Sound stopped working on my Slimrom - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Sounds and ringtones have suddenly stopped working. Didnt do anything nor did the phone fell or something. :S
Another issue when i try to play any media file, it wont play, it just stops and never plays. I can move along the timeline of music file but it wont play i.e. it remains paused but indicator stays along the timeline e.g. 3 minute song, i press play button, it stays on 00:00, then when i move slider to say 1:50, it goes there but nothing happens, just stays on 1:50. App does not crash. Same in video files.
Even system sound files are not playing, so i cannot receive any sound notifications from call or messages.
I've tried with handsfree too, nothing :s
Thanks!

Try to clear the cache in system settings music and clear the app data and cache hope it works

If that doesn't work, fresh flash with full wipe might.
???

Did a full wipe reflash...still problem persists.
I do not think its necessarily a hardware problem because it just wont play media files. As I said, all music and video files are on auto-pause... no matter what i do, i can slide on timeline, but they just remain paused.

Flash a different rom and use a different music/video player.

Tried and tried...exact same issue.
System sounds wont play (when msg or call)
Media files, music and videos remain in 'pause' state, tho I can drag to forward and rewind but they wont play, they'll remain paused and if i do it alot, app whatever it be, crashed. Exactly same problem in youtube in browser as well.

I see you must still be trying to figure out this issue. If reflashing doesn't fix it, it must be a hardware issue.
I am Jack's smirking revenge.

Dont think this is a hardware issue.
I came to this exact same issue in op after odin to stock through sticky, rooting it, flashing cm7 and then flashing slim.
Now no matter what backup i restore the sound doesnt work!
Problem with recovery? Odin tar ? Need help.

Music player problem

Hi, encountered a problem with the music player (stock) not displaying albums. All was fine until today when i opened the player to discover no albums. All are there if storage is selected or browsed through file explorer but non show up in the player.Dont recall doing anything that would cause a problem, they just semed to disapear.Any help would be great TIA.
Job done I removed all the music and copied it all back on again and it popped back up.
Just resetting the medialibrary would have done the same.
I did reset the library several times but it just would not show up. Not had the problem before and not had it since, but the fix worked so all good? Thanx for your input anyways.

Is it the pre-installed?
If it is.... you should try some other ,that could work better.
Maybe its a bug , that will be fixed on the next update.

The problem inst the actual player but the android media scanner, it seems to have problems with large media libraries, deleting and copying the files again does work sometimes but not always, best way to be shure you won't have any problems is to use Power AMP, you can find it in the market, that will never have that problem because it has it's own way of scanning the folders

Music just keeps stoping

Hi guys
Getting fed up every time I try to play my music it keeps stopping and I have to keep restarting the music.
I do not have my phone rooted at all.
Does anyone know why it's happening.
Thanks for any help guys

I have this problem as well, I figured it was because all my music was on a Class 2 SD card and the player would stop if the next file didn't load quick enough.
It only plays so much of the song then stops.
But I installed TSF launcher and played the music with no problems at all hmmmmm.
So what's going on?
Sent from my GT-I9300
yes i've experienced that random stop in previous XXALEF.
and no it's not because of the microsd card because i have a class 6 not class 2 as mentioned here. and i've used this microsd full of mp3s in my previous phones.
never experienced it again on XXALF6.
I'm on XXALF2
like I said my phone is not rooted at all.

Did you try a different music player?
Not yet will give it a try
Sent from my GT-I9300
Likely you are experiencing this due to low RAM. If you installed a new launcher and it works fine then the Touchwiz launcher probably uses a lot of RAM causing music to stop.

That just can't be... Proof is here:

I've only ever had this in the past using faulty headphones. Maybe not related to your issue though but never know.

Given up using my phone for music because of this, all music players gave me issues whilst browsing, just listen to the radio now. Crap. I'd try a reboot though, helped me shirt term.
You can always try on another rom (with more RAM free). Or try other headphones just in case
I have had this on a few occasions with the default player .What i discovered was a message flashed up (not persistent notification so probably missed it before) saying no track exists or track not found. Cant recall exactly the message but looking into it realised some tracks were in different formats so basically player couldn't read them so instead of moving to next shuffled track player just stops.
Other thing is some of my music files are in bit of a mess due to importing to SD cards ,phones etc using various apps and methods few wav Flac aac in the mix to.
So just an idea to check your music files with a file manger see everything is in order and which formats though i think default player is meant to play most formats.
Personally i mostly use Poweramp have for few years on devices, like the default player but cant scrobble and prefer widget with no background
I'd say this is a problem with the software. I have had this problem as well. Samsung will need to look into this for sure. If my music gets interrupted at all, i have to kill the process and start it again. I'm not sure if the problem lies in communication between BT, aux jack or what.
Maybe its due to the motion control..Go to settings>Motion>Go to "Turn over to mute/pause" option> Turn it off> Might solve the problem, Not sure!:silly:
Also try turning off "Palm touch to mute/pause" option in "Settings>Motion" itself

Interesting, think you maybe on to something with that palm touch thing, after all I've taken loads of screenshots in my pocket..
After upgrading my phone to ZSALF1 (hong kong bought), this seems to have fixed the problem with the music starting.
Incidentally, I also turned off the motion to capture the screen as I also had taken screenshots in my pocket. Annoying.
Cheers

