maybe a little more info would from your side would help
Did you get a brand new SIM with your phone, or are you using one that was used in a different device? Have you by any chance handled the SIM not correctly? Tried to carefully clean the contacts side?

It was a brand new SIM that came with the preorder. I've never taken the SIM out, but I'll try taking out the SIM to see if the person who put it in at ATT corporate did it wrong or something.

Yes take the SIM out, enter again and try it for a while. I don't have any problems with the SIM the phone shipped with.

I had to get a new SIM from a store after my cats decided mine old one was a play toy (I was swapping it between phones to make sure my old one was okay to sell)
After I put it in the my X+, I had phone service but no data service. The store couldn't figure it out, but phone tech support looked up my new SIM card number and realized that the store hadn't activated my data plan on it. It was resolved quickly once they figured that out, but might be a good question to ask if you're still having problems.

5 year old sim card

I am a Vibrant owner with all the Team Whiskey goodness. My sim card is about 5 years old. Is there any reason to get a new one?

I think mine is coming up on 8 years old, still going strong!
I recently got my sim changed because Tmo store did it for free. I spoke to the rep about the advantage of changing to newer sim and he said that it will have new information about the tmo network, and that might improve speed. Also if your phone is getting delay text messages (few hours or days latter) then the new sim would fix it.
Mine old sim was 5+ years too and i didnt have any issue. If it free, why not!
Also ask the rep to keep your old sim in case you need a replacement sim. I think it cost about $10 for replacement sim.
No need to update the sim card. 6+ strong here. If you need a new one for any reason, do not go to an official tmo store. They will charge you $20. Your better off going to an authorized reseller. Preferebly like a target or walmart. A place where they dont really care and will give it away for free.
I actually still have the sim card that came in the box (still in the box). But When I got my Vibrant I just pulled my sim out of my old phone and put it in my Vibrant. I don't want to mess anything up but, would it help or hurt anything if I put this new one in my Vibrant?

I did the exact same thing as you. I would also Like to know if it will help switching to the new sim? If it does help switching to the new one, how do I go about changing sim and how do I transfer all of my contacts to the new sim.

T-Mo told me I had to update my SIM when I purchased my Vibrant. No charge, but no good explanation either.

When i got my Vibrant back in October i was not told to switch the sim to the newer one, but i was noticing really choppy really poor 3g signal. I did my research and the newer sims have something to do with it. Now since i switched to the newer sim my phone gets excellent reception.

Put the old one in and go to your contacts and press menu>import from sim. And then they will be on your phone. Call the number that came with the new card and activate your new one. Put that one in the phone. Open contacts, menu>export to sim and you will have them in your new sim

Mine died yesterday. I mean suddenly my vibbie pops up a message no sim card. It was 6 year old so I went to tmobile store and they exchanged it for free. They shouldn't charge you for that

If everything works
probably no need to change it. But probably no harm either.
I had a SIM that was more than 10 years old - going back to Voicestream.
The MyAccount app and WiFi calling wouldn't work with it, so I went to Tmo store and asked for a new SIM. They gave it to me for free.
My Wife and I had to change our SIM cards (over 10 years old) because they would not allow importing of numbers to the Vibrant. Nor did they allow us to sign in to the Android market. Took Tmobile a whole day to figure out what was wrong.lol
The only reason I have ever replaced my SIM card is when I have lost my phone and not had an extra SIM card. I now have 8 SIM cards... if you you really feel the need to replace it send me a pm w/ an address and I will gladly send you one. But if your SIM card is working there is no need to replace it.

Did your dna ship with a sim card installed already?

Just curious. I opted on my order to use my existing sim, but to my surprise, there was one already in the slot. Wondering if the phone ships this way. Thanks.
I received my DNA with a SIM already installed.

Mine was already installed. Bought retail and when I got home I saw it wasn't in the box. Used the tool to take it out, it was already in the phone.
The SIM from my ReZound is a lot bigger than the SIM for the DNA ... So I could not use the same one.
Yeah they come with one. The guy at VZW was bumbling around looking for SIM cards in the closet finally found one and realized there was one in there already lol. I didn't know or I would have told him as I usually have to help them out. Then he had to start over. Irritating.

