[Q] Any XT912 ROM that operates both CDMA/LTE & GSM/UMTS? - Motorola Droid RAZR

I've been searching but haven't found an answer in any of the threads on ROM's. Either I suck at searching or the question just isn't there / answered.
Is there any ROM for the Verizon edition of the Razr (Maxx in my case, but eh) that will still easily allow me to globetrot as I do?
Or is dual booting my best option in such a situation? I've been away from phone hacking for some time, wasn't even aware dual booting was a possibility. I'd certainly flip flop between stock ICS and a custom ROM if that's the case. Is that feasible if the answer to my original question is no?

I have some contradictory view on this :
View point 1 :
The XT910 GSM Razr and the XT912 CDMA Droid Razr are not the same hardware and the radio from one cannot be run on the other. The signatures will not match and allow it to flash.
The XT912 has an additional Motorola LTE radio chip that is running a TI Wrigley embedded linux with its own CPU and RAM. In addition, the OMAP AP flash is partitioned differently with a much smaller preinstall partition.
Viewpoint 2 :
But There was a article released that said Verizon might push a software patch to make your CDMA phone a Global phone:
check this http://www.pcworld.com/article/258233/verizon_gives_motorola_lte_razrs_their_gsm_wings.html
The logic is simple , if your phone has a GSM radio on it , you just need to activate it , it can be dome by flashing a ROM with GSM leak ...
My Suggestion : Just give it a try and find out yourself in less than 1 hour
Root using tool from Eternityproject / Matts Utility , backup data using Titanium Backup
Install Safestrap 3.05 , Backup your Stock ROM using Safestrap
Activate Slot 1 , instal Eclipse 1.5 followed by GSM patch then reeboot .
Give it a try , since its Safestrap dont worry about bricking ..

Do let me know if it worked ..

The XT912 is a GSM/UMTS capable phone. The Verizon ICS update in June made this possible. And the Verizon LTE phones aren't SIM subsidy locked (though they will unlock devices anyway). I've used it both with the Verizon SIM and using 3rd party SIM's in more than a half dozen countries in Europe and Asia.
Here's what I don't know: Will the XT912 Razr/Maxx operate in the US on the AT&T and T-Mobile networks similar to the way Verizon's latest devices (iPhone 5, Razr HD/HD Maxx, et al) do so? I ask this because older devices will not connect to AT&T or T-Mobile (Droid 3, Droid 2 Global, other non-Android phones) so it was difficult to fully validate a ROM without leaving the country.
If I had a T-Mobile or AT&T SIM, I would test, then load a ROM and test again. Though ideally the perfect test is to be loaded up with a ROM and travel abroad - but I don't travel with more than a tablet so if I'm abroad with a ROM that won't play nice with rest-of-world UMTS data I'd have no way to go back to stock nor would I want to waste the time while traveling. Though I understand Safestrap is essentially a dual-boot method so this wouldn't be an issue?

Actually safestrap lets you swap roms with a reboot and a few taps. You should try it out.

I'm from Europe, have Verizon xt912 (stock rom) with working gsm and cdma. Switching between them in *#*#4636#*#*

Hey, just gave it a try with eclipse and gsmPatch. Still no go. Tried with WCDMA Preffered, GSMauto, and GSMonly. Worth a shot though and Thank you for the info and links.

[Q] Is It Possible To Apply A Milestone X SBF To A Milestone X2 To Achieve Root?

I have the Milestone X2 MB867 from CSpire Wireless, System Version 45.0.43.MB867.ACG-CS.en.US that came with Android Version 2.3.6 stock.
Android 2.3.6 patched the security vulnerability that was exploited by the Zergrush and Gingerbreak methods against Android 2.3.4 and 2.3.5. As of Friday, January 20, 2012 04:33:18 PM, attempts to use applications such as SuperOneClick 2.2.x - 2.3.3, MotorolaOneClick, PetesMotorolaRootTools, Unlock Root and the manual method documented here: ht tp:// nosky. us/xsGquN (no spaces) have failed.
So, I'm considering using the SBF method to flash the phone to a rootable state.
I've come across a 2.3.5 OTA update on the following XDA thread which people have successfully reported using on the Milestone X (not X2) as an SBF:
ht tp:// nosky. us/zNES38 (no spaces)
It's an update from my carrier, C Spire / Cellular South, for the Milestone X.
I'm wondering "theoretically" whether the hardware is similar enough for me to use it on my Milestone X2 TEMPORARILY -just long enough to root it and to load a custom ROM like Eclipse or CyanogenMod.
From what I've read, the biggest hurdle for most people using an SBF is loosing carrier-specific settings and thereby breaking cellular and data access. Though the file mentioned above is not specific to my device, I'm thinking that it is similar enough that I might be able to use it to get root and retain my carrier settings to load a custom ROM.
So, is this plan remotely feasible? Or, are there details I'm missing such as programming built into the phone's flash chip that checks for a particular firmware signature or a firmware that is specific to the device (thus meaning it will reject the milestone X files automatically)? Is the phone locked in some way to prevent flashing all together? I'm not sure about what all I don't know. LOL
I'm not averse to risk and willing to "take one for the team" but I try only to take calculated risks, so any insight anyone else can provide would be greatly appreciated.
You would be better off trying our sbf(dx2). A guy did try it.

