[FIX] Touchpad Android turning off/reboot by itself when screen off - TouchPad General

hey everyone,
I've had this problem since cm9, and now on JB AOKP. The touchpad would reboot or shut off itself when screen off. After much experiments and reading up on other people's attempt, I can confirm that the problem originates from audio (someone else discovered the problem with audio). Most of the time (at least for me), if I turn off the screen without playing any sound after booting my touchpad, it would reboot/turn off itself.
The fix is simple. After you turn on the touchpad, just play some sound and you are good. For me, I set Tasker to play a silent mp3 file 10 seconds after booting. Since then I have not gotten any reboots at all.
Another solution (not tested) is to set a boot animation sound to your touchpad. Theoretically this should work, but I can't get boot sound to work on my JB AOKP rom.

I'll check that out, thanks!

Thanks, I'll have to give this a try. I have been getting reboots quite a bit and I noticed when I flashed the first CM10 preview ROM where sound didn't work that there was no reboots. So I kind of figured it was related to sound. I wonder if just enabling the lock screen with sound on CM9 will be enough audio to fix this.

Just upgraded to cm-9-20121111-NIGHTLY and having problems getting the system to stay up more than a few minutes. Checked and volume was all the way down, since upping it no more crashes.

I enabled the lock/unlock sound and also switched to SGA's Fat n Creamy CM9 ROM. I only got one reboot and that was when the volume was muted. If I keep the volume up a bit then the lock/unlock sound seems to be enough to keep it from crashing.

This used to happen to me quite often, then suddenly just stopped. (Several months back)
I never once stopped to think if could be something as simple as audio.
I'll keep this fix in mind should it mysteriously start again.
Good job OP!
:good:

A silent boot sound would work right?

[Q] Audio issues? Anyone else?

Just wanted to know if anyone else have audio issues. I'll explain.
When I leave my tablet to sleep some minutes, or a while, or some hours, sometimes after resuming it, it will not have sound anymore. And actually, any attempt of playing sounds (for example...the keyboard "tick" sound..) will make my tablet to play "SHSHSHHSHSHSHSHSH" (noise..) for about 4 or 5 seconds. This will repeat everytime I try to play something. The fix is to reboot, but its kinda depressing showing off the tablet and it fails like that D: LOL
Thanks!
last bump? Anyone?
I have not - it could be a hardware defect. Have you tried it in stock (or are you in stock right now?)
A few users have mentioned audio static at times, but I have never had this issue.
Never any problems since buying the tablet in late November. I would exchange the unit wherever you bought it.

That's exactly what mine is doing. After the reboot, it's fine...makes me think it's not hardware. I'm running TNTlite 3.1.2. Didn't have it in 2.4. What are you running? Also running the lag patch.
This actually just happened to me yesterday -- the "SHSHSHSHSHSHS" static playing quite loud. I muted all sound (i.e. Silent Mode) and it stopped -- but when I re-enabled sound and started an app with music, it returned.
BTW: I am running Vegan Beta 4...
Rebooted and it has gone away (for now) -- but I notice something strange now...
Perhaps someone else can reproduce this:
1) Put tablet in Silent mode (from settings, not via Volume rocker)
2) No sounds should be heard when clicking any apps in drawer, home button, etc.
3) Re-enable sound from Sound settings (Turn OFF Silent mode)
4) Using the volume rocker, turn the volume all the way down until it is supposed to be "OFF" (Media Volume Speaker is grey and has an "X" beside it)
5) Click on any apps in drawer, you should hear a very faint "click" when you select that shouldn't be there normally
Interestingly, it also happens for some touches of the capacitive "hard" buttons -- mainly Menu and Back since almost all apps have those options. "Home" and "Search" do not seem to trigger sounds...
A strange glitch to be sure but one I can live with (it's Beta software after all) -- wondering if anyone else has this as well?
**UPDATE: Weird...While the above problem still exists, I noticed that sound seems to play properly (i.e. without static, noise, etc) when you go into the Sound settings menu, select Volume, and turn OFF the "Use incoming call volume for notifications" -- which gives you an extra slider to set. After setting that slider to any value, the problem hasn't reappeared and sound seems clean (so far)
Perhaps not having the "phone" functions in the tablet borked the setting? Nothing to read from? And force assigning a value helps?
It happened to me for the first time yesterday watching videos on CNN. I believe it was the video about Brett Farve getting fined for not cooperating with the NFL. I stopped the video and started again, and it was fine from that point on.
Same here on zpad ...except no shhhh sound or whatever just silence when trying to play music....so annoying
actually even a reboot isn't fixing it now...still no sound at all
well im glad im not alone, i dont think its a hardware issue

