i honestly don't understand. but if it's apps you want, then i suggest root explorer (paid), titanium backup, a launcher of your choice, etc. if you can clarify what you're asking for, then we can help out more.

can u explain what does each app?
basically...
rom toolbox is a kind of all-in-one app. you can change fonts, themes, as well as a built in "root explorer" and a couple of useful features too, iirc.
smanager runs scripts so you won't have to do it via terminal.
button savior...well...it's self-explanatory, i guess. you won't need to use your buttons (ie: back, menu home, power buttons) so it helps prolong the longevity of those.
tasker basically automates everything. for exampla, you plug in your headset, you can configure it so that your music app opens as soon as you do that. it does a lot of things too.
you can also have v6 supercharger or ram manager. it helps to manage your ram.
lots of great apps out there though. so i really have to suggest that you try them and find out which works best for you.

but which is better, v6 or ram manager?
just wondering
hmm.. tough one. ram manager is simpler. v6 has a lot more options, but if you're on stock kernel, you may not be able to upgrade your busybox. when i was on stock and gdx, i preferred v6. BUT i'm not saying it's better. just personal preference.

I don't think that method works because I tried uninstalling Rom Manager and it wouldn't let me. I think titanium backup can remove the apps, go try it out. I don't want to deal with that stuff so I just hide it in launcher pro settings..
use system application remover works best for me.
Some apps cant be removed, they are required for phone to run. You may remove the others with "manage applications" under settings.

Titanium Backup will surely do the work ,any application can be deleted ,but dont delete any system application that is needed by the system.
Use root uninstaller. Just be careful..

Slow with opening apps? Or slow user interface? It shouldn't be slow unless he has tonnes of apps.

Do not make him buy a new phone, this phone can be hella snappy actually!
Start by rooting your phone, you can easily find a tutorial just by searching the forum or via google.
My personal preference:
ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263292
Tweak: V6 SuperCharger Update 9 Beta 6.2.2 (tutorial here)
When installing the tweak, chose option 7 (agressive for 512HP)
APPS: Autostart (find it in market)), preventing useless apps to start, but you must have chose the apps manually.
Auto Memory Manager(find it in market), chose agressive and save the changes.
If he is new at these sort of stuff it could take some time to get it right but it's totally worth spending a day fixing it, he'll get a fast a snappy phone in long term.
Has he tried using the task manager to clear memory? It sounds like he downloaded an application that doesn't behave the way it should (memory/cpu hog). If clearing memory helps he has to find and uninstall the misbehaving app(s), i think there's an app called watchdog or something which monitors memory and cpu usage of all installed apps.
If that doesn't help, go i'd go for a reset. And before buying a new phone, give the custom roms a go because they do tend to increase performance quite a bit!
Thankyou for the quick replies everyone very helpful, he gets force closes on twitter and facebook all the time and also it just randomly shuts down aswell.

hi! regarding the suggested tweak? is there a detailed summary on how to use and instal this type of tweak? ive been reading the post and it seems it only has the overview.. thanks!
my advice is just forget all those mumbo jumbo tweak script. its already incorporated in cfroot kernel. its also doesnt make sense. all it does is doing the same thing. tweak vm dirty, tweak minfree, tweak stagefright and so on with the only difference is the fancy mancy name to make it looks yummy. people just install 2-3 script with different name when all it does is the same, and u actually already done it when using cfroot.
You might also want to avoid CM because it's unstable, just flash a stable custom rom that's still in active development. Make sure to get the latest cfroot kernel version.

They have, but UK operators are notoriously slow with pushing their own, branded versions. Especially on a midrange phone like the Ace. Avoid CM, especially Grif's as that has quite a few bugs. Some bugs in Cyanoace but not as many from my experience.
For starters, root your phone (or get a custom rom with integrated custom root), than download Titanium Backup from Market, and then uninstall all the unnecessary apps, also, delete app and internet cache. That all should make your phone better than new
I would agree about using cfroot.
Root phone with cfroot, titaniumbackup pro backup to sdcard, factory reset, download mode and flash latest stock rom from sammobile.com, root again and then restore apps only, only restore app+data for games.

