Look for this one: Super Video, Floating & Popup in Play store

It feels almost the same.

Wally, I know this isn't a "question" but it definitely doesn't belong in development. Moved it to questions so maybe someone could give you suggestions (like the post above) to have just like the stock player.
Development is strictly related to development. Not general chit-chat, questions, or stating what you miss from something. :highfive:
Thank you sir. :good:

CM always has crap video which is why I never use it. If you are looking for something different from stock try the MIUI beta release, its very good and perfectly usable has a daily driver. As its based on sammy rather than CM everything works, i have even been able to install the note2 transformation pack to get the note 2 cam and gallery.

Don't believe that such a thing exists. Samsung never released one, and since Honeycomb was never released to AOSP, the dev's couldn't/didn't create one. There are a couple of 3.1 stock roms, and the 3.2 TW roms have skins plus lots of information on swapping out the samsung apps. I just switched to a TW rom myself and am pleasantly surprised actually. Minor annoyances but no big deals.

the two things that bother me in TW is the calendar week view and also the sound on stock player and throughout system has been significanatly reduced, if you compare to stock...I watch a lot of movies and barely hear the sound when watching a movie on highest sound...I don't and never liked TW...

Can't help you on the calendar, although I believe that you can swap the stock apk for the TW apk. Not sure how that works. Re the sound, if you get a ROM/kernel that can do Voodoo, that will solve your problems. Makes it sound better too

[q] stock rom better?

I just had a brand new GS3 and have been playing with it quite a lot these past days
I've done many things such as root it, download free paid apps with it, used different launchers with it, etc.
But the latest thing I did, to see what all the fuss was about was to upgrade my GS3 to Cyanogenmod 10.1 Nightly
I mean a lot of people are doing it so I thought it was all good, well at least at the beginning it seemed to be
I have to say at first glance it seemed like a great deal for me, having a spanking new lockscreen, notification bar, overall stock phone and messaging applications, and a sleek looking camera
Everything looked fine, until I tried out many of the new stuff out...
First of all the new camera was pretty ok but had one major drawback for me, the HDR mode
You see in the original GS3 ROM the cameras HDR mode was like lightning, you wouldn't notice that it takes separate photos to make the unified, balanced exposure photo
While in the new camera you can notice a time delay of something like .2-.5 seconds between each photograph that the camera takes in order to make you new HDR photo
The result? a badly stitched photo because of shaky hands. And even using "great" paid camera apps produced the same results
Next in the phone application itself, it looked nice and dandy until I noticed that the option for video calling totally disappeared...
And can I say video calling is by far one of my most used things in my GS3 if not the most after the texting and normal calls
I mean hey, I can make a video call anytime anywhere without internet isn't that awesome?!?
Well actually those two are my only real problems... the others could be the disappearance of my stock Samsung apps such as S Note or S Memo but those can be easily replaced with similar apps from the Play Store, and of course what other stock Samsung apps that dissapeared were the Samsung App store, S Voice, etc. which I liked to have been taken out
That said the Cyanogenmod ROM for me looked more like a launcher with added features but nothing else more, it did not have much of it's own "original" apps and that was kind of okay I guess
BUT MY CONCLUDING QUESTION IS
are all custom ROMs like this? will they all overwrite my beautiful video calling and camera capabilities or was it just the Cyanogenmod ROM?
I'm looking up into other ROMs like "Universe S4 ROM" or "Imperium ROM" for my GS3 and just wanted to know before I either invest a good amount of time or just waste it if those ROMs will or will not take out the bad and add mroe good to my GS3 especially the "Universe S4 ROM" since it said that it will add apps that are exclusive to the GS4 like the S Translate.
Thanks in advance for the replies!
CM and camera is a well posted problem .
You have to do some research first then decide if what the custom rom offers outweighs the bugs .
The S4 apps are a work in progress some work 100% some fail others have bugs that developers try and solve .
You would be better to stick with a stock rooted rom or even a bare bones stock custom Samsung rom .

It has nearly all the apps from the galaxy s4 you can get from the aroma launcher ( In recovery)
And my battery life is extended to nearly 3 hours more!

