I've been wondering this ever since I checked out the LED on my S3.
I've had the GNexus before this and it appears that both these phones (GNexus and S3) have the same LED module.
However, the S3 isn't able to display most of the colors that the GNexus can. I can only think of one reason for that: Drivers.
I was wondering if some dev here can look into this and post here. I'm sure we'd all love to have access to all those colors!
The LED model seems to be LED-AAT1290
list out the colours mate?

I've seen Blue, Green and Red. I9300 XXDLID
I did a test using the LED color tester app, and the only real problem seemed to be the Orange, all others in the app worked fine.
White led always seems to be bluish white....
Indeed not at all white...sky blue color....

I'm using an International GS3 and well... First of all that LED tester app doesn't work since I have lightflow installed.
Now lightflow itself fails to produce most of the colors accurately (other than red blue green).
=============
I read in the LED Tester App reviews that the Tmobile GS3 can produce most of the colors accurately. For example one guy says that he can get PINK displayed correctly. For me, it appears as a rainbow-ish white lol
interesting...hope someone can do that

With Light Manager, I'm currently using white, blue, cyan, green, red, purple. When I was using Lightflow I was also using orange.
Using Light Manager, I've just tested orange, yellow, pink, In some cases the colours aren't perfect; yellow for instance looks a bit funny but still works and I can tell it's a different colour from others. I'm in Australia with international i9300.

Just explored this option.
Yep, we have terrible LED colours.
But then I use a few basic colours: White, Red, Green, Darkas**** Blue and my notifications are sorted out.
Can you guys try and bring this to some good devs attention?
Im sure this can be fixed with a lil programming magic.
Phew! I thought that my notification light was busted or something!
If you go to GO SMS settings and change the colour, it doesn't appear as it should! Red, Blue, and Green are perfect! The rest of the colours aren't perfect. In fact, it looks like there's a bit of blue mixed into most of them. It is very annoying and it makes the colours purple.

Its not
When I sold my GNexus and bought the S3, I didn't know that the S3 has a full-fledged proper Tri-color LED. I had seen internet videos but they all appeared so dim (weird). It was a very pleasant surprise when I saw this thing blink
I hope some dev gives this problem a look. They could tout it as a main feature in their ROM
Accurate LED Lights!

That looks more like a gunmetal color. But, since I don't speak that language, hard to say what color he said it was. LOL.
Looks better than any pebble blue GS3 that I have seen.

It's the blue one (which is i think nearly black really and what I am hoping when mine turns up! ) Lighting makes a huge difference as well as correct white balance and the screen you're using to look at things (unless properly calibrated). You can bet the advertising shots were lit in a way that really emphasised the blue. In the video you can clearly see a blue tint when he moves the phone around and it catches the light

Still not sold. Even the closeups show no fine lines or blue tint like EVERY other review in any other type of light has shown.

Its more on the Grayish Base !!! couldnt find a little bit of the blue tinge normally available !! ANd mind you its quite a well LIT ROOM !!! I have seen the Pebble blue in a far more darker room and could easily make out the Color

Look again at around 2min30... You clearly see the "fine lines" they are, just like the blue hue, more or less visible depending on how the light falls. Would be great if one of the German speakers on the forum could translate the gist of it

Fingers Crossed
Titanium Grey Galaxy S3 and NOTE have notification light (LED) defects. The LED does not show the correct colours due to the absence of a cut out of the grey material when the notification LED is. So the LED shines under the grey material which results in wrong colours being deployed and not being as bright. I own both a black and grey S3 and i can see a big difference in the brightness of the LED light. Also when for example a whatsapp message comes through, by default the notification colour is white, but the unfortunately its deployed light blue on the grey phone. Also yellow is displayed as green. This is my 2nd grey S3 and i have also tested a grey Note 2 with the same results.....
How can Samsung release phones like this ?
I don't think that's true for all. My grey note 2 is showing correct colors, and it's even brighter than my s3's as a matter of fact.