[Q] Sound issues

Hello I have the Samsung Galaxy S2 gt19100. My issue is with my sound. When I first got the phone about a month ago everything worked fine. However a couple off days ago my sound except for in call sound does not work. That is I have no ringtones, no music, no sms notification sounds. It makes no difference whether I have my headphones in or not. The music player in particular seems to have the most problems. When I touch a song to play it, it doesn't play at all. It goes to the screen with the album's picture, but the song never starts. It always remains at 00:00. Eventually the music player will crash. This leads me to believe that it software issue and not a hardware one. I've tried rooting the phone and installing a new image, I've tried formatting the SD card, however this has not fixed the sound problem. Note: This problem existed before I started rooting and installing new images.
If anyone knows anything about this issue I would greatly appreciate any help. If I've left off some information you need please don't hesitate to ask for it.

Try a different media player for music... like winamp etc and post the results...

I don't recall installing anything new. This problem seemed to crop up after I started using headphones to listen to music. But now it makes no difference whether I have the headphones plugged in or not. Still no sound either way. I downloaded Winamp and I tried PlayerPro as well. Same situation. No sound and the song track doesn't advance and remains at 00:00

Download PowerAmp trial, from market.

First, backup your important data.
Then,
Goto Settings - Backup and Reset - Factory data reset.

Jelly Bean Audio Issue

ok i dont know if there is a fix and i had tried to find, but everytime i reboot i have have to open my audio play, whether it be google music or mog or any music player and then i have to kill it then reopen and music works. does anyone know of a fix for this to avoid in having to open and kill it on every reboot? thank u,
I cant be the only one with this prob. Come on
I cannot honestly say I have heard of anyone on JB that has such an extensive issue with Audio...
I have run JB since I got the device and besides some early issues that have already been resolved... it was still never as bad as your experiencing!
I can only say to try and go back stock 100%, then once you have go through samsung kies and do the emergency firmware restore/wipe thingy, then try going back to a freshly downloaded copy of the JB rom of your choice...
Sorry your having so many issues
It is actually only when i play music from the device not streaming. I flashed the same rom on a stock ics note and they have the same issuez.

That was really hard to read.
Are you saying that you have no sound upon booting, until you open a music file?
If so, what music effect apps do you have installed? Check in the sound panel, inside the settings app.
Do you have Volume+, MusicFX, or Volume Boost? Anything like that?

when i open up google music, i click on a file and it just hangs, until i kill the app reopen then the file starts up normal, this happens everythine i reboot i have to do this after i do that its fine until i reboot again, also when i stream music it is just find its only when i play music on the device, this also does the same with MOG
Audio hang on i717 with Jelly bean
I have the same problem but not with every music app. Power amp works no problem but the apps I use for audio books Mort Audio Book Player or Smart Audio Books do not work unless i force close and then reopen. I have sometimes avoided the problem by opening a book in an alternate method so I suspect it may be something related to how the apps store the position in a track.
I also had problems with Map my run a run tracking app that can announce when you have run a certain distance. Map my run would capture audio focus and never release it. So my music would go silent until reboot. I am running CM10 stable but think I'll go back to CM9 becuase i use the audio book apps a lot and am too impastient and easily irritated to keep having to force close the apps. I have even had to battery pull on occasion but probably only because I was too impatient for the phone to come back online.

[Q] MP3 only works if under a minute?

Now I know there are dozens of other posts stating that MP3's are not working, and yes I have googled and (xda'd?) it. But none so far have fix my problem. So the other day, when I downloaded an MP3 onto my phone, it wouldn't play. It was all fine and dandy until I realized that none of my MP3's would play. So from there, I tried a variety of common methods to try to fix this mess. I tried clearing the cache, formatted my sd card, deleted and transferred my music onto the phone (by the way, the MP3's DO work, I popped the sd into my cousins phone and my computer and they worked fine.), and factory reset. But for some reason, my ringtones still worked. That's when I realized that only MP3's under a a minute would play while others would not. So my question is how come my phone will only play MP3 files under a minute and how can I fix this? Please and thank you and I apologize if I broke any rules (I think I broke any from the video I just watched )
I'm on 4.1.2 Padawan ROM if it's relevant.
[EDIT] Well this may sound strange but I think it was my battery because I just switched batteries and now everything is working fine (except for occasional screen flickering but that's the result of 3rd party batteries (-_-#))
Have you tried a factory reset? I use MP3 files all the time. Even stream them via BT in my car to the stereo. Plays the entire song with no issues.

My Guess is its the rom you're using. Try a different rom. Some roms do strange things. factory reset wont touch the rom, and if your problem is still there its your best shot.
It's definitely not the rom because I had the rom for a while and the mp3 function worked for a while. It's just after I downloaded an mp3 file it stopped working

Well it definitely is not the rom at this point because it managed to survive CM10, oddly enough my ringtones which are actually longer than a minute still play. Is my music corrupted for only my phone?

U can rule it out ifu want but if it were me id try flashing a diff rom and see what happens. It doesnt hurt to try. If the mp3s work in other phones its obviously a software issue with your phone whether its your music app or something else. Try downloading a diff app to play your music and see if that works.

Maybe I was a bit vague, when I said "it survived", I meant the glitches. BTW Late response, but I stream MP3's over bluetooth as well, an A2DP headset to be exact.