Thank you very much for this!
I'm still wondering if there are custom ROMs that still have the video call and camera the GS3 or are my only options really those bare bones stock custom Samsung ROMs? If so where can I look to have an easier time finding those types of ROMs I need?
And is an GS4 ROM one of those stock rooted ROM or bare bones stock custom Samsung ROMs that you're talking about or is it a totally different ROM already that doesn't have the video call and camera that I'm looking for?
Because I see all of these ROMs and their offers but I don't know where to look within the forums to know if they do or do not have the two simple aspects that I'm looking for.

But as with the other reply I still have the same question.
Can I still make standard Samsung/Android video calls with this one and is the S4 camera that comes with this as good (or better) than the S3 camera?
I really do hope it does and I'll give it a shot!

By default, this ROM comes with S3 camera. You can find the S4 camera in Aroma. But the S4 camera is quite buggy, video recording some other functions are not wroking yet. Henry is trying his best to make it work. I would reccomend you to try Glamour S4 ROM. Brilliantly smooth and excellent.
In my opinion, cyanogenmod is the most overrated rom in the android. Just a little speed improvement and lots of missing features and problems.
You should try roms based on samsung roms.

I use Google Edition Pure by Dubbsy and hlxanthus.
I started with the modified version for a month or so, then I played around with PAC-Man ROM RC1 by Papa Smurf151 for a few days to test out a ton of custom features in one go. Some of them were quite good, but I got tired of all the options and customisations and just wanted stock Google again . So now I am on Google Edition Pure.
Being able to go to HALO and Pie to hardware buttons to the soft navbar (mod by hlxanthus) and all around again has really helped my form my UI tastes. Turns out I prefer Google's on-screen buttons, and one of the reasons why I bought the S4 was because of its hardware buttons!
I sold my iPhone and got the S4 on the weekend that the new update rolled out. I was able to get it home and root it and flash the GE ROM all on the first day. The only bugs have I've noticed have been the missing 4G bars (fixed), garbled carrier name (unimportant), and a few recent build glitches that I think are fixed now as well (MTP botched and random reboots). On the other had, I tried installing Google Wallet before, but I ended up having to reflash the ROM. Now this latest version has Wallet working out of the box.
Stock ME7 unrooted. Not by choice obviously, but to be honest with force gpu rendering it's incredibly fast and smooth for a stock experience. Great battery too.

Flashed over to Official PAC RC1 yesterday, and it's pretty awesome. I have yet to experience an issue, and it runs like a dream. I ran an older PAC on my Incredible2, and this just further cements my enjoyment of it. I'm sure I'll miss the TW camera soon, but that's what AndyBones BoneStock is for :good:
Also, forcing people to vote is probably going to get the thread locked as a "best ROM" thread. Not to mention the list is missing quite a few options, even those found on XDA - PAC has been around since we first got root.

I saw that in your op. I commented on that ROM/Mod/Kernel list thread, as I didn't realize it was still being updated.
"Daily Driver" is a term people throw around way too loosely, and it means different things to different people. For me, a daily driver is a ROM I can use for my normal activities without major bugs adversely affecting it. Longevity, to me, is irrelevant because there are quite a few ROMs that meet my criteria. I don't think I'm a "crack-flasher" so nightlies aren't my thing, but I've gotten pretty fast at setting up on a new ROM. So even though a ROM may run great for me, I like to change it up every now and then. I loved Beans' and DarkSlide - and would consider those daily drivers. I am now on PAC, and so far it meets all of my requirements. I'll probably switch to BoneStock in the next couple weeks, since ME7 is very smooth and the TW camera is a nice improvement over AOSP.
Im using HellsRom and its great. Pure stock and that's the way I like it for now. I havent found any bugs yet. Everything works great and very fast.

No Omega, Pacman, or Revolt?
I'm currently using Hyperdrive but it's my first custom ROM and I'm not too thrilled with it. Battery life seems a little worse than stock and TouchWiz just feels bloated naturally-- all the S4 stuff doesn't seem to work at all? Smart scroll, smart stay, etc?
Hyperdrive for me has been quirkier and actually a tad slower than stock. I don't mean to blame it but it's my observation based on the options I chose upon install, etc. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid ROM for sure, however I'm definitely not tied to it yet.