Fwiw i flashed vegans latest build and probem is fixed for now...zpad ws causijg me all kinds of hell....but i liked it best
FYI: The "Shshshshshsh" came back on my GTablet last night and it was LOUD...
Had to reboot to get it to clear...muting sound didn't seem to work to stop it...
Will be flashing Vegan Beta 5.1 so hopefully it will go away with a Wipe...
Same problem here too... even happened in VEGAN 5.1 last night so I flashed to TNT Lite 4.0 and it happened there as well.
This happens when I use Fring. I get an extremely loud noise from connection till close. Since we are discussing sound issues, I'm not getting any sound from my avi files. It shows beautifully but no sound. I tried many players but no success. Anyone experience this?
Scott
I only get sound from ac3 encoded avi files when using rockplayer software decoding.
I get a constant low static noise thru headphones. Also a pop sound every now and then.

I occasionally get a nonstop static SHHHHHH that is only corrected by rebooting. Had it with every version of TnTlite, never happened when I had vegan
So hardware or software problem? Is anyone for sure yet?
now mine is doing something else strange....media volume, when hitting hte rocker is stuck on silent....when I go into sounds, make sure silent is off....and increase media volume under volume....then hit ok...I go back into volume and it has reverted back to 0%....can't figure it out...
vegan 5.1 with cleymson kernel
Same issue here. I have actually had it happen while using it from a fresh boot...no sleep

music static when screen turns off cm7

Ok loving having android on this thing one bug I have on mine is when I'm playing any sort of music be it pandora g-music or on board files, as soon as the screen shuts off it gets static sounding and choppy with weird clicks, was wondering if others have this same issue
yep i noticed the same
Same here. It's not awful but annoying enough!
I get the same problem but only on webos . Have to full reboot to resolve. Not sure if this is a 3.04 bug, cause this never happened to me on 3.02 . Anyone else still seeing this issue?
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Have not booted into webos since I have ported android on this thing, weird tho tthat your getting this issue in webos, maybe its a hardware issue
Same problem here. I find most instances after turning the screen back on a few times the static seems to stop.
i have the same issue but only when running cm7. my webos works perfectly. most times if i am gonne be running music i just switch over to webos.
This seems to happen when the volume hits a certain point on the higher end. If you volume down a little bit, it goes away.
In my case, it was DSP Manager. I had enabled eq and bass boost which was causing the crackling and choppy sounds. I disabled eq and bass boost on speaker, headset and bluetooth and perfect sound now.
I'm running 2.1 alpha and WebOS was 3.04.
I had the same issue and changing the CPU profile in CM settings sorted it.
SETTINGS/CM SETTINGS/PERFORMANCE/CPU settings; Ondemantcl works for me.

pandora sound issues when screen is off CM9 (vid)

hi guys so ive been trying to figure out whats wrong with pandora, everytime the screen shuts off, the sound gets distorted but as soon as i wake the screen it goes back to normal, but as soon as the screen goes off it gets distorted again.
whats causing this, and how do i fix it, thanks!
heres a vid of my problem.

The CM9 build uses the same (if not similar) drivers as the CM7 alpha build that was posted. So issues related to sound, like the sound distorting or wifi are because of that. Unfortunately I'm not aware of a fix or even if one exists.
As far as I know the only way to "fix" it for now is to just lower the volume.
Been a issue since CM7, there is currently no fix.

