Usb charger mod - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I'm facing a problem with my usb port, it has been detached... I sent it in a local repairing store but they did nothing. I need your help to guide me. There are 5 contacts on the motherboard for the usb port: Vbus, Data+, Data-, N/A, Ground. I have cut a usb cable and there are 4 cables: Red, Black, White and Green. I know that Red and Black are for giving current and logically the other two are for the Data.
Can I make the two data(+/-) on the board to cantact directly with the usb cable that I have cut? I need it for flashing kernels (which flashing lasts < 30")
Take a look

Yeah they're so tiny, but at least I want data to be working for flashing kernels... I'm trying to find a solution for the adb as you too... But it seems impossible...

i flashed succesfuly ferakernel 5.1 by pushing down the usb cable while holding back button , it works after 5 or 6 shots i swear
you can try it

I sent my phone to Sony and they said (I don't believe them) that something on the board has been broken and even the mini usb was soldered it still didn't charge. So all in all, it costs 130.euros. I can't do anything but to pay them.

Here is the picture of the solution
Here is the very good solution of it and its working both for charging and falshing , i have done it for my phone and its working 100000% and i am not advising u to do it yourself but this is the solution i am herewith attaching the pictures of it .
good luck

OK, returning from hardware hacking forum, cause this topicneeds an intervention
It could be posssible, that the copper from your motherboard was broken too. In this case you could use testpoins, but It would need really precision handling. But it IS possible tosolve it.
Could you post a pohot of your broken port on your motherboard?

Check my post just above kanewilliam....
This is very interesting for the other ppl who have the same issue... When I will get my phone in my hands, I will open it to check what Sony has done

Also there are alternate solution with test points Can help you , once I will find my schematics of mainboard on my PC
But proper photo of your devices board should help a lot for improvements.

When I will get it, I'll take some photos of the board

I got the x10 in my hands. I'm very dissapointed because while it is being charged as normally, the data doesn't work. Wtf?
What photos do you want to take shot of?

My XDA usb hotsync power mod

i was reading about the power mod guide thing on here about how u cant use the power cable in when u done the self powered usb mod thing so....
heres my version and it works ( not built it properly yet till tuesday as i need to go into town to maplins to get a button (as i need a push on push off button i only have a push and hold down one
btw warning! do not have the button pressed on while having the charger plugged and on in aswell dunno what it would do but itll add up to 10volts so i wouldnt try it if i was u :S
anyway heres my guide the buttons are baout £2 from maplins they do ones which light up when pressed in which is what im going to get hopefully if they have them in stock ill let you know what happend thanks for reading
the picture for this guide is here

all u do is solder the switch to the points in the diagram i made.
all u need is a soldering iron, steady hand, solder, thin wire, drill + spare £2 for a button + maybee a pair of plyers to do the button up once u put it in.
hope it works for u guys like it worked for me.
another thing u can use this thing for is....
when rom upgrading u can use the usbs power for when upgradeing CE but when u do the GSM part it says to turn off the power so all u have to do is click off the button on the cradle and there u go
i am impressed great idea... it took me an hour or so but its working finaly and let me say 2 thumbs up!
Nice mod, but...
But wouldn't the suggested low-drop diodes from the mod page be better still? Doing it the way you suggest, one could still damage the computer's USB port (or the XDA adapter) if the switch was in the wrong position (i.e. adapter and USB connected).
yeah but i mentioned this in my 1st post but its alot simpler then people learing what diodes are. I know about phone scematics as i used to repair nokias and put leds in ect... but its just a simple version for beginners to try.
just have to remember if the buttons down its on and it its up its off.
or you could get a button from maplins or radio shack/tandys that when pushed in lights up so then you defently know its on + it makes the stand look cool lol 8)

mini usb cables

can i use a regular mini usb cable to send files to my phone and or trickle charge it from my computer if my charger isnt available.
i know this seems like kind of a retarded question but the mini usb that came with my phone i lost.. and i know that the end looked a little different then a regular mini usb.
thanks
Yup, I am using a generic one to transfer files. It is recommended to find one with a choke on it but I have used both. The choke looks like a bead or a barrel in the cable near the one end.

what exactly does the choke do?
where have you seen this recommendation?
The "choke" is just a ferrite bead that stops electro-magnetic leakage from the cable so it doesn't interfere with other electronics. I usually cut them off to make a lighter and easier cable to route around my work areas.
look around, you will see the recommendations whenever someone is flashing a rom or working around the inner workings of Android. If your just transferring pics and stuff no big deal, only when you really care about the quality of data will it matter

Umm, the one that I got with the phone wasn't mini-USB. It was extUSB. miniUSB works as well but I find it harder to insert so I just use extUSB. I tried some miniUSB cables that have two of those magnetic protections. extUSB also sits very good in the socket.
My camera, my old cell phone, my G1, and my BT headset all use the same mini USB plug and I use them all interchangeably without any ill effect. I prefer to use the one that came with the G1 at my house while making themes and doing lots of flashing but I use the other ones too for the same things and have never had an issue.

