I have an OTA update from Vodafone UK which won't install. I choose to install and my phone turns itself off and then I have to turn it back on whereupon it tells me there is an update to instal!
I unlocked by bootloader and tried to ADB the CWM for a One X (not One X+) and the recovery didn't work (I'm new to this ). I think this is probably the cause of my problem.
Can anyone provide the stock recovery so I can put it back, or is there another way to do this (maybe pu a different version of CWM on)? The One X+ was from Vodafone in the UK although I suspect the recovery is generic?
Thanks in advance.....

If you are on the latest Orange firmware (i.e. a 2.73 build) and rooted, there is very little to be gained by installing the generic firmware. Performance is probably going to be identical.
If you want a better performing version of 2.73, you should try Modaco's ROMs.

Dave

There is nothing wrong with the current Orange firmware.

Can you boot in to Android System Recovery mode (black background with a green menu) by pressing the 'Home' key whilst powering up the phone? If you can, it's simple to install one of the custom ROMs available.
If you have the Android System Recovery, download the latest Core ROM file from Modaco (current version is 2.7.1). It can be found here http://android.modaco.com/content/h...custom-rom-core-chinese-featuring-wavesecure/
Once the file is downloaded, plug your Hero in to your PC and mount it as a USB drive. Copy the downloaded zip file to the SD Card in your phone (don't unzip it)
Now, disconnect the Hero from the PC and power off the phone.
Hold down the 'Home' button and power on the phone (keep the Home key pressed until you see the recovery menu).
I would advise doing a Wipe data/Factory Reset first of all as this worked best when I moved from the updated UK Orange ROM.
Once the wipe is complete, choose the option that allows you to choose a zip file from your SD Card. On mine it's called 'Apply sdcard:choose zip'. You should then see the zip file that you copied to the SD Card a few minutes ago. Select it and follow the on screen instructions. Once installed, choose the reboot option from the recovery menu, your phone will reboot and will be running the new custom ROM
i have a uk htc hero graphite g2 originally locked to orange now unlocked and rooted using universal androot, i have downloaded and installed official ota 2.1 update now what i am looking for is a link to an official unbranded rom running 2.1 i have looked but then i run into links regarding radio for orange handsets ect please can someone point to the correct download link for the rom that i can install using the guide on
[Guide] Complete Newbie Guide to Root & Install a Custom Rom [Updated 26/08]
Thanks in advance

take the rom from there. its a generic 2.1 rooted. flash the update from recovery.
if you are unlocked, youll have no problem with the radio. afaik its the locked orange phones that can be picky with radios.
Moved to Q&A as not development
i have tried following instructions to put in recovery mode and get an error when i input text directing it to recovery file on sd card and if i use power and home i get an exclamation box on phone screen and nothing else even when i connect usb.
Brian, what you need to do is create a goldcard to change to WWE ROM. You then need to get the update that will be available once you apply this ROM.
my problem is a shell command /system/etc/install-recovery.sh this stops any custom recovery on reboot. any advice on what tools to edit or remove?
Hi guys,
I bought an LGP500 yesterday and I'm already messing with it *ofcourse* I'm trying to root the device and install some ROM's. At the moment I'm on Android 2.2.2 (V10h), so no rooting is possible (yet).
I figured out I have to flash back to the original ROM, and then start flashing to a prefered ROM, but I can't find an original ROM from Belgium in the list The_ERROR provided.
Could I just take another original ROM, fe. the one from the United Kingdom, root the device, flash another ROM and still have the possibility to have my Android phone in dutch language, or do the custom ROM's only support the English language?
Thanks in advance!
Hmm, after some reading I think it should be possible since most custom ROM's are stripped from the European one..
Can someone still confirm this?
Have flashed my phone to the 10a UK version, but I get an android.process.acore error the whole time and I'm unable to download anything of the market (I need ASTRO file manager so I can run z4root).
Any tips?
Hi,
I also just bought P500; I am wondering since you flashed a completely different ROM, what are the dangers? I cannot find my original ROM so I was wondering if I will brick my phone if I just use another one.
Well, I checked what software version my phone had (10h after the LG update) before the flash, and I found an according european original firmware 10h KDZ, so it's kindah my backup I guess. If anything goes wrong, I just flash my phone back to the 10h
I think there are no real dangers here, only not all languages are supported. I'm not sure though

