Hi i have the chance to get rid of the tbolt and switch to the Droid charge while making $150 also, would you do it or stick with the Thunderbolt
Sent from my Infected HTC Thunderbolt using XDA App
Id say it depends if you're a ROM/Tweaking junkie or not. The Charge doesnt have near the Dev support that the Tbolt has. Its a fine phone though.
I'm on the same boat, mainly for the hdmi and battery life.. I'm not sure to make the swap or not

512 RAM....512 ROM....The Droid Charge will be a nice piece of machinery. I was initially going to get the "Charge" but stuck with my gut instinct. It pretty much is a personal preference. I find that a lot of Dev's are out there for the Thunderbolt (which finalized my decision). Go with your gut, it's going to be a solid phone either way.
For some reason the Dev's for Verizon carried phones never really flocked to the Samsung phones, its just the way it is.

If you don't care about custom roms, the Charge might be better for you. Better battery, better screen (imo). But don't hold your breath waiting for updates from Samsung.
But remember SGS2 is coming soon. If it does LTE, I'll proly sell my TB and get one. You can bet SGS2 dev'ing won't languish like the Charge

The Thunderbolt has 768MB of RAM as opposed to the Charge with 384MB. According to several reviews the Charge has problems with flash heavy sites while the Thunderbolt handles them just fine due to the extra RAM.
Am I the only one? I mean...I've been on Android for the past 2 years. Since the HTC Hero came out. I've went thru the Hero...the Moment...the Evo...the Evo Shift...the Epic...the Nexus S...and now the 3D. All of these phones I have rooted, modded, customized and ran thru the ringer except for the 3D.
I just dont have a desire to do it anymore. When I was rooting...I was doing something different to my phone every other day. Flashing a different ROM...flashing a different mod...changing something....constant wipes...ect. My purpose for rooting all the previous devices was to make them bigger, better and faster. I dont have that desire with my 3D. It honestly works wonderfully and its as fast as I could possibly want. I dont use Wireless tether and when I do its when I travel in which I dont have a problem paying the few bucks for the service as I need it.
So is it just me? Is root that popular to the majority? I'd assume yes on XDA but I wanted to ask.
Completely unrelated...I'm completely EXCITED because I found a sleek black gel cover for my 3D that will still fit in my leather holster. Complete protection and convienence...NIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!!!
Allow me to be the first to say: cool story bro.

I still had the desire to root, but I'm losing the need to flash. The 3d in stock form is great just the way it is.
I can definitely see your position. After a while the phones start coming with the features you want and its needed less to mod it because the feature is now built in.
I get that... I personally haven't hit that point and i know many others haven't either. But, I get it.
But, with the way some companies are doing business its still required by some of us. (Like requiring your phone to be a specific chipset, even though your phones chipset could easily handle the app.)
Are We Not Phones?
We are EVO.
ARE WE NOT PHONES?!
3DEVO!
I refuse to have an unrooted phone because I love creating my own personal themes. I try to change the look of all, or most of, my apps. I always change the font. I hate the bloat put onto our phones. I need to have a personal splash screen, boot animations, and my own sounds. I have to have my apps backed up w/ data in case some unforseen incident occurs that destroys my phone. I need wifi tether, or hotspot. Now, roms are what I don't really need, but I always find something that I want, so I start flashing.
They why are you here?
E3D
The time this consumes is almost reason enough to not root your phone
If it wasnt for themes and CM7 I dont think I would root the 3D either...
Hurry CM7!!!!
Okay, now to answer your question:
I am only rooted for CM7 and to try MIUI on capable hardware... Oh yeah and HAVS/UV kernels... And for tethering that I rarely used. Otherwise I do agree with you, for the most part.

I keep reading that you guys root for tethering, I thought that the 3d came with a mobile hotspot and that you can tether away free of charge since data is unlimited
(currently awaiting my 3D to arrive)
Simple answer. Nope. We're still asked to pay for tethering even with Unlimited Data Plans.

Complicated answer? ^^
So to get free tethering I must root? Any specific app they can't trace?

I root to remove bloatware. If I don't want an app I shouldn't be forced into it because of its popularity. If I want it I will add it, there's a market for a reason
Sure the stock evo is great but I always like a little more customizations. With root you can save battery, get wifi tether and USB tether, and pretty much do anything you so desire...
I dont flash a rom everyday or even every week. I find a good ROM I really like (currently VIPER) and then I only really flash when they come out with big updates for that ROM.
You don't have to be a flashaholic. There are a lot of good things that can come from rooting: No more Bloatware, better battery life, quicker updates. I love stock sense but enjoy having small modifications like a circle mod for the battery and CRT.
I did enjoy having CM7 with my hero prior to this phone. Some of that might just be that the Hero was so slow and CM7 made the phone ok.
Each to their own but rooting has a lot more going for it then not going for it.

When Sense 4.0 comes out for the new phones and not the EVO 3D you will want to root, because it will get ported. No Sense 4.0 doesn't exists yet but it will someday unless Apple patents it first.