Anyone here a fan of Catan? Bought the app and have a problem with it rebooting my phone every 20 minutes of play or so. Emailed the dev team only to get a response telling me to use a task killer to free up memory and included a link that says why Android doesn't need task killers. I find this kind of answer unacceptable as my wife's fascinate runs the game fine. Maybe there's a memory leak in the x2? I refuse to run task killers since they are not needed.
*Update 11/24
Attempted to use the V6 SuperCharger script to manage the memory better and lock the app into memory etc. It was a no go. Going to call the customer service after the holiday and see where that goes. I'll keep this posted when I find something.

be sure to make a nandroid first just in case. usually everything is just fine. but just in case u bootloop u will want to restore.
I recommend V6supercharger update8 to be safe. the newer versions are great but if u never used it b4 u r gonna want to use the "basic" version first to get used to it. and all the newer ones are just RC'S anyway(release candidate) they are not finals like update 8 was.
I ended up getting update9 rc4...having dome issues, but hopefully will get worked out. Issues:
1. From terminal emulator I get either permission denied (after an su) or file not found (spelled correctly in the correct directory)
2. From root file manager it seems to take over 10 minutes to run? It does add a supercharger folder and HTML file, but this seems like a long time for a script. (Hopefully I'm wrong and it's installing stuff too making it take longer)
3. Dled romtoolbox and added the script. It ran...but apparently I didn't copy the whole thing. I'll try that again if this pass of #2 above doesn't work.
Question: how do I know it is installed, and will the changes be there after every boot? I haven't needed to run scripts before this phone. Thanks.

sorry I should have specified.
get script manager from market and run it using that.
be sure to check run as root.
before running it u are going to want to go into script manager settings and turn off the "extra gestures " setting so u are able to scroll correctly. and u also want to turn on browse as root.
if u made a nandroid before running what u did I would restore that then do these things to be sure u have a clean install.
then after u reboot just run supercharger script again and it will tell u if it is installed and running correctly.
script manager has a free and a paid version in market.
that is the tool u want to use to run the script trust me. it makes it very easy
oh and by the way...since eclipse has init.d support there will be no reason to use script manager to run anything at boot. it will run every time.
if u happen to use one of the options to change minfree values((u don't need to do that.)) but if u do you will want to go ti system/etc/init.d and edit the 98tweaks file that comes with eclipse. u will want to delete the lines in 98tweaks that refer to minfree values(says something like "aggressive values etc...") but it isn't necessary if u just do the oom groupings fix and htk launcher.
Awesome, thanks. I did see reference to script manager, but thought I'd try it without first...guess I know what I'm doing next

yeah just make sure u change the settings I mentioned. if u don't turn off extra gestures setting it will type a bunch of random characters when u try to scroll. its VERY simple to use.
feel free to private message me if u need any help as well.
my gmail will alert me quickly so I can get back to ya
let me know if u need any tips its thanks giving...don't forget to hit thanks button...Hahaha ...just kidding ...im a thanks whore Hahaha...
also. I usually change the file type from pdf to .sh...just rename the file with whatever file explore u use. its bot necessary but I do it
when running it using script manager u will see an option to choose to use terminal emulator if you prefer it but script manager is very simple/easy to use. have fun with it. its an awesome script for making our x2 run how it should. enjoy
That's funny, I tried saying thanks...but the xda app doesn't let me. I'll do it later. Got the script working. The problem was that my file browser was executing the script...without any way for me to see the output and make selections haha. Script manager did the trick.
On another note, the Catan app still crashed. The first time was in 10 minutes, but only brought me to the home screen. The second one made it reboot after 20 like before. I think I'm going to try the oom group fix with bulletproof launcher instead of hard to kill. And change to the 513hp aggressive setting.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Oh, and I made sure to have all the settings correct
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
bulletproof launcher will lock home app in memory. kinda takes up ram by not allowing home to be killed. .
maybe try option 9(used to be on.older version) for different minfree settings ...
Well, thanks anyway ash. It was a good thought. I tried every setting, including different minfrees and even bulletproofing the Catan app itself. It still reboots after 20 minutes. I even went into the script after reboots to make sure the settings were sticking...they were.

This is a custom behaviour of Xperia Go casued by the lack of ram of it. I got it as well and i think everyone has. You are lucky you got a unlocked bootloader so my best guess would be for you to install a custom rom and a custom kernel with a better memory management because, from my experience, with the default ROM you can avoid that happening from time to time, and with a custom rom you can make it happen less times, but it will keep happening from time to time and it's very annoying

The easy way!
Just install Xposed Installer http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer
Run Xposed Installer from your phone and Install Xposed Framework (please follow instructions from Xposed Installer app to get the framework installed )
Search, Download & Install App Settings Module
Activate and open App Settings, search for your launcher (and your phone dialer too, maybe a good idea)
Enable App Settings for your app, look for Resident and enable it. Press Save icon.
If App Settings ask you to reset, do it.
Don't for get, you will need a rooted system.
FAQ:
¿Why does my phone slows down after locking some apps in memory?
Because you don't have enough RAM, please uninstall a virus called Facebook from your phone, it will help a lot.
I'm facebook addicted, my life depends on it ¿What can i do?
Get another gmail account just for your notifications and set it up in your facebook account. Open your facebook account in chrome if you want it full featured. Open in Opera Mini or UC Browser Mini for fast and low RAM consumption.