1st install z4root then root ur phn after rooting i will tell u what to do...go ahead
The problem I have is installed z4root. The only way I know how to install an app from the SDcard is through ASTRO file manager, but somehow I can't download any apps from the market after the flash
Is there any other way I can install an apk from my SDcard (without root)?

Aha, I installed another original ROM (10a EUROPE), and I still got the same problem.
But I tried a reset (or how do you call that) by pressing POWER + VOL_DOWN + HOME, and my 10a was installed succesfully, with everything working like a charm.
Now I can root and flash to custom ROM's Yay!
If anyone else has problems, I'm glad to help you guys out.
After you flash your device down to 2.2, from 2.2.1, is it possible to go back to your original 2.2.1 somehow? is there a way to back this up before flashing to the original 2.2?
^^ no. nandroid backup is possible but only with 2.2 as it needs root & custom recovery.
Yes, you can find the original ROM's here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875881
I'm not sure which version represents 2.2.1 but I think it was 10c.. not sure though
I'm sure about 10a being 2.2 and 10h being 2.2.2
Good luck
should i install 2.2.2 for my phone ?
now using 2.2.1,maybe want to reinstall the rom again
coz my phone keep hang, example switch on phone hang, open an application and jump to homescreen and other else
and can i know the country code for malaysia ?
i can't find it at all
If you only want to update your phone (without using custom ROM's), you can just use the LGMobile update to flash your phone to the newest version
Hello everybody
A bit of backstory: I bought this HTC One Max from a colleague and rooted it. Now I'm not sure if replacing stock recovery with TWRP was part of that process or if my colleague did that beforehand... fact is, I keep receiving Android Lollipop update available messages but the downloaded ROM cannot be flashed with TWRP.
I'd really like to have stock ROM as I'm really tired of fiddling with custom ROMs. Question is, how do I get the latest OS for that phone on there? Do I have to overwrite TWRP with a stock recovery and will the phone still be rooted afterwards? Or do I need an adjusted Lollipop ROM in order for the flash to work?
I'm located in Switzerland and the phone was never SIM locked, if that makes any difference.
Regards,
Marco
I have an Xperia Z5 Compact with German T-Mobile factory ROM, which is not too much use to me coz I don't live in Germany or use T-Mobile. I wanted to flash a stock ROM with no bloatware. Root probably later, I'd like to use the phone a bit first. It isn't simlocked btw, and was OTA updated to Marshmallow before I tried anything.
So I unlocked the bootloader, then flashed the recovery and boot images from the first post here without noticing they are old versions and further down the thread they are updated. Now I can get into TWRP recovery, but when I try to start the phone normally it freezes on the pink T-Mobile splash screen. Recovering from my Nandroid backup doesn't help... coz I only created it from within TWRP after I did this flash.
I can't use Flashtool, it says USB debugging is turned off. I guess what I flashed before has reset that to off. I tried following the Lollipop instructions here to turn it back on using adb, but I can't pull the file mentioned there. Anyone got instructions for doing the same on Marshmallow please?
Not exactly panicking here, but I really wish I practiced on my old HTC Hero before jumping in blind....

use adb and flash androkernel to fix the incorrect kernel that you installed. you can do that by renaming it boot.img and sending the command fastboot flash boot boot.img
i haven't messed with androplus in a while but if you were on marshmallow i believe v34 will work and if you were on the absolute newest marshmallow i think its v35 off the top of my head.
fyi you dont need usb debugging on to use flashtool, you can get into fastboot mode with no rom at all installed.