did not suceed.
I would contact CellZealot for advice, He IS TBH.

You would, most likely, get a real brick your way.
Thanks for the reply skwoodwiva.
In the following post, jbzcar claimed to have accomplished root using SuperOneClick but I have yet to find an independent confirmation from another user:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20908482&postcount=39
In short, I'm not sure how much stock I put in his testimony.
I've used Verizon-based ROMs such as Pete's Bugless Beast on my C Spire / Cellular South Milestone in the past and did not have any issues. Assuming that I can successfully flash a Verizon DX2 SBF, can loss of data functionality be corrected? Is there such a thing as an SBF that does not change carrier specific settings (e.g. PRL, Baseband, etc.)?
I can only offer this observation : you Mx2 guys can be very different from each other as your providers are different . You could get a better handle on things if you guys had a way of each poster IDing their phone w/ their phone info page screen shot. If you started a thread and the op had several running "versions found" to fit all the new posters phones into a usefull pattern may develop.

Are there more versions ?
Hi folks, just wanted to stop in and comment as per a request. Unfortunately, after reading this, I am certain it won't work at all because of hardware differences between M2 and MX2.
Rather than trying to crossflash firmware files in order to root, I would suggest looking at other vulnerabilies in the OS. I realize this is easier said than done, but it is far more likely to be successful than this effort. The person to talk to about would be djrbliss who has done a lot of work on rooting recent Motorola devices. Unfortunately, he is pretty sour on the Android community right now due to a lack of appreciation and understanding of the work he has done already.
Sorry to not have a better answer but I definitely do not recommend attempting to flash an SBF for M2 to an MX2.
I would try some device specific root options like ROTA893 for the Bionic. The newest ota update for them can't be rooted with normal Zergrush. ROTA893 is just a patched version of zerg though.

Hey CellZealot,
Thanks for taking a moment to chime in. I'll try to reach out to djrbliss to enlist his help. I'm all too familiar with how thankless a job working in tech can be, so I'll be careful to be respectful of his time and send him a donation if he'll have it. Speaking of which, how do I get that coffee to you that I promised?

[Q] New Razr Maxx - need to install new OS

Hi,
I bought a new Razr Maxx. It supposed to be unlocked.
I have a few questions:
1) I want to install a custom ROM. I want to use the last Android version - 4.2 or 4.2.1. I've searched the forum and I see that there are many versions to 4.2/4.2.1, What are my possibilities. How do I install the new ROM and where can I download it (I don't have a SD card)?
2) Do I need a specific version of 4.2/4.2.1 if I need support for certain languages or this version support Google version languages?
3) I've some experience in Linux OS. Can you help me understand why do I have to use some exploit to get root after I've installed a new OS?
4) How do I check that the boot loader is unlocked.
5) Can you help me decide if I need a strong cover for the Razr Maxx or I can buy a random silicon case?
6) Can you recommend on a good car charger and car phone holder from ebay?
General note: Currently I have no SIm for the Razr. Do I need it to install new OS?
Thanks
Pick up a custom rom based on whether u are on a cdma or gsm network. Try out the following roms
Cm10.1 its 4.2 based
Cm10 rom based on 4.1.2
D-wiz its a good custom rom
Root ur device use razr utility... info given in this forum and also install SAFESTRAp v3 its a very good recovery tool and u can always keep ur stock custom rom
As far as my knowledge goes moto razr has a locked bootloader...
And i suggest u buy a pretty decent phone cover as there are reports some of the device have a fragile gorilla glass so u might wanna protect it.
-hit thanks if i was helpful