[Q] Usb previously broken and now need to Resolder Usb Port

Hi,
My usb port on my xperia broke previously and i had i repaired but now its broken again. Would it be possible to re solder a brand new usb port as the the guy at the phone shop says he might not be able to re solder it next time.
Any response is greatly appreciated.
HI,
It is possible almost everytime but, MIGHT take very long time to resolder, if copper pads are took off the PCB. Therefore, it mustbe soldered back on other pins.
Anyway, it is possible.
.
Thanks for your replay.
I know that the outer big pins are the ones for charging but are they inner small pins for data connectivity?

Yes - outer are GND (-) and VCC (+) - inner D+ and D- (DATA). One pin is unused. Here is the pinout:

..
Thank you for your reply.
This was very useful and now i can out smart the phone guy when he says in can only charge meaning he hasn't soldered the inner one on.
So hit Thanks pls
If that guy was the technician, ha propably knew that. But there maid be a reason, why he didn`t soldered them - maybe it wasn`t possible due to damaged PCB...
Just guessing
..
I did get my xperia fixed once but it only charged and when ever i connected it to my computer it only charge and did not connect to the computer. Is there a solution for that?
So your phone was repaired after damage? Am I right, that it wasn`t repaired by yourselve?
So, you could find out if data pins are soldered - download Terminal emulator
here.
Then open it and connect your phone with PC via USB cable. Once phone is connected on both sides, type "dmesg" and see output. There must be something like this:
<6>[23469.853208] *********** Charger Type: HOST PC
<6>[23469.853384] Charger Type: STD DOWNSTREAM PORT
<6>[23470.708433] msm_chg_usb_charger_connected
If charger type is DEDICATED CHARGER, data pins are not connected or not solderd properly.
Thanks a lot.
It`s OK - you're welcome
I've got a phone with a broken USB too. I've got a new USB port and was looking for some information on how to do the soldering. Thanks.

Hi, if you don`t have any experience with soldering (of anything) - Don`t do it, you may damage your phone permanently.

Phone won't get signal, I need a new antennae wire

My phone doesn't charge and I need an new charging port and microphone flex board, but I just noticed that when I tried to take the board out, the glue was hard to work with and when it snapped out, the wire for the little antennae like connector broke that attaches to the flex board. it broke right at the crimp, and I tried soldering the wire onto the connector but it didn't work. Where do I get a replacement wire with both ends of the connector?

...are you serious? It works at least as a tablet right now. I just need a way to charge the battery and a way to get cell signal back.
If anything, is there a case available that is also an external antennae?

You can buy the travel battery charger/stand for about 30 dollars. It comes as a external battery pack with a oem removable battery. Charges via micro USB and includes a wall charger.

I know that, but how do I solve the antennae problem? All I need is the $13.00 flex board and a little wire with proprietary connectors which I can't seem to find anywhere..
Or I can start looking for broken cell phones and seeing if I can find one by ripping them apart?
See that wire connected to the microphone/USB flex?? where do I get one?
I think it goes to the internal antennae of the phone
Are there any cases that double as an external antenna if I can't fix it?
EDIT:
The usb connector practically fell out. I'm going to try to solder it back in, but I'm going to need that wire either way.
I think you might be better off trying to replace the entire board... It looks like you hit it with a hammer.
This phone just came out a few months ago, what did you do to it in that short of time that required you to dissect it? Also, why didn't you call AT&T to see if you could get it replaced? You have a 1 year warranty on the phone.

This is what I'd do. [email protected] will replace it. Now put that thing back together and call them.

MHL Adaptors (Mega 6.3)

I've order 2 different ones and neither one works. From what I can tell some of them have 5 pins and others have 11 (on the phone end).
The last one I got said it was specifically for the Mega 6.3 but it doesn't work either.
Just wondering if any of you have found one that does work for you?

Just plugged it in including USB power supply, no set-up necessary.
There will be a message on the phone's screen saying HDMI is connected.
Make sure your TV input is in the mode where you plugged in the HDMI.

Have you rooted your phone?
I rooted mine and then put the stock kernel back. But I did freeze alot of services, so maybe one of those is needed for MHL support. I got what I thought was the right MHL adaptor, now i'm starting to thing maybe its on the phone's end.

My phone is rooted with CWM installed. Check the cables you have if they are really 11 pin:
Both of the ones I have look like the old one, even though both of the amazon/ebay listings say that they work with the newer S4 and Note 2.
Hmmm. Very interesting...

They are probably wrong since they won't be able to test it without buying the phones. Maybe you can send them back and get a refund.

Yeah, you are probably right. Oh well. I can give them to friends, they have the older phones that it should work fine with.
