Try to go to download mode. First Power off. Then hold vol down+home+power buttons together. Then at the prompt press vol up. Note the details like counter and system status and report here.
If binary flash counter is no, just factory reset by going to settings> backup&reset> factory reset
(Backup your data first)
If binary flash counter is not no, you need to use triangle away, but you need to root for that first.
Hit thanks if I helped you.

If factory reset does not clear either visit a service centre or flash a stock rom via odin.
But as you joined XDA might as well ignore it as you will no doubt flash a custom rom .

Obligatory do research before asking questions statement
Now that that is over do a search on google or here for Odin 3.04, then go to sammobile.com, sign up. Then hook your phone up to kies and see what your country code is, that will tell you what region your phone was made for, you should get a three letter code. Do a google search for that. After you know what region/provider your phone was intended for you can go to sammobile and download the right rom. Once the rom is downloaded put your phone in download mode (volume down, home button, power button held down until galaxy s iii show up, then let go. Press Volume up to get into download mode). Extract Odin on your computer, if on windows 7 run as admin, hook your phone to your computer via data cable/charging cable. Odin should recognize your device. Select pda, and go to the folder that contains your rom (will have to extract the rom as well as it will likely be zipped). Select the file, should have a .tar extension. Once that is loaded in the pda slot hit the start button, Odin should take over automatically. Do not touch the phone until it reboots.

With your first flash, I'd advise you to watch a Youtube video side-by-side so that nothing goes wrong! Just make sure that the downloaded files are correct, you have put them where they belong in ODIN, and that nothing interrupts the flashing process.
Sorry, my internet is really slow right now so I can't send you a link to a Youtube video. Just search on how to install a custom ROM for the Galaxy S3. Once you're done, you'll be flashing custom ROMs and what-not! It's a lot of fun!
Thanks guys and appreciated for your time and help. Thank God factory rest fixed it so no hustle at all. Yay

Hello i have an sgs2 from At&t and i was trying to root but was unsuccesful and now i have this message on my screen when i turn it on " Frimware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I could use any advice or help. I have search and tried alot of things but no luck. Please thanks.
What method did u use to root?

And importantly did you attempt the recovery through kies?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
i used the "how to easily root your sgs2" method using odin. I tried to use the recovery through kies but it asks for a code and it wont connect to my phone.
It sounds like your phone is still half functioning. Try booting into recovery,
With the phone off hold down both volume keys and power button until you see the first screen, then let go of the power button.
If it's stock recovery you'll be able to do a factory restore(wipe). If CWM choose wipe data factory reset.
After rebooting it might work.
Worst case you can put it back in download mode and try odin again.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
If you can't get it into download mode you may have serious issues.
Might need to build a usb jig or buy one.
Contemplate a return.
If you tried everything, and I mean everything to get it into download mode, i.e. jig, "adb reboot", then neither can they. Can't see anything you did.

You never did tell us what KIES has to do with ROOTING ?
I would definitely flash back to stock. Stock will never further mess it up. Not to mention there is the stock rom that's prerooted. By using that one you won't get a yellow triangle on boot. Nor will the counter go up from changing the kernel.

If he downloaded an international rom then he can't use the stock recovery as the power button on the international roms aren't the select key. They have an actual hardware button to select. I found that out the hard way.

At least you got download mode working. With that working there should be no issue about fixing your phone.
Just keep in mind depending on if "everything flashed from the international version you possibly will also need to flash the right modem.
I wouldn't worry about that until you got the phone up and working.
It's best to keep each step as simple as possible, especially for the first time you're trying it.

ok so i downloaded the stock rooted rom and im using odin 1.85 but it stops at factoryfs.img, any ideas??? thanks again for all the help
Not good. I wish I could offer more help. At least it didn't stop at flashing the bootloaders.
There's not too much you can do at this point. You can try waiting seeing if it changes.
You can hope if you do unplug it that you can get it back into download mode. Then try odin again. Though I'd make sure the checksum of the download matches up to make sure it downloaded properly.
No one wants to be the one to say unplug it in the middle of an odin procedure, but if no progress is being made after a reasonable amount of time, there's not much left to do.

You only need stock rom and stock modem. If you have that go to the Samsung site and get your upgrade.

Having trouble getting out of initial boot screen "samsung galaxy s II GT-I9100 with the triangle". I flashed siyah-v3.4.2-nomswap-i777.tar using Odin3_v1,85 and had issues using video and camera. Was using galaxys2root.com as guide but no resolve in forum. I tried to factory reset using power vol+ vol- and was still being shown that i was running the siyah kernal... obviously dont know what im doing. I then tried reset using settings and am now stuck at the boot screen. My computer recognized that it was sgh-i777 when bubble popped up but no data is being listed and is showing up as 2 drives in my computer. It shows battery charging briefly but then screen goes black. Is this salvageable, can I get back to a stock ROM? Please advise.

You'll want to get root if you don't have it. Either flash the stock + root package or use the Exynos Abuse app to gain root. If you use the app, do not patch the vulnerability.
Once you have root, download Mobile Odin and flash the Siyah kernel. You can flash Siyah with regular Odin but it will trip the flash counter.
Clearing the flash counter is as easy as a jig or the triangle away program.
For any extra information on any of these topics, read the stickies and look at Creepyncrawly topics.

I have flashed AOKP JB on it and everything seems to be working fine... I now understand the appeal of the whole thing... It runs so smooth. Is there a big reason to clear the flash counter? Is that just a warranty thing? I can see why you wouldnt want a huge triangle on the front if youre trying to sell it. What is patching the vulnerability?

Warranty is really the only reason to clear it. When you run Exynos Abuse it asks if you want to patch the vulnerability that allows it to root the phone. This is a permanent fix and cannot be undone.

That exclamation mark error is telling something bad has happen with earlier flash, ie unfinished flash, corrupt files etc. Back in the old days people usually use usb jig to force phone into nornal download mode again. That happen to me once and what i did is remove battery, hold the three button combination for download mode and while still holding those buttons, force reinsert the battery. Phone should boot into download mode and should be detected by pc and can be flashed via odin. Good luck with it
