How to create Widget Layouts? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to build a Widget for my app and I find it really hard to support all the screens and densities.
Is there any tool that helps you creating the layouts and graphics?
Or does any1 know a good tutorial?
I find it kinda strange that everything in android programming is like playing with lego and building up blocks, while when coming to programming widgets you suddenly have to mess around with single pixels and stuff like this.
I find it absolutely stupid that there is no way to obtain the grid size from a launcher and stuff like that.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

[Q] Building a Plain text Launcher (Terminal/Command prompt Style)

Hi all, I'm newly registered here and I've found only 1 thread concerning this.
My question is this: How hard would it be to build a Launcher that doesn't use graphics, only text. I ask this because I've never programmed for android, but I have some experience in actionscript and basic. It's not very much tho, and I've tried many different programming languages over the years, mostly basic stuff in school (php, java, c++, javascript).
I always liked the look of CWM recovery on my Galaxy 3. It's really crisp and I wondered if I could make a launcher myself that would emulate that look and feel.
I also liked how more of the screen could be used since you could use vol+/- keys for navigation, and not just your touchscreen. That means smaller fonts and more options on screen at one time.
Is it possible for me, as a total beginner, to build a really simple launcher that I could later expand with widgets etc?
Im youre fan... from now )
i'll be youre big fan if you create something like that - simple text launcher is my dream =)

[Q] Way to edit default's in Default.xml

Building and theming a rom, Wondering a few things, And searching for things this deep doesn't prove too useful very often, And ya just gotta ask. I'm trying to get a first impression wow factor with my rom. Make it stand out.
I've themed quite a few icons, And i'd like to be able to have select icons, Specificly the one's themed together be in their place in the dock upon a fresh flash
I'd also like to edit the default place to be the 4x1 instead of 4x2, So it'll be something different from first look. Please help me guys!

Tutorial's for those awesome homescreens?

Hey all,
I was just wondering if there are any sites out there that give you tutorials on how to get those sweet looking homescreens?
Right now I use MyColorscreen but most of the time they don't give you the wallpaper and the necessary files. Sometimes I have no idea how to accomplish those wonderful screens and if you don't get any reply's well, then you're f*cked.
I'm trying one out now and have no idea how to get any further
This one:

Best apps/other to combine with Launchers

Hi yall,
Just want to know some info about the best apps/other things to use with Launchers.
For example one could use Nova Launcher + Minimalistic Text + Widgetlocker etc.
I am looking for all the possibilities because of themes I am going to create.
While I am working at the Ubuntu theme at the moment, I am looking for the effect that Ubuntu mobile gives when you slide your finger across
the apps on the launcher bar at the left of the screen.
And also all effects that Ubuntu os supports.
So can you give me some concrete good info about this?
I am looking forward to all your responses and feedback.
PS
Please do not dirty up this thread with replies as:
Apps or suggestions that have nothing to do with my question.
My preference for replies goes to experienced themers.
Don't wanna insult nobody, but I really need this thread to remain clean and practical, you know what I mean.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Dizzy

Android tips

Hi,
I finally made the switch to android after years of iOS and WP.
WP was really a failure in my opinion, and since android doesn't seem to lag that much anymore since 4.0, I thought I'd give android a shot.
I've been playing around and searching for tips and tricks etc, I'm trying to customize my UI to my liking especially, but I can't get anywhere close to those awesome UI screenshots I see people posting of their phones across forums. I'm currently using Go Launcher EX but I'm looking for cooler techy/nerdy widgets, live backgrounds, more animations (especially TV animation when locking the phone).
Can you give a new android user any tips and hints (anything from apps to general usage)?
Any essential apps (like CCleaner for android or something) that I should get, or any procedures such as cleaning the cache regularly I should be aware of?

Wow, that should get me started at least, thanks.
Do you have more launcher suggestions? I don't mind paying for it, but I'm looking for something that has a decent amount of themes to choose from and lots of customizability plus it should be stable and not lag.