Got mine on launch at a local verizon. The lady setting it up started jamming the sim unlock tool in the hole on the bottom of the phone. She was pressing as hard as she could trying to get the sim out. I wasn't paying attention at first but when i noticed what she was doing i told her that was the mic. Oh she said and continued looking at the phone to find the sim hole and proceeded to remove and set up the phone. I waited till she was all finished and then told her no i wanted a different phone cause you just brutally violated the DNA's mic hole. she rudely started saying their was nothing wrong with what she did. anyway got a virgin mic holed phone and all is good. I feel sorry for the guy who gets that poor raped phone. but yes the sim was in it as well.
As easy as it was for them to have that little tray for a SIM... Why couldn't they have done that for the sdcard as well lol
-HTC Droid DNA-
Mine was already installed....confused the Verizon Rep because she actually got a new SIM out of the drawer, popped open the SIM Tray, and voila-already there.
Mine was on a card that was waiting to be installed in the phone. Yes I did get mine at the Verizon store too.
I got my DNA online for free with the promotional code and there were 2 sim cards. One sim in the phone and another in the sealed card that you have to break out. Any reason for that or isit just how they do it. My wife's S3 for Amazon only came with one. I didn't activate the DNA yet, I'm waiting to root it before it wants to update. Why 2 cards, just a backup?

Uh...sim card locked but no PUK code for my device yet...what now?

I was just testing a different SIM card, and as I put the original Verizon SIM card back in, for some odd reason it got locked automatically.
The Verizon store is only 5 minutes away by walking from my location, so I went there and asked for the PUK code.
But as the clerk tried retrieving the PUK, she said it is yet to be available for confirmation and that it will take approximately one to two weeks...and I have to leave the device with them since they don't know why the SIM card has no PUK provided.
I just told them to email me once the PUK is ready and brought my phone back. I had accidentally locked my phone with a South Korean carrier before but as for that incident, a simple reset to the whole system got the job done. But this is the first time I have ever had a SIM card from Verizon, so I don't know if there are other ways to unlock the SIM card lock or reset it
Does anyone have a solution? Thanks
Mine did this without removing the SIM, completely locked up on me, this was after I was getting "No SIM card" errors. Verizon tried replacing the SIM card first, but it locked up again before I got out of the store. So they just DOA'd the phone and gave me a new one with new SIM card. Haven't had another issue.

Same thing was happening to me...brought it to Verizon and they gave me the "bad batch of Sims from old supplier line"...they replaced the sim and I haven't had the issue since.

I work for Verizon and have heard of a few customers with the no sim error. For the most part just pulling it out, cleaning it, and putting it back in fixed it. As far as the OP the experience you described is extremely weird. Please tell me you didn't give them your phone and you are without. That would be really sucky and pointless IMO. Generally the PUK can be retrieved through customer care. In my experience it is much easier and way faster to just swap out the sim for a new one so that is what I do for customers. Any corporate Verizon should replace a sim for you for free upon request. If they are ever weird about it just walk outside, pull out your sim, throw it on the ground and go back in saying you lost your sim card. lol
Thanks for the concerns, but I already solved the issue on November 28th by simply replacing the SIM card. Strange strange stuff...

Lucky lucky you! I'm on my 2nd DNA and 5th SIM Card! And they have a new phone on it's way to my house to try again! The brand new SIM I activated yesterday lasted 3 hours before it dropped out with ,"No SIM Card"; error. I love this phone but it does me no good if I'm not receiving calls and texts........
UPDATE 1/5/13: The 3rd phone that Verizon has sent me seems promising! 13 days without the slightest hitch in my giddy-up! So far so good which makes me happy because I really like this phone. Strange how many issues I had with the other two phones though........... we'll see.

Plz Help, Att Htc One "NO SIM ERROR" Tape fix doesnt work!

