[Q] samsung vibrant clockwork recovery help. PLEASE! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello every one, I have a galaxy s vibrant sgh-t959, im trying to upgrade to icecream sandwhich, but i cant get the CWM recovery to work,
my phone has
FROYO.UVKB5
T959UVKB5 FIRMWARE
AND ALTHOUGH I INSTALL CWM RECOVERY THE RECOVERY THAT COMES UP IS SAMSUNG RECOVERY E3.
I WOULD APPRECIATE THE HELP ON HOW TO INSTALL THIS, BECAUSE EVERYWHERE I LOOK THEY ASSUME CWM RECOVERY IS WORKING.
THANKS!

Hi,
You can get the Clockwork Recovery (Update.zip) and place it on the root of the internal SD.
Push the Volume-Down + Power until you see the Vibrant come up and let go of the Power but keep ahold of the Volume-Down button. This will boot you into recovery. (If you are on Froyo Bootloaders, then it is Volume Up AND Down + Power) Can be tricky, so try it a couple of times if it doesn't work the first try.
Tab down to Reinstall Packages and click it. Let it run. If it gets back to the Blue Recovery, you might have to do it again. This will install the CWR that you put on your internal SD that you downloaded earlier. The recovery will go from Blue (stock) to Green (CWR).

Happy Flashing !!!

Actually you're on Froyo so you need to install the patch for the 3e recovery for it to be able to properly boot into CWM.
Install the patch from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
Then put the update.zip in your internal storage. Boot into recovery, perform "reinstall package" twice, you will see the CWM, which is only temporal until you reboot.

[Q] Flashing ROM with Macbook

hello all,
Just flashed this ROM using clockwork, only problem I ran into was clockwork will not reboot into recovery. Instead it reboots into samsung recovery.I would like to re-flash ROM. I am new to this, I was an iPhone user and it was pretty simple to reinstall operating system.
I use a macbook with snow leopard, what is going to be my best option to re-flash with the macbook. I have read about Odin, and ADB. But not really sure which to use or how to use them for just flashing a custom ROM.
Any help would be great!!!!1
RAMROD
Search "boot into recovery"....using buttons.
Power off
Hold vol+/vol- (keep holding)
Hold power (keep holding all three buttons)
Wait vibrant screen...wait for black...wait for second vibrant screen and release power button ONLY.
Should be set.
OR
Search for OS X...you can use Terminal to manually flash/reboot/etc. through utilities. Be careful though, the commands are slightly different.
I'm running OS X 10.4 (tiger) and never have to use the computer (outside of TGA_Gunman's one click root program)...everything can be done through the phone in most cases.
I have no problem getting it in this mode. I am trying to get it to boot into clockwork recovery, and the only thing that is loading is the stock kernal recovery menu.. So I am looking for a method that I can do it with my macbook. I have searched in google, and found other tutorials for other phones, but not the vibrant. If you know of one please let me know..
thanks
in sammy recovery hit 'reinstall packages' (may need to do this more than once) and it will reboot you to clockwork. then flash through clockwork like normal. this is why you need to leave the update.zip file on your sdcard after installing clockwork.

I never removed the zip file from sd card, in fact while looking at the files contained in clockwork mod file. It contains the same files as my other Vibrant that is running fine. Just doesn't have Bionics Obsidian 2.2 running on it..
I tried what you said about clicking on re-install and did that 5-6 times. That didn't improve the problem.
thanks for the idea,
Back to the original Question, what is the easiest way to load different rom on my phone with my macbook?
Does the phone still boot up normally? If so, open Rom Manager and select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". Then select your device. Reboot into recovery and if you are still in the stock recovery, hit "Reinstall Packages". If that doesn't work, then I have no idea...

[Q] How to install Clockwork mod revovery on newly rooted and updated to KA6 2.2?

i looked at the main how to root and clockwork one, so pl no links but a freindly noob guide, thanks
Easiest way is to download ROM Manager from the market if you already have root.
From ROM manager, hit 'flash clockwork recovery' and then all should be gravy.
Reboot into recovery via the power menu (if the option exists) or by the hardware buttons (hold the vol up/down buttons while powering on)
From there, if you boot into a recovery that's not CWM, then hit reinstall packages and reboot. You should get there.
Good luck
it says failed to verify whole file signature installation aborted
check the thread...

having a hell of a time with the same issue.... I have a Vibrant Galaxy S updated to froyo KA6 using kies. I've endlessly searched and read forum posts and i gather that the froyo has issues with not allowing clockworkmod recovery because of problems with signature check(?). Tried the 3eRecovery installer which is supposed to fix it, but the only difference is when I flash recovery from CWM and reboot to recovery and reinstall files, it no longer gives me an error message, but reboots back to stock recovery.
So far, this is what i've done:
Upgraded to 2.2 with keis mini
rooted with oneclickroot
downloaded rom manager in the market
flash clockworkmod recovery
reboot into recovery, reinstall files (gives error message)
used 3e_recovery_installer
(supposed to fix the issue, no longer get error, but still stock recovery)
Is it really this difficult or did i miss something somewhere? Thanks for any help...

follow that guide it will take u less then 10 min to go back to stock eclair with odin and flash it recovery from download mode and u will be rooted. its so easy that i do it before each rom as its very pain free and fast and it gives me a clean fresh install.
GOOD LUCK

