Not sure about the right forum for this one, so posting it here... mods, move if you need to.
I am interested in buying an HP Pre 3 if I can get my hands on a cheap one... and/or an HP Veer. Seeing as HP has announced $75 for the Pre3 in UK and France, I hope the Veer would also see a similar price drop.
But the real question is: is Android going to be ported to the Pre3 and/or Veer? Afaik, both phones' hardware should be capable of running it, in principle.
Price drop announced in France... I would also like to know if we could have Android on Pre3.
If it's ported to the Touchpad, It could very well be added to the Pre, the only thing is how the Home/Menu/Back Buttons would work.

I'm serious about this. Calculate the price after its change (phone cost + shipping cost to Macedonia), and if reasonable, buy me +1.
I must be the only guy in the world that actually had a Pre3 on Preorder. If I can pick up another few in the firesale then i'm happy to ship them out to people at cost. Drop me a PM and I'll do firstcome first serve.
When's it due on sale in the uk?

I had one, but just got an email from the supplier saying that HP recalled the stock which was going to be sent to them, so my order was cancelled.
Shame, I was really looking forward to getting one... I hope I can grab one in the fire sale, but I probably won't...
I wish someone could make this happen for the Veer. I saw an article on precentral that someone was able to port a semi-working version of android to the original pre and pre plus. should be able to do the same for the Veer if someone put their mind to it. PLZ!
would be interested in running android on my pre3.
missing the android market a lot.
pre3 should have some potential for developers I guess.

I think it would be easier to handle these buttons when Ice Cream Sandwich reaches AOSP
Or SB develop driver to handle gestures like swipe to left = "back", swipe to right = "menu" and just tap = "home".
Any news?
XDA-developers has Beta MIUI.us Tenderloin HP TouchPad 2.3.7 by scott951 done, does anybody know if i can use this ROM to install android on HP Veer 4G?
I tried with alpha releases and nothing.
I'm curious about buying an HP phone too. The Pre3 looks nice but I think I want the Veer.
Maybe someone will develop an Android version to work on them. The issue with the home/back/menu buttons would be solved if they used 4.0. I think there's an app in the market that uses on screen buttons too.
~100 Euros for such a nice piece of hardware, the only thing holding me back is the fact that my whole life works around my android handset
Bump
I own a Touchpad and a Pre3, running one of the latest ICS nightlies from Eyeballer on the Touchpad and it rocks dual boot with WebOS.
It would rock to have it on the Pre3 too, as WebOS doesn't have whatsapp, which is needed on a phone these days.
As the Pre and Pre2 had some Android version running, I was hoping the Touchpad ICS could be ported to Pre3 pretty easily.
Not as many Pre3's out there as there are Touchpads, but still reasonable numbers I think as they were sold in UK, France, Germany and some other countries. If I look at this picture the Pre3 would be a candidate for ICS/CM9
cdn.androidcommunity.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/CM9-Flow.png
ps: this topic has over 20.000 views... There IS interest for such a rom!
ps2: poll for ICS/CM9 on Pre3 --> forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/46686-porting-cm7cm9-to-hp-pre-3/

Thanks! Ill post if I find one.

Many shops are sending their stock back to HP to be sold at hp.com. That's why they are only temporarily out of stock. You can have them e-mail you when they are back in stock.
http://www.erwincomputers.com/fb454utaba.html
Ordered one from Erwin Comp. Make sure you guys use Google Checkout just in case. They seem fairly reputable from what I read on reviews online. Let's hope they don't cancel my order like B&N did. I'm only buying just one, not in it for the resales.
Just now ordered 1 from erwincomputers.com It says item "In-stock". Hope its true and goes through. I also used the google checkout since I am not familiar with this website.
Their online ratings are horrible.
That being said....we shall see.
I used Google Checkout AND my American Express....just in case.
AmEx is awesome at disputes should Erwin decide to hose me.
I was gonna get another one from Erwin comp but after reading the reviews changed my mind. Just gonna wait until Wednesday.
Might want to check your local Best Buy stores today or at least find out when their trucks come. From what I've been told, they are gonna have them. Don't know if they will have a limit or not. Good luck!!!