Hello, im new here but I have seen over the years that this is the place to come to fix cell phone issues and the such. My issue is this, I have just received an ATT HTC ONE, I bought it off Ebay. The phone itself phisically is in mint condition, but the problem is whenever I put a sim card in it, it just wont read it. Im overseas, I have already bought the unlock code for the phone but I get no chance to enter it because the phone wont detect a sim no matter what I do. I have tries puting several different sim cards and no go, I even had a spare ATT sim card and no go. I have just tried the "tape fix" but the phone wont recognize my sim. Is there anything else that I can try or do? I have flashed phone software in the past (droid dna) so if thats what would take to fix this I would do it. Im overseas and returning this to ebay for a refund would not be an option for me. Any help would be greatly apreciated.
I had the same issue and it solved after they replaced the sim tray, but I bought the phone from ATT so I was under warranty.
You might try to get it repaired there, but they might charge you. Or try buying a replacement sim tray off ebay or amazon (I don't know if they sell it or not)

Sim cards can go bad as well. I would go to an AT&T store and they will replace your sim card for free.
Thanks, I did try several sim cards that I had lying around and none of them worked. I have just gotten of the phone with HTC tech support and they are sending me a replacemente sim tray, hope that fixes the problem. Will have to wait 4 looooong weeks without a phone tough...
It happened to me last night. I restarted my phone and it worked normally. Haven't happened since.

You can buy a new simtray for $2.30
They sell lots of other parts for the HTC One as well.

You might want to flash the stock RUU, might have a bad radio flash or something odd.

Oh..ok.. well I dont think new sim tray would be the solution.
I have two HTC One. And I tried putting the sim tray of working HTC ONE into this one and nothing happened.. same issue.
I have couple queries though : Was ur phone's software modified in any way when u recieved it ? I mean was the phone unlocked, rooted etc ?
If yes, did u tried flashing a RUU on it and see if it solves the issue
So I finally found the solution to my problem.. apparently its something related to sim not aligning properly in the socket.
Tape-fix didnt worked for me too and nor did the RUU. Then I tried something different.. I had my iphone 5's nano sim and put it in a plastic nano-to-micro sim adapter and put that in.. it snug in very tight and hurray, the sim got detected. Got the unlock code and its working now !!!!
With this experiment I think I also found out whats ur issue might be too. We often cut the sim using the sim-cutters which are often not perfectly sized but works with most phones. I suggest either try using my method if u can or get a retail micro-sim from a service provider and try that.. it should work.

Agreed, but it does happen. The last batch of T-Mobile Nexus 4's my company purchased, 2 out of 16 had an issue where the SIM's weren't being read due to pin misalignment issues inside the slot. We were able to replace them.

Waiting for your reply mate.. Pl do asap.

How do I activate my new M8 ?

I bought a new One M8 from ATT last week, but didn't have them activate in the store, as I wanted to root it and install a ROM, and play around with at home for a week first, before making it my official phone.
I am coming from an ATT Galaxy S4. So today I am ready to my the M8 my phone now, but I feel like an idiot or a rookie, not knowing how do activate it I forgot that my S4 has the bigger SIM card, which doesn't fit in the M8, which has a tiny nano card. Well the nano card is in the M8 already, I just need to activate it, but really not sure how ?
I dialed "611#' on the M8 and it says something like the SIM card is not provisioned ? And then turning the card out, and putting it back in says " SIM not provisioned MM #2 "
I do have a little sticker that came in the HTC box from ATT has a bunch of serial numbers on it, etc...
Any help would be greatly appreciated here.
Thank you.
Umm...you need to go to AT&T and have them set you up with a micro SIM card. Won't cost you anything.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Just call AT&T (not from the phone line that you're switching phones on), tell them that you have a new phone to switch over, and provide them with the IMEI for the phone and the ICCID of the SIM card that came with it. There should be stickers on the box that have both the IMEI and ICCID numbers.

All you have to do is dial 611 from your other phone. no "#" needed. They will activate it for you. Cost $10 on your next bill. Or go to the store and you can talk them into doing it for free usually, if not, it will be $10 also.
Mine said same thing I just called ATT and they activated it over the phone. Weird I also came from s4 and had same problem.

Not true, AT&T will never charge you for activating a new SIM card. Just walk into the AT&T store and tell them can I please get a nano SIM for my HTC M8, they will just go check your account and print out a receipt and give you the SIM card. After that all you need to do is call AT&T support give them your phone IMEI number and SIM card number and activate it within minutes. Your getting that error message due to having no active SIM in the device.