Would you be so kind to take a picture or video of your grey not 2 flashing white for me please ? Also from which country did you purchase it from and what colour is your S3 ? Thanks
Also when the notification light is OFF can you see it or is there no cut out in the grey frame . On my one there no cut out and its hardky visible unless its on or flashing
There is no cut out. And only visible when light is on. Mine is not the i9300 but i have the tit_grey i9305 and is exactly the same as my previous white i9300. The light is perfect

Every single grey S3 or note 2 had the same thing. Please download from the play store a app called "LED tester". Then check the white, yellow and orange colours and get back to me. You should see the white shines like cyan (very light blue), the yellow as green and the orange also like green. Please get back to me and let me know. Thanks !

No need for market apps.
Dial *#0*# and click LED.
Mine is pebble blue, but i tried a Note 2 grey in a shop and it displayed, green blue and red correctly from that menu.
There is no defect.

Yes, i already used this code (*#0*#) and yes RED, GREEN & BLUE are all working ( not as bright as the white, black, blue and red S3's that have the cut out. But the lighter mixed colours are the ones that dont work correctly on the grey phone. If you would like try this app (LED tester) on a grey S3 or Note 2 you will see what i mean.
i also have a standard white s3 in my house and it was mine previously there is no cut out where the led is,
And the led effects are the same.

I'm facing the same problem with my pebble blue s3. All colours except red, blue and green are more or less incorrect. Most of the colors infact show up as a mixture of two or three colours all appearing at the same time. It's such a disappointment to see all those lovely colors of lite flow not being displayed correctly.
Have you found out the solution to this problem yet? Is it even a fixable issue? I'd appreciate any help regarding this problem, as its driving me nuts. Thanks

Yes, that's widely known.
The question is why do we see these colours one by one, when other people don't experience that kind of a problem.

Exactly!! Does anyone have any answers?
As people have already said, none have a cut-out and the LED should be invisible when turned off. Don't know what gave you the impression to the contrary.
Not seeing it when it's off is, presumably, the whole idea of not having a cut-out.

Okay, let's leave this behind. Obviously that's not the problem.
So?
I have the same exact problem with my Grey Note 2....although I noticed something..the latest update for Light Manager fixed the problem completely and I now get correct colors... but my biggest problem now is with Whatsapp..if I don't add it to light manager it will still display wrong colors..and with light manager I can't configure the color for private messages or group messages..it's just one color for all which is not useful for me.

+1 I think this is cause by the opacity of the LED screen filter is too low so the color is not well combined before showing out its color And the color is spreading :crying:
I've used Light Flow, Light Blinker and Light Manager, and noticed that the S4 doesn't seem to display custom colors very well.
For example if I chose cyan, the LED light just looks blue. If I chose magenta or pink, the light just looks purple; choosing orange, light just looks yellow. Because of some insurance mix up, Verizon sent me two S4s, and I tested this issue on both phones and they're both like that. Is this a hardware issue? Or is there a way to correct it? I remember the custom colors on my S3 were very accurate. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I do not believe the HAM2 has an RGB led.... no blue whatsoever. Just red and green (and a mixture of the two for yellow/orange).
Kind of a shame, I would have liked to have seen blue in there and it would have given much more flexibility for notification colors.

Oh yes no blue just orange, green, red.
hi guys, i noticed that, despite we are in 2018, the led color are the classic RGB. it means that to make some secondary color, the led use two different color. Is that my impression? the led color, besides red, green and blue, are not crystal since it's evident that the led is the mixing of 2 colors
That's how all LED screens work. Well, some LED screens are called pentile, and use 5 LEDs per pixel, but LED screens all use multiple LEDs per pixel. Actually, LCD screens work the same way, too.

Yes, completely normal.

Not sure what the question is to be honest. Are you asking about notification LED or the screen?
I'm asking about notification led of course. Is it rgb? Because if set a secondary color, I clearly see that the led mixing two different primary color
Oh, sorry, I thought you were talking about the screen pixels. But the answer is the same. There are three LEDs, red, blue and green, and other colors are made by mixing those three. And every phone that has multiple colors for the notification LED does it the same way. LEDs aren't made in pink, or lavender, or orange.....