I thought all inventories were going back to HP's warehouses....
For 100 bucks...or even 149, these make nice coffee table tablets for the net, music and browsing. I don't need 100K apps...but for 100 bucks, IMO, these are a better offering than the bottom of the line, 1.6 or 2.2 android cheapo tablets.
Samsung just lost a lawsuit over in Europe. There's a chance they might be stocking up as well.....
yarp - certainly do - im in the uk and ive just ordered 5 of them from insight (they are one of our suppliers here at my workplace - i got 5x 32gb versions for 120 quid each)
I spoke to them first thing this morning and they were waiting for the price drop which came at 1pm today - then he phoned me - stock says that they had about 500 or so. goodluck.

To be honest, I'm not sure. The price did drop a couple of months ago to $299, and they sold like crazy. I'm not sure what HTC's plans are with it, but I've heard that BB stores may show 1 in stock, but that may be the floor model. I don't know if HTC really knows what to do with it, but there has been Honeycomb leaks and such, so time will tell if they officially release HC for this device.
The plot thickens.....I called 3 Best Buy stores and got 23 different answers. Yes I'm being sarcastic. One store though said "it's discontinued because of poor sales". I called Corporate and they said it has been pulled for the "sale" tomorrow. Whatever that means.

I would think if HTC was going to dump it, the recent update would of never happened. Best Buy is going to ruin my Christmas. So what if I wasn't good this year? My money is good!

I'm not surprised, they don't know. There were poor sales because the price was over $500 for it, so since other tabs were around $299, that's a no brainer. I'm not sure what they mean by pulled for the sale either...? I would think that if they had stock, the thing would sell great, but who knows? It sounds like Best Buy doesn't know either.

Jury is out on that, there's been 3 leaks, so there's something going on there...
I was worried that the $299 price drop was an indication that BB and HTC were clearing stock as they discontinued the device. Looks like this may be the case, and the new price was too good to be true. The fact that HTC's 10.1" tablet is also waaay overpriced suggests that the price drop wasn't an acknowledgment that HTC's pricing structure is unrealistic. And all this leads me to believe that HTC will probably end up having to exit the tablet market altogether. Oh, well, there's always ASUS and Samsung.

The following Forbes article speculates that Black Friday will being tablet market dominance by Apple, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble, spelling "doomsday" for all other tablet manufacturers.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/terokuittinen/2011/11/22/black-friday-tablet-doomsday-for-many-phone-vendors/
Maybe a bit extreme, although I see the point that Amazon is going to shake up the tablet landscape in the coming months. I expect at least Samsung to hang tough for some time. And HTC seems to be still in the fight, at least for the short term, with a 10.1" quad core tablet in the works:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19736_7-57326923-251/quad-core-htc-quattro-tablet-details-leaked/
The Quattro may help explain the demise of the Flyer. Even though its not the same 7" form factor (which I really like), it would seem unwise for HTC to keep 3 tablets in the lineup, if none are selling too well. And with the Flyer already 6 months old, its not surprising to see it drop from the lineup.
I'm not buying the Forbes article's take on tablets as a whole, but I suspect it's on target as far as HTC goes. HTC made a mistake in pricing the Flyer at $500. It was also a mistake not to have a 10" tablet to market at the sane time. Had HTC priced the Flyer at $400 and had a 10" tablet out at $500 they might have had a shot.
But I do think that the Forbes article's post-mortem on Samsung is way premature. The Nook Tablet and the Fire are going to shake up the market this Christmas, but consumers are not going to settle for tablets with such limited functionality that are tied so closely to one vendor's ecosystem.
I bought all of the HTC Flyers. That's why there's none left..Muhaahahahahaaa
I was in Best Buy yesterday and asked about the flyer and was told that it is being cleared out because a new HTC was being released next month, but I really do not believe that, as for the Flyer I know of a place that has over 786 of them to sell, it is a good place to buy from ,I have purchased from them many times because they are here in my town and I can go to their outlet, http://www.techforless.com/cgi-bin/tech4less/HTCFLYERP512
The term open box means that they open up the boxes and check out the contents to make sure they are in good shape and working order, that way they can sell it at a reduced price. Plus you can get a extended warranty from them also, believe me they have great stuff and well worth the price which is much better than Best Buy.

