I know about differences between HOX and HOX+. However, why cannot we use HOX version of clorkworkmod recovery?
(Maybe this question has been already asked and I missed information, but after a hard search I didn't find anything!)
Because the kernel's needed are different

Look at the link in my signature. It was featured on xda portal. It will root any ics rom if you have a cwm image

I am not sure the cwm will work. You can try it. Both phones are very similar and recovery is overwritten on reboot, so no permanent change to phone. Let me know on corresponding thread if it works

The temporary CWM recovery should be fine.
Don't try to use any kernels with CWM recovery built in that are meant for the I9100 on an I9100G though. It won't work, and you'll likely have a boot loop, or get stuck on the boot screen.

You cannot flash over CWM, only replace it temporarily. It's part of the kernel.

No, it has 5.5.xx but the latest CWM recovery is 5.8.x.x
It can't be THIS hard to flash a simple recovery. Someome please shed some light.

Honestly, if you want answers so bad do some research. Nobody is going to spoon feed you. People are trying to help you and you're still freaking out.

Honestly, I looked over 50+ pages on Google, please don't teach me how to do my "research"
Maybe you should do YOUR research before not knowing something and accusing others.
When did I freak out? Did I go "WHAT THE HELL WHY IS THIS STUPID RECOVERY THING SO HARD OMG I WANNA RIP MY HAIR OUT"?
No.
In my post did I say "Give me step by step noob instructions on updating CWM recovery"?
No.
I simply asked normal procedures required to update CWM recovery.
Did you come to this thread, act like an idiot, accuse me of not doing research, and gain a couple of "Thanks" for no reason?
Yes. Yes. Yes.
Next time, before you start accusing people and have a douche bag attitude, think twice before posting.
I do not need any help from XDA, thanks for the help to the people who posted, & I'll go ahead and find a different forum that actually has nice members who don't have attitudes like you. Have a great day everyone.

This qualifies as a freak out.
You were already told earlier in the thread by nicholas1520 that recovery is IN the kernel. So you cannot permanently update your recovery. (unless you compile your own kernel)
The accusation you didn't do your research is a sound one. This has been answered TONS of times. Throwing a tantrum doesn't make you right. It maybe could have been worded nicer, but he was right.

Hey guys..I got the sgs2 from a couple of days to try it out ..so I have a couple of questions...
What's a firmware ??does it affect flashing ROMs or kernels ?
How do I flash a kernel ?
What's Odin?
Does cwm come with the kernel ?
In case i got stuck in a boot loop and I didn't have a nandroid backup ..is there any other way to restore phone to stock ??
does every ROM need a certain kernel ??or all on the same one
Am I able to flash all ROMs that are in the development section
Sorry for asking lots of questions ..but I wanna know what I'm doing ...
Thanks in advance

I personally think it's quite weird you don't press the thanks button for TheATHEiST, but when you get an answer you like you actually do. These all are the basic questions when it comes to rooting and flashing etc., and you clearly didn't seem to take the effort to read and search for yourself.

There, +1.
Now everybody calm tha funk down
So i just rerooted my thunderbolt and flashed cwm. The cwm verion is v4.0.4.1
and i read a post about cwm not backing up ics because i guess there are more than 10k files. But i didnt understand how they tried fixing it. Is there an easy way? i have ics and am not sure what is happening. the device hangs at backing up system and the bar is gray with not scrolling indicator. Please help, i want to try the official ics rom debloated and other roms.
Im not sure if i need to update my cwm version.
You need to flash a different recovery. I prefer 4ext personally but twrp is free and up to date as well. There are also issues with CWM not wiping correctly and causing a lot of issues on people's phones.

OK so I have a quick question about flashing kernels. I want to flash a new kernel for better battery life I know I do that in my recovery like a ROM. But what does it mean to fix permissions and where do I fix them at and how do I fix them?

The instructions should tell you where and what to change. Then use Root Explorer to browse to the file or directory and change it. Although most kernels are flashed via Odin as far as I know and am used too.

What kernels have you been flashing through Odin??? Only one I can think of is the pre-release one for 2 mins while you unlock the phone.
I've been doing all mine through TWRP. So far used faux's and KToonez's kernels

I haven't flashed any yet. The most I ever did was on my S3 trying a few roms with nandroid backups.
