[Q] What's The Best CPU Clock Speed for Daily Use? - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Title says it all. What's The Best CPU Clock Speed for Daily Use? At the moment I'm at 1.2GHz by the way. By best I mean highest without burning out ect. Cheers in advance.

Noone will be able to tell you what the best speed for your processor is because of the variations between processors even in the same batch. Besides, define "best"? What's best for you? The most stable? The quickest? In computer industry overclockers follow this rule - keep overclocking until the processor starts to fail, then either overwolt and make it stable or decrease the frequency slightly. Extreme overclocking involves extreme overwolting and pushing your proc. to the highest frequency it can possibly go. Different processors can handle different speeds because of the slight variations in them. Whenever you overclock you should remember that you are shortening the live of your processor and the more you overclock, the more you do it, due to the process called electromigration, your processor will gradually start to "leak" current.

i made 2 profiles.. use 1.5 ghz for games and surfing and 1.2 ghz when i use for playing videos or music..
Sent from my YP-G70 using xda app-developers app

Im using 1.5 Ghz @ 1.3V ( stock voltage) . Runs just fine , get about 2500 points in quadrant and fairly good battery life .

For those, who only uses the music function could go this way:
Set with antutu min 100 mhz max 200 mhz and ondemandx or interactivex governor. Battery life should be very nice. Poweramp was a battery drainer, but since 4 months of using this setup Pamp only uses 2-3% per hour. Battery life @standby is also better.

How do you guys make it to 1.5Ghz?
Im using Chips 1.5 and RJ's kernel..
using setcpu and no frills i can set it to 1.2Ghz..and cant go beyond that as there are no other options..
i've also used tegrak (not the ultimate version) and still the same..
I'd greatly appreciate if someone could help..
thanks in advance!

You guys use some high clock speeds lol. For music and videos you can get away with 200 mhz min to 400 mhz max and have no issues. Web surfing I keep both a 400 mhz and for gaming (like snes and genesis emulator no 3d ) I use 400mhz min to 800mhz max. I use smartassV2 or ondemamd for the governor.

u must use ultimate version of tegrak..i use 1.5 ghz on 1310 mv core and internal 1125mv ..that is just tiny more then stock voltage (1300 and 1100) so i get veru good speed and good batery life...and i dont now how u use player on such low fq and so very slow speed and heavy lag..i use mine on 1.5 ghz and it gets all day no probem and i fill him when i go to sleep..

Can anyone get Nova 3 with Chainfire going smooth with like 1.6GHz?

for 5.0 but I think I could do it for other devices as well.
It was smooth for me w/o chainfire with standard 4.04 kernel for our device

Undervolting on Siyah 1.5..2

Hey All,
I have installed Foxhound ROM for ICS and loaded the Siyah Kernal.. The ROM itself is great, I have also overclocked the CPU to 1.7Ghz, But i see some battery warming issues. I have installed NStools as well.
Any recommendations what under volting can i use with this config?

Why overclock,do u experience any difference in speed in daily use, except in benchmark..
Btw an app is installed with siyah called STweaks,it controls all kernel features.read first page post 4-5 by droidphile, excellent guide

Yes I have observed changed after overclocking.. The s3 boots up way faster plus for gaming it showed me real difference specially playing real racing 2 with 1.4 and 1.7..Now I only need to undervolt correctly so I can save on my batter life.. Can we set a custom voltage for 1.7 below stock values??

stock voltage for 1.7 ghz is 1400mv, try undervolting by -50mv to -100mv and stick with one which is stable
use setcpu
keep changing it down in increments of 12.5mv and do the strees test keep doing that till u find a value that works
ps once u've done that let's us know what it is.
1088mv for 1200mHz that's the top freq I use so I never played with the voltages for the freq above it.
Hope this helps
remember thanks if it did

k did the testing for ya
on MY DEVICE (Every device slightly diff)
1704MHz voltage 1288mv (put in 1290mv it will round it down)
if that don't work or is not stable for u then the next step up is to 1300mv .
775 mv for 100MHz .
hope this helps and if it did thanks is only 1 click away.

[ Thread ] Your underclocking recommendations.

We all know that our ace sucks on battery & after finding that calibration is a myth, I was kinda broken The only thing that helps us long on our battery is underclocking. There was no thread for this, so I decided to create one ! So guys, please share your frequencies, governors, I/O scheduler, rom name, kernel used & battery life for varied usages ( less, moderate & heavy ). If underclocking hasn't decreased your performance but at the same time if it has improvised battery life then it's worth sharing ! Help people love their battery that hate it like hell now

Why underclock the whole thing if you can just set a screen off profile? Using the phone while under clocked won't really give much battery. The Ace is a battery hog during screen on either way no matter what clock it's set at. All of you guys use your phone differently so that's why your battery usage varies.

Rom : PacMan Rom v22.0.0
CPU Max : 748MHz
CPU Min : 122MHz
Governor : Smartass V2
Stable and less never heats (which means less crashes)
I use Screen off Profile for underclock, Smartass, around 700 max and 200 min..
Dont use now as I amon ultimatum rom and I am testing it so dont need that but mostly I use these settings and Battery lasts 2 days
I dont play games
After trying out many ROMs and trying various combinations of Clock Speed and Govnors, i personally feel that:
FOR BETTER BATTERY LIFE- Clock Speed: 245 - 787, Govenor- ONDEMAND (am getting 1d 5 hrs battery life with 2 hrs talktime, full time 2G connected and 3 hrs wi-fi browsing using Battery Extender 1.2)
FOR PERFORMANCE: clock: 245- 806, Govnor- SMARTASSV2
To save Battery you can further UnderClock it but I feel 787 is apt.

