[Q] [NOOB] New Xperia U user. Many questions.... - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hello all, I am a new Xperia U user. My parents bought me one on Saturday. I have some basic knowledge about Android as I was a Nook Color boy earlier...
Q1. Now I have unlocked its bootloader, and I have installed KASpeed ROM v3 and the KA Speed Kernel v 6.1. I initially had WIFI issues but I fixed 'em. Now the KA Speed Kernel is overclockable, if I am right. So could somebody please tell me how to do so (overclock). I tried many apps (setcpu, no frills CPU control) but all of them say my max clock speed is 1000 MHz only while the kernel promises 1.15 GHz. Help!
Q2. I have installed flashtool successfully and I can flash kernels using fastboot but I cant seem to flash .ftf packages using flashmode ( green LED mode). Whenever I try to do so it says " reading header file" and suddenly "flash aborted"
Q3. Is it possible to make a CWM flashable zip from a .ftf package. I have seen videos of some aIUP.exe or something, I tried but doesn't work.
Any other method?
EDIT= Q4. How do I turn off my LED bar in the Music Player? I don't see any such option in LEDs U CTRL app. So please help///
My Phone's info for reference-
Model - ST 25i
Android - 2.3.7
ROM - KA03 Xperia SSpeed
Kernel- 2.6.35.7 SSpeed Kernel
THANKS

I'm no expert in XPERIA U, but I have XPERIA P and I think will get much less complications if you update your XPERIA U to ICS first.
about Q2 it might be a driver problem..
and Q3 I saw some kernels which are flashable by CWM but I have no idea about creating them
Much more roms and tweaks are available to XPERIA U with ICS than with Gingerbread, you should update and than start customizing your XPERIA

Thanks man, but I know that ICS stock is laggy. And as far as I know GB is much faster than ICS
and as for now only GB has an OC kernel, if I am not wrong.........

Sorry, i didn't know that the stock ICS is laggy on SXU because on my SXP it's smooth.
Maybe if you do update to ICS and install a custom ROM it would not be as much as laggy

hello
is it possible to install this and after that patch for neo, does anyone have patch, or is other official ics rom neo patches ok hope you got me
Dont Download -,-
the settings menu is supersmooth, but homescreen transitions is really unsmooth, nothing compared to cm9, trust me, its not worth downloading
Why doesn't Sony updates the kernel to ver 3

Why?
It's stock rom, working fine on stock 4.0.3 kernel. Everyone who have CWM(which can be installed with stock kernel) can flash this zip, right?
And in case someone is wondering, Arc ROM thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655067

It's faster than 4.0.3
Thanks

CM9 is not a fully functional rom. Its 100% functional.
Battery life is far better. Home screen is not too lagy to wait, just a little jerk.
It can be super fast and smooth if some of our great developers add some tweaks.
Hope sony is approaching up to mark (but oviously slowly). Just have patience.

I have had mine OC to 1.4Ghz On-Demand and set limit processes to 2 and remove some bloatwares, unnecessary monitor apps and i think this version is usable than 4.0.3.

Speed up yor ics

as an xperia play lover my self i stared to experiment with play..........
i flashed a lot of roms and kernels....got bricked about 20 times
today i discovered something interesting i found a way to speed up my ics roms without using adreno drivers.
know it is stable as GB
i DID was i took a baseband from a neo L rom and flashed it with flash tool and flashed my ics rom and kernel
once it booted i performed very well with games and can even play videos and run apps much smoother
here is how i did it fast i flashed neo L baseband (u can flash the baseband with out changing or re flashing the rom no factory reset s needed but i think it shoud be done)
and flashing kernel is must or it my not boot up
and i fogot to write is that it also increased my sound volume
dont belive me try for our self
know i am going to try it with neo l know baseband -84 current is 8x55A-AAABQMAZM-203028G-74

Any benchmarks with Your proper baseband and after changing it to neo l?
You did something like the process of installation for MIUI Australia, didn't you? What ROM are you using?

Indeed it is like it.
CosmicDan is passing instructions for flashing the Neo L baseband either for MIUI Australia has a while. But don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying you copied him, just both of you had the same idea. I also was using the baseband 84 of Neo L with SlimBean (a JB ROM) without problems.
Also, basebands can affect radio communications, like wifi, bluetooth, phone signal and phone data connection as far as I know. That is, maybe you can feel a stabler device to every radio transaction, but general UI smoothness is not affected by baseband

Dude, again, don't misunderstand me.
I'm not saying this because you're a junior member, I didn't mean to offend you. I would say this to everyone because we are in a discussion space.
I did some research before my previous post just to confirm what I knew / thought. The baseband control radio communications. Our feeling is a subjective evaluation and I didn't feel differences in UI performance (either in radio performance lol) but I do believe the radio get better because the baseband is newer and it's something expected.

ok then do a little more me be the baseband may also help in developing new roms
i tried many basband only neo, l, v, seems to mach xperia plays with out any error
you know that they have announced 2012 xperia phones (meybe neo l also) have been announced official JB so i am thinking making a JB rom with the basband of a JB official rom
Different basebands may change how the phone searches for a signal, maybe the baseband you use is more stable so the phone uses less resources while searching for a signal maybe? but baseband has nothing to do with performance, that is all rom and kernel side.

Maybe, I'm still on -64 baseband as its the stablest I've found but I plan on flashing Neo L Baseband -87 or -78 tomorrow to see if its any better.
Even if it is possible to get a performance boost from other basebands (IF they use less resources) then it would be minimal, and hardly noticeable.
To test TheCraigs assumption just turn the phone on airplane mode delete the running apps and see if performance has improved or just try the baseband out yourself

not really. seem like it has problem with music app don't worry, open v3 via 7zip and delete semcmusic.apk
After that flash v1 and v2 first, then reboot to system, then back to cwm and flash v3
Other bug people report that when you holding power buton it restarts the phone. I don't hace X ray to check so test by yoursefl
Anyway just make nandroid backup to return if sth happen to your phone
Enjoy and Happy flashing
OK thanks

Can i update my gpu drivers ? Xperia Sola !

the name says it all i have xperia sola Unlocked rooted and Cm9 Based Rom ^_^ i hope that i can update my gpu drivers just for best performance and if there any thing to update making the phone more smooth and i don't know about it tell me ^_^ please , but the important thing is can i update it anyway ? or should i flash a rom with the new drivers already ?
As far as i know only a dev can update the gpu drivers for his rom or kernel...
Also, upgrading the gpu drivers is not something that will make ur phone much better.... Usually there are just minor improvements

coming back to the OP question - linux and linux based architectures (android) are unique because their drivers are integrated in the kernel of the OS. Therefore, updated drivers are only available in updated kernels, one of the reasons why kernel incompatibilities arise (roms are rarely compatible between different versions of kernels). In short, updated drivers means newer kernel.
As far as newer versions of roms are concerned, they usually have updated and optimised libraries utilising the same underlying drivers, imparting an impression of improved performance.
soft brick
For the walkman you can try acid sound mod it comes included or QcAE(currently using it)
For restarts its a kernel or rom issue download again and try again, if not working
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849170
(see battery part, it helped me once i got stuck in boot loops!)
Always read instructions!
