Hi there,
Just wanting to get some support with an issue I am currently having. I have recently rooted and flashed a custom ROM on my galaxy s2 but have come up against a problem. My data connection seems to be quite erratic. I am running the following specs:
Baseband: i9100XXLQ6
Kernel: 3.0.15-CM-g39df795 [email protected] #1
Slim Bean Version: 3.0.0 Official
Build Number: JZO54K
To be more specific. My data signal drops whenever the phones goes to sleep for an extended period. My signal bars remain full, however they are greyed out. I have read that this means I have no connection to Google Services. There is no other issue with data. It works fine with WiFi (no signal drops) and I can still call and receive texts.
Basically, I am new to all this flashing so any help/advice you can provide is great. I have used getRIL to ensure my RIL is the appropriate one for my modem version, everything seems to match there. Any other tricks or fixes I can try? Is it worth flashing a new modem?
Thanks

Just a little more information on this. IT doesn't actually seem like I lose connection during sleep as I still get email and facebook notifications. The loss of connection (blue signal bars to grey signal bars) happens for a couple of seconds when the phone gets unlocked. Is this normal behaviour? It only happens for 5 or so seconds and then the connection is re-established. I have checked and confirmed APNs, used getRIL, anything else worth trying/investigating?

Hi,
I posted this query in another forum, did not get any response so posting here too.
I have tried searching the www for this but not getting a good answer that will solve my problem. My samsung galaxy s2 has stock android gingerbread 2.3.3.
When I stay in a wifi network long enough and then I move out from a wifi network , 3G/data does not automatically enable. However long I wait, there is no 3G connectivity. HSPA/3G icon does appear sometimes but there is no "actual" connectivity. I have tried going to "flight mode" and back, tried disabling/enabling data network, nothing seems to work. Only a hard restart to the phone works and when it boots up next time, 3G/HSPA connectivity is just fine. And the problem repeats itself whenever I go back to a wifi network and come out.
I took my phone to customer care, they re-installed 2.3.3 and it seemed to work for sometime. However after a few days, I am back to square one. I tried the MMI *#9900# which disables 3g fast dormancy, did not help.
Any solutions ?

Did you get your problem resolved? I have the exact problem. When i move away from wifi area i see the data connection indicator 3g or h, but there is no real data connectivity. Toggling data connection off and off seems to make it work again. I did a factory reset and updated to the latest firmware but still no help.
Well, Using Odin re-installed firmware I downloaded from android soul. It was a slightly different version: I9100XXKL1_I9100OXAKL1. And since it had a pit file I re-partitioned as well while using Odin. It worked well, but phone had frequent reboots.
Took to the service center; they initially claimed that is how it works on all galaxy s2 phones and is by design . After much detailed explaining, I told them to just load the latest firmware for the phone. I am currently on:
Baseband: I9100DDKL1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKL1-CL809037 [email protected]#2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKL1
It's been a day and the wifi to 3g switch happens seamlessly. Let's hope it stays that way for good. Will update in a couple of days.
Hi, everyone.
After a slight fall, my S5830L started rebooting randomly. In some cases it just shutdown.
Looking for causes, I've found that when Data Connection is active ( In Settings - Wireless and Network Settings - Mobile Networks) it reboots.
If I turn off Data Connections everything is fine. I even can connect using WiFi when available, and synchronize accounts, send emails, access market, etc. All OK.
When I check again Data Connection option, sooner or later (rather sooner) it fails again.
Has anyone heard about issues like this? I need some help to deal with it. I can use almost everything, except data connection, and I really miss it
Thanks to all for the answers, any idea is welcome!
Augusto.
PS: Hope my mail is clear enough, since English is not my native language...

