[Q] Need help with I9300 region change flashing - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I have a outright/carrier free S3 from Hungary, with everything untouched and stock firmware 4.0.4.
I am trying to work out how I can change the firmware to the latest UK update with Jelly Bean, and thereafter have the phone recognised in kies for future updates direct from Samsung, and also have the ability to do OTA updates.
Basically I just want to get Jelly Bean loaded on it and have it be like a phone that was bought in the UK, so that updates work OTA or via kies in the future and don't want the phone to be rooted either.
What would be the best and simplest way of achieving this?
I wasn't able to find anything on the forums to guide me on how to get this done the way I need it.
If its easier I could also load a UK 4.0.4 ROM on it and then OTA to Jelly Bean.
As I mentioned, I just want to change it to be like I bought it in the UK instead of having a region on it that takes months to update to a new firmware like Hungary.
Hoping someone knows exactly what to do, much appreciated.
Thank you

Thanks mate, can I do the same with UK JB version to skip having to do the OTA this time around?
Will everything work just the same?

You can flash the latest JB with Odin, and use a CSC changer to change region codes. So long as the correct JB and CSC match, you can update it OTA or through Samsung Kies.
However be forewarned that changing your CSC will wipe your phone clean -- or so I've read. Haven't done it, personally.

Thanks,
One other thing I still need to know is, the phone currently hasn't got BTU CSC on it as an option, but a lot of other countries, if I flash the UK BTU JB, will that also renew the CSC options for later to change it to BTU or am I stuck with the CSC options that are on it now?
I'm assuming flashing the UK BTU JB ROM will update the AP and CP to match each other, then I just need to change the CSC?
Many thanks.

Hi,
I just updated to the stock UK 4.1.1 using Odin but I now can't access the CSC changer using the dialler code as I could before, also the CSC changer app won't work either.
It also says my CSC is now unknown.
Is there another way I can change the CSC?
Thanks

Nevermind, I flashed the 4.1.1 twice and the CSC showed up, the dialler code still doesn't work but the CSC app worked to change it, just had to add a APN to get data back and kies and OTA works fine now and has detected the phone as BTU for updating.

[Q] Firmware update via odin for sim locked SGS2?

Is any problem to update my SGS2 firmware via odin (with latest 2.3.4) if its sim locked? Should I use my old csc (KG2) from my provider or I can use the multi csc from KG5? Thanks
It should not be a problem updating to xxkg5 as all the provider information is on the sim card, only time you would need csc if a different language is used.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XD
Be careful because if you use odin you are flashing your phone and i thought that sim-locked phones couldnt be flashed??!!!
You Can flash it
I just flashed my SGS II yesterday to 2.3.4 and its sim locked to TMobile UK,
Its debanded it however it now reports it cant be updated in kies, see attached image.
that is normal as kies only supports samsung branded firmwares. Odin works better.
you can still use the other features of kies except updating.

I debranded my T-Mobile UK SGSII (KE3) to Stock KE7.
Connect my phone to my PC with the Samsung software. It said that there was a software update and downloaded a stock KF3. I had to reroot the phone afterwards.
Is the reason perhaps that i have installed kg5?,
TBO i am overwhelmed by the amount of diferent firmwares and other info on this site.
I can report that it appears to be working fine though on my phone.
I changed it to kg5 using odin and downloaded it from samfirmware.com

That is exactly the reason. The official stock update is to KF3 and you are way ahead of that.

Kies showing different firmware

I have rooted my S2 but now unrooted but problem is that before rooting my firmware was PDA:KJ2 / PHONE:KI4: / CSC KJ1 (KSA) showing on KIES... now it is showing PDA:KJ2 / PHONE:KI4: / CSC KJ1 (XSG)although i have downloaded official stock firmware from sammobile firmwares which is SAUDI ARABIA but why the hell iit is showing (XSG) instead of (KSA) on KIES.
It doesn't makes any big difference, so as long as it shows updates in kies you have no problem

but still wanna know why it is showing XSG firmware instead of KSA?
anyway what about updates i'm still on GB 2.3.5, is my phone will be updating according to UAE from now on?
can i flash official ICS from any other region after rooting?

ya sure, but you can upgrade to other region ics even without rooting. download the ics firmware you want to flash and use odin to flash it. do read the odin tutorial on how to do it.
you can flash any i9100 ICS ROM if you have i9100 Model.
try dialing wipe code, it might fix your csc issue.
or try changing csc manually.
search is your friend. there also an app for S2 csc in market

Flashing a stock rom to an unbranded phone - OTA

EDIT: The headline is supposed to say - 'Flashing a stock rom to a BRANDED phone'
Hey guys!
I've recently acquired a Galaxy S3 yet my carrier has decided to brand the phone (Three). I've been talking to them about getting them to debrand it but they will not do it for free, and they say that once debranded I won't be able to receive OTA.
My question now is: Will I, if I do it myself, be able to flash an unbranded stock rom located on the internet using ODIN and still receive OTA updates, or is there something preventing me from doing this?
Cheers
Mikkel
I had the same issue (orange),
Go to SamMobile download the latest unbranded btu (uk) version 4.1.1 and flash with odin.
As you flashing the official stock firmware you don't need to be rooted and your counter won't change.
You will then get the ota updates from Samsung and not your carrier or you can just keep flashing the latest versions as above.