Running "heavy" games on Galaxy Player 5.0 [YP-G70]

So guys, how good does your YP-G70s do while running "heavy" games such as Asphalt 7, Modern Combat 4 and Nova 3, for example?
Most of the times I get huge lag while playing those games...some long freezes and quite annoying lags, even if I'm using Chainfire. I'm guessing this happens thanks to the fact that this device has only 376MB RAM, but that is just a rough guess. The lags occur even if I run games when I had more than 200mb free RAM, so I don't see how I could help it.
Also, please don't forget to post your system specs!
I'm currently running the GingerBread stock rom, overclocked to 1.5ghz and with a 256mb SD Ram Swap.
So, can you guys get a good performance while running heavy games?

Since our player is only single cored and only has 1/2 a GB of ram, performance demanding games do not work as well. NOVA 3 runs somewhat well, but Asphalt 7 is unplayable. Using a custom ROM is the best way to go if you want a bit extra performance.

Running on CM10.1 with overclocked GPU seems to work, Dungeon Hunter 4 which was jerky on stock based rom and custom kernel hardly helped but on CM10.1 with Sultan Kernel, it runs it perfect!
Using chain fire maxes out the graphics on games which causes extra lag such as on Nova 3

I got GTA vice city and it works better than my galaxy tab 2, currently using Mercurius reborn RC1 since it seems a bit more stable than sultan, any I/O Scheduler and CPU governor recommendations?
You have only SIO scheduler in my kernel
About governor, when you play then the performance should do the thing. It keeps your device at maximum frequency.

The ram is the biggest problem, when you fill the galaxy goes slow, if it had been larger, the performance they would have benefited greatly

[KERNEL][YP-G70][3.0.xx] Mercurius Reborn - DOWNLOAD AVAILABLE

My aim is to make kind of minimalistic, debloated kernel which will be perfect for daily usage and it will be speed demon whenever you would like to play some games
Please respect my time spend on doing that kernel and read at least those few opening posts
You probably would like to have the best kernel possible so please left here TONS of feedback and opinions, suggestions, etc
I won't write that my kernel is super and the fastest and that every feature/update give +50% performance, it is stupid attitude.
FEATURES:
*BFS (brain**** scheduler) - doesn't give too much cpu boost but make performance more stable
*fsync disabled
*o3 and ofast optimiaztion - I will stick to classy, old, good toolchains, I won't use LINARO ones because I don't see any point in doing so
*removed slowdown in downloading files when device is locked
*forced fast AC charging (device charges faster via USB)
*only available iosched is SIO
*440mb of ram - I won't fight for every mb 440 or 445 doesn't really make big difference and it is huge value already, but I will try to expand it in future
*20% UV for LCD
*changed readahead for optimal sd performance
*LOAD_FREQ (4*HZ+61) avoids loadavg Moire
*nonblocking for entropy tweaks and some entropy changes
*debugging diabled (gpu too)
*frandom
FREQUENCIES (cpu,gpu,voltage)
1520mhz - 253,3mhz - 1375000mV
1320mhz - 220mhz - 1300000mV
1096mhz - 219,2mhz - 1200000mV
800mhz - 200mhz - 1075000mV
400mhz - 200mhz - 1000000mV
TO DO:
*rework voltages, they suck as for now
*rework cpu frequencies - I don;t like removing 200mhz but was needed to fix SODs
*rework lowmemory killer and ram management
*find and add good scheduler or tweak on of existing ones and delete rest of them
*add BLN (backlight notification)
*tweak touchscreen - I have to find optiomal values
*other stuff
I now there are many things to do yet, but kernel is really fine to use for now. I have limited time because I have my finals ATM. cheeres and peace

Short answer/opinion:
Voltages should be higher to support more unlucky devices (like mine), we can undervolt next; overvolting kernel default values instead of UV to reach stability is not safe imho.
Frequencies like: 200, 400, 800, 1200, 1500, aren't good? GPU, asaik should be: 200, 200, 200, 220, 250, no float.
And about SoD (maybe can help): I'm currenty using untouched jackpot's kernel with range 100~1200 (stock voltages); SoD appear rarely, but not "real SoD", if I push some hw button for some seconds the device turns alive. I experienced real SoDs immediately after undervolt all the freqs. This make me think that is not a low frequency problem.
Where did you cherry pick BFS from? I haven't been able to find the 3.0.X patch for BFS so I've never added it

BTW, KOala, your kernel doesn't have fastcharge. The commit you cherry-picked modified the mach-herring.c file, not mach-venturi.c; to fix this, manually copy the changes made in mach-herring.c to mach-venturi.c.

Overclocking is not a universal feature; not all devices can handle the same overclock. Your device's overclocking abilities will be exactly the same between my kernel and KOala's kernel (unless our GPU frequencies are different from one another).

I use Xperia Ray and
For rooting:
I used eRoot, you literally connect your phone to PC and pres ROOT
Before that you have to enable USB Debugging in Settings->Developer Options.
After four green circles get checked your phone is rooted
For CPU control:
I installed Custom ROM and there i have "no frills CPU control" installed. I don't recommend you to do overclocking or do anything with your processor because you can brick and mess up your device if you don't know what you'r doing.
Also, man already answered, you can download do frills from playstore
If i helped you, please don't forget to hit Thanks button
Cheers
Google link for eRoot, I'm still not able to post links
If you want to decrease lag raise the minimum frequency. Overclocking does absolutely nothing except making your phone hotter and processor life shorter

The benefits of overclocking are still minimal.

CpU control lets u control ur phone cpu and its frequency and volatage.
increasing max freq. will increase speed but consume more battery.and risk of burning is also noteable.
so set it after doing research on ur cpu and itr limit.
and u need to be rooted and have a kernel to accses cpu
im using stock kernel. Can i overclock without flash custom kernel?