I live in GA and got one at the beginning of the month at a BestBuy Mobile shop at the mall.
I just don't understand if they're supposedly clearing them out, why would they raise the cost of the Scribe pen back to $79.99?
Well I think its a safe bet that HTC is not manufacturing any more Flyers. The only question is how much stock is still floating around

Ok but why the update on 11/14? To support the existing Flyers I suppose?
Yeah, support.
It's cheaper to do a production run of a million or 2 than to start and stop assembly lines. So HTC probably produced all they wanted in May - June and are just selling what remains. That's typical.
My Best Buy still has a display model set up. Maybe they finally have the HC update done so they pulled remaining stock, and are repacking them with HC ROMs so no one gets one without it? I know it is probably a long shot but you never know.

I like the optimism. Lets say ICS instead and shoot for the stars!
I went to BB yesterday and the managers told me that they are not discontinued, but that the corporate store would not sell them any more for some unknown reason, but they do plan on selling it again once they get some more stock. She emphasized that it is not discontinued.

So I'm of of the late people to order the prime (12/26) and just wondering how many of us are out there? Anyone got any idea when that second batch is coming to amazon?
I'm also an Amazon late buyer. Hoping our patience pays off with more polished machines.
I'm also in this boat. I'm honestly not expecting to get mine until February. I'm hoping that by the time it ships it will have ICS pre-installed.
Ordered from Amazon 64GB Champagne today After Return
I returned my TP yesterday to GameStop for a full refund. They had none in stock so refunded in cash no less. My reason for returning was a completely dead GPS. I never once got any lock of any type trying all the tricks on the GPS threads. Everything else worked flawlessly and I really hated parting with it but if I'm paying 500 bucks for a device it better work. I did notice a few people with later shipments having better luck than I did and so am rejoining the great TP Egg Hunt
P.S. From my own personal experience of two weeks playing with the TP if they get the GPS issue worked out this will be one badass tablet !!!
From the rumors i hear, the second batch of TP on amazon is due to ship during the first half of January so lets all hope that we get our tablets then and they are without problems

Man this just kills me.. I really don't understand why people need GPS so badly. I really can't think of a single time I would use it. My Galaxy Nexus is a MUCH better navigation device than a 10" tablet could ever be. As long as it can get my current city from wifi for searches, what other possible use is there?
It's probably been discussed in other GPS threads, but I haven't seen any real reason that I should worry about GPS on a wifi only tablet.
If you do a search on Amazon right now, the 32 GB Primes are only available from Amazon partners at highly inflated prices. There is a 64 GB available from Amazon, but no 32's.

Yeah, this bugs me too. People exchanging their otherwise perfectly working Primes because of GPS.... People should research enough to know that no amount of exchanges at this time is going to solve the issue.
Back on topic, I also ordered on 12/26 from Amazon (Grey 64GB)
Yeah, I posted about this yesterday. I ordered on Dec 19th, 64gb grey. One person in my post stated they ordered it on the 18th and it was delivered on the 30th. Not sure what size and stuff. I've also heard of some from the first round not getting theirs yet. I'm hoping that we get them in the next week or so.

It's not even that, I just don't know what they are even using the GPS on a wifi tablet to do... As I said, android phones are much better navigation devices than big tablets. If they removed GPS function completely, I'm not sure what I would miss out on...

I finally found a competent employee at Walmart last night. The guy had his nerd on and knew exactly what I was talking about, he said the lack of information they've been given about it says they're at least a week away. His best advice was to keep checking their website and have it delivered to the store when it does come in stock.

First-world problems, indeed.
I would agree with most people saying that google shouldn't sell to Walmart, but in some ways I prefer them over best buy. I mean best buy would be great if they could keep anything that is even remotely popular in stock. On at least three occasions I have gone their and tried to buy products that aren't even in high demand and every time I have had to either go to another store or order it off amazon.. I wish amazon wasn't their direct competitor, because it would be so much easier to order from them.
Wallyworld has the best return policy called no questions asked.

I was planning on just ordering the 16GB from the Play Store, but I have 35 dollars in a WalMart gift card, and with the shipping costs I would save picking it up at a store, it would only be like 50 more out of pocket for the 32 GB model. But since not all WalMarts are going to be even carrying it, I might be waiting around for nothing.