The USB port that's basically it. Also battery life sucks for me as well.
This phone was pretty well built other than the GPS sucking, but I don't use it that much nor do I actually have big problems like others.
We also need more love from Samsung so we can get a Gingerbread leak going

Cuz before we use to plug in the phones just to charge them. Now every time you log in to XDA (or your favorite Devs. forum) there is some new **** you wanna install in your phone....plug-unplug...oh I just found this new cool wallpaper...plug-unplug...new ROM...plug-unplug...new kernel...plug-unplug...new (you get the point). You probably plug-unplug your phone 10 times during the course of one day. Back then it was just once every 2-3 days to charge. Don't say they make them cheaper now, they just get abused now.
...Oh yeah, almost forgot. My biggest problem (besides not getting GB for the Vibrant) is that when I wanna take a picture in a dark place I noticed I'm missing that little small LED light that shines when you take a picture which most new phones comes with....what is it called???...oh yeah is a ****ING FLASH SAMSUNG! WTF what is a roll of the dice? "OK lets see which of the new Galaxy S devices is NOT getting a flash just for the **** of it...roll it"...OR.... "Sir, sir we forgot to put a flash on the one going out for t-mobile"...." **** them I have Verizon anyways, keep going"
**** lack of proper gps, **** bad usb (actually mine is alright so idk) but goddammit! Why the **** doesn't this have flash?
there isn't even a logical answer to that.

I would imagine every new Note owner goes through a period where people comment on the size of the note. My daughter posted on Facebook, that "I'm out of control." My wife calls it a Pop Tart. I'd like to think they're all just a bit jealous that I can read ebooks and watch TV or movies without squinting.
Anyway, a few rookie questions if you wouldn't mind:
I'm running Only One on my ATT I717 and love it, but trying to learn about modems. Is there a tutorial?
Also, is there a good GPS progam? I had TomTom on my 3GS but doesn't look like it's offered for Android.
Thanks
I prefer Navigon for gps. Most feautures and best forming. 2 others to look at are Ndrive and Sygic. What do you need to know about modems? Not much to tell unless you are running the phone on T-mobile. Looks like you might be since you mentioned 3gs. If you do then this thread might get you started. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1573568
Thanks. I had an IPhone 3GS with TomTom.
Is 4G the same as LTE on ATT.
There's a thread about boosting data speed and they refer to UCLE2, 5, etc. Does this apply to ATT, or only T-Mobile?
I've heard a bit about Navigon and it seems solid but the reviews it gets don't seem all that reassuring for me to spend that kind of money. Google's navigation app has worked great for me and does more than enough. I've also used Waze. It's got a clean interface and nice traffic info plus it's free!

4G and LTE are totally different. 4G is an improved version of 3G. LTE is another technology. Not all areas have LTE.

If you have a data connection the Google is great. Waze looks ok but it needs data also and has all that social integration. Guessing this app is hard on the Note's battery. How does it run for you? If you want an offline gps app then you need to fork out the dough. No app is perfect for everyone and reviews are tough on paid gps apps. Navigon gets it done especially when you are in an area with no data.
I use Map Quest for gps works great and it's free.

Waze hasn't taxed my battery too bad but I can see how it would become a bit of a hog. True, I could do without the social integration as well but it isn't too bad. I've since resorted soley on the Google navigation app. I hear you about the offline capabilities, Navigon would be nice to have when data isn't available. I rarely don't have access to data so that hasn't posed much of a problem for me with gps. You're right, the choice definitely depends on the person.

I was using Google maps walking navigation today...first time on this phone...on Rodeo Dr. in Beverly Hills. I know the accurancy is great (for whatever reason ICS is taking longer to get a lock), but I was stunned that the arrow was precisely where I was walking but the compass is crazy sensitive, looked like I was walking sideways at times.

I was skeptical, and in fact wasn't going to upgrade. My Evo 4G started going flaky though so I decided to upgrade. My humble $0.02:
- ultralight and rigid. exudes quality construction
- phone has a nice feel to all the surfaces
- Beats Audio - I thought this was pure marketing nonsense, then tried with the same quality headphones on this and my old Evo and there's a clear difference. Same thing when I plug in from the headphone jack to my truck stereo. Very surprised.
- speed - can't bog this thing down with anything I've thrown at it
- Battery - still not perfect but I think it's a bit more efficient than my old Evo. At work where I get very little signal it still sucks the battery dry trying to reconnect voice all day. I may just put it in airplane mode when at work. Frigging army construction regulations.
Any dissenters? I'd recommend this phone more strongly than any other phone I've had at the time.
In this forum i dont think anyone will disagree, yes it is a great phone. Have some fun,go over to the s3 forums and brag it up
This phone is extremely solid compared to the Evo 3D, which I passionately hate and wish I had never owned. Unfortunately, a bad signal is always a deathtrap for a phone's battery, but it seems the rest of it is working out for you.

If u search "roam control" on playstore there will be an app called "no roam control" or something like that. Anyways it is the first one on the list. It is by the same developer and there's a link to their website. U can buy a license and download it straight from there. Only thing that sucks is u will probably have to buy a new license for every new phone.
