since ICS htc made phones with 3 keys back home and tasks while samsung and LG made back home and menu and long press on the home key take you to tasks...
so my question is that some old application that does not have the 3 dots at top that replacing the menu key let you access setting and more only by ptessing the menu key so....
my question is how does it work?
thank you for your answer
To get rid of the black settings bar, there's an option in settings. After that's changed, you have the option of short pressing the recent apps key for settings and long press for multitask/recent apps or vice versa.

but the ics's three buttom is back home and multitask
i am wondering that can someone mod menu buttom to multitask buttom?
when i press menu and i will open multitasking screen just like original ics
and sorry for my poor engliah
Here you can see what has happend to the menu button.
There where you need it, it is a little button on the right corner or on playstore right left corner.
But the optiones are not away, in ICS you've got more options!
You still need that menu button for legacy apps, otherwise you couldn't access the menu.
Long-pressing home button still acts as a multitask button.

I'd prefer the option to use the menu button as a multitasking button, get the settings icon in proper ics apps, and long press for menu in legacy apps. Is that option available?

Dear Developers,
I got a quick question:
is it possible to change the function of the menu button to the muti tasking function instead?
if so is it possible to be a APK file format and installation for it to work on a stock phone?
if no, then i guess it has to be rooted? if thats the case, does that mean most applications will lose the menu button? cant be the same as the Nexus phone where all applications has a on screen menu button?
OR just do a swap between the two functions? holding down the home key gives the menu function whereas the menu function gives the muti tasking function.
thanks in advance,
Best Regards,
E
It's possible, but I don't know how the menu button will show up then, and having that ugly HTC-esque navbar with one button is not the way it should be...
sorry, it i just me or anyone else finds the menu button pretty useless.
holding down the home button to bring the multi tasking up is too slow in my opinion.
would be great if someone can just switch the two functions of menu and multi.
thanks tho

I dont find is useless.
What i find useless is you can get the same menu just by pressing on your homescreens or longpress there, so 3 ways to get that menu up.
On the matter on what button brings up the task manager, i really dont care. After a few days i got used to it being behind the home button.
hi.
I currently have a Samsung Vibrant. It has home, return, menu and search keys.
Now I look at the One, and I can see it has only the home and return keys, and doesn't have the menu key which is important for most apps.
Am I missing something?
Also the search key, I know some apps that don't have a search button and only way to search is to use the capacitive key. Would it make a problem with the One?
Thanks.

They are pushing to get rid of the menu button and have Devs incorporate it into their apps some way
If it doesn't have one you can hold down back to open the menu
Most apps already have a search bar if needed anyway

I take it you haven't seen any new smartphone since ICS came out. Google got rid of the menu and search keys, and instead added a multitasking key. However, in what seems like the most ridiculous move since the LG Optimus Vu, HTC decided to get rid of the multitasking key, which can now be emulated by double tapping home.
Also I heard you can initiate the menu key by doing a pull down gesture. Just don't include the notifications bar on your pull down.

My Home screen style is: Drawer
System navigation key combination is: 3rd from the list
So, when I press the round HOME button it takes me to the Page 2 right away rather than to Page 1 ... Why so?
I must have changed something somewhere ... Goggle Play Service perhaps?
Under Apps, I did Reset app preferences and Show system processes but it didn't bring back the correct Home button function!
Any help please?
Thanks