But I suppose I have to find one that comes from my country, which is Denmark. The only one I can find on sammobile appears to be a branded version from Three.

Go to the Sammobile.com site then the firmwares link and select
Type - Smartphone
OS - Android
Model - this will be your phone for example GT i9300 - Galaxy S 3
Country - and from the drop down lost select Open Europe OXA
That is non branded European version 4.1.1, it should work fine for you.
Totally up to you this is just a suggestion to get rid of the branding from 3 which is the only version listed under Denmak itself in the country list
Use CHECKFUS to download any current firmware from Samsung and flash via Odin .
jje
Thanks a bunch guys. This is great help!
Before I start flashing the rom is there anything I have to do? Do I have to backup/wipe/reset the phone or do I simply start download mode, connect it to my PC and flash the new rom using Odin?

Ah ok....but it is safe to flash it even it is official firmware from those country? coz im leaving here in dubai. maybe it is not compatible?
As long as your phone model name is I9300, it's fine. They just contain some country-specific files but it will be compatible. For example, I was using the Polish official firmware on my UK phone, until the UK one came through yesterday.

if your model is GT-i9300, it is completely safe.. but you won't be getting any regional updates for this matter with Kies
The only thing that must be of little concern is the radio and of course OTA updates

[Q] Help needed, flashed and now i have a KOR csc

Hi there! I need help please.
I got an S3 with a Vodafon-Italy firmware. Since I was experiencing a lot of freezing problems lately, I decided to flash the english firmware (I9300XXEMB5_I9300OXAEMB5_BTU) that everyone said fixed these problems. I followed the guide on here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969) and everything went fine. Problem is, when I connected the phone with kies, it said i still had OMN (vodafone) csc. So i decided to hard reset the phone and flash it again, and now kies says I have KOR csc. Why the flash wont give me a BTU csc, which is the one for the firmware I flashed?
What bothers me is that if I ever need to use warranty, I'll have to flash back the original firmware (Vodafone-Italy with OMN csc), but I guess that even if i flash that I guess I'll still get a KOR csc.
So my question is: what did i do wrong? Why do I get KOR? And how do i fix it?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me...
PS My cell isnt rooted, and I rather not root it, so using some tool to change the csc I guess won't work.
BTU firmwares have KOR as the default CSC.
Also, questions are better off in the dedicated questions section.

First of all thanks for your help... but are you really sure about this? I mean, kies says I won't be able to update my firmware... and I guess that happens because it shows as KOR... which would mean that every english user with a BTU firmware wouldn't be allowed to update with kies...it wouldnt make much sense tho... shouldnt they be marked as BTU? If what you say is true, tho, that means that If I flash back the original Vodafone-Italy fw i'll get back OMN... is that correct?

I'm sorry I posted here because it's the same forum where I read the flash guide... If any moderator wants to move this thread somewhere else, sorry for the trouble.
when a hard reset is done, the CSC resets to factory settings, in this case "KOR" (Korea).
Search on Sammobile for the Vodafone-Italy fw and flash via odin.

Thanks for your help.
I'm kinda new to this world so sorry in advance if I ask a stupid question.
If I understood correctly... the BTU firmware by default uses KOR csc, so when I did the hard reset with that fw installed, the csc was set to KOR.
Once I flash the Vodafone-Italy fw back, and I do a hard reset with that one installed, the csc will be set to the csc that that fw uses by default, which should be OMN (I9300XXELLA_I9300VFGELL3_OMN).
Is that correct? Thanks again!!
We all learn from each other
After flashing the fw you require, a reboot is enough
Make sure your phone is fully charged or at 80% of battery before flashing.

Mmmm why you say a reboot is enough? I mean... if my csc now is KOR and I flash the vodafone (csc OMN) firmware, after a reboot it'll still appear as KOR... correct? As you said, only with a hard reset the s3 will change csc to the default one used by the firmware.
Just asking to see if I understood how it works... thank you again.
Your csc changed to KOR because you did a hard reset. So installing the italian fw will replace KOR with the csc of italian fw.
You could not update via kies after installing the UK fw is becase your phones csc and the fw csc should match to update via kies.
I use kies only for backing up my phone and use odin to flash new updates.

The ROM you're using is MultiCSC and KOR is set as default. Use app from market called CSC changer and choose BTU from list. F.RESET and all done. Your new CSC will be BTU. If you want CSC-OMN then you need to get right ROM and flash it with Odin.

If you haven't got root access then yes, won't work but other than that it works!