Hi, this is not normal, what firmware do have you installed?
This problem may be occur with any program installed and not for firmware problem.
I've flashed at least three different firmwares and with all the same problem persists.
Right now i've Android 2.3.6 (from Entel PCS, Chile)
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf- CL771662
Compilation Number: GINGERBREAD.UBKPL
Baseband Version: S5830LUBKPL
The problem started after my son dropped the phone downstairs, just a couple of steps, though...
I don't remember installed anything wierd, for that time.-
PS: I took the info about Entel PCS version from your web. Thanx. Nice Job!
I would have to agree that it sounds more software then hardware based. Usually if hardwares broken its very predictable. I would try to restore a different firmware stock or custom. I have an L and went with a custom rom. The data dropping might be a baseband issue but someone more wise than I would have to comment on that.
The wierd thing is that on the first connection it works, at some point the connection hangs, then while trying to reconnect it shutdown.
I was running a Samsung's 2.3.4 firmware when the problem started, then I flashed a Personal Stock 2.3.4 firmware (the original, that came with the phone), after that tried Entel PCS's 2.3.6. I keep this one because it's the newer version...
All behave the same way. The baseband should be the same for all, because the L (S5830L) is for LatinAmerica, and I've always double checked this.
Hi,
Have you tried to flash the original stock ROM again? You can download it from http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/
This site also explain how to use odin to flash the firmware.
My Android version is 2.3.4and Baseband is S5830LUBKPF and it works OK
I believe it might be hardware wise. Have you rooted you SGA already?
Hi Everyone,
Sorry if there is already an answer for this on the Internet somewhere but I was not able to find it.
First the technical details about my phone:
- Not rooted
- Not updated (factory firmware)
- Phone version: GT-I9100
- Firmware versions:
PDA: I9100XWKI4Phone: I9100XXKI1CSC: I9100OXXKI2Build Time: Wed Sep 14 20:34:11 KST 2011- Baseband version: I9100XXKI1
- Android version: 2.3.4
- Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XKWKI4-CL575468 [email protected] #2
- Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWKI4
- Carrier: Vodafone Hungary
- Bought at: Vodafone Hungary
Problem:
Mobile network sometimes stops working and only a restart resolves it.
This happens 1-3 days after a restart again and a new restart resolves it again.
I realize it so that I'm not able to make outgoing calls, send SMS and others are also not able to call me.
What I see is that the phone tries to make the call like it would normally but there is no sound coming from the speakers and after some time it stops making the call.
When I try to send an SMS I just see on the message that it was failed to send it.
I also see that the GSM signal strength indicator is changing when I move my hand around the phone for example.
When I try to switch on data network mode it is not working, so I don't see the additional icon appearing on the status bar as usual and mobile network is not working either.
When I try to switch to flight mode (from the log press Power Button menu) the airplane icon appears, but I can't switch it off any more.
This means the flight mode button is not working, it is there, you can tap it, but it does not change it's state and when you tap it the menu does not disappear as usual.
The check-box in (Settings/Wireless and Network/Flight mode) is unchecked all the time, when you check it it displays "Disabling ..." for a while, but after this the check-box still remains unchecked.
So after you once switched on flight mode (when the phone is in the mentioned problematic state) it stays on until you restart the phone and switch it off again.
I bought this phone approximately half year before and this was working for at least 5 months.
It started to behave like this approximately one month before.
I don't remember installing anything or changing any settings lately what could cause this.
I'm not using a lot of apps, mostly Opera for browsing and sometimes Google maps and a few games.
I hope that is enough information and someone can help me or at least post me a link to some solution.
Sorry for not being clear on something.
Please let me know if you need some additional information.
Thanks in advance

Try flashing a new modem, these deal with network signal and such. Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950
A suggested modem is KI4, which may work for a lot of people, but perhaps not you. This is when you will have to flash multiple modems to find the one you want. Worth a go.
P.S. This is what your CSC is, the modem. So at the moment, you have the KI2 modem, the one below the one I suggested. Just try multiple ones and see.

Thanks.
I just don't understand why it was working for five months and why it stopped working in the last month.
Do you think a factory reset or upgrading to ICS could help?
Hi all,
Just switched from Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightlies to SlimBean build 6. Am enjoying this ROM except for the fact that it never shows that I had any signal.
Even though the signal strench indicator is at zero, I can use the internet over 3G, make phone calls and receive text messages.
Anyone familiar with this issue? Apart from some people mentioning that I should install a different firmware I cannot find anything. Device info has been attached.
Any help would be appreciated.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 running the Omnirom 4.4.2-20140406-i9100 Nightly.
The issue is that every now and again I can't make calls or recieve calls (I'm basically listed as unavailable for anybody that tries to call me). Even when this happens, signal bar remains full and the phones status page lists the phone as in service and connected to the network. The only way I can fix it is by restarting the phone. Are there any fixes?
- Update the nightly to confirm if your phone has no hardware issues.
- Go back to stock to get the stability in mobile network connection.
Most probably the nightly might have a broken component as these builds are experimental and highly unstable, but no harm in reverting back to stock to ensure your phone's safety.
Thanks, flashed the latest nightly last night. Now I'm waiting to see if it happens again. If it does I might consider flashing a modem that might work better with my carrier. Are there any TWRP flashable modems out there?
Started doing it again this morning, so I changed Network type from 2G/3G Preffered to 3G Only and it started working right away. Still unsure what the cause is though.
