn off randomly. It will do this whether the battery is full or lower. It hasn't done this if it is plugged in to an AC outlet, but I believe it has done this before when plugged into a computer. I push the awake button but don't get any response. I hold down the power button for about ten seconds to reset it. Any ideas on why this is dong this? It just started doing this about a month ago and I have had the phone since I bought it new about a year and a half ago.

Usually when someone knowledgeable of the issue replies in the thread, they give a little more in depth answer than just a one word reply. I'm not trying to have a drawn out phone-like conversation on the issue, just an answer. He was being curt on purpose. No hard feelings though
And there wasn't a reason for me to think that a new update would cause my phone to turn off in sleep mode. I did a search and nothing came up. Even if I looked in that thread, I would have to have to go through 4 pages of banter to see the issue brought up.
I think this is a big enough issue to warrant it's own thread. Most people have stock ROM (maybe not on this site) and update to the newest software version when prompted to on their phone. But like I said, no hard feelings. Just want to get a limelight on this and get it resolved.

And if they didn't bother fixing an issue with the kernel that can hard brick a device just from wiping, why would they fix this issue?