[Q] CM10 audio problems

I use the CM10 from Droid Basement and I have the following problems with audio:
1- When using headphones, minimum volume is too loud. When I increase the volume, it goes up only a few steps, and then stays on the same level until maximum volume on the slider.
2- When recording videos with the camera, only left channel of audio is recorded. It probably should merge both left and right since it's mono.
Anyone else having those problems? I work with audio and video a lot and this is a very annoying problem present since the first version I installed of this CM10.
I use P7500.
The first problem is an all around JB bug I think. I had it on AOSP, AOKP, and CM on my s2.

same issue here.... except my headphone volume is too low... the volume from speakers is actually great but when on headphones... harware keys dont work all the time and i have to use the on screen sliders. when i do thevolumes steps up once from really low to mediumand thats all i get...
as for recording, i havent experienced it.
******POTENTIAL WORKAROUND*******
you might want to try the A1 kernel as it includes VooDoo sound. that might work..
1. make sure you get the cm version. it works well for most but i cant get it work.... it freezes me up as soon as my homescreen loads. if you wanna try it.......
2.make sure you have pershoots 11/19 kernel on your sd card so you can flash back if you run into the same problem...
A1 Kernel READ CAREFULLY---- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833136
Pershoots 3.1.10 (11/19) Kernel ---- http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=2906
good luck...report back =)
I am having the same issue. I tried installing beats audio, but it didn't change the volume problem, it did make the sound a little better though. I am hoping this issue is fixed in a later version of cm10.
Also, I am having an issue (i posted it in the forum with no response) of my lockscreen being stuck in landscape mode, even when auto rotate is on. Does anyone else have this same issue?

This has already been fixed in cm10.1 for tab 10.1 and is included in the nightlies.
My problem isn't the same as the OP, but title is the same: CM10 audio problems.
I would absolutely LOVE to use this ROM. I've tried cyanogen on many occasions and been very impressed. My only downfall with CM9 and CM10 was the audio. On CM9, my headphone volume would always reset to a low volume when a new song played. The only way I could find to fix this was via the DSP manager wm989 tab (or something similar) and changing the amplifier level, then changing it back. I never followed up to see if others were having the same problems, so I'm sure it is an issue that was already resolved. I eventually dumped the ROM for another because of the problem, BUT....I digress.
My current problem is on CM10. I love the clean look, I love the speed, the customization....EVERYTHING.....except the audio. I just noticed it a bit earlier while trying to play Youtube videos; the speaker volume was extremely low. I don't see any amplifier settings on the speaker tab of DSP manager. I have audio manager / Hide it pro installed, but all those volumes are at max. I went so far as to remove DSP manager from the system/app folder....but that did nothing useful that I can tell (aside from giving trebuchet a forced close). I installed Beats Audio, but that didn't help. I'm at a loss, and freely admit that I'm struggling to figure out how to resolve this. Would someone please assist? I'll gladly post logs if necessary.....just tell me how to post them. I really want this ROM to work, because it is almost perfect aside from this problem.

Fix for crackle during bluetooth music playback

I got one of those fancy vibration-technology speakers (trupulse.net) for Christmas, but regardless of the ROM I've tried (Super Jelly, JellyBam, & others) I get a noticeable crackle when playing music through bluetooth on it. Seems to be connected some to what I do on my phone while music's playing (opening apps, rotating the screen, etc), but it also happens randomly too. I had my wife try it on her stock LTE with Jellybean and it works correctly. I'm also confident it's bit the speaker itself because my TouchPad and my bro-in-law's iPhone worked fine too.
Anybody got any ideas what the issue might be?
P.S. I noticed I have 2 bluetooth share apps, so I froze them individually in TiBu but do still had the issue.
I notice crackle when multitasking or when i press power button on my phone. It only lasts a second though. Running pacman rom.
Is it a constant crackle? Also, have you tried turning volume down on your phone and up on the speaker?

Thanks for your reply. The speaker I'm using doesn't have its own dedicated volume, only adjusted using whatever's connected to it. It's not consistent in that it's every 5 seconds or anything, but like you said when multitasking (and almost EVERY time the screen rotates) it happens. And sometimes it'll last several seconds at a time.
This has been an issue since launch with the phone. The only thing that I found to work was increasing voltages with a kernel app but I don't believe this to be possible yet. HTC majorly screwed up with BT Audio on this thing.
