I didn't notice any difference in the battery drain. I used the spartan rom along with bb 72 and my phone easily lasted the whole day.

I guess, using an older baseband in newer rom (like any ics or jb based Rom) may result in some problems... Correct me if I am wrong

Baseband is like the driver that controls your phone's radio. Usually baseband is not an issue with ROMs. Gingerbread works fine(atleast with GB-based versions of Cyanogenmod and MIUI).
Thank you for the replies ppl

Get battery callibration from market and give it a try.
If you have stock 2.3 you have new baseband.
try spare parts application from market it shows you which process is consuming more battery.
For baseband version goto settings -> about phone -> baseband version , it will be either v10... or v20...
for all stock gingerbread 2.3.3 etc it will be v20
for all stock froyo 2.2.x it will be v10

Yes, you are on old baseband. I also have v07...
If your using CM7 and baseband version shows v07u ... then your baseband should be v10. I am too mik'os cm7 (6.5.8) user i have baseband v10 and in "about phone" "baseband version" shows v07u-000-000-MAR-23-2009
Yes i think retaining with v10 baseband is better bcoz it gives you more choice of roms you want to install. V20 is supported by only few roms

Hi guys i'm a noob and i need your help. I have installed on my lg p500 this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21795799#post21795799
the Latest Nightly 1.5.2 without resolution change. However when i boot my phone i get no service. Can you explain me why does this happen? I have tryed with both .32 and .35 kernel and i think i'm on new baseband. Please help
You think or you know your own baseband? Use LGDMP to find out which baseband you have flashed...v20 (NBB) and v10 (OBB), if your phone is showing anything else its irrelevant cyanogenmod stuff..if you find out your on old baseband use aspee baseband fix or funny sim fix...

I agree with what he said. Basically, you're on the new baseband if you upgraded your phone to the STOCK gingerbread rom first before rooting. Aka, if you upgraded to a v20(letter here) rom. If you rooted a STOCK FROYO rom and installed another rom, you'll be on the old baseband. If you're on the old baseband, use one of the fixes Jrhodes85 mentions.
thanks

I don't know what info you will need so please just ask if I'm to vague.
I upgraded to ics but couldn't find a root version that would give titanium backup root access, when I tried to flash back to a previous non ics ROM it would get stuck on boot screen, my only option was to reflash ics and restore a backup which was Android 2.3.6.
Now I have severe battery problems, my Baseband is - I9100XXLPB AND KERNEL is XWLA4 running CHECKROM6hd.
I'm stuck for what to do, any advice would be much welcomed, to be honest I'm not sure what question I should be asking.
I want to remain on CHECKROM6hd with jk deluxe settings with full root access, this is important for me, the Baseband and kernel look to be the ics versions but flashing gets me stuck on boot screen, only ics flash will work :/
any help advice would be great, thanks guys...

A huge number of things factor to battery.
LA4 is the kernel for GB. No ICS kernel would work on GB, it would probably prevent the phone from booting up if you did flash a ICS kernel on a GB rom.
It would probably be best to do a factory reset or even reflash the rom after a full wipe. (after you back up your data)
If you dont want to do any of that, just install betterbatterystats (can be found searching xda forum for free)
Install the app, and use your phone like you do and then check the app to see whats causing the drain.
what is the baseband? I don't understand what the baseband and kernel really do, how they relate, are they a mismatch?
thank you

Baseband is the modem, it is completely independent from the kernel and ROM, you can use ICS modems on GB and GB modems on ICS without any issue, if you are having reception or data speed issues you can change it by flashing one in CWM from the modem thread, if you aren't i'd just leave it alone.
I changed the Kernel to XXKI4,
The battery seems to be behaving as normal again

Nandroid backup is not backing up the Baseband, that was why you did not get back the Baseband of of your previouse ROM (Checkrom). you will be having the Baseband of the last flashed ROM...
Are you sure you have flashed the Kernel XXKI4 on the rom XWLA4 (checkrom).?
I think you mean to say is "BASEBAND" not the "KERNEL"
yes baseband lol, but it was a 'kernel' from kitchen pro I used to flash/install it....... can I blame autocorrect?
Me?

i think ki4 is a good baseband(modem, radio)and as far as kernel there r lots of good ones like siyah,neak,redpill.....first decide gb or ics...c which is best for u?cause many don like ics an reverted to gb.....but all depends on how u use....remember every phone is diff in thier own way.....
My friends, any one please help me ...my phone behaves peculiarly..i have full signal strength but my mobile shows selected network unavailable...

Hi everyone
I want some help....I am new to android..
I have LG optimus onw p509 (USA version of p500). And I want to install new custom rom...but there are some topics abt OLD baseband and New Baseband.
1) Whats difference between OLD baseband and New Baseband.?
2) Is P509 belong to which one? (OLD baseband ord New Baseband.)
3) How can I find my P509 s' baseband?
Thanks
Old and new basebands refer to the old and new updates. If you had updated your phone to gingerbread(2.3.3) or it had come with GB then you have new baseband. If your phone came with froyo(2.2.1) then you have the old baseband.
You can check your baseband by
Menu > settings > about phone. There you will find your baseband version. You can Google the version and you'll know which baseband is it.
Press thanks if I helped you!!!!

Yes. I'm running 7.2 on a P509 with the old baseband. There is a baseband fix posted somewhere in the CM7 thread(s). You can flash that after you flash the ROM. I think I read that you can also run CM10 on the old baseband, but I haven't been following the CM10 threads closely.

You are on old baseband. You will find new baseband flashing guide in this forum!!
You cant check baseband in stock rom's ABOUT.
You can flash any rom even if you are on old baseband using BB fixes and patches
Use CWM 5.0.2.0 oldBB recovery. Flash it through rom manager. BBfixes and patches dont work with many recoveries.
Before flashing anything.. make sure you have unlocked your P509. Search this forum.. you will find everything!!