[Q] Need help with some basic questions

Alright, I did a quick search and nothing popped up and I'm looking for the latest information anyway. Also I'm a complete beginner here
Alright, I installed a new stereo into my car and everything works great. Except that when I'm streaming the stock google music app the tags do not show up on the display. According to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560609&page=22 this is a common problem with the receiver and it appears that most/all stock ROMs will not display tags. So according to that thread I need a custom ROM specifically one that runs 4.1. I guess 4.2 does not show tags on any ROM.
So my question for you is. What is the best 4.1 ROM to use? What is the most stable that has all of the features of my stock OS?
Also what tutorials do you guys suggest. I was planning on using the ones found here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155576. What does GSM mean btw?
Sorry for being so clueless on this. Thanks for the help guys!
Well im kind of nooby to, but i can tell you what gsm means. It means a sim card based phone or network (gsm phone, gsm network, etc.). Such as T-Mobile or ATT. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subscriber_identity_module
The opposite of GSM is CDMA (CDMA based network, CDMA based phone), you don't need a sim card for your phone, I guess your phone comes programmed to whatever carrier. Major networks are Verizon and Sprint.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_division_multiple_access
GSM phones are easier to switch carriers with, just unlock your phone and pop in what ever sim card from any carrier you want (although you may face limited functionality, such as only 2g).
If your razr has any Verizon branding (Verizon logo) its the CDMA xt912, or you can tell its CDMA if on the back of the phone it says xt912, and by going into "Settings"> "About Phone" (scroll down)> "Model Number". The GSM variant has no Verizon branding and has an xt910 on the back, and by going into "Settings"> "About Phone" (scroll down)> "Model Number". So when people say xt910 its GSM and xt912 its CDMA. Do not install roms for the other phone (if you have GSM do not install a CDMA rom, vice versa, unless you use patches such as this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805380, make sure the rom you want is supported).
The rom i use is CM10.1 (cyanmod 10.1) its really stable accept for me, camera doesn't work (I usually carry my "un-hacked", other phone with me so it doesn't matter) Its based of of 4.2.2 here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028020

Thanks so much for the response. I was worried for a second. Well I found out earlier today what the difference between CDMA and GSM. Mine is the xt912. Thanks again for clearing that up for me.
As for the ROM I believe that the 10.1 is based off of 4.2 where as 10 is based off of 4.1. I'm looking for a 4.1 ROM that has all the features including the camera and everything I'd expect from my phone. I don't mind it being old or anything. I'd actually prefer it. Can anyone help with that? Suggest a ROM to use? I've been looking around all day today and didn't find anything that looked that great. I wouldn't mind CM9 if it was more stable. Just looking for one that isn't based off of 4.2.
Thanks again for the response though! It was very helpful.

Yup, no problem.
These roms are all CDMA xt912 roms, these require JB kernel (pretty much JB as your phone's stock rom) If you do not have JB official as your stock here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2083129
(If you don't have already) Your going to need Safestrap recovery 3.11 before you can install roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391900
Make sure you uninstall any recovery you have installed (such as Bootstrap, and any other Safestrap version) before you install Safestrap 3.11.
Here are some stable roms (with everything working):

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2109581
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128635
BTW I would suggest just sticking to the stock JB rom
I couldn't find any completely stable roms based of the ICS kernel (petty much ICS as your stock rom). If you need help with any thing or run into any problems (I've ran into allot and I've learned how to fix) just message me or post right here. BTW your going to lose root after you update to JB kernel unless you follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2083129

[Q] [HELP] Ability to use XT912 on GSM Custom ROM

Sorry if it has been answered before but I couldn't find a clear answer.
I have a Droid Razr XT912 running JB Official (as I've been told). It can run on both GSM as well CDMA Network. I just want to know that if I flash a Custom ROM say CM 10.1, will I be able to run GSM as well as CDMA.?
Also there is something as GSM patch. Do I need to flash it as well.?
Any help is much appreciated, Thanks in advance.

[Q] Motorola XT912 Lollipop ROM, Can't send SMS

First post here so be gentle, if my details are incorrect, I'll try and get as much in here as I can and add more info as requested.
Backround info: Phone was only originally used on the Verizon network in the US but now I am based in Ireland. I have a working 4.1.2 ROM which allows the phone to function as normal
I have a Motorola Razr XT912 and I have been trying out numerous ROMs to try and get my phone up and running with Lollipop.
I keep hitting the same issue with being unable to send SMS messages with all the CM 12 (and as of last night I tried the nightly 12.1 ROM) ROMs I am trying to use. I usually go with the spyder ROMs but I am not sure if I using the correct ones (GSM or CDMA?) from the Cyanogenmod site and choosing the Sypder option for Motorola Razr
I have looked around other forums and they all say something about Voice+ and deleting it, which I cannot find.
Basically I guess I am asking if the XT912 has a working Lollipop ROM (I like the CM ones) or am I going down the wrong track completely, is this even possible?
I am on the 3 network here in Ireland if that makes any difference?
Any help appreciated, and great site