[Q] Google Edition ROMs

Hey
I'm looking for Google edition ROMs. Is there a website where Google serves their ROMs? I've searched but couldn't find anything. I also searched on XDA but couldn't find it.
Anyone know where to download their ROMs?
Thanks,

If you are talking about AOSP from Google the Galaxy S3 isn't a part of that program, the S4 however is, if you want a stock-looking ROM I recommend SuperNexus ROM or Cyanogenmod
As above, there's no google edition for SGS3. Your best shot is latest CyanogenMod and Paranoid Android GAPPS (Full nexus package).
Thanks guys!

There is an unofficial Google Edition ROM for S3. Try Ultimarom. It's based on Samsung firmware, but with AOSP elements and theme. You get the AOSP experience without losing the Samsung camera and multiwindow implementation.

Considering the Google Edition ROMs found on the S4 and HTC One are essentially skinned versions (hybrid style) of those devices' stock ROMs, I think it may partially be what he is looking for. I mean, he makes no mention of AOSP, so how you could deduce that my suggestion is totally not what he is looking for is beyond me.
Anyway, hope OP finds what he is looking for!

For me Google Edition is pure AOSP, without Sammy's features, as it would be pointless to call it google edition then.
But that's just my definition, maybe we have different ones.
Agreed with archi. The one that actually gets closest to google roms is supernexus

Gotta chime in here... I'd agree with Archi. On my S4, I'm running the Google Edition ROM, because I don't want/need any of Samsung's stuff.
But that said, I've done my best to ensure that UltimaROM is as slim as you want it to be, including running many AOSP apps natively.

OP can try slimbean or carbon, but I'd not recommend it. If you want pure google feeling, you can try cm, but nothing else. They are worthless, unfortunately: laggy, slow, draining battery, and tbh offers nothing. And maybe we have the same problem: we want a ROM that works great, fast, but has some features. I don't need the samsung bloatware either. (But I like tw and the tw camera)
You should try the miui rom by ihackers. It's not AOSP (Google "feeling"), but a beast, no battery draining, no samsung bloatware and the UI is beautiful. I think it's worth a try.
If you're looking for the pure google feel only, please ignore my post.

Yep, I agree with you Again, tis why I run the GE ROM on my S4. I don't really want the instability of Cyanogen (potential) and I just want stuff to work.
I'm working on something cool for the S3, though Hopefully I can pull it off.

[Q] Compare/Contrast the various 4.3 ROMs with Note 3 features?

I rooted a while back using CASUAL and was planning on flashing the Beans ROM while I was on my holiday break, but now that the official 4.3 update has come out and a bunch of the ROMs that include Note 3 features are being modified to use the update as their ultimate base, I'm waiting. The catch is, I am having a hard time grokking the differences between them and therefore making a decision as to which one to try.
The ones I'm looking at are DittoNote 3, SkyNote, and Nephilim. Can anyone who's familiar with all three sum up the similarities and differences with regard to features and what's not working? Are there others I should be considering?
Thanks!
I'm using DN3. It's cool but in beta I think. It has a lot of bugs.one bug is huge as you probably read. The mms issue. But there are other issues as well like the Web browser glitches when entering it or rotating screen you get this like scrunched stretched screen. Video player gallery does not play the previews or the lager s pen activated previews. This reply is getting long so I will stop there. But it's good enough to use as a daily driver if you use the mms work around. It's based of the inter. Version so stuff is a little odd. But I like it so far. I think I'm going to try neph. Next

MMS - I'm a bit confused from reading the DN3 thread - is MMS completely broken, or only when accessing it from Hangouts?
Web browser - not too worried about that, as I'm using Next Browser
Video player gallery - I don't do much with video, so that doesn't worry me much either.
It seems like DN3 might be a good choice for me. I like the professionalism in their presentation and their stated desired to get everything right - it seems like they are going to functional and useful instead of flashy and cool, which appeals very much to me.
Given that they're predicting their next release will be soon (they were aiming for yesterday), maybe I'll hold off for a few more days and try this one. Unless anyone chimes in with good things about the others?

That looks pretty good - is N3bula a new version of DN3, or a spinoff?

Based on the end of the DN3 thread, I *think* it is the new and improved version. However, I haven't tried either so I really can't say. Both deckoz and L18 are responsive so you might want to ask in the thread.