[Q] Help Installing 1.9

Hello, I need some help trying to install the 1.9 ROM. I just purchased a Dell streak coming from an Iphone. Because of a deteriorating eye condition the big screen is a blessing. I bought it used on ebay. It originally had stock 1.6 which i upgraded to stock 2.2 (340) by downloading and running the pkg file. It was very easy to do. Im an att customer this is the relevant information regarding my version of 2.2 .
Version 2.2
Baseband GAUSB1A134031-US
Kernel 2.6.32.9
Build 14844
I have read through these forums extensively particularly the "how to" forums for days. After reading all the various variations for upgrading the rom (my phone lags and i want to see if the rom upgrade will fix this) I developed what I though was the proper procedure for installing 1.9. These are the steps i followed:
1. Install Android Drivers
2. Enter Fastboot mode
3. Installed Clockword Mod Recvery
4. Loaded the install txt file and 1.9 zip file on root of sd card.
5. Flashed the Clockword Mode Recovery IMG using fastboot. Fastboot said recovery was "done"
6. Rebooted.
7. Went into recovery mode by pressing Volume UP and Down and power button
8. Chose option 2 upgrade from SD card.
now its my understanding that doing so was supposed to take me to the clockmod recovery screen which would then give me the option of upgrading from the zip file. Instead I get a message in light blue which says in part
"Android System recovery utility GAUSb1a134031
To perform emergency software recovery you will need to insert SD card"
I then pull the battery and reboot and it boots up fine into the stock 2.2.
Now the question is what am i doing wrong. Im thinking that maybe its the baseband? and that I need to flash a new baseband. If anyone can help it with some guidance it would be much appreciated.
3.
Once you flash Clockwork you cannot let it boot. The OS will over-rite Clockwork. As soon as you flash Clockwork, hold both volume buttons down while it is rebooting. Selet option 2 and you should get the Clockwork menu.
Thank you i will give that a try
Didnt work. I do the fastboot recovery flash which it indicates is done. I then give the flashboot reboot command As soon as it starts rebooting i hit the volume up and down and power buttons but it still reboots into stock 2.2. I don't even get the recovery screen
Fuigured it out i only needed tto hold the volume buttons. Now im there thanks again
Hmm, you should be getting a recovery menu either way. The only thing I can think of is to try and hold both volume and power buttons down at the same time. This is how I normally access the recovery menu when not flashing the reboot comand. If thats not it, may be an issue with the recovery image. Have you considered StreakMod Recovery?

Ok, Cool!

Can't get into ClockwordMod Recovery, need help please

I keep trying to get in, but I'm always getting sent to the stock recovery... this is what i'm doing
first I installed root access... Update.zip is in the internal memory (if i put it on the SD card, when I click reinstall it says file isn't found . . . ?), Update.zip is still there (not sure if I was supposed to remove it)
1. Open Rommanager
2. Clck Flash Recovery ClockworkMod Recovery
3. Pick Vibrant (MTD)
4. Pick ClockworkMod 2.x
5. Click Reboot into Recovery
when I do this it brings me to the stock recovery, tried about 3-4 times now with no success
Question: Are you on the stock rom?
If so, you can select "Galaxy S Vibrant" in Rom Manager to flash CWM, then reboot to recovery. The MTD one I believe is for 2.3 roms that can't boot into CWM via 3 button combo.
first off u have root correct? u have to install packages twice first. Then u will end up in green recovery. Then from green recovery flash any rom. But if ur trying to flash cm, u wanna pick 3x not 2x.
Ur update package could be corrupt, get a new one.
nevermind, i figured it out, i just simply rooted it with CWM manually instead

[Q] Accessing Bootloader and Clockworkmod Touch Recovery 5.8.1.5

Hello guys,
I'm sorry to bother you, apparently with some more newbie questions. I just got an SGS2 GT-I9100. Finding the right kernel, flashing it and rooting the phone was actually easier than rooting my HTC Desire. I also installed CWM Recovery through Rom Manager and flashed a custom ROM (CheckROM RevoHD) just to practice.
However, with my old HTC Desire, I have the option to boot into Booltloader by pressing volume down + power button. From there I can go to recovery, or reboot the phone or whatever (in case I have problems or want to perform nandroid backup/restore).
I was wondering if the same applies to SGS2? I've tried all combinations (vol up + vol down + power or vol up + home + power) but I can only go to download mode. I also flashed through Odin GT-I9100_OLD_BOOTLOADER.tar.md5 but nothing changed. Is there a bootloader mode at all for SGS2 like there is for my HTC.
If I mess things up flashing ROMs lets say, how am I supposed to get into recovery by using a combination of buttons?
Also I downloaded from the official website the clockwork touch recovery... a zip file named "recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.5-galaxys2".
Can anybody please explain me very shortly how am I supposed to flash this file?
It is a zip file so Odin would not flash it. I tried to install it from clockwork recovery as zip file. It said "successful" but when i entered recovery again, its still the old non touch version.
Thanks in advance for your time and help... much appreciated.

Your "boot into bootloader" is something similar to "boot into recovery" for the SGS2.
To boot into recovery mode, just press Volume UP + Home + Power buttons as long as recovery menu appears.
There you will find the options for normal reboot, backup and restore, wiping, fixing things, etc.
The bootloader itself in "open" for the SGS2. So no need to flash another bootloader.
Only if your are on Gingerbread (GB) and have a USB Jig to reset the flash counter, you have to flash the old GB bootloader.
If you want another ClockWorkMode (CWM) recovery, e.g. with touch recovery, then you need to flash a kernel containing this recovery.
For the SGS2, the recovery mode is build/contained in the kernel.
As long as you are on a custom ROM, you have to find a kernel, which is compatible with your ROM and containing the recovery mode you want to have.
Try SiyahKernel, as it is compatible for nearly all available ROMs and the latest (ICS) versions do have touch recovery.
Good luck !
